**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Dec 15 02:59:57 2009 Dec 15 06:45:45 hallo all **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Dec 15 17:03:09 2009 Dec 15 20:34:32 hi, are there many games in angstrom Dec 15 20:34:47 I looked at the feed searched and done that: opkg list | grep -i game Dec 15 20:35:09 and a lot of games don't contain the game word in their description Dec 15 20:35:19 or are not in the x11-game cathegory Dec 15 20:35:24 such as scummvm Dec 15 20:35:34 or similar Dec 15 20:35:37 so... Dec 15 20:35:49 is there a web page referencing the games? Dec 15 20:35:53 like for instance a blog? Dec 15 20:36:20 the device has 2*320x240 screen Dec 15 20:36:31 so newer wesnoth won't work Dec 15 20:36:53 unless the theme is modified Dec 15 20:37:01 like for the iphone port for instance Dec 15 20:37:34 or are there cool things to do with angstrom? Dec 15 21:15:56 GNUtoo: depends what you want from games, the supporting libs such as SDL have been getting some TLC of late in Angstrom, a lot of things like ScummVM work very well. What games did you have in mind? Dec 15 21:24:34 game other than card games Dec 15 21:24:55 like scummvm, dosbox, doom, not wesnoth cause 320x240 Dec 15 21:25:04 pingus Dec 15 21:28:05 GNUtoo: easy to make recipes, I have stuff queued on the back of the OpenPandora bits I have been doing with libs, DOSBox etc. tweaks to ScummVM's build. Dec 15 21:28:59 ok Dec 15 21:29:27 I've updated wesnoth but it won't work on the bug device Dec 15 21:29:56 btw how do you handle the install path for games for the pandora? Dec 15 21:30:10 will oe install in /opt sdcard or something like this? Dec 15 21:30:19 changing the ${datadir} Dec 15 21:32:33 GNUtoo: no, for removable media we have another format that is much more happy with removable media (pnd), it's not perfect (far from it) but it copes a lot better then running packages off something that can vanish :-o. That said, all the supporting libs are in the normal Angstrom image so are getting pushed upstream, as our some apps I personally have done recipes for to keep on the NAND. Dec 15 21:33:31 ok Dec 15 21:34:02 btw are omap based computer usable as a laptop? maybe I'll buy the touchbook Dec 15 21:34:46 (I'd love to buy the pandora but the keyboard is too small and I can't buy every device : http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/columns/bizarre_cathedral_31 ) Dec 15 21:35:11 (I've my laptop screen broken and I need a laptop) Dec 15 21:36:32 GNUtoo: I can't really say, my honest view would be no, not quite. I really want a touchbook but the lack of RAM hampers it and it's default setup with the DSP grabbing ram and a big framebuffer does not leave as much as one would hope for a laptop style OS. With the Pandora, it's a compromise device, I find it great if you put it in the 'zaurus' section with good game controls. Not sure I would use it to replace a lap Dec 15 21:36:32 top but I can see myself with it in my jacket for using at a push for normal things. Dec 15 21:36:56 GNUtoo: That comic is WAY to close to the mark ;) Dec 15 21:37:58 ok so maybe I'll try to find a good netbook Dec 15 21:38:07 thanks a lot Dec 15 21:38:14 I'll try scummvm Dec 15 21:38:33 ouch too much kernel alignement trap problems Dec 15 21:38:41 maybe I should run a stock kenrel Dec 15 21:41:22 for the laptop thing I could put swap...I've tried on my desktop computer...it's mainly usable...but I did mem=256M not mem=256M-DSP...I would need to find some cheap flash to sacrifice tough Dec 15 21:41:50 GNUtoo: I have a patch for ScummVM's recipe to make it use the ARM optemised ScummVM code paths we put in years ago on the Angstrom platform, need to get that pushed at some point. Dec 15 21:42:00 wow Dec 15 21:42:10 by code path you mean? Dec 15 21:42:14 NEON? Dec 15 21:42:22 I've armv6 Dec 15 21:42:25 not v7 Dec 15 21:43:34 GNUtoo: sorry, I am a ScummVM developer as well as an OE/Angstrom one ;). ARMv4/v5 code paths within ScummVM that are used for scalers, movies, blending etc. - can make a big diff. Also looking at some NEON patchs for some pinch points in the bigger ScummVM games on OMAP3. Dec 15 21:43:57 ok Dec 15 21:44:07 I fixed scummvm in oe long time ago Dec 15 21:44:45 maybe you helped me...who knows Dec 15 21:48:24 GNUtoo: not sure, I wondered the other day who 'maintains' it as it could be tweaked to take advantage of a log of stuff in ScummVM like the virtual keyboard if the platform wanted it, could provide bindings etc. Dec 15 21:48:36 ok Dec 15 21:48:54 not me,I only fixed an issue triggered by automatic scripts Dec 15 21:49:02 http://gnutoo.homelinux.org/blog/index.php?entry=entry090121-000101 Dec 15 21:49:14 (ENTREPRISE_DISTRO things) Dec 15 22:29:51 mmm is that normal: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:6000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 932/Xorg ? Dec 15 22:34:43 it's vnc Dec 15 22:34:52 should be able to hit that with a vnc client Dec 15 22:35:18 ok thanks Dec 15 22:35:24 no worrie Dec 15 22:35:25 s Dec 15 22:38:55 thanks Dec 15 22:39:04 trying it didn't work so it's fine Dec 15 22:59:18 DJWillis, can I bother you if I've a scummvm runtime issue ? Dec 15 23:27:59 hello all. I have a zaurus SL-5500 and an SL-5600 i got them to play around with oe and now i just need the money. any idea how much they are worth? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Wed Dec 16 02:59:57 2009
