**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue May 22 02:59:59 2012 May 22 03:02:10 KeatonT: There's a battery cape, isn't there? May 22 03:10:16 Yea I've seen a few May 22 03:10:46 * nickjohnson really wants to send off rev 2 of his stepper cape for fabrication, but should probably wait a bit to see if he forgot anything first May 22 03:11:28 KeatonT: It seems there's a charging interface on the beaglebone, but it's poorly documented in the SRM. If you wanted a rechargeable one, you'd need a boost converter, at a minimum May 22 03:11:29 nickjohnson: isn't that always fun? :) May 22 03:11:53 mranostay: Indeed. I've also got a very preliminary design for an Arduino cape, but that's far enough away from being done that I probably shouldn't wait May 22 03:11:53 knowing something will not work before you get it? May 22 03:13:01 Yes, I've managed to mostly avoid that so far May 22 03:13:11 My rev 1 turned out to be functional, but entirely impractical, though May 22 03:18:23 http://beagleboardtoys.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Prototype-Pattern.png May 22 03:18:30 ^^ that is exactly what I need. May 22 03:24:17 a tad bit expensive. May 22 03:25:55 KeatonT: http://www.adafruit.com/products/572 May 22 03:26:59 nickjohnson I can't find a schematic on how the pins are layer out. May 22 03:27:03 layed* May 22 03:27:09 *laid May 22 03:27:16 yea May 22 03:27:18 lol May 22 03:28:04 Looks like: https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-BeagleBone-ProtoBoard May 22 03:28:32 I suspect they're all individually routed, not in protoboard strips like that other one May 22 03:29:15 The one you linked to is a bit absurdly pricey May 22 03:29:44 You could get 10 PCBs made at seeed for the price of one of those May 22 03:34:08 Yea that is what I was thinking. May 22 03:34:28 Heck I even has a schematic to start with. May 22 03:34:52 have*** May 22 03:34:56 it's late. May 22 03:34:56 ... May 22 03:37:46 indeed May 22 03:37:57 Not sure how happy Seeed would be about something with that many drill holes in it, though. :) May 22 03:38:06 lol May 22 03:38:24 I might just pay the $30 bucks May 22 03:39:19 Bah :P May 22 04:32:51 hi May 22 04:35:13 Hello May 22 04:45:53 good mornig May 22 05:56:22 is USB HID enabled in Angstrom (beagleboard Xm) May 22 05:57:57 any1 has experience with HID devices? May 22 08:14:05 Hi guys, 'm trying to connect an external hd to beaglebone (3.2.14), but not having much of luck. May 22 08:14:58 As I understand, the USB support is compiled into the kernel so as SCSI and BLK_DEV, May 22 08:16:19 after connection it does enumerates, says scsi0: usb-storage 1-1:1-0, but that's all. Does someone knows what to change in the src of u-boot so that I have NO beagleboard.org logo? May 22 08:28:10 VERY URGENT!! :/ May 22 08:28:45 are you sure that it is u-boot related? May 22 08:28:59 So the threads around say. May 22 08:29:03 oO( for varying definitions of "urgent" ) May 22 08:29:23 I see it in /etc/issue May 22 08:29:34 so change it May 22 08:29:45 (also issue.net for network access) May 22 08:29:48 first thing would be to specify *what* logo, and where it gets presented. May 22 08:29:54 ..why are you looking for your car keys here under the street lamp and not where you lost them .... because there is more light here... May 22 08:30:06 LetoThe2nd: ah, OK, maybe means Texas Instrument one May 22 08:30:22 LetoThe2nd: the beagleboard.org logo that pops up at the beginning May 22 08:30:43 I have Angstrom May 22 08:30:53 steak: "at the beginning." - when using what distro? on a connected dvi/hdmi/vga screnn? or on the serial console? May 22 08:32:40 and does it still appear if you halt the boot process in u-boot? May 22 08:32:49 Startup phase, on the main screen using the DVI output, Beagleboard XM rev. C Angstrom Linux; "beagleboard.org" in image form, in orange, white and brown with tiny dog, about 400x100 px May 22 08:33:18 tasslehoff: I never tried May 22 08:33:27 thats boris May 22 08:37:52 maybe barking at boris instead of this channel is more successfull May 22 08:38:12 * LetoThe2nd still does not know if its uboot or the kernel.# May 22 08:40:11 I can't answer precisely but I'd say it's u-boot because it is visualised in an early phase May 22 08:40:28 Just after the orange screen May 22 08:40:41 and while the system loads. May 22 08:41:14 then: find out precisely. u-boot can be halted, usually by sending a character over serial line during boot delay. do that, then report back. May 22 08:41:29 the orange screen is uboot May 22 08:41:35 so I guess its kernel May 22 08:41:48 and easy to verify by e.g. removing the kernel from the sdcard May 22 08:41:51 av500: i'd guess the same, but who know... "precisely" May 22 08:41:59 av500: ok, good point. May 22 08:42:00 unfortunately the beagleboard I am working on is enclosed, I can't do it immediately. May 22 08:42:07 I mean connecting to a serial May 22 08:42:15 the rename the kernel May 22 08:42:18 steak: well you said "URGENT", we did not. May 22 08:44:15 LetoThe2nd: what's the problem about saying "URGENT"? May 22 08:44:35 this isn't payed support here May 22 08:44:48 you're very helpful LetoThe2nd, but you seem very nervous. May 22 08:45:00 so it just might have the opposite effect May 22 08:45:03 steak: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#urgent May 22 08:46:18 LetoThe2nd: the very NEXT one is for you man! http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#courtesy May 22 08:46:28 "Courtesy never hurts May 22 08:46:29 " May 22 08:47:38 thanks for your consideration, but don't use URGENT May 22 08:47:44 * LetoThe2nd hands the ticket over to av500 and aholler, with a nice pink smiley sticker on it. May 22 08:48:02 * aholler pulls out his troll t-shirt May 22 08:49:24 http://www.getdigital.de/products/Trollface/more/pic/lng/en May 22 08:50:25 Ok, ok, guys, sorry for having used the word urgent. I feel terribly ashamed! I will never use it again. May 22 08:50:33 ...but on troll T-shirts. May 22 08:51:13 Now, please, is there still someone who would like to help me to address this issue? May 22 08:51:32 if its in the kernel, you need to recompile it without logo May 22 08:52:11 .. and you have been already told how to find out. hence, regardless of the fact if someone is willing to help or not, the next step is always your to find out. May 22 08:52:56 We are tearing down the shell around the beagleboard while I write... May 22 08:52:57 appending nologo to the kernel cmd line is enough May 22 08:53:27 jannau: what what what??? May 22 08:53:30 really? May 22 08:54:02 *if* its in the kernel. May 22 08:54:14 jannau: how do I do this? May 22 08:54:21 if it's the kernel bootup logo May 22 08:54:35 It looks easy enough to be worthy a try. May 22 08:54:56 edit the uboot env May 22 08:55:46 yeah... May 22 08:56:55 and? May 22 08:57:38 My uEnv.txt contains only the following line: May 22 08:57:39 dvimode=800x600MR-16@60 May 22 08:58:11 logo.nologo maybe? May 22 08:59:59 yes, use logo.nologo. I allways forget the module. but I don't think we are there already May 22 09:01:03 I'll try in a minute May 22 09:03:50 using beaglebone, last version, which is that load address (using 0x82000000 but not working) for fatload and bootm? To say the true I found 3 version on the inernet - no one is working... May 22 09:04:39 N4ND: true, I tried several ways. May 22 09:04:52 aholler: http://www.splitreason.com/product/692 May 22 09:05:06 N4ND: just use $loadaddr May 22 09:05:08 Ok guys, I have an answer: it IS the kernel. May 22 09:05:31 If I interrupt the loading via serial the orange screen remains and that's not a problem May 22 09:05:34 * koen also wins this weeks "idiot of the week award" May 22 09:05:51 attach a cape, set address to 0x57 and suddenly the LEDs don't work anymore May 22 09:06:29 if(no cape at 0x57) { do important stuff} May 22 09:06:36 * koen changes that to a better check May 22 09:07:23 LetoThe2nd: N4ND: I'm sure it's the kernel now. May 22 09:07:45 steak: yes, then the solutions from either jannau or av500 should work. May 22 09:08:11 I'll try in a moment. THANK YOU for the help so far!! Priceless. May 22 09:10:26 aholler: which is? May 22 09:10:39 the string "logo.nologo" in the uEnv.txt doean't work. May 22 09:10:48 Am I missing something? May 22 09:11:12 append it to the existing line or use optargs= May 22 09:13:17 N4ND: printenv should tell you May 22 09:13:51 optargs isn't present at the moment May 22 09:13:58 should I add a line like: May 22 09:14:10 optargs="logo.nologo" May 22 09:14:10 aholler: I am affraid that when I am doing printenv - it is not set up yet (interrupted u-boot) May 22 09:14:11 ? May 22 09:14:30 aholler: anyway, tried the trick with $loadaddr, but does not work neither May 22 09:15:24 loaddaddr not set doesn't sound correct May 22 09:15:35 aholler: saying: Booting kerner from legazy Image at 82000000, but below "Load Address: 80008000" and "Entry Point: 80008000" May 22 09:16:08 * LetoThe2nd really hopes it does not boot kerner.. *SCNR* May 22 09:16:16 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! May 22 09:16:22 It works. May 22 09:16:28 stop shouting May 22 09:16:32 sorry May 22 09:16:38 steak: do it it again ;-) May 22 09:16:51 N4ND: the kernel relocates itself May 22 09:17:13 N4ND: *no* :) May 22 09:17:24 aholler: I would even accept $loadaddr trick, but does not work ;-( May 22 09:17:40 or u-boot does it, whatever, $loadaddr is just used by fatload and bootm May 22 09:18:02 does not work is not very descriptive May 22 09:18:02 Guys thank you SO much. You saved my day (maybe my week as well). May 22 09:18:42 aholler: saying Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel. - and then nothing... Just LED is blinking... May 22 09:19:03 if it blinks the kernel started, so your console is just wrong May 22 09:19:13 Thank you LetoThe2nd, N4ND, jannau, av500 and all the others. May 22 09:19:48 aholler: hm. OK. I will set up correct networking and try ssh... let me see (later)... May 22 09:19:53 aholler: thank you so far... May 22 09:40:57 Hi everyone, I'm trying to mux a pin as output, but I can't find which number I have to echo to put it as output: http://pastebin.com/W06SLMvA May 22 09:41:45 moreover, there is some hexa number concerning the resgister, and I don't understand how it works, after lookig on http://www.gigamegablog.com/ May 22 09:42:04 hello May 22 09:42:06 Is anyone integrated pinctrl f/w to beagleboard/beaglebone kernel May 22 09:43:16 ? May 22 09:47:59 oops, someone killed gitorious May 22 09:48:38 yeah May 22 09:48:53 * av500 cannot push GPL release stuff :( May 22 09:49:52 somebody wake me when its back up... May 22 09:55:43 av500: surely you can upload a photo of a printout on a wooden table May 22 10:10:21 av500: that's one of the reasons I switched to github, gitorious is way too flaky May 22 10:10:31 yeah May 22 10:10:48 when github goes down the github people post a post-mortem afterwards and detail the fixes May 22 10:11:00 when gitorious goes down, nothing May 22 10:11:49 av500: gitorious is up May 22 10:12:04 yes May 22 10:12:07 already pushed May 22 10:15:36 av500: did you add an extra permission forcing us to print "All hail 54Mhz" on boot? May 22 10:15:44 I still haven't found a way to see the branches in gitorious's web interface. perhaps I should move to github also, now that I already sent a pull request with a repo in github May 22 10:15:55 tomba: right hand side May 22 10:16:43 koen: ? nothing there May 22 10:18:01 tomba: branches are for whimps, make a clone May 22 10:18:02 tomba: http://meego.gitorious.org/meego-developer-tools/bootchart/commits/master May 22 10:20:39 koen: strange... http://gitorious.org/linux-omap-dss2/linux May 22 10:21:11 tomba, of course, it starts working minutes after you send the email out May 22 10:21:27 Russ: that was expected =) May 22 10:22:19 aholler: back. networking is not working. means, definitely, beaglebone is not booted like it should... May 22 10:25:45 bleh May 22 10:25:53 I hate punmixing May 22 10:28:05 hmmm May 22 10:28:21 those musb fixes from PSP turn out to be backports from 3.2.17 May 22 10:28:38 and they missed a few other musb fixes May 22 10:28:57 N4ND, As something that might be interesting - if you go from a known working image you can cat /proc/cmdline to see the setup for that. Then you can reapply them to yours. It was the quickest way for me to find correct console May 22 10:29:40 it's ttyO2 May 22 10:30:02 (on the bone) May 22 10:31:12 O0 May 22 10:31:22 O2 is for board May 22 10:31:47 ttyO0 for me on mine aholler May 22 10:31:49 .oOo. May 22 10:32:01 exosyst: ha! did not try that before. May 22 10:32:09 (unless you have the patch I just did, then ttyO2 works when you attached the rs232 cape) May 22 10:32:10 exosyst: seems fs is ext4 and not ext3 May 22 10:32:31 N4ND, Yeah, few people do but it's a great resource May 22 10:32:48 *poking around in /proc on a working image is May 22 10:33:20 ah, the bone added confusion. sorry, I don't have one ;) May 22 10:33:36 koen: what cheap scope is that? May 22 10:33:41 exosyst: 100 points for you sir! May 22 10:34:52 what, people don't start from a working baseline? May 22 10:35:37 the next board will use ttyO1 or ttyB0 ;) May 22 10:36:01 aholler, exosyst (and others): thank you. I am more happy now. 1st step I wanted to do (from 100 others ) is accomplished. May 22 10:36:06 koen, Some people throw an entirely new distro onto and get left with a very sad device. May 22 10:36:59 koen, The reverse is where you have an EVK with one setup and then the final hardware arrives with a different serial driver or something. Lots of shouting back and forth :D May 22 10:36:59 aholler: just back to this $loadaddr... which is correct one then? May 22 10:37:18 (I have to reuse mkimage) May 22 10:37:36 why you don't look at the u-boot which was delivered with the board? that would have had ttyO0 too May 22 10:38:10 aholler: and where? uEnv.txt is more or less empty... printenv is not possible... so how? May 22 10:38:30 why is printenv not possible? May 22 10:39:16 put uenvcmd=printenv into uEnv.txt if you can't press a key May 22 10:39:19 aholler: because is saying wrong address May 22 10:39:49 aholler: but OK, I can try all these combinations May 22 10:41:32 anyway, just ask someone else, I don't have a bone and I don't want to support u-boot anymore May 22 10:42:03 OK. I just mean, I see "Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 82000000" and then "Load Address: 80008000" and "Entry Point: 80008000". May 22 10:42:54 I just do not understand why it is not described somehere. There aree dozens of description how to put there some other distro, but 90% is for beagleboard, and 10% wrong May 22 11:01:56 koen: snowball is overtaking you with DT support.... May 22 11:02:12 <_troll_> wake me when snowball has audio drivers May 22 11:02:30 _troll_: lost your host? May 22 12:08:27 Actually - it's linux/sysfs as well... just to make it interesting May 22 12:12:57 If I want to set something to an input, what's the number that needs to be echoed into /sys/kernel/debug/omap_mux/gpmc_ad7? May 22 12:13:17 Its an output by default apparently :-/ May 22 13:19:19 Are there any gotchas when using GPIO1_7 for interrupt generation on the bone? May 22 13:28:08 /msg nickserv identify 3rt43dan May 22 13:28:29 hm. suggestion: change pw. May 22 13:28:38 lol, yeah May 22 13:29:20 damn, me too now... May 22 13:29:58 dont worry your password appears to us as ******* May 22 13:33:43 niro, Suggest changing the password on your virgin router as well May 22 13:34:52 what a f**kin great day this is turning out to be May 22 13:35:03 I KID I KID :D May 22 13:37:11 hi May 22 13:37:26 ive trouble using the 0xlab android on beagle-xm May 22 13:37:41 there is just a black screen after booting May 22 13:38:02 serial console says everything boots up normally but i dont get anything on the screen yet May 22 13:39:48 is there any configuration (i.e. the boot args or any environment) that i need to set up? May 22 13:40:16 hi folks, how do I debug why pvrsrvinit doesn't exit cleanly? May 22 13:40:37 exosyst, I realised after I tried to get into my router and couldn't. May 22 13:40:42 lol May 22 13:40:54 niro, Sorry dude! May 22 13:41:31 it's ok. lol. I need to change my passwords anyways. Just forces me to now. May 22 13:43:16 Any ideas? May 22 13:53:42 Nope. Still not understanding interrupts on this bloody chip :-S May 22 13:55:43 What chip? May 22 13:56:51 niro, Using the beaglebone so the AM3359 I think. Trying to do it the 'linux way' but am clearly confused May 22 13:57:06 What are you trying to do? May 22 13:57:44 Trigger an interrupt on GPIO1_7 May 22 13:58:31 Voltage goes in from Vdd, drains through GPIO1_7 should trigger an interrupt I think...? May 22 13:58:55 I use gpio_to_irq(39) to get the irq, set an interrupt handler for it *aaaand* nothing :( May 22 14:03:51 It's more confusing based on the fact that if I cat from /sys/kernel/debug/omap_mux/gpmc_ad7 it's shown as OMAP_PIN_OUTPUT... wtf? May 22 14:05:23 Normally this would make sense, but I haven't eaten anything all day. May 22 14:10:32 exosyst, I don't know if this helps. But apparently, the GPIO1_7 pin isn't set as GPIO as default. May 22 14:10:41 niro, wait, what? May 22 14:11:06 https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/beagleboard/oWulB8CO0gc May 22 14:11:35 niro, That doesn't seem right :-S May 22 14:12:35 I'm clutching at straws, I just thought it might be a possibility. May 22 14:13:22 So if i write directly to GPIO_STATUS_RAW I can get it to interrupt but applying voltage to the pin does nothing WTAF? May 22 14:45:03 Anyone knows what pvrsrvinit is supposed to do? May 22 14:45:28 init the pvr srv? May 22 14:45:43 which is? May 22 14:46:05 that sgx thing May 22 14:46:07 the 3d core May 22 14:46:10 oh, that thing again May 22 14:46:30 it has many names by which to hate it.... May 22 14:46:50 but no matter what I do (except running the install script which I'm trying to avoid) makes the pvrsrvinit blob return successfully. May 22 14:47:25 It's good with alternatives, especcially when it comes to hate... May 22 14:47:36 correct spelling is good as well May 22 14:48:14 however, I can't find anything telling me what's going wrong. I'm trying to run the /etc/init.d/rc.pvr script manually. May 22 14:48:24 pvrsrvinit just exit(1) May 22 14:49:02 according to strace it looks like it's looking for something May 22 14:53:05 Is there a quick and dirty way to set the GPIO to an interruptible interrupt from userspace? May 22 14:53:12 echoing something to debugfs perhaps? May 22 14:53:21 find / -name something May 22 14:54:12 s/interrupt/gpio May 22 14:54:30 do you know what driver it is? May 22 15:33:45 sakoman: ping May 22 15:35:19 fierman, ping May 22 15:35:47 bradfa: May 22 15:36:01 the usb disconnect issue? :) May 22 15:36:08 fierman, yes, working better now? May 22 15:36:20 bradfa: haven;t had time to check really, busy. May 22 15:36:26 were you able to replicate it ? May 22 15:36:36 fierman, haven't tried yet, wanted to get more info from you first May 22 15:36:59 fierman, can you pastebin the kernel config and provide a link to the kernel sources you used? May 22 15:37:25 bradfa: i can do that,. but not now. will be tomorrow or tonight somewhere. thanks for looking into it in advance :) May 22 15:37:59 ok, that's OK, I'm rather busy these days too, but happy to help other Debian users :) May 22 15:38:15 cheers :) May 22 15:47:17 <_troll_> XorA: ping May 22 15:49:22 Grr! That didn't work either. Any one know about interrupts on the beagle? May 22 15:49:38 https://gist.github.com/2769392 I can't understand why the GPIO doesn't trigger May 22 15:50:59 exosyst: I got attachInterrupt working last week in bonescript. May 22 15:51:29 jkridner, I want to do it from a kernel module... do you have code I can have a look at? May 22 15:51:31 jkridner: it was the numpins field that is confused between ascii/hex May 22 15:51:40 mine is userspace May 22 15:51:47 Aww :( May 22 15:52:15 this is driving me insane, why can't there just be a IRQ_GPIO1_6 defined in irqs.h :( May 22 15:53:36 IRQ_GPIO38 ? May 22 15:54:18 koen, are you kidding me? May 22 15:54:51 koen, phew, I thought that was a real thing and I was going mad :D May 22 15:55:19 koen, Is there something like that though? May 22 15:55:21 gpio1_6 is just long hand for 38 May 22 15:55:54 koen, I'm wanting 39, GPIO1_7. I'm putting the voltage high and it doesn't seem to trigger. May 22 15:56:15 koen, The gist above gives an idea of where my madness its taking me :D May 22 15:56:54 Just to clarify - IRQ_GPIO38 doesn't exist on my beaglebone May 22 15:56:55 * kkeller magic formula : GPIOx_y = GPIO(x*32) + y May 22 15:57:22 kkeller, Yeah, I got that but what should be firing... kinda doesn't May 22 15:57:54 * koen pokes jkridner to respond to the bonescript emails May 22 15:58:14 I use request_irq(gpio_to_irq(39), ....) but there's no firing when I drag the line high May 22 15:59:47 koen: passive agressive? May 22 16:00:51 av500: I wouldn't call poking passive :) May 22 16:01:30 use a hot poker May 22 16:03:25 * jkridner was just told about http://code.google.com/p/flot/ May 22 16:09:19 jkridner: cute, too bad it is in java May 22 16:09:29 javascript May 22 16:09:35 Flot is a pure Javascript plotting library for jQuery. May 22 16:09:49 prpplague doesn't know the difference May 22 16:10:07 * jkridner reads the mailing list for bonescript questions. May 22 16:10:16 hehe, sorry i just saw java, missed the script portion May 22 16:10:26 jkridner: your personal mail, e.g. jdk@ti May 22 16:10:31 prpplague: it's the branding that counts :) May 22 16:10:54 ah... I am locked out of that account currently. guess I'll fix that first. May 22 16:11:32 ho ho hum May 22 16:11:40 * prpplague feels a little overwhelmed today May 22 16:13:57 Can I interrupt on a pin that is set to OMAP_PIN_OUTPUT | OMAP_MUX_MODE0? May 22 16:14:22 you'll want MODE7 May 22 16:14:42 and you'll want to enable the rx May 22 16:16:09 jkridner, How do you mean? I can do the MODE7 from userspace (I echo in a 7 right?) but what do you mean the rx? May 22 16:16:40 I can't export it as I want to dick with GPIO1_7 from my kernel module, not via sysfs May 22 16:17:00 koen: anyone else noticed something quirky going on with the logins at arm.linux.org.uk ? May 22 16:17:21 ask the chinese May 22 16:18:31 prpplague: I stopped using that years ago May 22 16:19:42 koen: i need to get in to update a few items in the machine registry and the password i have doesn't work, plus it isn't sending me an email to update password May 22 16:19:49 koen: in fact none of my accounts work May 22 16:20:11 * prpplague wonders if rmk has it disabled May 22 16:20:28 exosyst: look in the TRM at the pin mux registers. the omap_mux file echos the register values. there is a field for 'rx'. you can also look at the bonescript code for reference. May 22 16:20:46 I can see the headline: "arm.linux.org.uk totally f*****" May 22 16:21:03 jkridner, So it's not as simple as writing to GPIO_OE then :( May 22 16:21:29 I don't know what GPIO_OE is. May 22 16:21:35 koen: hehe May 22 16:22:12 exosyst: it is as simple as writing to the file in the omap_mux directory, but I don't remember which bit has the 'rx' enable. May 22 16:22:29 you'll want MODE7, which is GPIO... May 22 16:22:39 and you'll want the RX enabled.... May 22 16:22:50 then it comes to configuring the GPIO itself. May 22 16:22:57 that should be all you need for the mux. May 22 16:23:00 oh ok, I'll have a look. I've got MODE7 happy, just that RX thing. I'd ideally like to do all this from the kernel module though May 22 16:24:27 as far as i recall, it is 0x27, but I'd rather you check that with the TRM. May 22 16:25:25 I've got the TRM for the AM335X and it's not that clear on what to mess with just to get simple interrupt stuff. There's a valid need for material that bridges TRM->Linux API :D May 22 16:25:29 gpio_to_irq(39); ? May 22 16:26:39 koen, The code I posted ( https://gist.github.com/2769392 ) has that in, but it doesn't work in so much as no interrupts are received except the one I force by writing to the register May 22 16:28:30 It's clear that there's overlap between the kernel API and the registers because setting IRQF_TRIGGER_RISING | IRQF_TRIGGER_FALLING has the same result as setting GPIO_LEVELDETECT0 and GPIO_LEVELDETECT1 May 22 16:30:12 exosyst, is your pad conf set to 0x27 as jkridner suggests? May 22 16:31:21 mdp, It's 0x30... I need to figure out how to get it to 0x27. I'm happy to do this from userspace (if anyone knows how?) May 22 16:32:08 mdp, correction - it's set to 0x7 May 22 16:32:21 * koen looks at 3.2.18 changelog May 22 16:33:08 exosyst, then the receiver for that pad is definitely disabled…if it makes you feel better, that explains why it doesn't see your external event May 22 16:33:27 mdp, Uh... cool? Any ideas on how to fix it? May 22 16:34:33 see syntax in http://www.gigamegablog.com/2012/01/22/beaglebone-coding-101-using-the-serial-and-analog-pins/ May 22 16:35:15 echo 27 > [your node] May 22 16:36:17 mdp, Cool, but if I cat it, it's still an output right? May 22 16:36:30 exosyst, that's an OMAP-ism May 22 16:36:46 ignore the unhelpful bogus reporting that the userspace api provides May 22 16:36:54 mdp, WELL AIN'T THAT SUM SHI- May 22 16:36:56 It works May 22 16:37:11 Now how the hell do I do that from Kernel space lol May 22 16:39:29 mdp, Thanks loads for that, and to jkridner for the pointers. At least I know my little hardware setup is correct May 22 16:39:37 if you are doing a driver, generally it will be registered as a platform driver…along with that you need to register a platform device in the board-am335xevm.c file..as a part of that platform device registration you typically do the pin muxing there…there's a bunch of examples in that file you can follow May 22 16:40:19 {"ecap0_in_pwm0_out.gpio0_7", OMAP_MUX_MODE7 | AM33XX_PIN_INPUT} May 22 16:40:20 mdp, Yeah I saw that - it's all in kernel specific format for initialising though I think (platform_devices). I need to have this in a loadable/removable format for my course May 22 16:40:50 you can make the underlying calls in the init entry of the module..register driver/device/pinmuxing May 22 16:42:29 exosyst, am335x kernel support is very incomplete so you'll see misleading and broken things like that OMAP_PIN_OUTPUT flag around unfortunately May 22 16:42:32 mdp, I've not done that before - is there any example reloadable code you can recommend? May 22 16:43:06 mdp, It's a bit upsetting. I looked at it a number of times (not twigging the fact the hex was different) May 22 16:43:49 it'll be addressed eventually May 22 16:43:57 that OUTPUT flag in sysfs has been fixed in recent angstrom kernels May 22 16:44:01 somebody will care enough to submit a patch to koen May 22 16:44:04 there you go! May 22 16:44:53 mdp: remind me, D0 is MISO? May 22 16:45:19 koen, mdp It's my own fault for going with poky + meta-ti May 22 16:45:32 koen, SPI_D0 is MISO May 22 16:45:40 koen, SPI_D1 is MOSI May 22 16:46:00 koen, yes, in linux :) May 22 16:46:01 yes, stop using that poky crappola May 22 16:47:04 :) May 22 16:47:20 should we rename this channel to #angstrom? :) May 22 16:47:25 koen, if somebody designs a board with reverse usage…we'll have to add a field to reverse those on a per instance basis May 22 16:47:46 Surely it should be #arago? =) May 22 16:47:46 koen, not a big deal, but hasn't happened' May 22 16:48:06 exosyst: there is one, but definitely not this one :) :-P May 22 16:52:54 koen: merged yet? http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/printerd-aims-to-be-a-modern-print-spooler-for-Linux-1582071.html May 22 16:54:15 The printerd daemon is PolicyKit-enabled and uses D-Bus to communicate with other applications. Waugh points out, that as a design decision, printerd will only accept PDF files as input. May 22 16:54:54 hah May 22 17:00:44 hello all. Does any1 has experience in connecting touchscreen to beagleboard (Angstrom) ? May 22 17:03:18 it is possible May 22 17:04:11 ive used this before: http://tinyurl.com/c3nhm9w it works May 22 17:04:33 av500: I was planning to show that to mru May 22 17:05:04 make him sit down 1st.. May 22 17:05:22 sorry i meant this one : http://tinyurl.com/cz4zflu I think that one is for pandaboad May 22 17:05:36 borad? May 22 17:05:53 broad May 22 17:05:58 board :/ May 22 17:05:58 <_troll_> pandaborad.org May 22 17:06:00 jeesus May 22 17:06:25 jeeesus used to run Linux May 22 17:06:36 I doubt May 22 17:06:38 then M$ made XP cheap May 22 17:07:04 <_troll_> whatever he ran, I'm sure he cross-compiled May 22 17:07:27 and here we have a winner: http://www.esky-sh.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=448 May 22 17:07:32 this was the one i used.... sigh May 22 17:08:03 ...the source code of linux touch sreen driver is on MicroSD card shipped with frame..... May 22 17:08:43 ... yea they shipped it with something... i dont know i didnt care... May 22 17:08:46 it just worked straight off May 22 17:09:13 koen: hmm, so emaild might be next? May 22 17:09:25 merged into webd soon May 22 17:09:35 jwz's law May 22 17:09:50 hmmm there seems to be a problem with the drivers : http://www.esky-sh.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=463&start=10 May 22 17:09:51 I used that in a slide recently :) May 22 17:10:13 and since Petar wants to run it on angstrom ... do read it May 22 17:10:44 bah - it's a shame all the omap mux stuff isn't available as non-board stuff :( May 22 17:10:54 Gonna bang some registers her her her May 22 17:11:05 Petar_: please message here May 22 17:11:10 so others can help you aswell May 22 17:11:18 sorry, browser crashed May 22 17:11:29 please keep meaningful discussion in private messages! May 22 17:11:33 aaah okay May 22 17:11:44 ah, ph0rums May 22 17:11:51 Petar_: i didnt do anything i just used this screen http://www.esky-sh.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=448 May 22 17:11:56 what did you guys do to run touchscreen on Angstrom ? May 22 17:11:58 connected it and voila May 22 17:12:26 i have : Cando 10.1 Multi Touch Panel with Controller May 22 17:12:51 but dmesg after recognizing it says: generic-usb 0003:2087:0A01.0005: claimed by neither input, hiddev nor hidraw May 22 17:13:27 and touchcreen is not workng. Do i have to enable it somehow ? May 22 17:14:35 load the driver May 22 17:15:15 how ? May 22 17:15:30 zgrep CONFIG_HID_MULTITOUCH /proc/config.gz May 22 17:16:02 ok i will try it now May 22 17:20:05 nothing changed, again same. i tried reconnecting. May 22 17:21:05 zgrep doesn't load the driver, it just prints if it is enabled in the kernel May 22 17:21:21 i did not get any output May 22 17:21:54 exosyst: I don't know of a good example to cite…can only really cite in-kernel examples May 22 17:22:18 * mdp notes the "bbs" in the ph0rum url..and sets baudrate to 300 May 22 17:22:25 Petar_: then you need to enable it in the kernel. May 22 17:22:35 mdp, Yeah it's a pain. I'm going to get it working by dicking with the register May 22 17:22:36 how to do that ? May 22 17:22:52 I'll post it up on a gist... this stuff is valuable to me, hopefully someone else will find it too May 22 17:23:05 exosyst, that's legal :) make it work…refine later May 22 17:23:29 exosyst, you can be another in a long line of documented things that are scattered across the intertubes May 22 17:23:30 Tartarus: ping? May 22 17:23:44 If only there was a beaglebone wiki ;) May 22 17:23:54 mdp, Full to the brim of delicious recipes May 22 17:24:05 aholler: is there any easier way to do that besides rebuilding kernel ? May 22 17:24:25 hey ilya May 22 17:24:40 Petar_: sure, find someone which does it for you May 22 17:24:51 exosyst, lots of wikis, take your pick…you can have any type of information you want as long as it's stale. May 22 17:25:09 mdp, lol - that's a pretty sad indictment May 22 17:25:32 hi Tom! Do you have an idea why mainline am335x_evm u-boot has ATAGS disabled? May 22 17:26:00 aholler: thanks :) May 22 17:26:12 exosyst: with apologies to henry ford on that one ;) May 22 17:26:22 Petar_: maybe it is another config option, I've looked at kernel 3.4. just check it yourself May 22 17:26:33 ilya: Yes, the config is far too sparse May 22 17:26:51 more interestingly, if I try to enable it, board hits data abort before bringing up the console May 22 17:27:14 Did you grab my patch to disable calling init_timer twice? May 22 17:27:21 That was breaking all sorts of stuff May 22 17:28:04 hm. not sure. I've started from your u-boot-ti tree May 22 17:28:15 do you have it there? May 22 17:29:43 aholler: does narcissus build has it integrated ? May 22 17:29:53 don't know May 22 17:30:15 don't think so, 3.3 and 3.4 are broken for omap May 22 17:30:49 so check your 3.2 kernel May 22 17:32:35 i mean, it is easier for me to dowload some image with enbled HID driver. Do you have any suggestion for that ? May 22 17:34:04 Tartarus: found the patch and applied it. unfortunately no luck May 22 17:34:26 Ug, another annoying difference between the mainline and arago tree May 22 17:35:58 I've tried to steptrace it via JTAG. it looks like it starts jumping randomly at some point May 22 17:36:09 Could it be corrupted stack? May 22 17:38:44 does everybody notice that http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KW80M6 has the BeagleBone for $79? May 22 17:47:50 ilya: could be May 22 17:48:01 ilya: lemme see what I've got around still here May 22 17:53:28 koen: were there other questions than the one about the PWM support? May 22 17:54:00 analog.js has a test for analogRead() and analogWrite(). analogWrite() is just a PWM. May 22 17:54:31 I added a frequency field for it. May 22 18:02:35 is that just PWM or EHPWM? May 22 18:02:57 what is the difference again? May 22 18:03:43 <_av500_> one works with python.... May 22 18:03:50 resolution May 22 18:04:18 heh May 22 18:04:46 ds2: what is the resolution difference? May 22 18:04:55 4-5 bits May 22 18:05:44 ls May 22 18:05:51 <_av500_> . May 22 18:05:52 <_av500_> .. May 22 18:06:17 I really need to take more time before I type. May 22 18:06:36 but only at the higher clock rates May 22 18:06:38 I posted the final code over on https://gist.github.com/2769392 - feel free to point people at it if they're trying to do the same dirty stuff May 22 18:07:17 exosyst, did you manage to fix it May 22 18:07:18 ? May 22 18:07:23 niro, Yup May 22 18:07:45 niro, Hence the line #define AM33XX_CONTROL_PADCONF_MUX_PBASE 0x44E10000LU >:) May 22 18:07:57 * exosyst queues maniacal laugh May 22 18:08:22 Was that the only change you made? May 22 18:09:48 niro, ish, had to do dickery with the control module register so ioremap'd it in and overwrote it May 22 18:11:35 The omap GPIO are certainly an interesting way to tackle things - I wish there were more kernel/userspace examples rather than the bonescript. May 22 18:14:48 I welcome fixes to that gist from the TI guys btw - I don't *think* i'm clobbering what I shouldn't :D May 22 18:16:15 ds2: iirc it covers both ecap and ehr May 22 18:30:33 yum, pizza :) May 22 18:33:22 exosyst, bonescript is the only thing the beagle community wants to use :) May 22 18:43:11 my last weekend, i'm in the last image. http://djlewis.us/astronomy/star-parties/MtMagazine-spring-2012/magazine-spring-2012.htm May 22 18:49:38 what kind of bandwidth does the beaglebone allow on its gpio May 22 18:50:03 what kind of "device" are they anyways May 22 18:50:38 "bandwidth"? May 22 18:50:57 http://beagleboard.org/ May 22 18:50:59 djlewis: looks like fun May 22 18:51:05 was :) May 22 18:51:31 * koen checks http://beagleborad.org/ May 22 18:51:55 koen, is that new site? May 22 18:51:58 koen, NSFW :) May 22 18:52:02 mdp: yes bandwidth. how fast are they? May 22 18:52:27 as in bits per second May 22 18:53:25 in theory you can have the PRUss toggle a GPIO at 66MHz May 22 18:53:40 koen, what if you push the TURBO button? then how fast? May 22 18:54:03 or up the power to 120V? May 22 18:54:19 * koen pushes the TURBO BOOST button May 22 18:54:23 bradfa, what do you need the gpio for? maybe you want to use one of the other pins May 22 18:54:30 still 66MHz, but it looks cooler May 22 18:54:44 Russ, I don't need the GPIO, heeen is asking, I'm being sarcastic :) May 22 18:54:45 heeen: all I know is the functional clock maxes at 100MHz May 22 18:54:59 sorry, heeen what do you need the GPIO for?_ May 22 18:55:15 koen, your games will not run right with TURBO on May 22 18:55:29 what is a PRU May 22 18:55:35 can't find that on wikipedia May 22 18:55:51 koen, stick with 4.77MHz ;) May 22 18:56:01 talking about GPIOs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a2BbZovlki9CFegW3cOtaGKJ36RNhF8CYKeHJw10ows/edit May 22 18:56:28 Russ: I was just asking in general. what other output pins are there than gpio May 22 18:56:43 i2c, spio, pwm, gpmc May 22 18:56:45 LCD May 22 18:56:54 sdio May 22 18:56:54 power, gnd May 22 18:56:57 uart May 22 18:57:06 koen, you know, given that this max theorectical and practical (in both kernel/userspace) toggle rate comes up again..maybe you should add that in there May 22 18:57:16 theoretical even May 22 18:57:17 are those proper hardwar implementations or are they implemented in software May 22 18:57:51 heeen, they are h/w blocks May 22 18:58:25 no one wants to read before asking their questions any more :( May 22 18:58:28 heeen, everything is dma capable too May 22 18:58:40 djlewis, irc is the new manual May 22 18:59:20 what does PRU stand for May 22 19:00:03 "Siri, what is the dma channel(s) I can use with the am335x uarts?" May 22 19:01:19 djlewis, I would like somebody to answer questions like that for me so I don't have to read…I could focus on task then May 22 19:01:40 I am amazed at the patience here today May 22 19:02:16 I've found that when I was billing by the hour, my patience was nearly infinite May 22 19:03:14 djlewis, wait until friday…there will be a reckoning May 22 19:03:41 http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Programmable_Realtime_Unit_Subsystem May 22 19:04:10 reckonings on Fridays? something useful happens on Fridays? May 22 19:04:58 I think some people ask questions on fridays and probably just end up in tears ;) May 22 19:07:00 what is the PRUSS used for in commercial products May 22 19:07:17 real time industrial things May 22 19:07:17 mdp: that got a lol from me May 22 19:07:50 like signal processing and such? May 22 19:08:06 heeen: come back on friday and ask your questions ;) May 22 19:08:17 more like things you would use a dedicated ARM microcontroller for May 22 19:08:32 hmm interesting May 22 19:08:35 just the PRUSS is embedded in the AM335x, so things like shared memory work May 22 19:08:43 and passing data back and forth is faster May 22 19:08:50 at least that's my take May 22 19:09:18 then again, I'm not using PRUSS, nor have I ever, so don't take my word on it ;0 May 22 19:09:31 so if you wanted to drive, say, a display that used some kind of propietary bus that you would have to drive yourself May 22 19:09:41 that would be a usecase May 22 19:09:51 bradfa: so are you dazzling us with your brilliance or baffling us with your bs ;) May 22 19:10:54 bradfa: its a joke,,,, May 22 19:11:27 anyway you are right on with the PRU discussion over the past few weeks. May 22 19:12:36 * djlewis sits back and swallows his quiet pill . . . May 22 19:13:19 djlewis, let's go with baffling with brilliance, that sounds best :) May 22 19:13:26 :) May 22 19:14:00 last I knew, there was no C compiler. I like assembly, and the PRU doesn't have that complex of an assembly language, but that gave me pause May 22 19:14:39 * bradfa gets back to work being annoyed at TI PSP kernel... May 22 19:17:55 bradfa: a small word of advice: stop caring about PSP kernels May 22 19:18:36 my work got a lot more fun when I stopped caring about those :) May 22 19:18:46 and start caring about PSP kernel forks :) May 22 19:19:17 don't care for those either May 22 19:19:19 where's forks that don't constantly get rebased? May 22 19:19:20 PSP, playstation portable? May 22 19:19:24 I use those and work on them, but don't care May 22 19:49:02 anyone here seen this? http://www.geek.com/articles/chips/via-launch-a-49-android-pc-20120522/ May 22 19:56:31 only about 1200 times in the last hour May 22 20:02:00 prpplague: <$50!!! May 22 20:02:18 mdp: wahoooo! May 22 20:19:29 mmm May 22 20:28:04 jkridner: https://github.com/izaakschroeder/node-avahi/ May 22 20:45:28 _troll_: brainzzzzz May 22 20:47:20 _troll_: you have that registered? May 22 20:49:28 mranostay, trollborad.org May 22 22:23:12 wb denix May 22 22:32:13 wb? May 22 22:33:36 (welcome back) May 22 22:35:50 see even kkeller is up the all the youngster lingo these days May 22 22:36:29 happens by association with you for 3 yrs May 22 22:47:45 kkeller: probably seems like 6 :P May 22 22:49:00 known mdp for 14 yrs… damn I AM old… :( May 22 23:06:13 whoa 14?! May 22 23:06:23 feel like such a n00b May 23 00:51:32 anyone can tell me if digikey is selling the latest version of BeagleBone? May 23 00:54:28 have you checked the catalog? May 23 00:55:35 http://search.digikey.com/us/en/cat/programmers-development-systems/general-embedded-dev-boards-and-kits-mcu-dsp-fpga-cpld/2621773?k=beaglebone May 23 00:55:54 are you talking about that? May 23 00:56:21 tholm, 'latest' are you looking for a specific version, they should be A5's.. May 23 00:56:43 hi rcn-ee May 23 00:56:58 howdy ;) May 23 00:57:49 what do you say .. should i buy that version "A5"? May 23 00:59:02 is working fine the A5 version? May 23 00:59:16 tholm, based on schematics posted here https://github.com/circuitco A5 is the lastest version of the beaglebone.. May 23 01:03:37 rcn-ee: http://beagleboard.org/static/beaglebone/latest/README.htm here says A6 version May 23 01:04:40 humm, idk... haven't seen anyone post anything on the a6 yet.. May 23 01:33:51 hey, thanks for the help last night, guys. I've got 3.2.16 installed and drivers loaded for the rt2800usb and zd1211rw adapters I've got on hand. May 23 01:34:18 fighting with the config, though -- plenty of errors about rfkill, which I can't seem to figure out. anyone have any experience with that? May 23 01:34:19 so you got everything working sbma44 May 23 01:35:22 rcn-ee: nah, can't bring the interface up. I did a `wpa_passphrase > /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf` and added the allow-hotplug keyword to /etc/network/interfaces May 23 01:36:07 doesn't seem to come up though. rebooting to make sure I've got it right... May 23 01:38:22 yeah, so: nothing in ifconfig, iwconfig lists wlan0 but it's not associated. ifup wlan0 delivers "Could not set interface wlan0 flags: Operation not possible due to RF-kill" May 23 01:39:02 all my googling suggests using rfkill to eliminate the block but afaict it's not functional on the system -- there's a kernel module but I have no idea how it's supposed to work. doesn't seem to be any executable May 23 01:40:56 not sure, never seen that error before, i have it set as an external module.. May 23 01:43:19 rcn-ee: I was looking through opkg list for anything that'd give me rfkill, thinking it was just a package I was missing. so perhaps I shouldn't have added the kernel module. doesn't seem to have helped; I was seeing this behavior before May 23 01:53:54 alright, different question -- http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.beagleboard.user/31619 made me try setting the WiFi section to true in /var/lib/connman/settings May 23 01:54:19 instead of rfkill problems that gives me "Could not set interface wlan0 flags: No such file or directory" when I ifup wlan0 or try wpa_supplicant. unsure if this is progress? May 23 02:32:02 Hello - I am trying to mount a USB thumb drive on my beaglebone. I am using Kernel Rev 3.2.16. If I type in dmesg | tail, it recognizes that a USB drive has been inserted, but it doesn't 'assign' it to anything (sdX). It worked with 3.2.5+, but not 3.2.16. Any advice? May 23 02:32:28 hmm, rolled it back. compiled the rfkill command line tool. it lists a softblock for a wireless LAN interface, but the unblock command doesn't seem to do anything. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Wed May 23 02:59:59 2012
