**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed Apr 30 02:59:59 2014 Apr 30 03:26:55 anyone tried using the deb falsher from 4/23? Apr 30 03:29:33 got me four flashing solid lights Apr 30 03:29:35 nfc what thats about Apr 30 04:08:09 the hellll Apr 30 04:28:10 who wants some pie. Apr 30 04:32:04 ok so i've got this BBB and so far the experience was sub par... after downloading the latest Debian eMMC flasher i could not get the BBB to boot without an SD card and now after trying to add a gw while running it off sd card, it crashed and won't connect at all. D2 led blinking twice every second and D4 briefly after it... what am i doing wrong? Apr 30 04:34:21 * tbr hasn't had problems with his. Apr 30 04:34:54 you're not going into details, but it sounds like you messed up your network config Apr 30 04:35:24 which means that the board probably didn't "crash", but simply lost network due to an invalid config Apr 30 04:35:35 try connecting to it over the virtual serial port it should be exposing Apr 30 04:36:01 i had it connected all the time via USB, by "not connecting" i mean not connecting via the usb port at all like it did before Apr 30 04:36:34 wow 4/23 flasher is so broken Apr 30 04:36:45 Kriminel: the 4/23 flasher is broken Apr 30 04:36:51 Kriminel: but the image should be ok Apr 30 04:37:05 ok thats what i'm using Apr 30 04:37:08 http://beagleboard.org/latest-images Apr 30 04:37:16 mind recommending a different debian image? Apr 30 04:37:19 yeah just use the sdcard image Apr 30 04:37:20 run off sd Apr 30 04:37:25 Hello! I want to use the GPIO and UART from my BBB. But I found different descriptions about the PinOut Apr 30 04:38:13 P8/Pin12 = GPIO1_12 .... but Pin 4 (GPIO1_7) seems not working Apr 30 04:38:13 fohnbit: might be because of pin muxing or BBB vs BBW differences Apr 30 04:38:43 fohnbit: make sure your pins are muxed before you use them Apr 30 04:39:08 fohnbit: also make sure to stay within specs and never exceed voltage on input or current draw Apr 30 04:39:23 tbr: what did you mean with muxed? Apr 30 04:39:42 I enable with "echo 44 > /sys/class/gpio/export" Apr 30 04:40:05 then: cat /sys/class/gpio/gpio67/value Apr 30 04:40:13 nyt- thanks will do, now i'm trying to reimage the sd and try again Apr 30 04:40:26 fohnbit: please read the SRM Apr 30 04:40:50 tbr: Ok, but last question: What means SRM? Apr 30 04:41:19 system reference manual Apr 30 04:42:26 well my w8 system wont see the SD card anymore is there anything special to get it to mount with the image on it? Apr 30 04:44:38 tbr: OK, thanks. google found it. Did you mean I have to set one of the 8 mux mode? (0-7) Apr 30 04:45:49 fohnbit: I'm not a good resource on muxing, this is now your exercise to get this figured out Apr 30 05:05:48 I read that the new kernel doesn use mux anymore Apr 30 05:07:32 Hi.. I was trying to access BBB UART1 for XBee communication.. I added the device tree file and inserted the XBee into respective pins..but im not getting any new serial device listed under /dev as ttyOx Apr 30 05:07:49 can anyone pls help me Apr 30 05:08:25 fohnbit: it uses DT for muxing AFAIU Apr 30 05:08:25 I have connected the XBee to 24 and 26 of P9 header Apr 30 05:15:53 so apparently my 32gb sandisk sd card was damaged and randomly unmounting while being read Apr 30 05:17:25 nyt- i've switched to a 2gb older sd card and giving the eMMC flasher another try Apr 30 05:20:37 i am jealous. i want a bbb Apr 30 05:22:36 yea i was too excited to get it i didnt mind paying over double its retail price Apr 30 05:29:52 beagle13, did you ever get connected to the internet? Apr 30 05:31:28 nyt- flashing succeeded in little over 16 minutes :) my bbb booted from the emmc with the latest debian image Apr 30 05:32:10 thanks for your time nyt- and tbr :-) next comes a wall of questions about device tree (i want to use this bbb with as many gpio ports as possible for a home automation project involving relays) Apr 30 05:33:56 monoxide_13: yes .. Apr 30 05:35:13 beagle13, what ended up being the problem? Apr 30 05:35:18 monoxide_13: wifi and ethernet issue is solved. I was trying to connect to a very weak network Apr 30 05:35:41 monoxide_13: also i gave static ip Apr 30 05:37:12 monoxide_13: one more thing is i tried with "ifconfig" that also worked Apr 30 05:44:10 Kriminel: interesting, since flasher just failed twice for me Apr 30 05:44:11 oh well Apr 30 05:44:14 hm Apr 30 05:44:20 looks like bonescript compiles dts on the file Apr 30 05:44:37 Kriminel: it shouldn't be that hard. Just make sure not to collide with things like eMMC and HDMI Apr 30 06:02:51 what is the command to port ubuntu image to beaglebone black???? Apr 30 06:03:38 you don't port an operating system with one command Apr 30 06:03:56 you are probably thinking of _installing_ it, which still takes a couple commands Apr 30 06:06:22 no i am talking about the images which has direct shell script file to port os in SD card Apr 30 06:06:45 to run this .sh file i need a command Apr 30 06:06:59 vikas: ./.sh ? Apr 30 06:10:10 @varad i know how to run .sh file but i need that file should run in sd card Apr 30 06:11:20 vikas you're trying to burn a bbb image on an sdcard on linux? this may help: http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardDebian#eMMC:_BeagleBone_Black Apr 30 06:11:45 sudo dd if=./BBB-eMMC-flasher-debian-7.4-2014-04-18-2gb.img of=/dev/sdX Apr 30 06:39:53 hello hello Apr 30 06:40:10 is there anybody out there Apr 30 06:40:35 just nod if you can hear me Apr 30 06:42:10 will the real slim shady please stand up? please stand up? please stand up? Apr 30 06:45:51 uh Apr 30 07:10:58 Kriminel i have had mine preordered forever. i would cancel it but I already bought a case. i already CNCd one in fact Apr 30 07:34:59 are BBB rev C boards out? Apr 30 08:07:59 shawnbon206 does your case have buttons as well? did you cnced it using some plans? Apr 30 08:08:28 my case is more like an elaborate bumper Apr 30 08:08:51 its open enough i can probably reach the buttons Apr 30 08:09:03 i see Apr 30 08:09:08 with pinky fingers Apr 30 08:09:12 yeah for my project i'll have to do something similar i think Apr 30 08:09:19 actually my fingers wont fit Apr 30 08:09:21 in fact i dont really need access to more buttons than reset Apr 30 08:09:23 chop sticks Apr 30 08:09:27 hehee Apr 30 08:09:44 or i will enlist my girlfriends help Apr 30 08:09:45 i'll have to stash 4 8relay boards in the case too Apr 30 08:10:22 working on a home automation system for lighting and 1/2 outlets with soft and hard buttons for toggling them Apr 30 08:10:40 question... do the buttons need to be held ever? Apr 30 08:10:48 i wonder if i could use set screws Apr 30 08:10:51 started with a RPI but that proved to be inadequate because of the limited gpio number Apr 30 08:11:02 you have to hold down only during reflash Apr 30 08:11:06 the boot button Apr 30 08:11:11 oh Apr 30 08:11:21 for how long Apr 30 08:11:22 reset is instant, power is soft Apr 30 08:11:28 ~3-4 seconds Apr 30 08:11:34 oh. Apr 30 08:11:51 you hold it and apply power with an sd card on to boot from it and refrlash the eMMC Apr 30 08:12:19 mmhmm Apr 30 08:13:24 trying to think how to design the buttons Apr 30 08:14:04 print a "cross" shaped one Apr 30 08:14:05 without them rattling Apr 30 08:14:34 it will be held in place by pressure and the button is springy enough to keep it depressed Apr 30 08:16:47 cross shaped ? i cant find on google images Apr 30 08:17:16 i think i remember seeing ones like that but i need a refresher Apr 30 08:18:05 ill draw one, but when i'm back Apr 30 08:18:11 have to run for abt an hour, brb Apr 30 09:42:34 hey hello everyone Apr 30 09:43:19 i am new to this community, can anyone guide me how to run android kernel on beagleboard-xM Apr 30 09:44:21 on XM? Apr 30 09:44:27 there is rowboat Apr 30 09:44:35 but I think they only support BBB now Apr 30 09:44:51 http://code.google.com/p/rowboat/ Apr 30 09:44:55 yes Apr 30 09:45:21 http://code.google.com/p/rowboat/downloads/list Apr 30 09:45:29 there are builds for DM37xx EVM Apr 30 09:45:34 that could be adapted to XM Apr 30 09:45:43 but I think its a waste of time Apr 30 09:45:49 hmmm Apr 30 09:47:31 the AOSP provides support for Panda. it does not provide support for beagle board/ why is that? Apr 30 09:48:11 because google used panda to develop android Apr 30 09:48:29 right Apr 30 09:48:34 and Panda doesn't bark at night Apr 30 09:48:43 lol Apr 30 09:48:56 * LetoThe2nd sings "Bark at the moon!" Apr 30 10:26:09 so halt "bricked" my bbb Apr 30 10:26:24 define bricked Apr 30 10:26:36 reflashing it now, it wouldnt respond to the power button after applying power via usb. Apr 30 10:26:41 all leds except "power" are off Apr 30 10:27:31 i did a reflash a few hours ago using the latest debian distro and all i did now is type "halt" and unplug it Apr 30 10:29:30 brick is if NOTHING can fix it Apr 30 10:30:33 ok my bad then, how would you define this - please excuse my ignorance- i'm new to this Apr 30 10:36:38 shawnbon206 this is what i was talking about: http://s3.postimg.org/cqufjtc1v/button.png i hope it makes sense Apr 30 10:37:04 the purple drawing is an o-ring below the button to keep it in place when you remove the board Apr 30 10:37:15 this can easily be printed for your bbb case Apr 30 10:38:44 that ugly drawing i made there represents a cross section of the pressed button, you need to leave room for it to go back up Apr 30 17:47:12 hi Apr 30 17:47:34 did anybody test beaglebone black with OpenWrt? Apr 30 18:03:41 where can I check list of anstorm packages that are possible to install... is there some repo with a list? Apr 30 18:12:28 hi guys i bought a 3.2 inch tft lcd with touchscreen and sd card that I want to use with my beaglebone black. It uses the ssd1289 driver that is in the kernel. Has anybody used this screen with their beaglebone black and the 3.8+ kenel? http://www.ebay.com/itm/251502638356?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 <-- that is the screen i purchased. Apr 30 18:14:39 I haven't had any success with my writing own device tree overlay and have been trying for a week now to get pins exported so I could control a dc motor with a hbridge module. So i figured I would try something else. I have already disabled the hdmi output. I just need to know how to enable pins properly in dts. Is there a skeleton dts that anyone recommends that could get me going. Apr 30 20:47:05 hm, do I really need i386 packages on x86_64 bit to crosscompile an ARM kernel on ubuntu? Apr 30 20:53:06 depends if your toolchain needs them ;p Apr 30 20:54:07 apparently it does, following this step: http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#Building_the_Kernel Apr 30 20:55:05 yeah last toolchain I used needed them .. now if I'd built my own toolchain using gentoo ....... Apr 30 20:55:53 yes, that would be right if you're using Rob Nelson's scripts .. he uses the Linaro toolchain which doesn't have a 64-bit edition Apr 30 20:56:46 my goal is to replace angstrom linux with arch, but I don't have a micro-sd card and micro-hdmi adapter yet so I want to crosscompile a newer kernel first Apr 30 20:57:05 preferrably 3.14.2 Apr 30 20:57:12 yikes ok good luck Apr 30 20:57:17 debian is ok btw :P Apr 30 20:57:20 if old Apr 30 20:57:36 heh Apr 30 20:57:41 is it so 'hard'? Apr 30 20:57:54 its not hard if you kow what you're doing Apr 30 20:57:56 ;P Apr 30 20:58:11 I mean, I have arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc installed and ARMv7 support now is tier 1/in mainline Apr 30 20:58:19 I suppose they haven't got downloadable u-boot and kernel .. well oops... spoke too soon :p Apr 30 20:58:57 http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/ti/beaglebone Apr 30 21:01:11 yeah Apr 30 21:02:21 I want to use its EHCI host for hardware debugging, http://www.coreboot.org/EHCI_Gadget_Debug Apr 30 21:07:17 idwer: ? Apr 30 21:08:56 kmalkki: I thought you might find this channel interesting Apr 30 21:09:46 ah. I thought you had some urgent interesting discussion going on here Apr 30 21:11:43 not yet. haven't found a way to crosscompile kernel 3.14.2 for armv7 Apr 30 21:13:41 ok.. my last build were on 3.13.0-rc5 Apr 30 21:15:27 I wouldn't recommend the BBB for usb ... the driver is known to be a bit troublesome .. Apr 30 21:16:19 USB host or device troubles? Apr 30 21:17:41 if you ask me, based on linux-usb traffic, pretty much every gadget has some trouble or at least constant flux of change Apr 30 21:18:32 host Apr 30 21:18:50 gadget isn't too bad .. its the host port that used to be notorious for not working Apr 30 21:34:41 my bbb will not boot at all. I only have the blue power led lit. I have tried to reset the unit with the reset button. Tried to boot with and without the microsd. Apr 30 21:34:54 could I have burned out something in the bbb Apr 30 21:35:09 tried a bootable uSD? Apr 30 21:35:24 yes only the blue power led will light. Apr 30 21:36:11 remove power Apr 30 21:36:21 insert uSD, hold down user button, apply power Apr 30 21:36:24 watch serial console. Apr 30 21:36:28 see if anything happens there Apr 30 21:36:46 tried that and only the blue power lights Apr 30 21:40:24 Usb host not that reliable eh? Many problem talking to a usb flash or disk drive? Apr 30 21:40:55 alright.. CONFIG_USB_G_DBGP=m, CONFIG_USB_G_DBGP_SERIAL=y and CONFIG_USB_OTG is not set Apr 30 21:49:04 Mike_PA .. suggest you start the RMA process on the beagle site Apr 30 21:49:09 unable to access the BBB at all. either telnet/desktop/serial port Apr 30 21:49:12 idwer: and still the two patches from coreboot site Apr 30 21:49:13 ok will start the rma Apr 30 21:49:18 thanks Apr 30 21:49:37 if absolutely none of the other LEDS ever light ... I think its stewed Apr 30 21:49:56 kmalkki: right Apr 30 21:50:19 I see there's a nice RED warning on the homepage that says you should NEVER apply any voltage to ANY io pin, without the beagle powered up properly Apr 30 21:50:37 because otherwise it does fry the AM3359 chip :( Apr 30 21:51:16 afk a few Apr 30 22:07:08 Hi Guys, I'm looking for some help. I'm working on a robotic project with my beaglebone black, and my problem is with which distro use. I need to have WIFI dongle, PWM working and python and pygame installed. I tried the latest ubuntu image (04/18/14) and the newest debian (04/23/14) and i'm having a hard time to get wifi dongles working reliable (tried using TP-LINK TL-WN823N, Edimax EW-7811Un and D-Link DWA-121). Apr 30 22:07:53 I guess it's because both are using the same v3.8.13 kernel. If I try to upgrade to the 3.13 I can't get PWM to work. I did not try the angstrom distro because i read that peaple have a lot of problems to make pyton and pygames to work properly. Does anyone have a suggestion? Apr 30 22:13:33 wow .. not asking for much eh?! lol .. heh Apr 30 22:13:49 are you using a powered usb hub to run the wifi? Apr 30 22:14:33 might want to try a slightly older g based wifi Apr 30 22:16:41 hahaha... i know! I'm using powered usb to run wifi.... thanks for the suggestion thurgood... Apr 30 22:17:24 unless you completely trust your CM, I'd either plan on many trips to the factory or limiting mfg to some place you can easily visit Apr 30 22:17:29 bah Apr 30 22:17:55 Is anybody running OpenWrt on their Beagleboards? Apr 30 22:18:07 running What?? Apr 30 22:18:19 Why? Apr 30 22:18:55 VitorHenriique .. modern g/n/a wifi chipsets don't play very nice on the BBB Apr 30 22:19:32 do you guys have a link to one dongle that is know to work? Apr 30 22:20:01 there's a list on the beagle website or wiki iirc Apr 30 22:21:25 yeah, i saw that one, bought the D-Link DWA-121 that it is on that list Apr 30 22:24:14 veremit even using the dwa-121 the connection is poor, loosing packages =/ Apr 30 22:26:13 kmalkki: patched the tree.. now compiling Apr 30 22:37:35 www.openwrt.org - it is linux for embedded systems Apr 30 22:37:43 you haven't heard of OpenWrt?!? Apr 30 22:39:00 openwrt? why won't you look into pfsense Apr 30 22:50:27 openwrt + fpsense Apr 30 22:50:31 ^^^ Apr 30 22:50:35 ^^^ Apr 30 22:51:01 openwrt goes between your pfsense box and your pc's and servers Apr 30 22:51:21 pfsense goes between your openwrt and your ISP's modem Apr 30 22:56:25 shawnbon206: what are you talking about? Apr 30 22:57:11 OpenWrt is linux distribution I would like to know it anybody has been using on BeagleBone devices and how it works for them... Apr 30 22:59:04 valentt: google it Apr 30 23:00:55 you can't google for people's experience, that is why I'm on this IRC channel to talk with people directly Apr 30 23:02:02 if nobody has used openwrt that is a bad sign and I'll probably look elsewhere for some other board, maybe OLinuXino or Odroid Apr 30 23:03:56 openwrt hasn't been ported to a lot of "new" devices .. I guess they just haven't seen a need May 01 00:51:37 hrm May 01 00:54:23 http://wiki.beyondlogic.org/index.php/BeagleBoneBlack_Building_Kernel#Compiling_the_BeagleBone_Black_Kernel_2 <-- the third line with CROSS_COMPILE returns 'no rule to make target' May 01 00:54:49 but arch/arm/boot/dts/am335x-boneblack.dtb[bs] exist May 01 00:57:08 irc logs show that it's an ubuntu quirk? see http://mer.bfst.de/logs/%23beagle/%23beagle.2013-11-07.log.html May 01 01:00:12 it would make sense to compile the dts (which was already compiled?) and therefore instead pass uImage-dts.am335x-boneblack May 01 01:21:34 TooLmaN: hey May 01 01:21:51 TooLmaN: did you ever solve this problem? make: *** No rule to make target `uImage-dtb.am335x-boneblack'.
