**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed May 14 03:00:00 2014 May 14 03:07:05 Nite. May 14 05:33:53 hello i want to install gentoo for BeagleBoard xm Could you Help Me'? May 14 05:35:37 * jkridner wonders if https://www.slashorg.net/51-Getting-started.html is still valid May 14 05:39:36 http://beagleboard.org/project/?search=gentoo only has BeagleBone May 14 05:58:50 jkridner: nice new graphics for the headers =] May 14 05:59:17 thanks. they fix a typo on some of the pins May 14 05:59:30 hopefully they are clearer and easier to read. May 14 05:59:34 added a legend as well. May 14 05:59:48 I go back to these drawings all the time. May 14 06:00:01 there are some more comprehensive tables from others, but these suit my needs. May 14 06:00:15 yea May 14 06:00:28 yeah i saw, i reported the typo haha May 14 06:00:36 i went through every gpio pin writing my lib to test functionality May 14 07:32:18 I have FTDI cable , connected to PC and board. I can see mounted ttyUSB0 May 14 07:32:27 then I am starting minicom -s May 14 07:32:48 and setting 115200 8N1 with no HW control May 14 07:33:01 still I dont logs on minicom termial May 14 07:33:04 how to change a splash screen on debian wheezy May 14 07:33:10 please May 14 07:33:22 is anything else I need to do to get logs on minicom May 14 07:33:40 i don't know May 14 07:34:09 how to change a splash screen on debian wheezy pls May 14 07:43:15 boom use google May 14 08:23:23 hi May 14 08:53:23 Hi All, I have connected FTDI cable to BBB. on minicom I can see garbage characters. Can any one faced same issue May 14 08:53:44 you probably dont' have the right port speed. May 14 08:55:10 Baud 115,200 Bits 8 Parity N Stop Bits 1 Handshake None May 14 08:55:19 any suggestion on how much it should be ? May 14 08:57:16 depends on how the BBB is configured May 14 08:57:57 It has release version of Angstrom, not done any specific changes. May 14 08:57:59 i don't found on google for change a splash screen on debian wheezy May 14 08:58:20 i found on android but not on deian wheezy May 14 09:02:57 how to change a splash screen on debian wheezy May 14 09:08:50 : You mean dev-os (for desktop to cross-compiling stuff and shift to bbb), or you mean target-os on bbb, where your driver is running? May 14 09:11:38 : I am beginning this bbb stuff right now, too - and my choise is linux for both. dev-os is ubuntu (maybe gentoo later), target-os will be 1st angström and when I need hard realtime stuff, I *think* I will switch to xenomai patch on gentoo for my bbb. May 14 11:28:10 I built the 3.14.3 kernel for my beaglebone white (A5), it boots fine but USB doesn't work (e.g. USB stick). I tried external 5V power but no difference. u-boot van read USB sticks, so my board/stick are ok. May 14 11:29:03 Do I lack something in omap2plus_defconfig? May 14 11:38:11 the same stick works if you boot one of the prebuilt kernels? May 14 12:00:12 f11f12 I heard there are a lot of problems with usb on upstream May 14 12:27:53 Hi All, May 14 12:28:22 I am trying to make mmc driver as module, any suggestion which CONFIG I need to make as module out of below May 14 12:28:24 CONFIG_MMC=y May 14 12:28:24 CONFIG_MMC_DEBUG=y May 14 12:28:24 CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME=y May 14 12:28:24 # CONFIG_MMC_CLKGATE is not set May 14 12:28:24 # May 14 12:28:24 # MMC/SD/SDIO Card Drivers May 14 12:28:26 # May 14 12:28:28 CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK=y May 14 12:28:32 CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK_MINORS=8 May 14 12:28:34 CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK_BOUNCE=y May 14 12:31:14 sachin: you will not be able to boot with the mmc driver as module unless your bootloader supports initrd May 14 12:31:57 I have angstrom OS, and I think bootloader is uboot May 14 12:32:19 will it be possible with that. Still its not possible. May 14 12:33:16 Thanks for giving such helpful info, now I will not try. May 14 12:37:20 @KotH, One more help. Today I brought FTDI USB to serial cable. I have proper Baud 115,200 Bits 8 Parity N Stop Bits 1 Handshake None... On minicom I am just getting garbage character. I have tried with different baud rate. May 14 12:37:29 any help what could be reason May 14 12:42:22 what does the SRM say about baud rate? May 14 12:43:24 Sorry not understood about SRM May 14 12:43:58 connection as per suggested on http://falstaff.agner.ch/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/beaglebone-black.jpg May 14 13:01:13 hello May 14 13:01:43 how can i install a keyboard language for beaglebone ?? May 14 13:03:28 hello May 14 13:04:42 anyone alive ? May 14 13:05:55 tbr: stick works and board works, but not the 3.14 kernel. May 14 13:07:30 tbr: I used this combination with an older (non dtb) kernel for while as 24/7 webserver May 14 13:10:37 how to install out source's tools, such ocr-engine (tesseract) ? similar to apt-get ? couldnt understand opkg May 14 13:15:24 f11f12: mkay, might want to check which config angstrom uses. they should be on some very recent kernel too May 14 13:26:45 tbr: I'm not an oe user, is there a simple way to checkout only the kernel from the angstrom/yocto project? May 14 13:28:31 hello , how can i install tesseract ocr-engine on my beaglebone ? May 14 13:28:54 f11f12: you will ned to build a bunch of tools and such just to get the kernel in if you use oe May 14 13:29:39 thurgood: that's what I'd like to avoid. May 14 13:31:20 must_know: did you check the repo to make sure it's there for starters? May 14 13:31:32 any idea how to install , tesseract , ocr-engine , on my beaglebone black , am using angstrom os. May 14 13:31:51 thurgood , am new to beaglebone :( May 14 13:33:35 cant find any in /var/lib/opkg/lists/base May 14 13:34:21 must_know: use opkg list |grep ocr May 14 13:34:32 did , nothing May 14 13:34:41 you can change the ocr to anything you want to search on May 14 13:35:04 did you run opkg update yet? May 14 13:35:06 thats why am trying to install an outsource tools May 14 13:35:09 yep May 14 13:35:21 outsource? May 14 13:35:52 yes, is like adding the repo , into opkg , but as new to arm , i dont want to damage anything May 14 13:37:02 f11f12: the config should be somewhere in git though May 14 13:38:12 if it's not too complicated of a make, I would suggest cross compilation May 14 13:39:14 here is the problem , am poor at english , meanining, i dont know what do you mean vy cross-compilation , u mean make/gcc the source ? May 14 13:40:09 cross compiling is simply compiling on one machine to run on a different type of system May 14 13:40:46 such as compiling on your desktop to run on the beagle board/bone in your case May 14 13:41:02 didnt get that.. sorry May 14 13:41:34 you mean add a middleware , to using from beaglebone ? May 14 13:42:40 no, it will run natively on the beaglebone, but you can build it on a faster machine May 14 13:43:21 ok.. compiling it on ubuntu for example, and save the file , and move it to beaglebone ? May 14 13:43:50 yes May 14 13:44:12 will it work in angestorm ? May 14 13:45:09 never tried it, but if you can compile it it should run as long as you have enough resources (ie ram, cpu power, etc) on the beaglebone May 14 13:45:36 hmmm.. May 14 13:45:52 unless they have assembly in there for a specific architecture May 14 13:46:01 i even cant install an irc client/whois tools on beaglebone , weird May 14 13:46:33 i dont know if ubuntu has the same file compilations similar to angestorm May 14 13:46:39 but will try that May 14 13:47:15 you will need to get a cross platform compiler May 14 13:48:11 I tend to us open embedded, although it is a bit bloated, you might find something with less overheard from codesourcery May 14 13:49:44 thanks , one other question,, make it 2 , how can install other language pack than english, it has them in the panel but wrong encoding.. the secound question , how can i install whois tool for angestorm May 14 13:50:00 must_know: I run a debian system and just installed tesseract with: apt-get install tesseract-ocr May 14 13:50:08 http://elinux.org/Toolchains#Prebuilt_toolchains May 14 13:50:48 I still have no usb :-( May 14 13:50:52 f11f22 , using micro SD ? am talking about angestorm May 14 13:51:28 thurgood, thanks ill check the cross platform compilor May 14 13:51:29 depending on your skill level, it /may/ be easier to go with a debian or ubuntu based os on the beaglebone May 14 13:52:00 ubuntu is easy , because we always go for the easy stuff. May 14 13:52:07 must_know: yes on uSD. May 14 13:52:43 when the new beaglebone board will be released May 14 13:53:00 must_know, the language packs are also available as packages: https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=tesseract&searchon=names&suite=stable§ion=all May 14 14:24:49 thurgood, tbr: USB works now, kernels 3.14 and also arm-soc from the git tree have a omap2plus_defconfig with broken USB for AM335x May 14 14:25:12 tbr, thurgood albeit in PIO mode, DMA refuses to work May 14 14:25:53 has dma mode ever worked with usb on the beagle line? May 14 14:26:25 Yes, but only with a bunch of patches. May 14 14:27:30 since my DSL speed is slow anyway, I don't care if the AM335x uses PIO & cpu cycles to access the USB stick. May 14 14:28:14 For those who need the changes, that did it for me: May 14 14:28:20 select Inventra Highspeed Dual Role Controller (TI, ADI, ...) May 14 14:28:28 select Platform Glue Layer (TI DSPS platforms) May 14 14:28:34 select MUSB DMA mode (Disable DMA (always use PIO)) May 14 14:29:28 I used the git reop arm-soc, but it looks like the 3.14 kernels have the same issue. May 14 15:02:17 hello all May 14 15:02:26 anyone from beagle May 14 15:03:05 need to find / know distributors in my country May 14 15:04:56 questionm: check website May 14 15:06:47 wow i must be missing something, can you give me a link, as I can't see any May 14 15:07:01 http://beagleboard.org/ May 14 15:07:02 links to distributors May 14 15:07:18 I was there but not list of distributors May 14 15:07:30 sorry I meant no list of distributors May 14 15:07:42 select board, use pulldown for 'purchase' May 14 15:07:51 in the center of the orange box next to the image May 14 15:07:55 ok, let me have al look May 14 15:08:00 it helpfully says "select distributor to buy" May 14 15:09:45 ok May 14 15:10:17 but there are only a limited number of distributors in Asia, I'm from Singapore, anyone know of a distributor there May 14 15:10:31 how's the android support for beaglebone black, if anyone here happens to know? May 14 15:13:08 Hi , does anyone know of a distributor in Singapore May 14 15:14:16 questionm have you tried google? May 14 15:16:36 I prefer authorized distributors, rather than those who may claim they are one. May 14 15:22:14 Hi , does anyone know of an Authorized Distributor in Singapore ? May 14 15:34:31 Hi everyone. I have been having several problems with installing Ubuntu (just about every version) on a Beagleboard xM rev C2. I've followed all of the official guides for flashing the various distributions found on Robert Nelson's site to a Micro SD card, and have varying levels of success and different types of failures. Some installations fail to boot at all, 12.10 boots to the ARM login, but my usb peripherals are unusable so I May 14 15:34:44 I followed any forum discussions on this problem all the way through, but the only solution proposed was dated to 2012 and had dead links to what used to be the angstrom-distribution/demo/ pages, so I was unable to progress on this issue. I was once able to get 13.(04?) to boot to an ubuntu screen that said "Resizing root partition" which seemed to fail and dropped me to initramfs (with working keyboard). May 14 15:34:57 After restarting the board from this point, it got indefinitely stuck on the "Resizing root partition" screen and I could get no further. If anyone has any experience getting Ubuntu to boot on this particular board, or have encountered these problems before/know what might be causing them, any advice would be much appreciated. May 14 15:35:07 (sorry for the longwinded paragraphs) May 14 15:43:07 What mechanism is used to run the eMMC flashing scripts automatically on boot? I'm trying to use the scripts in /opt/scripts/tools/eMMC to allow users to flash my quadcopter software. It appears to work, it's just that the script isn't running automatically. May 14 16:04:16 I think I found what I needed. It looks like RCN's flasher checks for the existance of /boot/uboot/flash-eMMC.txt May 14 16:04:41 for whether or not it starts flashing May 14 16:47:57 jkridner: I just found this youtube video that you commented on quite some time ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVsrByp283g. Have you ever heard anything more about this problem or how to solve it? I'm experiencing the same thing with several distros downloaded from rcn-ee.net May 14 16:49:20 Spiderkeys: Using instructions at http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu should work fine for you. May 14 16:51:15 I've followed the instructions for pre-configured images, netinstall, and manual installation. None of them really seem to make a difference. Either it boots but has no keyboard/usb, or it doesn't boot at all. May 14 16:51:45 questionm, try the Singapore outlets of DigiKey, or Element14, or Mouser May 14 16:56:58 Spiderkeys: have you posted to the mailing list? which rev board? May 14 16:57:13 you should post with a boot log. May 14 16:57:24 jkridner: I haven't, yet. I've got rev C2 May 14 16:59:02 Robert usually replies pretty fast on Ubuntu related posts May 14 17:00:26 Alright, I'll put together a step-by-step description of what I did + boot log and shoot it over there. May 14 17:01:31 Half the time when I'm writing up a "wtf?" trouble ticket, as I try to describe the reproduction steps, I end up narrowing it down considerably. Putting together that step-by-step helps the troubleshooting on your end as well as on the support team's. :) May 14 17:02:37 Hehe, I've pretty much got all of the commands memorized at this point. I've tried this entire process with different distros, methods of copying the files, etc about 12 or 13 times now May 14 17:59:58 jkridner: Haha, riddle me this one: I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my sd card and connected the beagleboard to my serial port to grab a boot log and booted it up. On this particular instance I didn't have the monitor hooked up to the board, since it never seemed to boot anyway, but everything seemed to boot up fine on the terminal. I connected the monitor AFTER the boot had reached the login step and lo and behold, it displayed correc May 14 18:00:21 start the board up with the monitor connected (via hdmi), it never displays, even after it reaches the login step as judged by the serial output May 14 18:00:30 hmmm.... so you suspect something in the EDID code that runs at boot? May 14 18:01:36 I don't even know what to suspect. I'm not qualified enough to explain why having the monitor hooked up at boot would cause that problem, but it seems like it was booting fine all along, despite the display not working May 14 18:01:48 Spiderkeys: perhaps http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardFAQ#.22DSS2.22_display_driver_for_.3E.3D_2.6.29 would be useful to you May 14 18:02:14 figure out what the working mode is and force it on the Linux command-line. May 14 18:17:06 http://i.imgur.com/7z6uRn8.jpg hi guys nothing terribly exciting, just showing off my BBB's cooling can May 14 18:17:19 which i am super duper excited about May 14 18:17:37 so i lied. it is very terribly exciting everyone should check it out May 14 18:18:13 cooling? what are you doing that requires cooling? May 14 18:22:32 * myself boggles May 14 18:22:39 i ahve some CMOS cameras i'd like to use for stereoscopic camera May 14 18:23:01 omg the case fan is just for the lulz May 14 18:23:31 Oh it definitely got those! May 14 18:23:51 waterblock next? :) May 14 18:24:22 heywaitasec.... matt said we could keep the dewar.... May 14 18:24:53 jkridner: you wanna dunk a bbb in ln2 one of these days? May 14 18:25:31 myself: yes! May 14 18:25:58 I've likely got some old A2 boards still. May 14 18:26:17 I'llsee about paying airgas a visit. May 14 18:30:03 maybe i should spray it down with neverwet May 14 18:36:33 and immerse it in slush? May 14 18:49:19 hi guys May 14 18:49:53 how to remove a tux logo on beagle on debian wheezy May 14 18:49:56 pleas May 14 18:58:53 how to remove a tux logo on beagle on debian wheezy May 14 19:26:30 ?.. can the BB be used like a chromecast ??? May 14 19:26:41 well, it has hdmi output May 14 19:26:48 but not accelerated video so May 14 19:26:51 gl with that May 14 19:27:02 tellint it what to play from a network connected tablet or pc.. May 14 19:44:30 ethernet is via USB port on the Broadcom .. shared on the usb hub/ethernet chip May 14 19:44:42 or there's Wireless ofc .. lol. May 14 19:48:47 i use mine as an ethernet bridge and it works great May 14 19:49:16 uptime of almost a year i think \ May 14 19:49:18 veremit: ah, fun. May 14 19:53:23 uptime ain't the problem .. its the hardware! May 14 19:53:39 I was disgraced when I saw they'd put that lan/usb bridge on there May 14 19:53:54 you try and share a usb hard disk over ethernet on the Pi .. its a JOKE! May 14 19:54:16 not surprising when you think all that data is trying to go down two physical tracks on the PCB!! May 14 19:54:23 in and out .. twice! May 14 19:56:05 well yeah May 14 19:56:22 but almost no arm systems have gigabit ethernet either May 14 19:56:27 none are blazing fast May 14 19:56:35 imx6 is 1/2gb :D May 14 19:56:43 beagle is 100mbit May 14 19:57:08 there's some silly limit in the imx6 .. the external is gigabit . but there's a bottleneck May 14 19:57:22 yeah i was just looking for a solution May 14 19:57:34 its on the forum somewhere May 14 19:57:41 all i found that was somewhat future proff was odroid plus a usb gigabit adapter May 14 19:57:48 like the usb isn't 3 its 2 .. but the ports are there lol May 14 19:58:03 on the wandboard, that is May 14 19:58:04 and basically settled on just buying a new router with usb May 14 19:58:20 usb ethernet very dependant on drivers :/ sadly. May 14 19:58:30 oh wait .. wifi more .. dunno what ethernet is like May 14 19:59:13 think I'm gonna change my 3g ARM router for the beagle .. so I can read the SMS from the network May 14 19:59:36 3G router only got a small flash with a squashfs on .. did one or two small updates, but its a very minimal OS May 14 20:00:03 no ssh either :/ May 14 22:21:09 Hi I need help with a Beaglebone LCD May 14 22:21:34 I need BEAGLEBONE-LCDCAPE May 14 22:21:52 Digikey does not have any stock does the factory have inventory? May 14 22:22:58 I think you'll probably have to order and wait May 14 22:23:14 try a few different distributors May 14 22:23:31 Who are the approved distributors for Beaglebone May 14 22:23:44 should be on the beagle.org website May 14 22:23:48 Frank: they are on the pull-down at http://beagleboard.org May 14 22:24:07 thank jkr May 14 22:24:09 s+ May 14 22:24:28 * jkridner has removed distributors who haven't updated their pages to reflect Rev C or are exclusively selling the Element14 BeagleBone Black. May 14 22:28:17 jkridner .. is Rev C the new version with extra eMMC? May 14 22:28:26 yes May 14 22:28:32 that's the only hardware change. May 14 22:28:35 cool .. in production now? May 14 22:28:37 just ships with Debian now. May 14 22:28:39 yup... May 14 22:28:43 great stuff May 14 22:28:48 been shipping to distributors just over a week now. May 14 22:29:03 is that across the beagle approved platform too? May 14 22:30:10 only BeagleBone Black for the shipping units.... May 14 22:30:19 Image runs on BeagleBone (white) May 14 22:30:45 There are images for BeagleBoard and BeagleBoard-xM, but not fully "done up" like the BeagleBone ones.... May 14 22:30:47 meant the emmc upgrade ;) May 14 22:30:50 good project for this summer. May 14 22:30:56 oh, only the BeagleBone Black has eMMc. May 14 22:34:26 she hasn't done much of this before so theres some interference May 14 22:34:45 http://www.adafruit.com/products/746 May 14 22:34:47 just that thing May 14 22:34:59 w/ antenna May 14 22:35:06 I did some work with GPS modules years ago May 14 22:35:11 serial output May 14 22:35:14 yep May 14 22:35:29 the amplifier for the speaker in there is giving off some awful noise, need to shorten leads and shield it May 14 22:35:51 so bad it interferes with the alarm system in my house May 14 22:36:19 ouch! May 14 22:36:39 look for modules with a fast "Time to First Fix" or ttff May 14 22:38:01 good view of the sky and antenna obviously a help :) May 14 22:39:33 oh its good May 14 22:39:40 when there isnt awful rf interference blasting it May 14 22:39:43 syncs up nice and quick May 14 22:39:49 got like 11 satelites in the house May 14 22:40:03 ah thats cool .. so its just wifi/beagle switching noise/etc peharps? May 14 22:40:06 perhaps** May 14 22:40:10 typo fairy May 14 22:40:11 no, amplifier May 14 22:40:14 for the speaker May 14 22:40:21 giving off awful noise May 14 22:40:22 hi, there are three mistakes (that I've found so far) in every beaglebone pin/gpio chart-image, even on the BBB itself using the latest downloaded image May 14 22:40:24 oh.. you need to get that all tidied off May 14 22:40:28 using a class-D? May 14 22:40:31 yea May 14 22:40:34 not sure where to report that, so I'm dropping the information here.. May 14 22:40:41 not my project ;) i gave her tips, shes gonna come back to it soon May 14 22:40:43 veremit: yes, all rev c. CircuitCo/BeagleBoard.org and Element14. May 14 22:40:54 but yeah, first official project i saw using my library =[ havent seen anything else yet May 14 22:40:57 guess itll take time May 14 22:41:03 jkridner .. nice, should help out all those who hit the 2gb limit :) May 14 22:41:10 xro|: what are you seeing? May 14 22:41:10 indeed. May 14 22:41:15 P9_14 is actually GPIO50 (not 40) May 14 22:41:36 P9_17 is actually GPIO5 (not 4) May 14 22:41:46 P9_18 is actually GPIO4 (not 5) May 14 22:41:46 9_17 was fixed May 14 22:41:49 as was 9_18 May 14 22:41:50 see new images May 14 22:41:53 on the site May 14 22:42:02 great :) May 14 22:42:10 thanks then :) May 14 22:42:20 9_14 is still wrong tho May 14 22:42:35 jkridner: sorry guess I missed reporting that to you :( May 14 22:42:38 can you submit a patch? May 14 22:42:51 its just the image May 14 22:42:52 should be an easy fix to merge in May 14 22:42:58 xro|: so, http://beagleboard.org/Support/bone101#headers is still wrong on P9_14? May 14 22:43:04 seems that way May 14 22:43:05 i tested all pins May 14 22:43:06 https://github.com/notnyt/beaglebone/blob/master/lib/beaglebone/beaglebone.rb#L88 May 14 22:43:08 * jkridner wonders how he typo'd so much. May 14 22:43:11 i have 9_14 as gpio50 May 14 22:43:23 tut tut :p May 14 22:43:37 * nyt- opening srm now May 14 22:44:16 grrr.... so do I: https://github.com/jadonk/bonescript/blob/master/src/bone.js#L1012 May 14 22:44:38 another distraction I didn't need today. May 14 22:44:41 jkridner, yup P9_14 is still wrong, should be gpio 50 May 14 22:45:10 oh hm srm doesn't map to header pins May 14 22:45:20 just the gpio1[18] May 14 22:45:23 probably not.... May 14 22:45:36 there's a lot of translation between pad/purpose/gpio lol May 14 22:45:51 yea May 14 22:45:53 * nyt- shrugs May 14 22:46:06 ive tested it recently w/ my lib so pretty safe to say its really gpio50 =] May 14 22:46:31 well .. if you toggle an output .. or the input pin .. you'll soon track it down :) May 14 22:48:20 brutal, 6 images to fix =] May 14 22:49:03 sed "gpio40/gpio50" > go May 14 22:49:06 lol May 14 22:53:08 nyt-, xro|: can you check the site now? May 14 22:53:45 that was quick May 14 22:54:02 eventually I'll get this all into CSS like http://jsfiddle.net/jkridner/hdfH6/ May 14 22:54:11 ooooooooo May 14 22:55:05 nice May 14 22:55:09 bone101 needs moar ruby lol May 14 22:56:13 and i need more hours in the day May 14 23:12:01 guy I knew used to swear by smarty-code May 14 23:12:06 Hello. Has anyone used TDM mode with the beaglebones to interface to ADCs? (like the ADS1278) ? May 14 23:28:01 jkridner: what was the reason to choose blue leds? May 14 23:29:00 Cos they're cool May 14 23:29:03 :) May 14 23:29:15 even if early models do burn ya eyes lol May 14 23:29:40 * veremit blames Gerald for that lol May 14 23:30:24 i mean, not red, green, yellow, blue or rgb... just five blue leds! :( May 14 23:31:04 whats wrong with blue May 14 23:31:08 u racist May 14 23:31:16 maybe it was big batch of cheap leds May 14 23:31:28 ketas: because they used to be rare. May 14 23:31:45 it really was an aesthetic decision? May 14 23:31:50 ketas: that is, they used to be expensive and now they aren't anymore... we thought they looked cool, though they are a bit too bright. May 14 23:31:58 vagrantc: yeah. May 14 23:32:18 veremit: indeed, it was Gerald's call. May 14 23:32:26 theyre really bright, too bad max brightness control doesnt work =] May 14 23:32:34 i dont mind the blue though, and you can always turn them off if needed May 14 23:32:54 Bacon Cape also suffers from the brightness factor. May 14 23:32:56 yea, when you can read on light of indicator... then it's flashlight May 14 23:33:06 but at least has PWM connections to the LEDs. May 14 23:33:53 I thought the resistors were changed on later revisions .. or so I read somewhere ... May 14 23:33:55 is bbb cheaper than other boards because it's ti-supported? :P May 14 23:33:55 LEDs == feedback == goodness May 14 23:34:02 Tre chose to use an RGB LED. May 14 23:34:03 feedback = necessary May 14 23:34:15 you can change 'em .. presumably .. if you must :) May 14 23:34:26 ketas: we pay for the parts from TI at a high-volume price.... May 14 23:34:45 that means regular price? May 14 23:34:58 so, we get a break by getting a volume discount that we are probably short on volume to earn. May 14 23:35:16 hmm May 14 23:35:32 TI still makes money, so they aren't going to say some day "hey, this Beagle thing is losing us money, so we should cut them off". May 14 23:35:55 well, it's nice adverTIsement too May 14 23:35:59 indeed. May 14 23:36:06 how many units you looking to move on rev c? May 14 23:36:09 which is why they pay my salary. ;-) May 14 23:36:11 it still gets money back :P May 14 23:36:38 nyt-: dunno for sure. 250k+ May 14 23:36:54 gotta catch up to pi ;) May 14 23:37:07 nyt-: depends if the product guys decide that the volume production is there for them to start dropping it in. May 14 23:37:25 you can't beat io that's in that soc May 14 23:37:25 no point in catching up to a door stop May 14 23:37:26 Gerald's stance of needing to go to CircuitCo for volume orders makes that difficult. May 14 23:37:50 it is not that hard to build your own May 14 23:37:54 yeah, better to DO something. May 14 23:38:06 and advance the state of the art.... May 14 23:38:49 ...yet we still struggle with the mainline kernel support and improving the state of embedded Linux drivers as people focus on userspace approaches... May 14 23:39:13 the myth of mainline kernel support May 14 23:39:21 i run fbsd there May 14 23:39:28 but I feel getting lots of userspace solutions will help drive the motivation to improve the kernel support for the types of sensors/drivers/etc. used in things like printers and robots. May 14 23:39:35 almost all io works May 14 23:39:48 there is very little reason for userspace anything May 14 23:40:00 ds2: except a lack of expertise. May 14 23:40:18 integration can be faster in userspace. May 14 23:40:39 * jkridner feels a good drinks conversation coming on this weekend. :-) May 14 23:40:46 userspace is a quick/dirty starting point May 14 23:40:54 i should get more bbb's and run house with them May 14 23:40:57 until you work out how to do it Properly :p May 14 23:41:02 lol May 14 23:41:40 kernel support will always be a challenge whilst there's still only one person holding the reins. May 14 23:41:40 jkridner: userspace doesn't reduce the expertise... it makes it worse May 14 23:42:00 veremit: you have to wait until he dies May 14 23:42:06 having done both approaches, there are so much more problems with userland then there is with the kernel May 14 23:42:07 exactly May 14 23:42:28 hope it doesn't turn out like the loss of Steve Jobs .. hehe May 14 23:42:32 granted, some kernel APIs really make it difficult to do stuff May 14 23:43:14 veremit: what did loss of jobs do actually? May 14 23:43:30 not a whole load yet .. but I predict Apple will slow down May 14 23:44:49 ds2: kernel APIs? how can it really be an API if it is just "what is implemented today?" means constantly tracking the development. May 14 23:44:57 veremit: iphone will die? May 14 23:45:10 I wouldn't say "die" .. May 14 23:45:19 become plastic crap May 14 23:45:26 not something that widely .. erm .. May 14 23:45:29 used. May 14 23:45:52 can't make difference between iphone and myphone and sciphone and eyephone May 14 23:46:12 whats the next killer i-product? May 14 23:46:45 unsure, they already cover all things May 14 23:47:06 aha .. see - thats where the human weakness lies .. May 14 23:47:29 there is anew product .. and we odn't know what it is .. nor that we need it .. but we're gonna want it so bad ... May 14 23:47:30 maybe they will buy iRobot? May 14 23:48:13 And that is the essence of Apple. May 14 23:48:21 meh... May 14 23:48:39 its good business :) May 14 23:48:47 there were phones and tablets and laptops and portable music players before and after apple May 14 23:48:47 Really good business May 14 23:48:55 unsure where the business model is May 14 23:48:58 but it works May 14 23:49:02 Marketing May 14 23:49:18 apple is a marketing company first and foremost, and a technology one second. May 14 23:49:31 why bill gates never presented windows this way? May 14 23:49:43 jkridner: there is a relatively stable kernel API for stuff May 14 23:49:51 he did it differently .. he talked to Mr Intel and said .. here, you want this for your chips, don't you? May 14 23:50:12 i.e. fill up a fops structure and register for a device...that has been pretty much the same within most major versions May 14 23:50:29 And if I make the software more complicated, and you make your chips faster .. we make $$ :) May 14 23:50:34 the input subsystem has been pretty stable since at least 2.6 days if not further back May 14 23:50:47 I routinely move drivers from old 2.6 kernels into 3.x kernels May 14 23:51:28 people poke version numbers too much May 14 23:51:34 firefox 30, linux 3 May 14 23:52:10 everything's on Rapid Release now .. like its a fashion May 14 23:54:27 "look this new gucci bag... and i also have firefox 100 now" "*wow*" May 14 23:54:50 is it really like that May 15 00:03:08 wow... I am impressed with the logistics.... May 15 00:06:04 as of today, it's possible to build an image that works on the beaglebone black without any software outside of Debian. granted, some features are missing, but it's a start. May 15 00:06:34 vagrantc: seems like there should be dancing in the streets. May 15 00:06:52 it's too hot here to do much in the way of dancing. May 15 00:09:12 "all" we need now is to fix the bugs that prevent multiplatform kernels from using DMA with USB... May 15 00:09:59 jkridner, image on site is correct now as far as I checked ;-) thnx May 15 00:10:14 thanks to you xro|! May 15 00:10:21 np May 15 00:16:02 good work vagrantc May 15 00:45:00 . May 15 01:32:56 quiet day overall May 15 02:15:56 I am having an issue with the BBB (Rev B) angstrom desktop. Both the top and the bottom of the display are cut off. I have tried several different monitors (alienware, samsung) and tvs (sharp aquos, samsung, panasonic) as well as adjusting their display settings. I thought that it may be a OS issue, so I booted debian off of uSD and it was worse on the LXDE desktop. Is this an issue with the BBB or possibly the monitors and tvs? May 15 02:17:44 sounds like an overscan problem May 15 02:18:02 did you try setting the TVs to "just scan" mode? May 15 02:30:33 I have tried to find that option on some of the tvs but I could not find it. Some of the tvs I checked were at my school and I wasn't able to search those. I will give it another go, but all I currently have access to is a sylvania which is short on options to say the least. May 15 02:45:11 klaus_: it's in picture settings usually, with options like 16:9, 4:3 and anamorphic May 15 02:45:50 klaus_: I'm pretty sure I've seen this problem at the OS level before, too, but it's always worthwhile to try and eliminate possibilities to narrow down what it could be **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu May 15 02:59:59 2014
