**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Thu Aug 02 02:59:59 2012 Aug 02 03:54:47 anyone around to help me debug this systemd/PAM issue? Aug 02 15:18:32 hello all. I'm having trouble getting my huawei e353 usb 3g modem to work in angstrom on my beagle bone. Any insight? I'm on the latest image (http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beaglebone/) Aug 02 15:26:56 no insight, insufficient data given. Aug 02 15:31:41 dm8tbr: what data can I provide to help you help me? Aug 02 15:33:00 I might not even be able to help you. but you might start by telling what you did and what happened. Aug 02 15:33:09 aside from 'trouble' Aug 02 15:33:28 also if you have a bone you might want to ask that on #beagle Aug 02 15:39:25 OK. So, I plugged in the usb dongle; I get a scsi cd-rom mount point. It doesn't recognize this as a 3g modem. So, I'm guessing the kernel is missing a kernel module, or is out of date. So, I'm done an opkg install modemmanager, which does recognize my device but doesn't get me anywhere. What I expect is that the device hook into a /dev/ttyUSB0, so I can launch pppd via it. Aug 02 15:40:03 sounds like you're missing a usb-modeswitch Aug 02 15:41:17 yeah, I'm downloading that now Aug 02 15:41:40 why does't opkg see it? I have to manually search the repo on the website Aug 02 15:51:06 opkg update Aug 02 15:53:44 yeah, I've done that Aug 02 15:54:34 I had to do it all manually. Got as afar deep as getting tcl-lib -> tcl -> usb-modeswitch -> usb-modeswitch-data Aug 02 15:59:39 dm8tbr: so this is my dmesg after rebooting. http://pastebin.com/Gf6TVdKy Aug 02 16:00:04 what's new is "usbserial: Unknown parameter `vendor'" Aug 02 16:01:08 cdc-wdm0: USB WDM device <-- looks like it's there Aug 02 16:02:27 also notice how the productID changes, that's modeswitch at work I'd say Aug 02 16:02:35 ah, cool Aug 02 16:02:48 yeah, I see that. Makes sense Aug 02 16:03:19 if your SIM needs a pin, then you need to send that somehow Aug 02 16:04:00 aside from that I suspect that this wdm0 is ethernet over usb and an ifup on that would be enough after entering PIN Aug 02 16:10:16 hmm.. no go on the ifup Aug 02 16:14:16 well it's your modem Aug 02 16:14:27 check how to use it on generic linux Aug 02 16:14:51 at this point it's a completely generic linux problem Aug 02 16:17:37 indeed Aug 02 16:17:39 thanks Aug 02 16:49:45 this may be an issue: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/usbserial-issues-with-vendor-parameter-608241/ Aug 02 16:58:51 dm8tbr: I've compiled a kernel before, but not for armv7. I'm guessing this would be a cross compiling situation? What's the workbench for something like this? A VM? Aug 02 17:01:44 this does not at all touch on your device? Aug 02 17:05:48 well, I'm having the usbserial issue. From reading forums and such, it seems that getting a /dev/ttyUSB working is key. I get cdc-wdm0, and the ppp module is loaded, but no usbserial since it fails with the vendor option. So, my plan is to recompile the kernel with that option turned on, but I don't know where to start with angstrom kernel compiling Aug 02 17:06:30 I'd be surprised if the kernel didn't support usb-serial Aug 02 17:07:58 it does, it's just that the CONFIG_USB_SERIAL_GENERIC=y doesn't seem to be set to yes. Aug 02 17:08:33 and you have tried the modem on a desktop linux? Aug 02 17:08:51 no, I don't have a desktop linux. I have a mac.. It works there Aug 02 17:09:39 you might want to start with that Aug 02 17:10:35 then have a close look at how it works on the desktop before you try to replicate it on the bone Aug 02 19:19:42 Does anybody know how to set a master clk (cpu dai) for an alsa soc driver on an am335x platorm running angstrom? Aug 02 19:21:30 I can't find any clock id's for am335x to use with snd_soc_dai_set_sysclk Aug 02 19:23:09 If I ignore this part, I can measure a 25MHz signal on the ahclkx and aclkx outputs. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Fri Aug 03 02:59:58 2012
