Jul 14 05:00:14 someone complaining about the ability to use my gem in your console build, seems to have a failure loading the dtbs, any insight? Jul 14 05:01:02 bit early for rcn .. try in about 4-6h time Jul 14 05:04:50 ah no dtc Jul 14 05:13:17 at least that was an easy fix ;) Jul 14 05:15:50 https://rubygems.org/gems/beaglebone/versions/1.2.6 hah wow, didnt realize how many downloads Jul 14 05:15:51 neat Jul 14 05:16:25 probably just gem update tho :( Jul 14 06:48:37 hello amelgo are you free now? Jul 14 06:49:00 agmlego* Jul 14 06:49:13 pls pls help me Jul 14 06:49:57 usb problem is not resolved yet!! Jul 14 09:41:40 Has anyone had any joy getting overlays loaded using kernel 4.1.1-bone10 and overlays from https://github.com/RobertCNelson/bb.org-overlays ? Jul 14 09:43:00 I can get ADC to load, but none of the UART overlays load ... "could not find target property 'fixup' @__local_fixups__" errors, see end of http://pastebin.com/MYX1MM7J Jul 14 10:32:32 For future reference if you get "@/__local_fixup__" errors make sure you have the right version of the device tree compiler (etc) installed. Jul 14 13:56:00 Hello . . . I am having trouble finding a guide for connecting a wifi dongle that works for me. I have the Beagle Bone Black and an Asus N10 wireless dongle. How can I get it to connect to wifi? Jul 14 14:06:22 Technicus: plug the dongle into the BBB. then reboot (musb does not support hot plug of usb) Jul 14 14:06:30 Technicus: then it should be visible Jul 14 15:23:46 hey guys, noob question.. does BBB has a microcontroller built in ? Jul 14 15:24:12 if i wanted to code C to control a lightbulb, or other stuff Jul 14 15:24:36 or should i get a micro controller and connect it to beagleboardblack ? Jul 14 15:25:05 techtronik: it has microcontrollers built in, but to flip a switch, they aren't needed. Jul 14 15:25:40 You can just use a GPIO and something that will handle the larger voltage. Jul 14 15:26:27 Mmmm, I understand.. but i'm only playing around to learn, can it handle a simple tiny light bulb ? Jul 14 15:29:24 there are the four built-in LEDs Jul 14 15:29:29 it can handle a tiny LED yes Jul 14 15:29:41 techtronik: can you state the voltage and current specs of that tiny bulb. Jul 14 15:29:57 techtronik: I suggest using something like "powertail switch" for a light bulb... or for a small light bulb, use a mosfet. Jul 14 15:30:28 leds: yes. light bulbs: no, those take too much current and you need to use a relay or a transistor (mosfet). Jul 14 18:19:46 Hi. I'm trying to get TI Gstreamer plugins to work on my BeagleBoard XM. As I understood from numerous instructions, I need to have DSP Bridge driver. Does anyone knows whether distributions available at http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#DSP contains those drivers? Jul 14 18:36:11 <_av500_> psmolenski: thats all ancient stuff Jul 14 18:36:21 <_av500_> nobody has worked on gst for the BB XM for a long time Jul 14 18:36:46 <_av500_> psmolenski: which means it might all work if you have the right version of all the parts needed Jul 14 18:38:42 @_av500_: Yeah, the problem is most of the stuff isn't there anymore and the stuff that I somehow managed to find is not compatibile with one another Jul 14 18:38:59 psmolenski you could also try out the old gst-openmax driver Jul 14 18:42:53 woglinde: I'll check this out. If TI plugins are obsolete, what is the most up-to-date solution for making gstreamer and BBMX's DSP play together nicely? Jul 14 18:43:09 <_av500_> psmolenski: there is none Jul 14 18:43:17 <_av500_> people moved on Jul 14 18:43:29 I see Jul 14 18:43:30 <_av500_> the omap division at TI is also gone Jul 14 18:44:56 <_av500_> also, most of what you can do on the DSP you can do on current HW on the main CPU Jul 14 18:45:01 <_av500_> in terms of CPU power Jul 14 18:54:25 You are saying that I shouldn't bother utilizing DSP (I want to use it for h254 decoding) and leave it all to BB CPU, or should I rather use a newer board? Jul 14 18:54:50 h264* Jul 14 18:59:51 <_av500_> psmolenski: the BB XM can decode SD quality H264 Jul 14 19:00:16 <_av500_> and some at 720p if you are lucky Jul 14 19:00:54 using only CPU? Jul 14 19:00:57 <_av500_> you can do almost the same on the main CPU but you will need 100% of it Jul 14 19:00:58 <_av500_> no, DSP Jul 14 19:01:06 I get it Jul 14 19:01:09 <_av500_> so of course the DSP would help Jul 14 19:40:53 good day.. Jul 14 19:41:27 o/ Jul 14 19:42:31 does anybodywork with an underwater wifi link ? how deep does it work ? Jul 14 20:13:36 Hello. I've come across an issue where my beaglebone black (Rev C with Debian) does not boot at all. When I power the board, there is a brief flash from the PWR and nothing happens. I think that it might have been caused by the underside of the beaglebone black touching an external power source. I placed the BBB on a surface with two bits of metal (one positive and one negative). This was the power for two dc motors. Jul 14 20:13:36 After doing this the BBB turned off and I placed it back again thinking that this was OK. And after that the BBB did net turn on again. I saw the elinux article on "Improper Power Down" (http://elinux.org/Beagleboard:BeagleBoneBlack#Hardware) but no fix. Anyone got any idea how to fix this problem? (Sorry for the long explanation) . Jul 14 20:14:46 replace board. Jul 14 20:15:26 https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/10622 Jul 14 20:16:18 sounds like you fried your board. what ds2 says Jul 14 20:16:40 Oh good. I'm going to have to buy another one. :( Jul 14 20:17:21 I learned this lesson with a much, much more expensive and hard-to-replace motherboard, early in my days as a PC tech. At least you learned it on something cheap and commonly available! Jul 14 20:18:36 (I had a homemade workbench, in which one of the nails securing the benchtop had worked itself out a little, and was standing proud of the surface by just far enough to short some traces.) Jul 14 20:19:16 That does not sound good. Jul 14 20:21:34 I might consider using an arduino for my project then, as they are much cheaper. I don't want to buy another BBB now as I don't have a big budget and I already bought lots of parts. Jul 14 20:23:02 Yeah. Lately I make little base-plates for my boards, that zip-tie to the bottom and make it less likely that I'll set 'em on something bad. Also I try to plan out my workspace before I start and make sure my leads are long enough that I don't have to run things over top of other things. I spend some time making new tools and leads and stuff, but that pays off in the long run. Jul 14 20:23:50 Here's one that also strain-relieves the USB connector: http://cdn.instructables.com/F0D/4V45/HYY8JJML/F0D4V45HYY8JJML.LARGE.jpg Jul 14 20:24:25 here's how the simple plates look from the bottom: https://twitter.com/i3detroit/status/322390089395224579 Jul 14 20:24:59 and a 3d-printed one for the bbb: http://www.ctheroux.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Beaglebone-Black-view-2.jpg Jul 14 20:25:28 Oh well, I was unaware of this until now. And I learned in the hard way. I will certainly be more cautious this time. Jul 14 20:26:15 I don't own a 3d-printer so I well have to make one myself. Jul 14 20:26:26 you got lucky, learn it once here, nice and cheap, and you'll remember it *before* blowing up a $200 server board :) Jul 14 21:27:47 Does anyone have any information about using an sd card as expanded storage for an emmc install? I've been trying for years to no avail, and the information is always changing. With this latest debian release I'm finding it's hard to find anything that's relevant to where the BBB is today. Jul 14 21:33:14 ah...distro brain damage is showing itself Jul 14 21:34:31 <_av500_> jordansinn: just use an install from SD and ignore emmc Jul 14 21:42:59 I am quite aware of that but it is not what I am looking to do. Jul 14 21:48:01 you want to use uSD as part of a unionfs or something? Jul 14 21:48:21 tbh its easier to just use a uSD .. and ignore the emmc Jul 14 21:48:50 btrfs might be better than union lol Jul 14 22:00:41 or just do a traditional Linux install before the distros screwed it up Jul 14 22:00:56 / , /var, /usr, /home can be on different partitions Jul 14 22:06:21 ds2, thats easy with a netinstall.. not sure how easy that is with the bbb Jul 15 01:16:19 n Jul 15 01:23:26 hello. ... **** ENDING LOGGING AT Wed Jul 15 02:59:58 2015
