**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Aug 13 03:00:01 2018 Aug 13 05:46:36 hmm, 4.19 seems to have a lot of cool stuff for x20 /mt 6797 :) https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Linux-4.19-ARM-Early Aug 13 06:59:53 Neat. Does that affect the x25/x27 then? Aug 13 08:51:07 it should, x25/x27 are based directly on x20 Aug 13 08:52:04 not saying things wrk out of the box, but I do hope it makes the road *significantly* shorter **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Aug 13 17:38:57 2018 Aug 13 20:21:14 Hi. Trying to install rooted android & debian on my gemini, via linux. Got the flash tool installed alright, but the readback isn't working. IT's been a while since I did any firmware updates on an android device, but I vaguely remember having to boot into a recovery mode via holding buttons down during boot; I can't see anything in the instructions about this. Any pointers please? Aug 13 20:30:27 DuncanT I remember having the same issue and I can't remember now what the solution was. I think maybe you just power off and plug the USB cable in and then do it. Or maybe it was power on with the cable in. As far as I remember there wasn't a magic key combo Aug 13 20:31:04 munchausen: Thanks, I'll try playing with power cycles Aug 13 20:31:16 Also it probably does matter which USB socket you use on the gemini, and I can't remember that now either Aug 13 20:31:48 Sorry I couldn't be more specfic! Aug 13 20:33:05 Sorted, left hand socket and powercycling while plugging in and the tool running seems to have done the job Aug 13 20:33:18 YOur suggestion was just what I needed, thanks Aug 13 20:51:53 New flash installed. Now to see if the root worked... Aug 13 20:55:57 Ok, there's an su in termux now but it gives 'Permission Denied'. Any pointers please? Aug 13 20:57:21 you need su in termux for what? I am doing all I want in termux without it.... Aug 13 21:00:03 Kero: Poking /proc and /sys, installing kernel modules Aug 13 21:00:36 Kero: I just booted to debian and have root there, but I like android for most jobs Aug 13 21:13:21 ah, I haven't rooted android, yet. haven't fuond proper instructions to do so. Aug 13 21:13:38 magisk stuff == terribly unclear. Aug 13 21:15:54 Kero: Yeah, this is my first attempt. I've gotten Debian on it, which lets me get at the info I really want for now, but the user experience is utterly terrible. I'll give sailfish a go later, while I've nothing important in progress Aug 13 21:16:41 Kero: I really want to get my own kernel modules working though, since there are at least 2 serial buses in the lid - I should be able to rid an external display :-) Aug 13 21:32:51 got debian running with self-compiled kernel. Aug 13 21:33:43 curious what buses you mean? Aug 13 21:36:09 There's a serial bus (intended for debugging I think) on two test pins, and another serial bus on the camera connector Aug 13 21:36:24 I'm guessing either will be fine for a simple external screen **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Aug 14 03:00:01 2018
