**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Oct 13 02:59:58 2013 Oct 13 03:49:04 on the BBB, i'm trying to update my wheezy kernel, but the install-me.sh script from http://rcn-ee.net/deb/wheezy-armhf/v3.11.0-bone5/ fails... what's up? Oct 13 03:49:34 actually, it appears to work and says to reboot, but then it will not boot! Oct 13 03:53:01 i'm growing tired of booting up the BBB-flasher image, then waiting, then trying the script a different way, then hosing the whole install, and starting over. There has to be a clear upgrade path, right? Oct 13 03:59:47 hoolio: ask RCN, it's his stuff Oct 13 04:00:17 also you might want to consider micro-sd installs instead. as those are easy to back up and restore using dd Oct 13 04:02:56 anyone here flown on WestJet Oct 13 04:03:52 nope, where you going? Oct 13 04:03:53 dm8tbr: i'd ask him but, you know, i got a new cell and lost his number :P Oct 13 04:04:13 Calgary -> Orlando Oct 13 04:06:37 dm8tbr: that is good advice on the microsd idea, and i prob need to go buy one (currently stuck with a 2GB one) Oct 13 10:14:04 hi everybody :) Oct 13 11:27:58 What kind of graphics performance can I expect from the beagleboneBlack compared to beagleboard or RasberryPi? Oct 13 11:30:00 e.g. Any issues with playing BluRay quality video? Oct 13 11:31:09 piousminion: the BBB is not a media center. it is not able to play 1080p. Oct 13 11:31:37 720 then? Oct 13 11:31:58 I don't think my projector does 1080p anyway. heh Oct 13 11:36:43 hello Oct 13 11:40:02 i don't want to ask stupid questions that probably go on and on every day, but i would like to learn how can build root file system for bbb. Question: can some one point me to good resources where i can find all details on how to and if any options why should i chose one over another? Oct 13 11:40:11 piousminion: probably not, because its all software decoding. like i said, the BBB is _NOT_ a media machine Oct 13 11:40:42 zalletn: http://downloads.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beaglebone/ Oct 13 11:41:03 zalletn: scroll down there - and why: because its the most actively supported & stadard system. Oct 13 11:41:56 thank you :) Oct 13 13:12:41 Hey. Oct 13 14:30:05 Hi all, I want to connect sensor to BBB to analog input pin, but i did not find mapped file in /sys/devices/platform/tsc/ain file Oct 13 14:30:22 Please suggest how can i get tsc folder Oct 13 14:37:23 tsc? that sounds like TouchScreenController? AFAIU the BBB doesn't have one Oct 13 14:37:51 refer to the SRM for options how to interface things to the board Oct 13 14:43:05 in one of BBB startup video in /sys/platform/devices/tsc folder contains analog input files Oct 13 14:44:07 He connected sensor input to analog input pins and read that data from /sys/platform/devices/tsc/ana1 file Oct 13 14:44:36 I did not find that file can any one help out Oct 13 14:45:14 I want connect LDR to analog input pin of GPIO header of BBB analog input Oct 13 14:45:28 what is that correcping file Oct 13 15:02:56 I want to access BBB P9.39 pin ANI please tell which file i need to refer in /sys/devices/platform/? Oct 13 15:03:02 folder Oct 13 15:03:19 to access that gpio line Oct 13 15:13:55 hi Oct 13 15:15:04 "AM335x USB" while flashing new image through SD card, there is no drivers installed on my windows machine for this device... any tips? Oct 13 15:15:54 you don't need to access the device while flashing Oct 13 15:15:59 just lean back and wait Oct 13 15:16:33 But How do i confrm that it is really flashing? Oct 13 15:17:14 as the device manager shows device "AM335x USB" device attached and detached in loop Oct 13 15:17:55 the flashing instructions contain details Oct 13 15:18:51 and if this keeps popping up, then you might have written the image wrongly to the card. Oct 13 15:19:26 I see Oct 13 15:19:32 will double check that... Oct 13 15:19:33 In BBB i want to use P9.28 ANA (analog input )pin to connect LDR. Please tell what is that file located in /sys/devices/platform Oct 13 15:19:36 thanks Oct 13 15:20:26 I want to read that input by reading from /sys/devices/platform/ ? Oct 13 15:20:43 which file i have to read in BBB Oct 13 15:23:14 raku: you're repeating yourself. that won't help you. Oct 13 15:23:29 raku: did check if that pin is even muxed? Oct 13 15:25:05 you'd think that Cisco is able to hire more skilled engineers... Oct 13 15:29:38 I want to connect LDR to P9.28 Analog input pin, to read that input which file i need to read in BBB which file in /sys/devices/platform Oct 13 15:29:59 i did not find any related folder for this GPIO Oct 13 15:30:04 i am blocking for this issue Oct 13 15:30:12 please help some one Oct 13 15:31:15 i have seen in one video about this how to read from analog input he used file /sys/devices/platforn/tsc/ana1 Oct 13 15:31:28 but i did not find any such folder in my BB Oct 13 15:32:01 do i need to boot with any specific image Oct 13 15:45:51 any possibilty to start bbb without display for Android? Oct 13 15:52:20 15:23:29< dm8tbr> raku: did check if that pin is even muxed? Oct 13 15:53:00 mayur: what are you planning to do with an android device without display? Oct 13 15:59:53 the question is what is android on bbb anyuseful Oct 13 15:59:58 at all Oct 13 16:01:03 but... but... it's *Android* Oct 13 16:05:16 maynee you can make calls Oct 13 16:05:20 maybe Oct 13 17:02:17 any progress on SGX? Oct 13 17:02:41 *SGX driver for BBB Oct 13 17:13:01 Isn't there one? Oct 13 17:25:26 Ariadeno: all work on sgx driver for bbb is at a halt currently Oct 13 17:27:30 What are the implications? Oct 13 17:28:36 <_av500_> no sgx driver? Oct 13 17:29:04 <_av500_> is what is implied Oct 13 17:29:11 I assume graphics works, no? :) Oct 13 17:29:51 So what features are missing in practice? Oct 13 17:34:06 <_av500_> 3d acceleration Oct 13 17:40:59 Odd. Oct 13 18:03:37 <_av500_> even Oct 13 18:09:13 hi there! Oct 13 18:09:24 I'm trying to decompress that latest BBB eMMC flasher dated 2013-06-20, but the unxz failed with "unexpected end of input"....anyone else have this issue? Oct 13 18:11:15 <_av500_> yes Oct 13 18:11:16 <_av500_> had the same Oct 13 18:13:11 any chance to get accelerated 2d / xv / fs video on the beaglebone black? Oct 13 18:17:03 <_av500_> anything you can do in SW Oct 13 18:17:09 <_av500_> no sgx for now Oct 13 18:17:12 <_av500_> 19:25 < prpplague > Ariadeno: all work on sgx driver for bbb is at a halt currently Oct 13 18:17:23 <_av500_> BBB is not a video machine Oct 13 18:27:40 sad to hear since i really like the black. problem is i wanna use it as a video player on our tv. Oct 13 18:29:34 hameliner_ no chance Oct 13 18:29:48 or it will work but not as nice as you want Oct 13 18:32:48 the only thing that stops me is that video playback on the fbdev is shitty / no fullscreen video etc. Oct 13 18:33:34 so there isnt even a proprietary driver from powervr nor ti? Oct 13 18:34:56 hameliner exactly now sgx driver for bbb Oct 13 18:35:44 ok now or "no" ;-)? Oct 13 18:37:00 I meant no Oct 13 18:39:03 ok thx for yourcanswer. will it come in near future or rather unlikely? Oct 13 19:10:17 hi how are you Oct 13 19:15:57 Hello! Oct 13 19:21:55 Hello, I connected a MOSFET to my beaglebone black using this Arduino tutorial I found here: http://bildr.org/2012/03/rfp30n06le-arduino/. I am using a IRF510 N-Channel Mosfet with 5V 1A as my power source & a green LED with 3.2 FV & ~20 Ohms of resistance. When I hook this circuit directly up to power, the LED shines very bright. However, when I use the GPIO pin to control the gate (after Oct 13 19:21:55 reconfiguring circuit) it is very dim and flickers. Does anyone have any ideas? Your input is greatly appreciated! Oct 13 19:23:53 beaglebone =3v, arduino = 5v Oct 13 19:33:00 <_av500_> a mosfet to control a LED? Oct 13 19:34:29 beagelbone uses 3v, you dont need a mosfet. Oct 13 19:34:36 plug directly into the GPIO Oct 13 19:35:08 also, why the hell are you trying to drive a LED with a mosfet?! Oct 13 19:36:22 high power LED! Oct 13 19:36:47 <_av500_> flufmnstr: nom the BBB GPIOs cannot drive 20mA Oct 13 19:36:51 <_av500_> but a simple transistor is enough Oct 13 19:37:22 <_av500_> and looking at the schematics one sees how it's done Oct 13 19:56:16 Ya, the GPIO's cannot provide the 100ma I need to drive one LED & I actually want 6 of them Oct 13 19:56:30 so I will need 600mA total... Oct 13 19:56:38 <_av500_> ok Oct 13 19:56:54 <_av500_> I missread 20Ohms for 20mA Oct 13 19:57:06 flak lighting... Oct 13 19:57:18 I was thinking the GPIO might not be supplying enough current to the mosfet Oct 13 19:57:26 but it's rated for 250microamps Oct 13 19:57:27 <_av500_> this day and age, people like it bright Oct 13 19:58:11 the mosfet seems to be doing it's job...it responds to my HIGH & LOW commands Oct 13 19:58:17 just not enough current? Oct 13 19:58:18 <_av500_> https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/beagleboard/LkBmKBeffDw Oct 13 19:58:27 <_av500_> it has all happened before Oct 13 19:58:32 <_av500_> and it will all happen again Oct 13 19:58:38 nothing new under the sun! Oct 13 19:58:42 <_av500_> https://www.google.com/search?q=beaglebone+mosfet Oct 13 19:58:49 <_av500_> and Google knows about it Oct 13 19:59:32 lol Oct 13 19:59:59 I thought BB provided 3.3V in GPIOS? Oct 13 20:00:23 thank you so much, btw =) Oct 13 20:00:35 i have bought two different powered usb hubs, and neither works with my beaglebone black. would a newer kernel fix this? Oct 13 20:01:19 or could it be a udev rules thing? Oct 13 20:02:29 hoolio: dmesg pastebin please Oct 13 20:03:57 ok i will provide dmesg for both the bbb, and also a machine in which it was properly recognized (with the correct vendor/product ids) Oct 13 20:10:18 dm8tbr: well, there is no dmesg output. none! Oct 13 20:10:39 dm8tbr: but when it is plugged into a PC it gives me this: "usb 1-2: New USB device found, idVendor=2109, idProduct=3431" Oct 13 20:11:01 hoolio: usb1.1 or usb2? Oct 13 20:11:11 usb 2.0 Oct 13 20:11:53 mh, no idea then Oct 13 20:12:10 looks like missing driver Oct 13 20:12:34 i am wondering if there are udev rules missing for this particular device? even so, wouldn't it announce an unidentified usb device? Oct 13 20:14:49 <_av500_> it would Oct 13 20:15:05 <_av500_> looks more like your USB is not working at all Oct 13 20:15:10 <_av500_> do other usb devices work? Oct 13 20:15:13 <_av500_> usb stick? Oct 13 20:15:24 oh okay Oct 13 20:16:55 _av500_: yes, usb items connected directly to the BBB work fine. the hub, though, fails to get recognized Oct 13 20:17:35 <_av500_> strange Oct 13 20:17:59 dead hub? Oct 13 20:18:11 _av500_: when i plug this same device into a PC, it says it uses module ehci_hcd, and then proceeds to be recognized and works fine Oct 13 20:19:13 On BBB, "find / -name *ehci*" yields nothing... but wouldn't this part already be compiled into the kernel, not as a module? Oct 13 20:20:03 <_av500_> no ehci on BBB Oct 13 20:20:12 <_av500_> as you have owrking usb, its still strange Oct 13 20:20:18 <_av500_> no driver needed Oct 13 20:20:21 <_av500_> hub driver is there Oct 13 20:21:40 yes, this is very strange. does anyone here use a powered usb hub successfully? Oct 13 20:22:15 both of the models i have tried are completely unrecognized. Oct 13 20:27:04 BBB dmesg says "hub_suspend" immediately after initializing its usb port. i wonder if this causes problems for the hub to be recognized/powered up when connected. Oct 13 20:44:14 kinda shocked that no one else uses a hub with their bbb. but then, that's kind of my luck! Oct 13 20:46:45 I use a hub with my bbb Oct 13 21:09:04 hoolio: hubs have the problem that they break things in mysterious ways Oct 13 21:09:11 hoolio: some work and some dont Oct 13 21:09:17 hoolio: if in doubt, use none Oct 13 21:46:25 rcn-ee: the legend. my palms grow sweaty as i contemplate how to ask this question. i have installed the BBB wheezy flasher image successfully, and was hoping to try a more recent kernel. however, the install-me.sh script in /deb/wheezy-armhf/v3.11.0-bone5 does not seem to work for me. it fails to boot! am i doing something crazy? Oct 13 21:49:44 3.11 has been abandoned use v3.12-rc4 Oct 13 21:50:37 and if it's the armhf.com image, patches welcome to fix "the script" https://github.com/rcn-ee/farm/blob/master/install-me-template.sh Oct 13 21:51:06 anyone able to get 3.11 or 3.12 to run at max speed on a bbb? Oct 13 21:51:10 excellent. thank you for all your amazing work! Oct 13 21:51:44 i'm hoping that a newer kernel will help either of my powered usb hubs to get recognized :( Oct 13 21:52:00 /proc/cpuinfo gives no speed Oct 13 21:52:15 so its hard to tell what its running Oct 13 21:52:39 http://26-26-54.hardwarebug.org/9 Oct 13 21:53:05 mru: what is that? Oct 13 22:00:57 * woglinde wonders why rcn is a legend Oct 13 22:01:17 * woglinde made openjdk working on uclibc, nobody called legend Oct 13 22:01:24 +me Oct 13 22:01:28 anyway Oct 13 22:01:30 good nite Oct 14 01:39:14 I'm trying to get a serial connection to my BBB, on mac osx 10.8.4. Info.plist file is patched, not getting a tty.usbserial in /dev/. Any idea what's going on here? Oct 14 01:40:55 I installed the FTDI driver that came with the BBB Oct 14 01:55:06 When i connect a powered hub to my BBB, I just get "usb 2-1: device descriptor read/all, error -71" endlessly logged Oct 14 02:06:00 a usb 3.0 hub which works under ehci_hcd with a 3.2 kernel (on my PC) refuses to work under musb-hdrc with a 3.12 kernel (on my BBB) **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Oct 14 02:59:58 2013
