Apr 30 06:45:33 did they vibrate in resonance? Apr 30 06:46:07 did we get the same alarm reminder :P Apr 30 06:46:18 mece, okay, thx Apr 30 06:49:00 Knightstalker, you need extras-testing enabled though. Apr 30 06:49:19 k Apr 30 06:49:51 hoareyou Apr 30 06:49:55 ~whoareyou Apr 30 06:50:05 ~who Apr 30 06:50:35 Knightstalker, The latest version, in extras-devel will need pr1.2. Or you could download source from devel, change deps from libqt4-core to libqt4-maemo5-core in the control file, build deb and install on device. Apr 30 06:51:40 Well,I just gavfe an example on something which doesn't work because of qt :p Apr 30 06:51:43 gave* Apr 30 06:51:52 I thought there might be easier steps Apr 30 06:52:35 anyways, how good do phototranslator work? Apr 30 06:53:03 brb Apr 30 06:54:23 KnightStalker, yeah, sorry about that qtirreco mess. qt4.6 version shouldn't been uploaded to repositories Apr 30 06:54:42 zokier, you're the maintainer? Apr 30 06:55:08 mece, i try not to be, but i'm involved, yes Apr 30 06:55:14 is uploading things to repos a one way street? Apr 30 06:55:29 tybollt, well you can always replace the stuff you just uploaded. Apr 30 06:55:31 there is no way of taking down a faulty (or as in this case - not ready to be released) pkg? Apr 30 06:56:00 mece: heh I guess Apr 30 06:56:24 * tybollt guess zokier can do that then Apr 30 06:56:34 zokier, any chance you could make a temporary version that depends on libqt4-maemo5-* instead of libqt4-* until we get pr-12? Apr 30 06:56:54 zokier, all you really need is replace the deps in control, I believe. Apr 30 06:58:03 i don't have access to repository yet, but i'll forward that request to the actual maintainers Apr 30 06:58:14 zokier, ok, thanks. Apr 30 06:58:31 in the meantime, I could actually build from source one and put it on my own server if people really need it. Apr 30 06:59:22 if I remembered to close my session at home. My buildbox is in x86 mode, and I can't switch unless I close the previous sessions. Apr 30 07:00:01 mece: kill your friend Apr 30 07:00:12 hey has anyone written a howto yet for creating a python package on the sdk? Apr 30 07:00:27 sejo, no, but I can tell you. Apr 30 07:00:27 trying to find one but none explain the process completely Apr 30 07:00:42 sejo, using pypackager. Apr 30 07:00:54 pypackager cool I'll google it Apr 30 07:01:03 it's in the repos. Apr 30 07:01:21 great! Apr 30 07:01:24 thx! Apr 30 07:01:32 sejo, I can tell you how to build the package if you want. Apr 30 07:02:54 mece found this http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=74887&postcount=6 Apr 30 07:04:00 sejo, yep. you also need to make the actual script. I'll look up a sample for you. Apr 30 07:04:49 thx mece! Apr 30 07:08:32 sejo, http://pastebin.com/WPxLzaKc Apr 30 07:08:48 sejo modify that to match your program Apr 30 07:09:41 ~thx checking it now! Apr 30 07:09:43 then you create the whole tree under src/ with all the files in the right places. Including .desktop files and whatnot. Apr 30 07:10:14 if you need optification through symlinking, you can make symlinks in debian/postinst file. Apr 30 07:11:02 ach cool Apr 30 07:11:21 need to vrite a generation script first that will move them correctly Apr 30 07:11:47 sejo, well that's what the script I posted does. Apr 30 07:11:58 it creates the debian/rules and control Apr 30 07:12:12 also I have some modules it needs should I first install it with a setup.py? or set my pythonpath in the bin? Apr 30 07:12:24 sejo, and in that script it moves the file to their correct places, following the pattern showed in the tree under src/ Apr 30 07:12:55 sejo, hmm.. if they are small you can just install them into the correct place. Apr 30 07:12:57 ok thx Apr 30 07:13:08 let's test :p Apr 30 07:13:16 sejo, :) Apr 30 07:13:48 sejo, if you want the debian files visible, just unpack the tar the script creates, and you can modify them manually. Apr 30 07:14:25 sejo, you can do this on the device btw. you don't need a computer. Apr 30 07:15:02 cool i'll be doing it in the sdk probably Apr 30 07:15:11 sejo, perhaps safer at first :) Apr 30 07:15:13 logging off from work for the last time Apr 30 07:15:13 bye Apr 30 07:16:28 sejo, I have a clone of my git repos on the device, so I can update packages to extras-devel while on the move :) Only python stuff though. I don't have compilers on the device. Apr 30 07:16:44 mece: that is actually a good idea Apr 30 07:16:53 sejo, git ftw! Apr 30 07:17:02 just created a new repo only for the maemo app and moving the suff according Apr 30 07:17:09 all you need is git-core and pypackager Apr 30 07:17:09 yeah I'm a git lover also Apr 30 07:19:16 sejo, cloning my first git repo to the device was one of those "Holy fuck this is awesome!" moment's with the N900 :) Apr 30 07:20:09 s/fuck/frak Apr 30 07:20:30 ~curse infobot Apr 30 07:20:32 May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your most sensitive regions, infobot ! Apr 30 07:20:32 mece with me it was the native irssi! Apr 30 07:20:47 lol Apr 30 07:21:16 sejo :) heh, Irssi was the first program I compiled for the N900. It wasn't in the repos yet then. Apr 30 07:24:47 thank you for that mece! Apr 30 07:24:52 used it a lot already! Apr 30 07:26:34 sejo, well I didn't compile that one. I just compiled and installed for myself :P Someone else upped to the repos. Apr 30 07:30:46 hehe Apr 30 07:31:09 morning Apr 30 07:35:36 mece: can I put a svg logo in the packager script? Apr 30 07:36:47 sejo.. umm. I dont think so. not sure. Try it. Apr 30 07:37:07 I don't know if you can create xpm from svg with that script Apr 30 07:37:27 well I can test :p Apr 30 07:43:34 mece: pypackager only in extras-devel? Apr 30 07:43:47 sejo, I think so. It's for developing ;) Apr 30 07:44:25 mece: hmm my sdk install doesn't find it Apr 30 07:44:27 * sejo debugs Apr 30 07:44:44 sejo, add devel to /etc/apt/sources.list Apr 30 07:47:14 Morning, all Apr 30 07:47:41 mece I added deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/ fremantle free non-free Apr 30 07:47:48 hey Jaffa Apr 30 07:53:00 sejo, that should do it. Apr 30 07:53:48 apt-cache search pypackager Apr 30 07:53:52 shows nothing :/ Apr 30 07:54:21 did you apt-get update Apr 30 07:54:35 yes Apr 30 07:55:50 sejo, switch to arm target Apr 30 07:55:54 k Apr 30 07:55:58 appears it's only arm: http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel/pool/fremantle/free/p/pypackager/ Apr 30 07:56:23 it should work on both though.. Apr 30 10:15:28 do any one know? Apr 30 10:15:46 th3hate: i think that most apps/games have either seperate language files or the language is coded in the sourcecode of it Apr 30 10:16:06 morning Apr 30 10:16:27 morning =) Apr 30 10:16:43 localization is pretty important in games.. Apr 30 10:17:26 morning lardman Apr 30 10:17:33 stskeeps <3 Apr 30 10:17:37 youngsters are often main target group for them and their language knowledge is pretty limited often Apr 30 10:17:43 hey Stskeeps, KnightStalker Apr 30 10:17:50 * Stskeeps glares at KnightStalker Apr 30 10:18:16 dare I ask is pr1.2 is out yet? ;) Apr 30 10:18:18 * KnightStalker slaps Stskeeps with his last question,I am mean, amn't I? :P Apr 30 10:18:52 what question? :P Apr 30 10:19:26 "when I downloaded my TV controler,it seemed that it is on a building mode or something, how to use the controler?" Apr 30 10:19:32 i have no idea what that is, sorry Apr 30 10:20:01 no problem ^_^ Apr 30 10:20:13 I meant qtirreco anyway Apr 30 10:22:26 Irreco is a mess =( Apr 30 10:22:48 qtirreco is a mess, old irreco atleast seems to be bit better Apr 30 10:23:03 :o Apr 30 10:23:04 Surfa: Judging from the sample of youngsters available to me, they do not give a shit about localization Apr 30 10:23:42 I do, fewer "z"s thanks! ;) Apr 30 10:23:53 KnightStalker, if you are in "edit mode" use "save remote" menu item to return to "normal mode". if you are in normal mode, then the remote *should* be ready to use Apr 30 10:23:57 not sure I qualify as young mind you Apr 30 10:23:58 Surfa: Their native reading skills are not that extensive to begin with (1) and they mainly learn game stuff by trial and error anyway (2) Apr 30 10:25:35 RST38bis, show me a sample person that plays japanese language game with pleasure Apr 30 10:25:37 * RST38bis suspects that the main market for localization is elderly women at secretarial/accounting jobs Apr 30 10:25:52 * RST38bis points Surfa toward himself Apr 30 10:26:02 Works for me, Surfa. Apr 30 10:26:11 i can tell you that it's not typical way that people behave Apr 30 10:26:16 i've seen plenty of user studies Apr 30 10:26:33 Ok, so I am a nutcase and have not seen a plenty of studies. Tell me something new :) Apr 30 10:26:48 localization is very important thing on many markets, also on other applications than games Apr 30 10:26:57 im trying to do it Apr 30 10:26:57 ~curse HAM for being veeerrryyy slow Apr 30 10:26:59 see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=634774#post634774 Apr 30 10:26:59 May you be reincarnated as a Windows XP administrator, HAM for being veeerrryyy slow ! Apr 30 10:28:11 RST38bis, no need to be so offending, that's just typical that people think that other people do things as they do.. that's why user studies are needed for some things Apr 30 10:28:39 cultural and lanuage barriers are no fake problem in global industry Apr 30 10:30:12 * RST38bis politely informs Surfa that he is (1) bilingual and (2) expat in a non-english speaking country Apr 30 10:30:54 And no, I have not yet seen any widespread problems with English UIs here, outside of the above category Apr 30 10:30:55 RST38bis, i can't see relation to this discussion.. please explain more Apr 30 10:31:12 where is that? Apr 30 10:32:08 it doesn't mean that there are problems, but it certainly slows down adoption speed within natives Apr 30 10:32:14 Surfa: I have been hinting that yes, I see enough users and usage scenarios to have my own statistics Apr 30 10:32:35 and still you think that english ui is enough for most people? Apr 30 10:32:39 Surfa: And my statistics clearly show that almost nobody gives a damn Apr 30 10:32:54 Surfa: Yes, that is exactly what I think Apr 30 10:33:24 and studies are about people who already use those things? because otherwise those studies don't make much sense Apr 30 10:33:40 there's a reason for localisation to be the one and only top priority for most UIs Apr 30 10:33:44 Localization may be somewhat useful, but it definitely isn't worth the effort it normally takes. Apr 30 10:33:47 for younger people who haven't learned a lot of english yet, people that don't learn that much english at all (it happens) and older people (my mum's age), english wouldn't cut it Apr 30 10:33:49 and your stats don't disprove didly squat Apr 30 10:34:08 RST38bis, depends on what countries you're acting on Apr 30 10:34:32 you just can't play with english only uis on developing countries Apr 30 10:34:39 Surfa: Pretty much any country. Your typical UI requires knowledge of a dozen English words Apr 30 10:34:51 spain exclusively uses spanish UIs, same for France, Italy a tiny bit less, but mostly, Belgium, Holland, Germany, etc Apr 30 10:34:57 and those aren't developing country Apr 30 10:35:07 s/try/tries/ Apr 30 10:35:08 crashanddie meant: and those aren't developing countries Apr 30 10:35:16 crashanddie, in developing countries things are even worse on that Apr 30 10:35:22 Surfa: Any person unable to learn a dozen combinations of letters can't read his own language , most likely Apr 30 10:35:42 RST38bis, localization is not limited to textual output you know? Apr 30 10:35:45 RST38bis: with all due respect, I think you're talking biased bullshit Apr 30 10:36:10 I am always talking biased bullshit, crash. Haven't you noticed? :) Apr 30 10:36:23 sure, just felt necessary to point it out this time round Apr 30 10:36:33 (everyone talks biased bull) Apr 30 10:36:49 Except that mine usually checks well again reality Apr 30 10:36:57 not in this case Apr 30 10:36:57 Or at least the part of reality I get to observe Apr 30 10:37:04 seriously, where are you now? Apr 30 10:37:24 <`0660> in a mushroom land? :) Apr 30 10:37:33 `0660, my guess exactly :D Apr 30 10:37:48 crash: Russia. Non-English speaking country. Non-Roman alphabet. Very few people care if the UI is in Russian or not. Apr 30 10:38:15 localization/i18n is kinda nice, but translations are usually just horrible Apr 30 10:38:43 RST38bis: I don't know what circles you play with, but when I was in the Ukraine and Russia, even in highly technical outlets, I only had russian keyboards, and russian UIs Apr 30 10:38:43 The documentation better be written in Russian of course, but that is different from the UI. Apr 30 10:38:55 I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find me ranting about this on this very channel in the logs Apr 30 10:39:06 crashanddie: How long have you been here? Apr 30 10:39:11 i'm in finland and every piece of software i use is in english, both at work and at home. Apr 30 10:39:23 RST38bis: I spent in total 2 months in the Ukraine, and about 3-4 weeks in Russia Apr 30 10:39:42 zokier, well, finland and netherlands are completely different world, they are more english speaking countries than uk in most cases ;) Apr 30 10:39:44 <`0660> zokier, that is only because you work in it? :) Apr 30 10:40:12 i've met englishmen that think that most finns speak better english than they do Apr 30 10:40:16 <`0660> it->IT Apr 30 10:40:27 zokier: that's because finnish is a fucked language Apr 30 10:40:29 Surfa: except for their bloody horrendous accent Apr 30 10:40:30 `0660, probably, yes Apr 30 10:40:32 finnish-ugrian Apr 30 10:40:45 it's only got hungary in the same language group IIRC Apr 30 10:40:48 zokier: Sweden is an exception I have to admit, northern Europe is very English friendly Apr 30 10:40:53 crashanddie, depends on a finn too, some don't have accent almost at all Apr 30 10:41:05 crashanddie: huh? How is sweden an exception? Apr 30 10:41:07 Surfa: how come 100% of Nokia have horrendous accents then? Apr 30 10:41:11 noobmonk3y: can you reproduce it? Apr 30 10:41:29 crashanddie, not really 100% Apr 30 10:41:36 maybe 90% Apr 30 10:41:38 tybollt: sweden is an exception in the way that you guys are very English friendly? Apr 30 10:41:58 Surfa: ok, Ari has an OK accent when he wants Apr 30 10:42:02 crashanddie: because finnish is in the wrong language group. The only two languages (IIRC) in this language group finnish-ugrian is finnish and hungarian Apr 30 10:42:17 tybollt: you lost me Apr 30 10:42:29 oh, finnish, k Apr 30 10:42:30 crashanddie: yes, yes we are :) Apr 30 10:42:35 crashanddie: you in La France now? Apr 30 10:42:36 crashanddie: gotcha Apr 30 10:42:37 crashanddie, many people have relatively junnoticeable accent when they don't have too much feelings going on Apr 30 10:42:48 everyone can speak english in .se Apr 30 10:42:55 _everyone_ Apr 30 10:42:56 crashanddie: Isn't that kinda short? Apr 30 10:43:00 tybollt, that's not true :) really Apr 30 10:43:11 Surfa: ask any northern european to say "Junior", and all of them will say "you-nior" Apr 30 10:43:17 lardman: pas encore Apr 30 10:43:20 take a farmer in south sweden and speak english to him Apr 30 10:43:34 lardman: taking off tomorrow around lunch, landing on Sunday 3PM Apr 30 10:43:44 cool, have a good trip Apr 30 10:43:56 have a 6 hours standstill in London Apr 30 10:43:58 crashanddie, if some words make accent horrible for you, then agreed.. some words are just impossible to pronounce correctly for a finn Apr 30 10:44:03 take a farmer in south sweden and try to speak swedish to him Apr 30 10:44:09 not like in finland where you get a "MITÄÄÄÄÄÄ?" if you even mention english ;) Apr 30 10:44:13 won't understand anything with the skÃ¥ne accent Apr 30 10:44:16 or something Apr 30 10:44:18 :) Apr 30 10:44:26 tybollt, that's ridiculous you know and has nothing to do with real deal Apr 30 10:44:46 most of germand can speak even german in finland and they manage very well, and english is much easier Apr 30 10:45:02 I may be exagerating slightly ;) Apr 30 10:45:05 that's because most germans' english sucks donkey balls Apr 30 10:45:09 slightly right.. :) Apr 30 10:45:22 frals: it looks like the vodafone apn settings that worked previously on the wiki do not work now, gonna try n figure out why - does take a good few minutes before it errors out though Apr 30 10:45:44 only generation Y is saving the day in Germany, generation X and B have very poor English skills Apr 30 10:46:10 noobmonk3y: i saw someone complain about it in the thread today as well Apr 30 10:46:16 tybollt, i'd say take any <40years old finn and you do just fine with english, if he/she just wants to language skills won't be a problem Apr 30 10:46:24 ahhh complaints, gotta love em ;) Apr 30 10:46:27 crashanddie: with the international language of techno? Or it even charges on autonomous mode without system booted, which is indicated by steady yellow light Apr 30 16:19:47 yellow steady means probably very low charging current, so it might take some hours until bat has recovered Apr 30 16:20:15 thanks, it's now on yellow without nokia logo Apr 30 16:20:15 Reaby: just leave it charging for a night Apr 30 16:20:33 yes, that's hw-charger only Apr 30 16:20:53 it's probably 500mA, maybe even as few as 100mA Apr 30 16:21:10 well i tried to boot it after powerdown with cable on... Apr 30 16:21:24 eventually the system might 'boot' unadvertedly and show yellow flashing and NOKIA Apr 30 16:21:30 so i think the battery is really low :) Apr 30 16:21:39 or you may need to unconnect and reconnect in a few hours Apr 30 16:21:59 bme basically f's up everything eh? :p Apr 30 16:22:14 yes, yellow steady is on *very* low battery Apr 30 16:22:36 (was referring to host mode too) Apr 30 16:22:38 MohammadAG: yellow sterady is bw24150 autonomous charge Apr 30 16:22:43 no bme involved Apr 30 16:22:49 sorry.. it's blinking, but no nokia logo, my bad Apr 30 16:22:58 oh so it's on Apr 30 16:23:01 bme is up :) Apr 30 16:23:26 DocScrutinizer, never got that yellow steady light, so no idea Apr 30 16:23:27 Reaby: blinking is very good, it means your system is well and charging Apr 30 16:23:40 DocScrutinizer: many thanks for answers Apr 30 16:23:45 oh wait, i actually got it while flashing once, but the bat was full Apr 30 16:23:46 yw Apr 30 16:24:04 i know this channel is the best source if something just went wrong :) Apr 30 16:25:11 good labours day - atleast at here finland! Apr 30 16:26:09 i leave the device to recover over night and try booting it tomorrow Apr 30 16:27:35 DocScrutinizer, did you solve everything regarding host mode? Apr 30 16:29:07 ( DocScrutinizer: the requester is probably triggered by it seeing 5V) yes, the usb-driver gets notified about 5V, and bme missed on the switch in bq24150 causing this 5V being endogene (probably a race). Also no short detected between D+/- which would indicate a charger, so it's assuming it's been plugged to a USB-host Apr 30 16:30:59 and what does all that mean lol Apr 30 16:31:08 you may trigger same faulty host detection by inserting the charger very slowly, as GND and VBUS contacts are a little bit longer than the data contacts, so make-first/break-last Apr 30 16:32:39 in short, host mode's working? (ignoring drivers and the like) Apr 30 16:32:48 the funny part about that is: obviously bme behaves passive while that menu is displayed Apr 30 16:33:05 MohammadAG: it always did, told ya Apr 30 16:33:36 and the only thing needed now is a kernel with host mode support? Apr 30 16:33:43 yep Apr 30 16:34:01 DocScrutinizer, why do I feel they left it in on purpose Apr 30 16:34:03 fixing the friggin messy musb_hdrc Apr 30 16:34:38 host mode that is Apr 30 16:34:49 and the schematics were leaked Apr 30 16:42:02 http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=635097#post635097 click thanks! Apr 30 17:51:29 well, let's call it the day hostmode-0.2 was put to work. I got a usb hub with a red power-LED and 4 green action LEDs for the 4 downstream ports. The cmdline 'killall -SIGSTOP bme_RX-51; ./i2cset -y -m 0x07 2 0x6b 0x01 0x05; sleep 10; killall -SIGCONT bme_RX-51' makes the red LED shine for 10 sec, and the moment BME starts again, it obviously talks to the hub chip so all the 4 green LED flash up for <0.5s, then VBUS is disabled. This clearly Apr 30 17:51:31 indicates to me BME or whatever friggin driver (musb_hdrc?) is *talking* to the hub, and that's hostmode basically. It just needs to stop talking gibberish, and act like a serious host -> driver is all that's missing Apr 30 17:52:03 ☣ Apr 30 17:56:25 Umm Apr 30 17:56:41 what happens on your hub if you just connect 5V - might that not do that? Apr 30 17:57:16 oh - on 'unplug' Apr 30 17:57:28 maybe as it falls out of regulation? Apr 30 18:03:45 guys i am facing a weird problem. My 3g data connection stops working after a minute. I thought it was a software problem. So i reflashed both rootfs/emmc. However, the problem still persists. Apr 30 18:03:57 i am on Three network in UK btw Apr 30 18:04:11 is there any way i can debug this? Apr 30 18:04:29 Try a different SIM? Apr 30 18:04:37 Works for me with t-mobile PAYG Apr 30 18:04:46 also - is it consistent? Apr 30 18:04:50 SpeedEvil: could it be a sim issue? Apr 30 18:04:57 I don't know. Apr 30 18:05:16 if i maintain a ping to google.com, then the connection doesnt break. Apr 30 18:05:24 I was more meaning if you swap the SIM out, you can completely eliminate thee fact that it's to do with 3s network if it works Apr 30 18:05:37 what do you mean by '3g data connection' Apr 30 18:05:53 SpeedEvil: 3g internet Apr 30 18:06:06 I mean - what are you doing? Apr 30 18:06:17 Does it break igf you just browse stuff? Apr 30 18:06:21 And does it reconnect? Apr 30 18:06:28 SpeedEvil: Using the browser/Voip accounts all go offline Apr 30 18:06:41 after a minute or so. Apr 30 18:06:45 oh seems meego will be worse for qa testing and repositories Apr 30 18:06:49 odd. Works for me. Apr 30 18:06:59 In general MeeGo doesn't accept patches - <<< nice too Apr 30 18:07:01 I've not seen anyone else with the problem. Apr 30 18:07:02 lol Apr 30 18:07:05 However, if i maintain a ping to google.com in a terminal, then the phone doesnt break connection Apr 30 18:07:33 It seems like i need to keep on banging pings to the network to maintain connection Apr 30 18:07:35 Khertan: isn't the policy to go upstream with patches? Apr 30 18:07:41 trumee: It sounds like a network issue, though I'm far from sure how these things are configured on the network side Apr 30 18:07:53 Not accepting patches can be a good thing. I had this problem only affect me since past two days, previously it was working fine Apr 30 18:34:22 Is possible to use all rootfs memory by copying a file to a directory that doesn't exist while root? Apr 30 18:36:13 copying a file to a dir the doesn't exist creates a copy of the file with the name of the target dir Apr 30 18:37:00 yep, but doing it just bricked my n900 -.-' Apr 30 18:37:14 all rootfs space was consumed... Apr 30 18:39:23 is there a good getting started for qt development with the maemo sdk. the getting started flash video is basically like "qt lets you develop cross platform .... but we dont talk about it here" Apr 30 18:45:05 Wou this channel really active.... Apr 30 18:45:15 lol ... sigh ... the sdk video is ridiculous. yeah... setup scratchbox.... then .. setup a the maemo sdk ... then... setup a sudo xserver .. then .. configure the xserver to forward.. then start scratchbox... then launch the maemo gui ..... Apr 30 18:57:30 is there any full ping available? ping from busybox doesnt support -i (timed pings) Apr 30 18:57:52 i think i will have to resort to running timed ping on three network to keep connected to 3g Apr 30 18:58:35 The N900 shows that it is connected via 3G data. But ping dont work and 3G stops going to 3.5G Apr 30 18:59:56 funny thing is that if i connect in 2.5g it work perfect Apr 30 19:00:41 nobody understands connection manager in N900? Apr 30 19:02:35 guys, is it worth put a report in bugzilla? Apr 30 19:03:19 Has anybody looked into live wallpaper? Is it widget playing a video, .gif or how is it working? Apr 30 19:03:35 trumee, it sounds worth a bug report from what you describe, I would say yes Apr 30 19:03:56 kalikianatoli: ok. i will do it then. Apr 30 19:03:59 trumee: yes - it's worth it Apr 30 19:04:12 trumee: however. It can also be wackiness on the network side. Apr 30 19:04:19 Tuukka, its a desktop widget and can do whatever they can normally - it just exists behind the others at fullsize Apr 30 19:04:25 trumee: that is - on threes cell towers Apr 30 19:04:38 trumee: I don';t suppose you can easuily try it in anotehr location? Possibly the fremantle-tools one Apr 30 19:20:27 gevaerts: thanks Apr 30 19:20:52 Tuukka: of course it would. but change is not the same as improvement ;) Apr 30 19:21:13 kpel: yes, it's in there Apr 30 19:21:21 that isnt news. that is old women chatting over the laundry Apr 30 19:21:41 puphome_: that's how the amrkets work :( Apr 30 19:21:57 gevaerts: ok thanks. i'll probably find the details of that repo in amemo.org Apr 30 19:22:18 Maybe they'll replace him with a person with charisma. Apr 30 19:22:21 Or a personality. Apr 30 19:22:23 That would work too. Apr 30 19:22:42 I liked the Nokia N8 Apr 30 19:22:47 Ew Apr 30 19:23:05 maybe things will get better with the new phone. Capacitive screen ftw! Apr 30 19:23:19 FTF Apr 30 19:23:21 For the FAIL Apr 30 19:23:26 :) Apr 30 19:23:28 how come? Apr 30 19:23:40 GeneralAntilles: or without finglish? Apr 30 19:23:43 Capacitive at 260+ PPI makes for some dumbed-down UIs. Apr 30 19:23:46 SpeedEvil: ok, i have logged dbus. Apr 30 19:23:48 Stskeeps, that too. Apr 30 19:24:16 SpeedEvil: http://pastebin.com/NqvjtNrT Apr 30 19:24:35 GeneralAntilles: all i know is that the resistive screen on my N900 misses taps all the time. I gave N8 a try and I was impressed with the response. I could use fingertips insrtead of nails for a change. Apr 30 19:24:41 ymmv Apr 30 19:25:08 hi all ihave aquestions plz that there are programs written in python with extension .pyw////and some times with extension .py ///there are any diffrence ???? Apr 30 19:25:12 kpel: http://wiki.maemo.org/Documentation/devtools/maemo5#Installation Apr 30 19:25:30 i logged the dbus --system. anybody understand why my 3g data connection stops working, http://pastebin.com/NqvjtNrT Apr 30 19:25:38 gevaerts: excellent! thanks :) Apr 30 19:25:48 Nokia needs a decent os with good looks and few nice gimmicks Apr 30 19:25:59 Stskeeps: i guess you can help me out :) Apr 30 19:26:40 Tuukka: i don't know about the Os, but it certainly could use a good UI Apr 30 19:27:26 kpel, problem isn't tap recognition. Apr 30 19:27:35 kpel, problem is the shit for precision. Apr 30 19:27:55 yep symbian is too plain.. How do i reaply to messages while using the webchat on browser?? Apr 30 19:28:03 GeneralAntilles: precision is a problem too. specially when you try to scroll up/down with a hair-thin scrollbar Apr 30 19:28:17 kpel, it's not Maemo 4. Apr 30 19:28:36 * SpeedEvil wonders if the replacement will be chosen by Karma. Apr 30 19:28:38 true but it's not very usable either Apr 30 19:28:44 * SpeedEvil goes off to do lots of wiki editing. Apr 30 19:29:12 kpel, mmm . . . that's not subjective at all. Apr 30 19:29:16 e.g. the Profile settings have such a thin scrollbar that most of the time the tap goes to the volume sliders of the vrious sounds instead of the scrollbar Apr 30 19:29:37 GeneralAntilles: you are right. it isn't. i have examples. Apr 30 19:30:04 kpel: you can scroll with any non-slider area of that page Apr 30 19:30:09 ^ Apr 30 19:30:11 and yes - it sucks Apr 30 19:30:30 * GeneralAntilles has found that people claiming the N900's touchscreen sucks are usually doing it wrong. Apr 30 19:31:11 then maybe there is a thing to say about how intuitive the UI is? Apr 30 19:31:13 The capacitive is, quite simply, unusable for me. Apr 30 19:31:24 what's the app that lets you set up a repeating audio reminder (beep or something ) when you have a missed call/sms/email Apr 30 19:31:28 well, now that's subjective :) Apr 30 19:31:28 Intuitive is such a nebulous thing Apr 30 19:31:33 and a useless goal in most cases. Apr 30 19:31:36 kpel, FOR ME Apr 30 19:31:41 Not subjective at all. Apr 30 19:31:48 I can't stand using them. Apr 30 19:31:51 End of story. Apr 30 19:31:59 Which is why Nokia needs to release at least one of each Apr 30 19:32:11 So they don't lose a large chunk of their market. Apr 30 19:32:14 possibly Apr 30 19:32:22 Not possibly Apr 30 19:32:27 I simply wont buy a capacitive device. Apr 30 19:32:35 and I know a lot of other people who share the same sentiment. Apr 30 19:32:36 actualyl that would be an interesting way to measure the popularity of each technology Apr 30 19:32:52 To what possible end? Apr 30 19:32:59 People tend to like what they're familiar with Apr 30 19:33:06 Regardless of the relative merits of either Apr 30 19:33:14 Take Windows and Linux Apr 30 19:33:16 were they familiar with the capacitive screen of the iphone? Apr 30 19:33:17 Or Windows and OS X Apr 30 19:33:28 They are now. Apr 30 19:33:31 exactly Apr 30 19:33:36 and most of them hadn't really used a touchscreen. Apr 30 19:33:45 they didn't choose it because they were used to phones made by Apple Apr 30 19:33:47 SpeedEvil: you might want to refer to some of my crap, when editing wiki Apr 30 19:34:22 The RDF is strong Apr 30 19:34:27 But this is a pointless discussion Apr 30 19:34:27 DocScrutinizer:I shoul probably add it, yes. Apr 30 19:34:32 so I'm going to do something else. Apr 30 19:34:42 DocScrutinizer: Too tired tonight - been clearing garden more. But I guess I could do it old-school and buy a paper map Apr 30 19:48:48 jonne|reconnecte: openstreetmap Apr 30 19:48:59 Nokia m#Maps stores the data on the device, right? Apr 30 21:10:18 yeah, but in this case, "doing something" means it has not a #if NOKIA_N900 bork(); Apr 30 21:10:33 perhaps Apr 30 21:10:43 from now on we're discussing "proper" bugs in musb_hdrc Apr 30 21:10:54 (or hidden bme/dsme behaviours) Apr 30 21:11:11 *evil behaviors, for the matter. Apr 30 21:15:44 Is the above utilised boost supply cap a dedicated boost cap? Apr 30 21:16:10 That is - are components there for no purpose other than USB host Apr 30 21:16:53 I gather not.. Apr 30 21:24:58 Hi, Is it possible send message dbus to Flash Camera in n900 !? I cannot complete the installation :\ Apr 30 22:17:15 javispedro: well, we see musb-hdrc is *somewhere* to *some extent* working inside kernel (aka compiled in, not a module) apparently. Apr 30 22:20:21 to me it seems (sorry if that's maybe total BS) like OMAP has 2 usb ports, and the 1:1 is NOT the one that goes to the micro-B receptacle. (Again, that's a completely unchecked idea based on feeling). Anyway musb_hdrc doesn't respond to 'echo host >mode' (http://mxr.maemo.org/fremantle/source/kernel/drivers/usb/musb/musb_core.c line 2010), or to be precise I don't see any reaction on doing that. Apr 30 22:22:15 OTOH I'd really like to know which process e.g rises that notorious "mass-storage or PC-Suite mode?" requester Apr 30 22:22:37 process should be easy to know, but most probably it is notified by d-bus via ke-recv Apr 30 22:23:46 considering a -SIGSTOP BME both keeps VBUS alive and kills the watchdog, I really start to fear for our chances to edit in there Apr 30 22:24:11 regarding that requester kept bme from killing VBUS Apr 30 22:24:52 screw the watchdog Apr 30 22:24:55 :) Apr 30 22:25:07 NB! the requester kept VBUS alive for infinite time Apr 30 22:25:18 or do what titan usually does -- patch the kernel so that it ignores bme Apr 30 22:26:03 bme requests directed to certain /proc or /sys entries Apr 30 22:26:05 (though I would be more happy changing bme itself instead...) May 01 00:10:43 prolly 300mW green May 01 00:10:44 Beware ratings May 01 00:10:45 Arkenoi, buy a 200mW one and overclock it! May 01 00:10:46 some aren't real May 01 00:10:47 :p May 01 00:10:56 They count the IR emission too May 01 00:11:03 most aren't May 01 00:11:36 SpeedEvil: is the 780 visible? May 01 00:13:53 N900 for 25EUR -> http://www.saremi-mobilfunk.de/product_info.php/info/p4207_Original-Nokia-N900-Dummy-Phone-puma-black.html May 01 00:14:18 hmm May 01 00:14:29 I wonder if that has all the mechanical parts May 01 00:16:52 not really May 01 00:17:48 though probably real keymat, real case, real slider mech, real backlid May 01 00:18:52 I found a couple of those dummies on the junkyard and of course ripped them apart - some of them even had real switch assy May 01 00:19:24 not N900 of course May 01 00:19:31 DocScrutinizer, real keymat? May 01 00:19:31 but Nokia May 01 00:19:32 oh May 01 00:23:03 see, those are 1/10^3 the number built for the real thing. So it's more economic for some parts to use the original cheap plastic shit, than to make it 0.4ct cheaper, at the expense of $$$$$ for molds etc May 01 00:28:05 if they can simply switch to a cheaper plastic for example, then they'll do May 01 00:28:21 type of plastic material May 01 00:28:56 but they won't build a new mold to save 0.5g of plastic / unit May 01 00:30:06 they *might* even use worn-out original molds and mill out / weld in minimal changes, so e.g. no extra IR-window is needed May 01 00:30:32 as that is expensive on assembly - it's an additional part May 01 00:31:23 but usually the dummy cases still have all the brackets/latches for the nonexisting PCB, etc May 01 00:32:06 probably backlid is really nasty glued on May 01 00:33:07 dorp by your next Nokia store, and check out their dummy phones May 01 00:33:10 :-) May 01 00:38:16 My friend broke his N900 stylus filling out MLB All Star ballots 10 at a time. . . . May 01 00:40:43 http://www.saremi-mobilfunk.de/product_info.php/info/p4645_Original-Nokia-N900-Stylus-Pen-3pcs.html May 01 00:42:55 though considering 6 EUR/unit for plastic crap, I actually considered producing and selling luxury version made of brass or sth, for maybe 15/unit May 01 00:43:31 15 cents? May 01 00:43:45 hahaha May 01 00:43:58 plus a few stamps for free May 01 00:44:50 stainless steel May 01 00:45:06 or nice wood May 01 00:45:21 pizza? May 01 00:46:02 yes, please.
