**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Jan 16 03:00:15 2015 Jan 16 08:28:03 Hey, I'm new with beaglebone, just got my hands on a board. I'm running ubuntu 12 and i can't seem to find any device related to beagle under /dev Jan 16 08:28:39 kfir: like what, for example? Jan 16 08:29:07 LetoThe2nd: I want to connect to the board using putty/minicom etc and see the uboot logs for example Jan 16 08:29:41 LetoThe2nd: For that i need some sort of char device that will allow me to connect to the beagle.. Jan 16 08:29:43 kfir: now, that is something completely different than /dev, don't you think? Jan 16 08:30:04 kfir: to see the serial output of u-boot for example, you need a serial cable Jan 16 08:30:15 the classic ftdi 3.3v one Jan 16 08:31:58 LetoThe2nd: I see. so what can I get via the usb connection? At the moment i just plugged my board to the pc, the beagle flashes its leds but i cant see anything. (doesn't seem to connect to my pc via the ethernet or anything for that matter) Jan 16 08:32:40 kfir: over usb, you dont get anything low-level Jan 16 08:33:30 kfir: so what does dmesg show after powering on the beagle? Jan 16 08:33:34 LetoThe2nd: And is there no way to redirect the uboot logs to one of the other onboard uarts? (i dont have an ftdi cable) Jan 16 08:34:00 kfir: the other onboard uarts are 3.3v too, so what would be the use of redirection? Jan 16 08:34:25 hello smart people Jan 16 08:34:25 LetoThe2nd: Sadly i dont have an hdmi adapater yet.. currently i'm blind as to what happens on the board Jan 16 08:34:32 how is everyone doing. Jan 16 08:34:52 is the chocolate king @KotH awake Jan 16 08:35:13 LetoThe2nd: Wiring something and getting a uart connection from the available pins Jan 16 08:35:38 kfir: so i repeat: what does dmesg show when your usb-connected beagle boots? Jan 16 08:35:56 LetoThe2nd: on my pc that is? Jan 16 08:36:36 kfir: yes Jan 16 08:42:31 LetoThe2nd: Well apparently the beagle is creating a tty device named ttyACM0 by udev and also as a media storage device (/dev/sdX) Jan 16 08:43:01 kfir: well then whats the problem. point your favorite terminal software at ttyACM0 and be happy. Jan 16 08:43:18 LetoThe2nd: This tty device should allow me to get a terminal on the board? Jan 16 08:43:45 kfir: yes. Jan 16 08:44:36 LetoThe2nd: Where can i see the correct baud rate to use? Jan 16 08:45:02 kfir: 115200 is kind of the inofficial standard for u-boot Jan 16 08:45:31 8n1, that is Jan 16 08:46:08 LetoThe2nd: thank you very much for your help. I'll ask once again to make sure, is there no way to get the uboot cli without an ftdi cable? Jan 16 08:46:52 any of you smart people go a suggesion on how to pass a bunch of differential ethernet signals between two pcbs Jan 16 08:47:01 what kind of connector might be good Jan 16 08:47:08 kfir: sigh. these are really things that have been documented over and over again on the web, so please read up for yourself a bit. Jan 16 08:47:52 kfir: you do not need a *FTDI* cable specifically to connect to the debug uart, but something that shifts the 3.3v level to whatever uart your host has. Jan 16 08:48:33 kfir: and the usb-to-3.3v-uart-all-in-one-cable is the most convenient thing to do that, thats why its recommended. Jan 16 08:48:33 LetoThe2nd: I'm currently googling without any luck :( Jan 16 12:38:49 hi everyone Jan 16 12:39:07 i have a rapid problem with my beaglebone reva6a Jan 16 12:39:29 i am trying connect to the board with usb and using just the getting started page Jan 16 12:39:42 but it is not connecting Jan 16 12:39:52 i am updated the image many times Jan 16 12:40:18 i am not using an ethernet cable btw Jan 16 12:41:04 Morning! Jan 16 18:18:34 some level of depression and there? Jan 16 18:18:59 Doing good... just came back into the office from a ride in the bike. Jan 16 18:19:15 How come depression? Smile man... =) Jan 16 18:19:23 The best thing God created was one day after another. Jan 16 18:19:27 or something along those lines Jan 16 18:19:35 I am not man Jan 16 18:19:54 Oh... sorry about that. Smile friend =) Jan 16 21:34:40 rcn-ee .. been looking at your Allwinner pages .. but I have an A13 board, not an A10/20 .. is much of it transferrable from the A10 stuff? looks like just a packaging difference. . but thought I'd ask a second opinion! :) Jan 16 21:35:52 veremit, today, with mainline u-boot, it's pretty similar for all boards... on the A20 page, the only diff for 3 boards is what u-boot config to build.. Jan 16 21:35:53 yes, its also an Olimex board ... the one with the Wifi Jan 16 21:36:45 I'd like to put a minimal debian on it, as I have with the wand-dual for similar purposes :) Jan 16 21:36:59 hi, new to beaglebone Jan 16 21:37:10 I have to confess, although I've loaded the Olimex dev pages .. I haven't read them lol Jan 16 21:37:30 just fired up the cloud 9, can't seem to get it to run any code. Jan 16 21:37:34 try another nick steve, new-to-beagle Jan 16 21:37:35 veremit, should be "A13-OLinuXino_defconfig"... Jan 16 21:37:50 on your site or theirs!? :) Jan 16 21:38:08 I think they're on an older 3.x kernel iirc Jan 16 21:38:32 veremit, with u-boot: v2015.01 and it'll select the correct v3.19-rc4 *.dtb.. Jan 16 21:38:56 but if I can port the uboot and kernel config's. .. should be laughing .. yea? Jan 16 21:41:39 logging back in with new nickname Jan 16 21:42:00 was looking for help to understandy why the demo code I put into cloud 9 ide doesn't run. Jan 16 21:42:14 I have cloud9 running, and I load blinkled.js for example. Jan 16 21:42:20 I'll dig out the build system or re-clone and have a go .. got some new wands on their way :) Jan 16 21:42:34 click run. I see the debugger look like its run, then stop. Jan 16 21:42:40 but nothing happens to led. Jan 16 21:42:58 i I click on the toggle led in the beagle bonescript pages, it works. Jan 16 21:43:14 any ideas? Jan 16 21:43:16 did you click run again? Jan 16 21:43:29 usually it's in debug mode, waiting for you.. Jan 16 21:43:57 yes Jan 16 21:44:09 it does say debugging listening on port 15454 Jan 16 21:57:44 is it single-stepping? not that I've ever seen this funky cloud stuff **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Jan 17 02:59:59 2015
