**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Oct 06 02:59:57 2019 Oct 06 10:08:44 Hi! I've just started playing with kali on the Gemini PDA and I would like to use the keyboard map at https://github.com/gemian/xkeyboard-config/blob/stretch/symbols/planet_vndr/gemini but it's not clear how to do that. I've just tried upgrading the kbd-data package to 2.23.1+gemian+0~20190223133958.37~1.gbp64c6c0 but I see no entry "Gemini German" in the lxde keyboard configuration dialog, or a variant Oct 06 10:08:46 thereof. Wrong package, wrong tool? Do I need to try with setxkbmap? Oct 06 10:11:08 Woops, problem solved. Apparently I need to do `setxkbmap de "Gemini german"`. Wohoo! Oct 06 10:12:45 Hm, now cursor keys for history in qterminal have stopped working... But I got the correct bindings for ?, *, Umlauts, etc. Oct 06 11:07:23 I accidentally upgraded libc6 while (stupidly) trying to install xwayland because I wrongly assumed I would need it for running emacs. ssh 10.15.19.82 over usb and debian snapshots helped with those problems. Oct 06 11:07:25 So it looks like gemian and/or whatever kali for gemini packages is not quite current with libc6, correct? Oct 06 11:39:32 TauPan, I think Kali need to rebuild their Gemini-specific packages Oct 06 11:40:45 as for keyboard, normally you just set Gemini PDA as your device vendor and then normal de layout should work Oct 06 11:42:40 That did not work on kali, maybe the configuration is different than normally on gemian. Oct 06 11:44:27 So would you recommend the debian images from planet for a smoother experience? I don't really have a need for kali as I'm not a security researcher or something (although I do work in the field). I was mostly curious ;) Oct 06 11:46:50 (Hm, and something hangs when I log out from X, so I can't log in... can't figure out which process that might be so reboot was the only option so far.) Oct 06 11:47:02 log *back* in Oct 06 11:52:18 Uhm... it looks like I need to switch to debian... whatever package I update, it's going to pull in an incompatible libc6 :-\ Oct 06 11:53:36 https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/509668/kali-linux-on-gemini-pda-vim-error-when-apt-get-upgrade Oct 06 11:54:46 Debian images from Planet are based on stretch from https://github.com/gemian/gemian-multistrap-config, so it should be more stable, but old Oct 06 12:04:54 Ah... apparently old news https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=35868 ... any alternatives? Oct 06 12:38:13 * TauPan tries to switch to TP3. Oct 06 14:00:43 TheKit: What's the state of https://github.com/NotKit/kernel-4.9-geminipda ? Oct 06 14:01:15 I didn't make any further progress with that Oct 06 14:01:43 Ok, thanks Oct 06 14:01:46 currently Adam Boardman is attempting to implement HW support in mainline instead Oct 06 14:01:57 Yeah I've seen that effort :) Oct 06 16:14:28 TheKit: Now on debian I see "German" and "Gemini german" as variant at the sddm login screen, but they're not available in the configuration dialog after being logged in. But I'm going to switch to qtile if I can manage it, so I'll need to put some calls to setxkbmap and maybe xmodmap into my .xsession anyways. Oct 06 21:38:19 TauPan, what is device model selected in configuration dialog? Oct 06 21:39:13 The keyboard model is listed as Planet Gemini PDA keyboard or so. Oct 06 21:40:02 just choosing German doesn't work then? Oct 06 21:43:26 If I pick "German" in the sddm login screen I basically get the same layout as in android. If I pick german in the lxqt configuration dialog I get something that feels more like a full 104 keys german keyboard, but without so much keys. e.g. I have ä on the question mark (which is next to the enter key on the gemini german keyboard, where the ä key normally is located on a german layout). Oct 06 21:47:34 setxkbmap "de" "Gemini german" has the same effect as choosing German in the sddm screen Oct 06 22:01:41 Also it does auto-switch as documented, so I guess everything is ok. The Debian TP3 wiki page documents that, only the kali documentation states that you should use the lxqt tool. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Oct 07 02:59:57 2019
