**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Thu May 21 02:59:57 2020 May 21 03:00:19 Are you still dealing w/ eLinux.org? May 21 03:00:45 I kind of quit b/c I thought it was over, kaput, ended, nil, exiled, finished. May 21 03:01:50 Yea. Here is MY place for the Beaglebone. Only two files so far. No Jason made some changes after me. May 21 03:02:02 https://github.com/kenmartin-unix/Beaglebone May 21 03:04:01 My Beaglebone.html file will get you all the stuff without having to search hi and low. May 21 03:04:46 Oh. May 21 03:04:47 Okay. May 21 03:05:07 Ha. He changed all the stuff you changed. That is funny. No offense to active or past parties. May 21 03:05:51 I never really followed those pages. I got the books instead. But, I think those pages, when active, are full of interesting ideas. May 21 03:06:03 Actually he changed 1 thing that was discontinued. May 21 03:07:20 Oh. May 21 03:07:24 Still, I had my laugh. May 21 03:07:35 B/c...I typed up all that mess. May 21 03:07:50 No formatting, i.e. for your viewing pleasure. May 21 03:08:59 Take a second at the beaglebone.html it now includes items for builders like where to get nice tool kits wire jumpers alagator clips souldering irons breadboards, etc. May 21 03:09:13 Well, my sqlite3 is at a standstill right now. It is either import a .csv or go back to it later. May 21 03:09:44 Yea. Online. I am not sure what happened but we have no electronic stores. May 21 03:10:28 Now, if you want belts, gas, gas, gas, or oil industry mfg. tools, you found your place but no elect. stores. May 21 03:10:29 What do you want to do with a csv file? May 21 03:11:17 Nothing really but I was going to learn more sqlite3 stuff and I am at a point in this section where I need to import a .csv file or stop, move on, or read something else. May 21 03:11:43 I think I have an old .csv file. May 21 03:11:51 I will import it. May 21 03:13:02 Oh. May 21 03:13:54 I would first need to put it on the BBGW, then import it from the file system onboard. I think. May 21 03:13:59 Do you have any ideas on this idea? May 21 03:21:16 I used to have some sql scripts. can't fint them. On the net there are sites with sample csv files May 21 03:24:35 Try this google search "sql csv examples" May 21 03:25:03 Okay. May 21 03:25:25 I just tried a complicated .xls file and it fails. May 21 03:25:26 Boo. May 21 03:25:37 I will just make one up to test. May 21 03:26:02 KenUnix: I am also learning how to test w/ unittest in python. May 21 03:26:30 Start simple. get your feet wet then more compliated May 21 03:26:45 Otay it is. May 21 03:28:27 What is simple the csv file or the sql file May 21 03:28:51 well, the xls is older and colored w/ graphics. So, that is out on my BBB. May 21 03:29:11 Unless, I get the HDMI cable out w/ xfce4. May 21 03:29:55 Do you have a script for sql? May 21 03:30:33 Oh. Sort of. The book I have been trying to read has many but I was learning just the past week and today on scripts for sqlite3. May 21 03:30:54 I was just using the cli today to learn more. May 21 03:31:45 I might get a neat book one day. May 21 03:31:55 One that is dedicated to sqlite3. May 21 03:32:10 push up the cli script. May 21 03:37:16 What...what? May 21 03:37:18 Push up? May 21 03:37:33 Do you want to see it, you mean? May 21 03:38:30 I see the newest one that is available is '18. Not bad actually... May 21 03:40:37 Yea. Also check out May 21 03:40:44 https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/sql-example/ May 21 03:44:27 Yep. May 21 03:44:29 I see. May 21 03:47:32 It seems there are too many variables online now for each subject. May 21 03:51:44 That text is big and bold. Everything on that site is very large. May 21 03:55:08 Gotta go. Goodnight May 21 03:56:28 would the BBB be overburdened by recording video while performing other tasks? May 21 09:08:29 can anyone link to install instructions for beagleboard rev D? May 21 09:09:54 https://google.com/search?q=beagle+install+instructions May 21 09:13:58 from my question you would think i haven't looked at all, but I have, thus the question. however, I will dig some more. May 21 09:14:24 it might help if you mentioned what you were trying to install May 21 09:20:25 i loaded default beagleboard.org deb 9.5 img on the board via dd to sd card. May 21 09:20:52 unable to boot successfully. May 21 09:21:10 rs232 has garbled text and appears to loop. May 21 09:21:26 i wondered if perhaps the install process wasn't as simple as dd'ing an img May 21 09:21:39 can you share that console output? May 21 09:21:48 yes give me a minute May 21 09:21:56 DO NOT PASTE IN CHANNEL May 21 09:37:27 https://paste.debian.net/hidden/962c9084 May 21 09:38:34 i did read that garbled serial may be due to power May 21 09:38:59 bad power supply can cause any kind of malfunction May 21 09:39:49 what's with the ubifs stuff? May 21 09:39:55 doesn't the beagle have emmc? May 21 11:29:25 m May 21 11:36:23 I just want to ask some thing that might be rude. May 21 11:36:32 What is the current situation of Beaglebone. May 21 11:37:16 After having researched for several days, I just found that a lot of tutorials are from years before, I somehow it is not working on my current chip/linux version. May 21 11:37:38 A concrete example is config-pin. Where is the default config-pin command coming from? May 21 11:37:52 When I'm doing `config-pin`, it outputs: May 21 11:37:54 ``` May 21 11:38:11 config-pin -h May 21 11:38:28 No explanation at all :-( May 21 11:42:45 Correct me if I'm wrong, it somehow gives me an impression that the tools and the eco-system is somehow abandoned. May 21 13:50:10 Watermelon: it runs mainline linux just fine, what more do you expect? May 21 13:51:20 I'm a little bit desperate because I can't find documentation for some topics, thus I feel inability to solve the problem by myself. May 21 13:51:43 E.g. is there any explanation why ocb...P9_31 is not existing? May 21 13:53:15 ocb? May 21 13:54:32 Sorry probably remembered it incorrectly, I'll try to do it once more. May 21 13:58:22 ~$ config-pin -q P9_31 May 21 13:58:54 what package provides the config-pin command? May 21 13:59:19 That was actually my first question. May 21 13:59:23 And I've figured it out. May 21 13:59:28 $ which config-pin May 21 13:59:46 $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/config-pin May 21 13:59:53 bb-cape-overlays May 21 14:02:17 The information that I need is actually not the answer to a specific problem. But rather, which category do all these things belongs to? Linux Device management? Or something BBB specific? And where can I find documentation for these details? Or at least I need a keyword for googling. Now what I can do is only copy paste error message. I feel very May 21 14:02:17 passive in this loop. May 21 14:03:02 bb-cape-overlays definitely sounds beagle-specific May 21 14:04:23 Ok, but then there is no documentation for what does it do under the hood. And how does it related to the `/sys/devices/platform/ocp`. May 21 14:05:22 I guess it's a script that pokes around in sysfs to do whatever it does May 21 14:06:05 Ok, is sysfs a general topic? Or it's rather chip or board specific? May 21 14:06:15 both May 21 14:06:41 Ok, so I guess it's a specific, and board or chip has implemented it? May 21 14:06:51 specification ** May 21 14:07:22 there's an overall structure that all drivers should follow May 21 14:07:35 but some specifics depend on individual drivers May 21 14:07:47 see here for some sysfs docs: https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/ABI/ May 21 14:09:15 also here: https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/admin-guide/sysfs-rules.rst May 21 14:10:15 Ok, now I do feel that I'm coming a little bit closer. May 21 14:22:42 you can also poke around in sysfs manually using ls and cat May 21 14:24:39 I've tried out with GPIOs and it works. May 21 14:24:50 But some of the GPIOs, like P9_31, doesn't work. May 21 14:25:02 On BBB I mean. May 21 14:25:16 maybe it's already in use by something May 21 14:26:03 Probably, but how can I find that out? May 21 14:27:22 look in /sys/kernel/debug/gpio May 21 14:28:40 try my show-pins utility: https://github.com/mvduin/bbb-pin-utils/#show-pins May 21 14:29:33 if a pin is not reconfigurable it'll show what it's in use by May 21 14:29:39 ` gpio-110 (MCASP0_ACLKX |P9_31 ) in lo` May 21 14:29:50 ` gpio-110 (MCASP0_ACLKX |P9_31) in lo` May 21 14:30:04 it's probably not muxed to gpio May 21 14:30:10 so that information isn't useful May 21 14:30:21 it's probably in use by hdmi-audio May 21 14:31:17 I'll checkout your show-pins May 21 14:31:20 my show-pins utility gathers a bunch of data from /sys/kernel/debug and presents it in a readable fashion May 21 14:31:31 Ah, just wanted to ask. May 21 14:35:03 I also have a pins spreadsheet: https://goo.gl/Jkcg0w and the P9 and P8 tabs give a concise but detailed overview of pin functionality and usage notes May 21 14:35:44 I really hope this information could be more "visible". May 21 14:36:08 I mean this kind of charts are very important imo. May 21 14:36:48 there are lots of pin charts out there... though none as awesome as mine ;) May 21 14:37:23 I totally agree. May 21 14:37:59 anyway, bbl May 21 14:37:59 Most of them don't even have the r30 register maping. It takes me a long time to figure out there is only several pins which can be used by PRUs. May 21 14:38:31 mine does! :) and there's also a separate tab for PRU May 21 14:38:32 anyway, bbl May 21 15:00:16 I'm curious how did you know that which pins are used by which devices? May 21 18:57:07 Watermelon: what do you mean? May 21 18:59:02 did you mean how my tool knows which pin is used by which device? because that comes from /sys/kernel/debug/pinctrl May 21 18:59:47 or how I knew P9.31 is in use by hdmi audio? because.. I just know that somewhere around there are four pins used by hdmi audio, and I quickly checked my spreadsheet to confirm P9.31 is one of them May 22 01:10:00 B0ne is back May 22 01:10:04 Question for the gallary May 22 01:10:31 if I am using a MAX3232 do I still need a level shifter May 22 01:11:39 no since the max3232 can be powered at 3.3V May 22 01:13:34 (in which case its "receiver out" and "driver in" pins that connect to the BBB use 3.3V logic levels) May 22 01:13:57 so, provided you power it from the beaglebone's 3.3V supply, you do not need a level shifter May 22 02:43:40 Zmatt - I was going through my old libaries and came across this program called ws_watch. It is a program that runs on Windows. You set it up to monitor different IP address like hubs, routers, servers it has a nice but dated GUI. Easy to setup. I got it back in 1995 and it still runs on Windows-10. When started it will draw a map of what you are May 22 02:43:40 monitoring. If a site fails to respond after 4 attepmts that site is turned red and a aubible alarm is setoff. Thatmcan be stopped by clicking on the quiet button.. May 22 02:46:08 If the failed site comes back up a different sound is played. I tried it here monitoring my wifi, building gatewat, Comcast gatewat, Concast business net and google and 8.8.8.8 May 22 02:47:11 If interested I coud zip it up and put it on me github site. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Fri May 22 02:59:57 2020
