**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed Feb 19 02:59:57 2020 Feb 19 13:34:22 I wonder if I should ask Planet for a guide Feb 19 13:36:36 this is the intimidating object in question: https://imgur.com/a/XeDhsj4 Feb 19 13:37:41 I'm optimistic that this keyboard is better than the original - it feels nicer and much more uniform Feb 19 13:41:33 so what was wrong with your keyboard? my fiancée's keyboard has a bit worse key '3', but otherwise seems fine. Feb 19 13:45:59 key activation force varied wildly, and some keys - notably 'e' - would not register if struck from the wrong angle Feb 19 13:46:42 tolerable for short periods, but highly frustrating if you wanted to touch type something long on it Feb 19 13:47:04 I spent a lot of time going back over sentences and correcting errors Feb 19 13:47:18 turns out 'e' is quite a common letter Feb 19 13:51:23 simply workaround writing it, I'm sure it's possible for short paragraphs and combinations of. you just gotta think quick. Feb 19 13:51:57 (not to mention I totally failed, I must have forgotten the goal in the middle) Feb 19 13:52:35 hahaha good effort Feb 19 13:52:44 it's akin to writing finnish without using ä or ö in a pinch. but it seems 'e' is indeed quite a tricky letter in english, probably easier to write a sentence with all words having the letter :/. Feb 19 13:53:01 etaoinshrdlu Feb 19 13:53:30 ^(english letters ordered by frequency, if you weren't aware) Feb 19 15:25:51 dTal: So if you remove the back can you get access to all 22 screws? Feb 19 16:29:56 Steve-Goodey: no, as you can see many of the screws are on the left and right edges - these regions are covered by the end caps of the Cosmo, which I don't know how to remove Feb 19 18:24:16 it's weird writing finnish with cosmo as i need to use fn+ö to get ä Feb 19 18:27:33 is there some fix for phone calls and cosmo registering touch with one's cheek? Feb 19 18:42:22 update: the replacement keyboard is, in fact, essentially the entire bottom half os a cosmo Feb 19 18:42:43 if you've ever disassembled a laptop, picture than, but in miniature Feb 19 18:42:47 *that Feb 19 18:43:18 I've successfully disassembled everything except the final lynchpin, the hinge rod Feb 19 18:43:26 no idea how to get it out Feb 19 18:46:30 ah no there's two! Feb 19 18:46:54 left and right, plus a center one which is screwed down with a seperate piece I've already unscrewed Feb 19 18:47:00 so I have to *pull* Feb 19 18:49:03 success Feb 19 18:50:09 yes! it's off! Feb 19 18:50:12 now to reverse Feb 19 18:50:26 wish I had a camera, but it's the cosmo Feb 19 19:13:19 dTal: Well done. Worth a writeup on the forum when you're done? Feb 19 19:15:04 awesome, it's back together Feb 19 19:15:13 if only I'd had a camera Feb 19 19:16:04 YES Feb 19 19:16:08 this keyboard works Feb 19 19:16:22 this is the best thing ever Feb 19 19:17:08 Steve-Goodey: I can try from memory, although I'm afraid I'd miss some steps Feb 19 19:25:37 dTal: Excellent. Good that you nailed it. Feb 19 19:26:12 Cheers man. Feb 19 19:28:02 Just had a horrible thought - there's a MEMS mic on each end, and there's a tiny silicone duct for each one - they fall out easily. Each duct has a sound channel that exits the side. It's possible to put them in upside down. If you do you'll get muffled sound. Suddenly doubting I put them in the right way. Feb 19 19:29:13 Ah well. Feb 19 20:06:24 Okay, I've written my writeup. Now waiting for my forum membership approval... Feb 19 20:24:23 Wow. This new keyboard is wayyyyy better. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu Feb 20 02:59:57 2020
