What's the difference between the BeagleBone Black RevC community and commercial edition? Aug 03 10:39:25 Only thing I can see is that they seem to have different manufacturers and the community one is always sold out. Aug 03 10:42:41 a3f: the community version is for non commercial, community use. Aug 03 10:43:03 a3f: the commercial device is sold without discount and is free to be used in high volume commercial projects Aug 03 10:43:20 I thought so too but why are both the same price then? Aug 03 10:43:38 mh, not sure about that Aug 03 10:43:42 http://www.logicsupply.de/beaglebone-black/boards-cases-capes/bb-bblk-000/ Aug 03 10:43:48 http://www.logicsupply.de/bb-black-c/ Aug 03 10:44:16 one of the problems with the BBB has been that commercial users kept buying up the whole supply Aug 03 10:44:29 which was against distribution agreements even Aug 03 10:44:35 hey any body please explain me diiferance between beagleboard-xm and Beaglebone black thwy are very similar in spec but differ very much in price Aug 03 10:45:07 Ye, I am noticing that shortage. Trying to find someone who sells it in Germany but no luck so far Aug 03 10:45:25 Dev_: they are very different in hardware. the XM is based on an OMAP3 Aug 03 10:46:19 a3f: best bet at the moment seems to be to place a pre-order with a couple of distributors. that way you get a spot in the queue. waiting for "availability" is highly discouraged as you'll end up waiting forever Aug 03 10:48:22 aha Aug 03 10:49:31 I think I will look at another board then, you have any suggestions on comperable boards? Aug 03 10:49:43 which are more widely available? Aug 03 12:33:29 a3f that is pure luck. Best bet is to place a pre order. And get something else to play with in the meantime. Aug 03 12:34:42 Problem is I am stilll kinda new to this and wanted to start playing with that board Aug 03 12:34:46 Could you suggest an alternative? Aug 03 12:35:11 I'd play with an arietta or an samad5 xplained in the meanwhile Aug 03 12:36:06 Ok, will google them and see. Thanks :) Aug 03 12:37:28 BTW jhn: The price Tag of 52,31€ listed on EXP, still has shipping extra, right? on Amazon you can get a board for 65€ including shipping but I think that's too excessive Aug 03 12:38:56 if it gets you the board right away, who cares? Aug 03 12:40:17 Well, with a limited budget, I would prefer to get more bang for the buck.. Aug 03 12:40:22 Look at Watterot too. AFAICR they do not have an availability notification though. I agree with tbr, we play demand and supply here. If you want it, they ship it, pay the extra. Aug 03 12:40:23 So, I think I would care Aug 03 12:41:07 OK, fair answer. Then wait. Aug 03 12:41:16 I will look at your suggestions and pre-order the BBB then I think. Thanks for the help! Aug 03 12:41:50 Good luck! Aug 03 12:43:30 A last bit offtopic question, what's a good online shop for elements in bulk? Aug 03 12:43:37 IC's, resistors, caps .. etc Aug 03 12:45:26 All the usual suspects, mainly depending on your requirements. I go to reichelt as a first stop. Aug 03 12:47:14 mm, Ok Aug 03 12:47:47 other options are RS, arrow, farnell, digikey, conrad... Aug 03 12:50:35 SE Aug 03 12:50:54 Ye, found those googling. Thought maybe there is some supreme shop I overlooked. thanks again :) Aug 03 12:51:29 No, who can use google has found them all. Aug 03 12:56:59 Hello Aug 03 12:57:28 ehlo Aug 03 12:58:06 :D Aug 03 12:58:27 i want to ask something :P Aug 03 12:59:16 i have a soil moisture sensor ( analog ) which is for arduino and i am trying to make it works on beagle but i think something is going wrong Aug 03 12:59:43 If it runs on 5V you might have fried the BBB. Aug 03 13:00:01 no i have it on 3.3 Aug 03 13:00:20 i use python for the prog Aug 03 13:01:17 the problem is that when i read the number i took 1799.0 but on arduino i toook 670( which is the normal) Aug 03 13:01:55 Try connecting a simple pot in lieu of the sensor and see if that behaves linear or at least in a way you understand. Aug 03 13:02:35 what is the lieu? Aug 03 13:03:12 And take the sensor ot of your coffe mug, that will distort the readings… :-) Aug 03 13:03:32 lieu means place afaik Aug 03 13:03:38 a ok :D Aug 03 13:03:39 French for “in place of” Aug 03 13:03:40 hehehe Aug 03 13:04:07 btw cloud9 in stable? Aug 03 13:04:18 ( i am new on beagle) Aug 03 13:18:40 mifos: the scale might just be different between arduino and the BBB. read the documentation to find out. Aug 03 13:19:13 mifos: note that there are two different ways to read ADC values on the BBB, one is raw and the other is converted to voltage, IIRC Aug 03 13:26:12 thanks tbr i will check it btw Aug 03 13:27:09 i checked that the 1800 which i take all the time is the max volt from Analog input. because the sensor has as output 3.3 V so i have to reduce it.. Aug 03 13:27:47 whoa, whoa, wait right there Aug 03 13:28:45 mifos: DO NOT under ANY circumstances attach 3.3V to the ADC pins Aug 03 13:28:55 mifos: use the DEDICATED 1.8V ADC supply Aug 03 13:29:01 for details refer to the SRM Aug 03 13:29:43 aaa okk Aug 03 15:02:12 to connect a power source to BBB 5V input, which is the ripple specs that I should follow? Aug 03 15:03:31 I know "the lowest->the best" but I have no idea what is suitable. suppose I have a 100mV ripple power source, is it suitable for using? Aug 03 18:22:14 Hello all! Just found out about this Beagleboard. Very cool. I want to use it as the basis for a "super iPod" that uses a 500GB laptop drive along with the DragonFly USB audio output device. Aug 03 18:22:31 Will the beagle connect to a hard drive? Aug 03 18:24:19 only via usb Aug 03 18:26:51 bummer Aug 03 18:27:02 well, are there 2 usb ports available? Aug 03 18:27:14 so I could do a usb drive + the dragonfly? Aug 03 18:27:24 or, can you add an outboard usb hub to do the same thing? Aug 03 18:28:02 and at what point does the low USB power to the beagleboard come up short? Aug 03 18:28:17 very quick Aug 03 18:28:32 sheesh... then what good is the darn thing? Aug 03 18:28:36 other than novelty Aug 03 18:29:07 no mass storage... barely capable of supporting devices Aug 03 18:30:03 though, i admit, i can't blame the beagle for USB's low power provisions ;) Aug 03 18:31:01 Since I want this in my car, I have access to external 12v power. Wonder if I could somehow supplement the Beagle's USB power supply with the car's? Aug 03 18:31:42 maybe a self-powered USB hub, to which i could attach the hard drive and Dragonfly? Aug 03 18:34:24 the EMMC-2G cape is responsible for onboard memory card, or for plugged external sdcard? Aug 03 18:35:08 STLRod, you maybe need a 12 -> 5 volts converter Aug 03 18:35:31 True, pzn. OR just find a powered usb hub that already uses 12volt ;) Aug 03 18:35:44 then cut off the AC wall wart Aug 03 18:35:50 and go pure DC Aug 03 18:35:56 STLRod, yes Aug 03 18:36:11 project getting more complex by the minute :) Aug 03 18:36:59 Can any of the beagles run Win7 pure, or do i need to buy a CE variation? I'd want this thing to boot up in seconds. Aug 03 18:37:00 STLRod, I use tp-link TL-WR740N, router + wifi + 4 port switch. its input can receive from 9 to 20 volts DC. I use it in other projects Aug 03 18:38:01 hmm... good to know. But my project is just to provide audio Aug 03 18:38:10 using a 500GB external drive Aug 03 18:38:19 an the BeaglePod interface software Aug 03 18:38:28 IF that stuff isn't vaporware Aug 03 18:38:50 I'd hate to have to develop my own Ipod communiation software Aug 03 18:39:16 Though I could find some developers to do that... at high cost :( Aug 03 18:39:46 And I'm assuming Apple doesn't charge to use their protocol? Or forces you to buy licensing rights to software created that uses it? Aug 03 18:40:00 If so, that may have killed the BeaglePod project years ago. Aug 03 18:42:19 why are so many people logged into this chat room, yet no one saying anything? weird Aug 03 18:43:25 I understand the #mp3 channels and such, as they are mainly used by bot software to steal software and music, but this seems like a legit discussion channel. Aug 03 18:44:01 STLRod: it's IRC, there is no requirement to be active all times. Aug 03 18:58:08 how can I get the "watchdog status", I'd like to know if it is enabled or disabled Aug 03 19:10:52 STLRod <<--- lol Aug 03 20:50:37 howdy Aug 03 22:07:31 i am trying to get a DS18B20 1-wire temp sensor working on my beaglebone running latest default angstrom. Is the 1-wire support module compiled into this kernel? Aug 03 22:08:04 i look in boot log with "dmesg | grep w1" and i dont see anything Aug 03 22:10:15 did you try modprobing? Aug 03 22:10:47 also I've seen many pages covering 1-wire on the BBB Aug 03 22:18:06 I did look around for a module but I dont see anything that looks obvious. http://pastebin.com/NtMbSmz2 I was expecting something like w1-gpio.ko Aug 03 22:19:38 I read about needing a patch for the kernel, it sounded like a pain in the neck. I was hoping it was included in the stock beaglebone kernel by now. Aug 03 22:20:52 perhaps someone has a pre-compiled module for the stock kernel? Aug 03 22:29:45 tbr: is the bbb the same as the beaglebone? Im really questioning if the kernel module is actually compiled in? or if the kernel still needs to be patched and recompiled like in this post. http://dominion.thruhere.net/koen/cms/using-1-wire-on-a-beaglebone Aug 03 23:14:31 vvu: are you there? Aug 04 01:15:32 Hey guys i have been making some headway on a project with my beaglebone black. I ran into an issue where I would have a l298n hbridge driving a motor with speed control using a pwm pin and two gpio pins. I then would try to use a servo as well to operate an rc car. however when i set the duty of the servo my beaglebone black shuts off. what would cause this? Aug 04 01:41:03 what are you powering the servo with? Aug 04 02:41:53 put in a request for a return of a BBB Aug 04 02:42:04 when should i expect a reply? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Aug 04 02:59:59 2014
