**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed Feb 03 02:59:58 2016 Feb 03 03:41:02 Noob here. Is my BBB broken? Tried flashing from an SD-card and the blinking less stopped after half a minute... Now I can't even get that far anymore... Just getting "C"-s on the serial output Feb 03 03:50:05 Tried two different SD cards, not getting anything other than the PWR led and C:s on the serial port Feb 03 03:56:55 Sounds like it bricked to me. Gonna hafta JTAG it to reflash it to a known good firmware. Feb 03 04:00:56 you should be able to boot it with a good uSD .. but sounds like either your cards are bad or images are bad Feb 03 04:01:17 CC just means it can't find the first level bootloader Feb 03 04:05:53 So you suggest I try to buy a new SD card and/or another image? Once after 30 tries I got it to start blinking again for a few seconds before stopping... Which is why I tried another SD card, but not getting any life signs with that one. Feb 03 04:42:54 hi Feb 03 04:43:02 my name is sam Feb 03 04:43:26 my beagleboard Feb 03 04:43:35 pasward Feb 03 04:43:48 how now Feb 03 04:43:51 ok? Feb 03 04:44:00 hihi Feb 03 04:44:06 what!! Feb 03 04:45:51 ooooookay Feb 03 05:32:34 i flashed http://beagleboard.org/latest-images debian 8.3 from here to my bbg. it boots, and shows as a usb storage device, but usb ethernet shows "connecting" Feb 03 05:33:41 is there something i need to do other than uncomment the line in uEnv.txt to get usb ethernet working? Feb 03 05:34:35 when i flash debian 7.9, usb ethernet works fine Feb 03 06:38:07 hey guys, I am back again. I am still stuck with connecting BBB using SSH. As tbr suggested yesterday to use debug cable we fused FTDI serial cable and PuTTY our BBB, it not only login us into our BBB but we were also able to run commands. But when we connected BBB with our machine and SSH and PuTTY, it showed time out error Feb 03 06:38:51 i dont know why this is happening. we only inserted SD card and then it stopped connecting with machine in normal mode Feb 03 08:00:08 veremit: Thanks for the help! After 100s of tries I finally found a way to get it working. Seems it is the uSD reader that gets a poor connection. I had to wedge a piece of cardboard in between the card and the reader to get it working reliably. Feb 03 10:49:03 dirty contacts maybe? Feb 03 14:09:47 Hi Feb 03 14:10:22 I'm playing with yocto and the beaglebone using the jumptek meta-bbb repo Feb 03 14:10:37 Now I was wondering if the remoteproc pru driver is already mainlined? Feb 03 14:11:37 I cant find anything on free electrons (online linux kernel source viewer) so I guess its nog mainlined, and I was wondering how the progress is going? Is there any intent of contributing it to mainlinux linux? Feb 03 14:13:57 I did manage to enable the uio_pru module build in yocto :D but I guess its not very linuxy (or unixy) Feb 03 14:15:32 fenrig: you might ask that in #yocto? Feb 03 14:16:09 av500: why ask in yocto? this is a beaglebone issue Feb 03 14:16:34 I dont think yocto is responsible for contributing the pru remoteproc to the kernel Feb 03 14:18:38 I was also wondering where the remoteproc pru driver work is happening on the internet, what particular git repo i need to checkout to have the latest pru remoteproc support Feb 03 14:18:54 hi av500 Feb 03 14:20:13 I found this one: https://github.com/shubhi1407/PRU-framework Feb 03 14:20:25 http://elinux.org/BeagleBoard/GSoC/2015_Projects#Project:_PRU-Bridge Feb 03 14:20:38 http://elinux.org/BeagleBoard/GSoC/2015_Projects#Project:_PRUSS_support_for_newer_kernels Feb 03 14:21:00 ds2: ^^^^ Feb 03 14:21:10 ds2: do you know who is behind pru remoteproc? Feb 03 14:23:34 hm ist gpl Feb 03 14:23:35 okay Feb 03 14:23:54 av500: thank you very much Feb 03 14:24:46 hm haha Feb 03 14:24:47 https://github.com/shubhi1407/PRU-framework/issues/1 Feb 03 14:25:11 woglinde: he is she Feb 03 14:25:17 gsoc 2015 student Feb 03 14:25:18 Is Texas Instruments still engaging the pru support in the linux kernel, because I think they have very solid extension to embedded linux if they continue to pursue it Feb 03 14:25:33 fenrig: sorry, no idea Feb 03 14:25:47 av500 yes I know Feb 03 14:25:48 fenrig: you might ask that to jason kridner on the mailing list Feb 03 14:26:00 av500 but no excuse for poor QA Feb 03 14:28:31 av500 did you attend the fosdem this year? Feb 03 15:19:30 hi, when I run my executable first.out on my debian beaglebone I get "Illegal Instruction" Feb 03 15:19:49 is it an ARM executable? Feb 03 15:19:56 I tried compiling with Linaro as well as the TI compiler built into ccsv6 Feb 03 15:20:10 why not gcc Feb 03 15:20:20 just out of curiosity Feb 03 15:20:20 yes I do a file first.out and it reports that it's an executable Feb 03 15:20:35 it's an executable, but is it an ARM executable or an x86 one? Feb 03 15:21:11 ELF 32-bit LSB executable, ARM, EABI5 version 1 Feb 03 15:21:35 statically linked not stripped Feb 03 15:21:46 hmm. that's odd Feb 03 15:22:11 gss is not an option when I make a new project with the ccs wizard Feb 03 15:22:17 gcc Feb 03 15:22:47 all it does is printf hello world Feb 03 15:22:49 you might need to tweak your compiler settings to better target the am335x chip Feb 03 15:23:05 ok Feb 03 15:34:50 twoten: linaro is gcc Feb 03 15:35:05 eh Feb 03 15:35:07 kremlin: Feb 03 15:35:22 oh, ive never heard of it before even Feb 03 15:36:04 the linaro gcc toolchain is pretty decent, and distro-independent: just unpack anywhere and adds its bin to your PATH Feb 03 15:36:10 I just discovered that the qt creator is built in to ccsv6 - extremely cool Feb 03 15:55:59 yikes bloaty bloaty Feb 03 16:48:32 how can I tell if my BBB is a cortex A or M? Feb 03 16:50:49 twoten: its a cortex A8 Feb 03 17:09:18 hipster link (http://hipstercircuits.com/) on the BBB wiki page is 404. Feb 03 17:15:56 hello, I am a masters student Feb 03 17:16:36 i am wondering if we could get a beagleboard with customization? Feb 03 18:20:09 pavan: customized how? software? hardware? Feb 03 18:24:42 can we purchase a board with custom design from beagleboard.org? Feb 03 18:31:42 I don't think so. But I work with a guy who designs pc boards, he uses Altium - the BB comes with schematics and pc layouts so you could make your own and find someone who can Feb 03 18:32:10 hes already gone i think^^ Feb 03 20:54:35 I'm running ccsv6 on my Ubuntu desktop and I'm compiling for a BB Black target. But the compiler makes either a bare metal executable, or a 64 bit Linux one - and neither will run on my BBB. How can I tell the compiler to make a 32 bit Linux exe? Feb 03 22:31:58 rcn .. damnit .. your SSL is broken Feb 03 22:32:08 unless its me on eewiki .. anyone else wanna try? Feb 03 22:35:44 curious on folks Feb 03 22:35:58 curious on folks' impression of the banana pi versus the bbb Feb 03 22:36:16 depends on application :D Feb 03 22:36:23 the A20 is dual-core Feb 03 22:36:27 io bpi << bbb Feb 03 22:36:35 everything else .. bpi >> bbb Feb 03 22:36:53 veremit: you mean gpio? or serial? or both? or what? Feb 03 22:36:57 check out the orange-pi too .. its quad-core Feb 03 22:37:02 anything. lol. Feb 03 22:37:16 but what I like .. native sata :D Feb 03 22:37:23 ah. Feb 03 22:37:32 or at least .. even if its abridge chip . its onboard Feb 03 22:37:42 * yates nods Feb 03 22:37:52 but no pru Feb 03 22:38:05 tru - no pru :) Feb 03 22:38:05 one has musb -sigh- Feb 03 22:38:12 musb? Feb 03 22:38:18 micro usb? Feb 03 22:38:18 mhmm Feb 03 22:38:21 our beloved musb Feb 03 22:38:26 broken host Feb 03 22:39:04 veremit: the orange-pi doesn't really have native sata, it's a grafted on usb-sata adapter Feb 03 22:39:14 vagrantc: yes I know that :P Feb 03 22:39:18 but its ONboard Feb 03 22:39:19 or, at least the orangepi plus2 does Feb 03 22:39:36 and it's cheaper Feb 03 22:39:40 think mine's pi-plus but not 2 Feb 03 22:39:42 $35 vs $55? Feb 03 22:39:48 it is cheap Feb 03 22:39:50 bpi vs bbb Feb 03 22:40:16 how did they do that? using the allwinner a20 vs ti am335x? Feb 03 22:40:43 chinese manufacture Feb 03 22:41:10 I think the allwinner chips are cheaper too Feb 03 22:41:19 k Feb 03 22:42:06 how does arm a7 compare to arm a8? Feb 03 22:42:56 what? rtfm? Feb 03 22:44:07 yates: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Linux_Core_MUSB_User%27s_Guide Feb 03 22:47:37 yates: cortex-a7 vs. cortex-a8, or arm v7 vs. arm v8? or... Feb 03 22:48:16 i think the former. the allwinner a20 is an arm cortex a7, right? Feb 03 22:50:35 bttrw Feb 03 22:50:39 all the ones i've worked with are Feb 03 22:51:13 cortex-a7 even has virtualization extensions! although hard-pressed to find a board with enough ram to make that useful Feb 03 22:54:13 what would you virtualize? a 8086 or a 8088 lol Feb 03 22:55:41 I spose you could go for one of the early consoles .. Feb 03 22:56:19 there's a following of retro-gaming Feb 03 22:56:55 well, mostly other arm machines, for all the reasons virtualization is so widely used on other architectures Feb 03 22:57:02 but not enough ram for that to be really useful Feb 03 22:57:41 yeah that is a major limiting factor **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu Feb 04 02:59:59 2016
