BEWARE! Oct 04 03:51:25 ka6sox: granted, that LEA that its' cloning doesn't have FLASH at all Oct 04 03:51:41 so really, not a whole lot of advantages to it Oct 04 03:53:57 right Oct 04 07:10:40 Hello, has anyone problems with the use of an SD card in the beagle bone? Oct 04 07:10:54 <_av500_> define problems Oct 04 07:11:49 I encounter read errors, specifically: Sep 29 01:20:53 kernel: mmcblk0: retrying using single block read Oct 04 07:12:16 <_av500_> tried a different card? Oct 04 07:13:02 I already investigated the problem by trying in total 10 different micro SD cards from different brands Oct 04 07:13:40 The class 10 cards seem to perform better, but I can't explain why that would be so. Oct 04 07:14:46 The controller of Class 10 cards apply to a different standard (version 3.0), Oct 04 07:15:43 but i can't find out any good reason why the card fails. Oct 04 07:16:11 Te problem is more widespread, as to google. Many Raspberry pi users have it too. Oct 04 07:16:57 Some caused by faulty power supplies, or type of SD cards, but never a good explanation why the problem occurs Oct 04 07:17:16 Have you heard of the problem before? Oct 04 07:22:39 <_av500_> not aware of Oct 04 07:22:43 <_av500_> my cards work Oct 04 07:23:09 shhhh Oct 04 07:23:43 <_av500_> Leonard: ask on the mailing list Oct 04 07:23:49 <_av500_> if all fails, consider RMA Oct 04 07:27:34 To be honest, I'm not using the Beaglebone (yet), but the AriaG25 SOM from acmesystems. But I started asking around for people with comparable problems as they seem to occur at different platforms Oct 04 07:28:06 Good to hear you don't have the problem, as the cause seems hard to find Oct 04 07:28:18 May I ask which card you are using? Oct 04 07:47:38 <_av500_> Leonard: so you are asking about issues with sd card on the bone, but you dont have the bone Oct 04 07:47:42 <_av500_> and thus no issues Oct 04 07:51:16 Well, I'm not using the Raspberry as well, but people encounter the same error on that platform. So I was wondering if that's the same for the bone as i'm thinking about switching to the bone. Excuse me for not being clear enough.. Oct 04 07:52:18 <_av500_> that acmesystem (lol) thing does not even use the same SoC Oct 04 08:00:47 True, but neither the Raspberry pi does Oct 04 08:01:48 As the problem seems to come from the SD card itself, then the bone should have those issues as well Oct 04 08:57:27 can i ask here something about beaglebone black? Oct 04 08:58:09 I am new to the linux kernal building procedure. Oct 04 10:21:55 where did i get the exact and working step by step instructions of building kernal for beaglebone black (ubuntu)? Oct 04 13:24:06 hi Oct 04 13:24:15 Just new to Beagle Oct 04 13:24:42 Can anyone tell me how to get started to flash an led on C ? Oct 04 13:24:50 any good tutorial online? Oct 04 13:26:56 http://learnbuildshare.wordpress.com/2013/05/19/beaglebone-black-controlling-user-leds-using-c/ Oct 04 13:32:02 oh finally I can learn how to blink LEDs using a gigahertz cpu! Oct 04 13:34:12 * mru learned how to blink LEDs using two transistors Oct 04 13:35:59 <_vicash_> Hello BBB Users, Does anyone know if perl modules like LWP and DBIx::Class and/or Moose work on the BBB ? Oct 04 13:36:55 why would they not? Oct 04 13:37:01 it's a goddamn computer Oct 04 13:37:03 it runs code Oct 04 13:37:23 mru, needs some beer Oct 04 13:39:10 <_vicash_> mru: just confirming. i grep'ed the setup-scripts and couldn't find lwp, dbix listed amongst the modules that are supported out of the box. Sure I can try with CPAN on the BBB but that will be much slower to process and shit might not build Oct 04 13:40:14 building native always works Oct 04 13:40:24 but it might take a while depending on what you're building Oct 04 13:42:38 <_vicash_> mru: agreed. i need to use a microSD card for this then Oct 04 13:43:37 <_vicash_> mru: is there a way to change the bitbake files themselves so that the build is actually done on a system that builds the Angstrom image itself so that the image for teh BBB already has all the modules needed ? Oct 04 13:49:30 <_av500_> ? Oct 04 13:50:16 <_av500_> I thought perl modules are not built Oct 04 13:50:20 <_av500_> arent they perl scripts? Oct 04 13:50:26 depends Oct 04 13:50:41 they can have native code too Oct 04 13:51:16 <_av500_> so they same way as when making python usable Oct 04 13:51:41 <_vicash_> _av500_: especially database modules definitely have native code as there is an interface between the C database libraries and the perl higher abstractions Oct 04 13:55:14 _av500_: nope. python always needs building, perl only needs building when there is native code in there Oct 04 13:55:55 and python _never_ builds correctly Oct 04 13:56:01 <_av500_> KotH: I meant the natice C modules for python Oct 04 13:56:28 _av500_: yes. but python needs "building" even if it's python only Oct 04 13:56:31 for some reason or other Oct 04 13:57:09 it's so it can fail in more inscrutable ways Oct 04 14:42:30 <_vicash_> how does Debian compare to Angstrom when running on the BBB ? I have only run Angstrom versions on it hence wondering if instead of playing with Angstrom I can just use a Debian install on the BBB and let Debian's package management solve my Perl Module problems Oct 04 14:43:47 Same Rev. Same Board different network card? HOW IS POSSIBLE? Oct 04 14:44:00 now i need to upgrate the debian Oct 04 14:44:10 but the dist-upgrade doesnt works Oct 04 14:44:23 Doeas somebody have ideas? Oct 04 14:44:28 *Does Oct 04 14:47:32 av500: ^^ Oct 04 14:49:55 <_av500_> ? Oct 04 14:50:07 <_av500_> I know nothing about debian Oct 04 14:50:19 <_av500_> other than ubuntu ss based on it Oct 04 14:50:19 <_av500_> is Oct 04 14:50:26 <_av500_> of which I dont know anything either Oct 04 14:58:51 av500: why in the same BBB and Rev. there is a different network card? Oct 04 14:59:11 <_av500_> different? Oct 04 14:59:15 yes Oct 04 14:59:21 <_av500_> there is no netrwork card at all Oct 04 14:59:25 <_av500_> its inside the CPU Oct 04 14:59:33 the eth Oct 04 14:59:47 <_av500_> so which two cards do you see? Oct 04 15:01:09 one each board of course but ive created a backup image of the eMMC and in the second one dont work the lan, i use a hdmi cable, is the kernel dont recognise the different card Oct 04 15:01:22 sorry for my english , im italian Oct 04 15:01:44 two BBB bought from different distributors Oct 04 15:01:50 same rev Oct 04 15:02:32 <_av500_> I still dont understand your issue? Oct 04 15:02:39 <_av500_> you say you have 2 different "cards" Oct 04 15:02:41 <_av500_> which ones? Oct 04 15:02:52 _vicash_ some things are setup differently, Debian on the BBB *is* very solid Oct 04 15:03:27 one card from BBB that i bought from Conrad and the one i bought from RS Component mount a different network adapter Oct 04 15:03:39 <_av500_> so which two cards do you see? Oct 04 15:03:46 <_av500_> what exactly is different? Oct 04 15:03:56 would you see the dmesg? Oct 04 15:04:12 <_av500_> what exactly is different? Oct 04 15:04:15 <_av500_> sure Oct 04 15:04:18 <_av500_> pastebin the diff Oct 04 15:04:20 the driver to get it working is different, so i though is different model Oct 04 15:04:32 of adappter Oct 04 15:04:39 cause rev is the same Oct 04 15:04:47 <_av500_> what exactly is different? Oct 04 15:04:48 <_av500_> what exactly is different? Oct 04 15:04:48 <_av500_> what exactly is different? Doesn't seem to "just work". Is it possible? Where do I look? I have gnome disabled and have the angstrom upgraded Oct 04 20:50:35 I know it sounds silly but have you tried adding in the use of a USB hub? Oct 04 20:52:41 no N2TOH : I didn't something even dumber :) I failed to see the note that it's not plug-n-play. just repower the board and it works fine :) Oct 04 20:53:49 HA yeah I didn't know that the different power connectors made a diference in performance Oct 04 20:54:39 now i need to figure out if i can tune the console size/font for the 4.3 LCD cape Oct 04 21:05:34 does anyone know how to change the console font size for angstrom? Oct 04 21:06:15 googled various pages for linux in general, but none seem to apply for the files i'm finding in angstrom Oct 04 21:07:58 xorg or framebuffer? Oct 04 21:12:41 no clue woglinde ? how would i determine? it's a BBB running latest upgraded angstrom, with a 4.3 LCD cape Oct 04 21:13:03 i disabled gnome Oct 04 21:14:02 so its framebuffer Oct 04 21:18:25 i believe you :) (and am curious how you ascertained that… …and where i might go next to tune the font size) Oct 04 21:24:28 hello Oct 04 21:25:32 I'm updated my beagle bone A6 to the latest June software but none of the lights come up after I done the update Oct 04 21:26:04 can the video resolution be increased if the video is color reduced to monocrome? Oct 04 21:26:07 Anyone else have issues with updating their begle bone? Oct 04 21:26:45 such as? I having an issue is angstrom and missing packages Oct 04 21:27:09 gtd2800: i got mine upgraded, but only after a couple of failed attempts Oct 04 21:27:43 I was having DNS issues, a hacked patch worked around that issue Oct 04 21:29:46 mine is a BBB, so ymmv. lessons learned along the way were: the use of the --tmp-dir ~ for the opkg update;upgrade commands and setting something like 8.8.4.4 in /etc/resolve.conf since connman seems to struggle as part of the upgrade Oct 04 21:31:29 could you pastebin the actuall configs for us? Oct 04 21:31:55 travisgriggs : besides following the instructions online on just flashing the DS card with the new image, there should be any other types of steps right? Oct 04 21:34:38 i used the emmc flasher image. i run on wall power and ssh into it with an ethernet cable. i have my mac book pro set to share ethernet connection (i watched the output of console looking for something like what the bridge showed under ifconfig on my mac to know the ip address it would be at). i updated /etc/resolv.conf. then i ran opkg --tmp-dir ~ update and watched the text roll by. and then when that was done i ran opkg --tmp-dir ~ upgrade. and Oct 04 21:34:39 then watched the text roll by for an hour or so. when it looked like it was done, i rebooted Oct 04 21:37:08 opkg install will install dependencies… is that a correct assumption? Oct 04 21:40:49 I have had to run it more then once to make sure it installed things it missed the first go around Oct 04 21:42:21 that's usually only the case if its a massive update i think Oct 04 21:50:45 Should the led should light up after power up in this version of the software? only my power led comes on now, I flash it 7 times and using and brand new SD card Oct 04 21:51:22 I try to hit http://192.168.7.1/ but nothings comes up Oct 04 21:52:23 is there a place in where someone can test if my board is dead? Oct 04 22:21:44 everybody awake? Oct 04 22:32:58 I am Oct 04 22:34:24 <_vicash_> gtd2800: use a USB-TTL cable to connect to the UART pins on your Beaglebone and then view in Hyperterminal/Putty/minicom what is happening during boot. you can then debug from there.
