**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Dec 23 02:59:59 2012 Dec 23 04:44:54 Hello, is anyone home? Dec 23 04:45:53 Hello everyone- Dec 23 04:45:53 I currently own a Cyan Nokia N9 16g. I've had the phone for a about 4 months and have never had a data plan with my carrier active on the phone. For the record, I live in the USA and use T-Mobile, which uses the 1700 and 1900 MHz bands for 3G and HSPA+ data. Even though the phone is clearly compatible with the network for Internet I've had tons of issues properly configuring the phone to work with the data connection. I've Dec 23 04:45:53 already made sure the APN is set to epc.t-mobile.com and that the Access Point code (1234) is correct. I've spoken to reps at the highest level of tech support to see what the issue and they can't seem to find anything wrong, so now I'm coming here to see if anyone has any ideas. I've uploaded some screenshots of the settings for the data connection below: Dec 23 04:45:53 Dec 23 04:45:53 Dec 23 04:45:54 Dec 23 04:45:56 The connection works intermittently, sometimes it'll work for a day, sometimes it won't work at all. Sometimes it'll load web pages halfway and then cut out, other times it won't sync properly with my email, Facebook, or Twitter accounts, etc. The problems seem to be random. FYI, I already know it works totally fine on wifi connections. If anyone has any ideas feel free to help. Thanks in advance. Dec 23 04:45:58 -Cheers, bobofosho123 Dec 23 04:46:00 UPDATE: I forgot to mention a few other details, whenever I reboot the phone I get a text from T-Mobile saying "We see your phone doesn't have correct settings to access the Internet or send MMS. You will receive a message on how to fix this." After that, a screen appears asking for the access point access code, which is 1234, and then it comes up again twice and then it finally connects. However, it normally fails to Dec 23 04:46:02 properly connect to the data network, meaning I'm still unable to access the Internet. Dec 23 04:46:29 If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Dec 23 04:52:22 bobofosho123: /join #harmattan Dec 23 04:52:35 way ahead of you Dec 23 04:52:36 thanks Dec 23 05:23:30 friggin server password user part is CASEsensitive >:-( Dec 23 07:00:05 . Dec 23 08:35:31 yep Dec 23 08:35:48 and? Dec 23 08:36:10 as long as it works... Dec 23 08:36:14 DocScrutinizer05: you don't by any chance know a nice wristwatch with firmware source code I can build with free sw? :P Dec 23 08:37:06 there's been that watch thingie javispedro built a interface for on HARM Dec 23 08:37:22 analog and digital Dec 23 08:37:27 O.o? Dec 23 08:37:44 the ti watch Dec 23 08:37:48 TI Dec 23 08:37:57 I forget the name Dec 23 08:38:06 eZ430-Chronos-915 - Chronos: Wireless development tool in a watch ? Dec 23 08:38:32 kerio: HAM fix? Dec 23 08:38:50 int_ua: something to allow normal users to still use the nokia repos Dec 23 08:38:53 to do system upgrades Dec 23 08:39:03 int_ua: nokia gpg key Dec 23 08:39:07 oh Dec 23 08:40:03 the TI was nice too, but I think there also been another one Dec 23 08:41:17 hmm Dec 23 08:41:24 freemangordon: probably "nifty :-D" been what you wanted to hear, eh? Dec 23 08:41:33 DocScrutinizer05: no Dec 23 08:41:45 but it is! Dec 23 08:43:15 DocScrutinizer05: I wanted to hear whether you think it will work and how do you like the idea to "backdoor" a package into users' deviced Dec 23 08:43:24 *devices Dec 23 08:43:45 DocScrutinizer05: https://github.com/MetaWatchOpenProjects/MetaWatch-Gen2 ? Dec 23 08:44:30 freemangordon: I think it could work, though I haven't checked in depth. And I like the idea Dec 23 08:44:49 since it's probably our only option anyway Dec 23 08:45:02 yeah, metawatch Dec 23 08:46:17 kerio: fmtx enabler is in both -extras and -ssu repos, I am afraid it being in -ssu won't allow newver version through -extras Dec 23 08:46:37 what do you think? Dec 23 08:47:05 i told you, there's no way i can think of to get a list of trust levels from HAM, so we can't really do an analysis from here Dec 23 08:47:11 we need someone on PR 1.3 to check that Dec 23 08:47:18 and in general - please, someone give an idea how to test that Dec 23 08:47:19 Luke-Jr: duh, seems they dropped the analog one Dec 23 08:47:19 more importantly, on PR 1.2 Dec 23 08:47:50 freemangordon: edit the maemo.org extras URL and key to use a repo we have to create for the purpose Dec 23 08:47:58 and push the package there Dec 23 08:47:58 hmm, IIRC MetaWatch has terrible battery life Dec 23 08:48:44 hmm, could we use cssu-devel? Dec 23 08:49:02 yeah, a week tops lol Dec 23 08:49:12 freemangordon: hm, i suppose so Dec 23 08:49:12 it should be the same for CSSU device Dec 23 08:49:20 who wants to charge their wristwatch every week? XD Dec 23 08:49:30 oh, no it may not be the same Dec 23 08:49:38 kerio: why? Dec 23 08:49:42 1) cssu-devel has a higher trust level than nokia repos Dec 23 08:49:46 Luke-Jr: every week was great. I heard you better charge every other day Dec 23 08:49:50 2) HAM was changed in cssu Dec 23 08:50:05 kerio: well, i'll edit that to match -extras Dec 23 08:50:09 DocScrutinizer05: the eZ430 one claims it lasts 1-2 years Dec 23 08:50:29 excuse me while I LOL Dec 23 08:50:42 kerio: and it is easy to downgrade HAM Dec 23 08:51:05 the point is: you CANT get 2 years of standby with any form of connectivity Dec 23 08:51:17 I don't need connectivity <.< Dec 23 08:51:21 on my watch Dec 23 08:51:30 well, then... Dec 23 08:51:35 kerio: though it might be easier to just flash PR1.2 Dec 23 08:51:39 freemangordon: i'd still prefer that someone with stock everything checked Dec 23 08:51:49 ^^^ Dec 23 08:51:50 freemangordon: good point, we also need to check the fix anyway Dec 23 08:51:50 I just want to see the time Dec 23 08:52:05 freemangordon: we can use cssu-devel as the repo, though Dec 23 08:52:20 kerio: yes, to do the initail testing Dec 23 08:52:25 *initial Dec 23 08:52:38 Luke-Jr: for that I suggest stranglers: 40 million watches with a strap to sell Dec 23 08:53:18 i would most definetely not suggest stranglers Dec 23 08:53:23 if they would ever sell out, that would be the end of... be the end of... be the end of TIME Dec 23 08:53:24 unless you don't have a neck Dec 23 08:53:25 DocScrutinizer05: can I change the firmware w/ free sw? Dec 23 08:54:05 or unless you mean these stranglers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B4bsqYxwo0 Dec 23 08:55:41 freemangordon: make sure to also specify the cssu-devel gpg key fingerprint in variant-domains.xexp Dec 23 08:55:58 and add a keychain with that key in the keys directory Dec 23 08:56:09 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3knQCtDOa0 Dec 23 08:56:24 kerio: TBH I am not sure I am the one to test that. I miss too much knowledge on apt Dec 23 08:57:17 I think it should be you, Pali or merlin1991 Dec 23 08:57:20 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFoOie1CRuk Dec 23 09:04:08 kerio: >>Unfortunately, this video is not available in Germany because it may contain music for which GEMA has not granted the respective music rights.<< Dec 23 09:04:39 no proper stranglers for me on tube Dec 23 09:05:08 kerio: what exactly gives me apt-cache policy? Dec 23 09:05:21 freemangordon: that's the apt priority, it's not relevant to what HAM does Dec 23 09:05:29 :( Dec 23 09:05:37 DocScrutinizer05: have you tried Modify Headers? Dec 23 09:05:56 add an X-Forwarded-For and then an IP from somewhere outside germany Dec 23 09:10:33 kerio: is there a howto for dummies? Dec 23 09:17:40 DocScrutinizer05: probably Dec 23 09:18:08 well, I'd need that Dec 23 09:18:45 or I would start writing a python local proxy Dec 23 09:19:09 or just use a realy relay somewhere in US or whatever Dec 23 09:19:19 though those never really work Dec 23 09:29:50 DocScrutinizer05: nah, the beauty is that you tell youtube *you* are a proxy Dec 23 09:29:54 for someone in the US Dec 23 10:13:21 kerio: I got that. But *how*? Dec 23 10:13:37 install the Modify Headers firefox extension Dec 23 10:13:43 if you use chrome, stop using chrome Dec 23 10:13:45 and install firefox Dec 23 10:13:51 because it's better Dec 23 10:13:56 mhm Dec 23 10:14:13 chrome, haha Dec 23 10:14:52 Konqueror here, but FF as secondary Dec 23 10:15:09 i didn't know people used Konqueror willingly Dec 23 10:17:34 it's the only UI that nicely integrates filemanager with (s)ftp and viewer and editor and html renderer Dec 23 10:18:36 ooh, also ark Dec 23 10:18:43 you make me sick Dec 23 10:19:37 heh Dec 23 10:21:26 it's a damn shame they dropped konqueror for this friggin dolphin in kde4 Dec 23 10:22:18 in konqueror I can even pick two alternative rendering engines Dec 23 10:22:45 webkit and gecko iirc Dec 23 10:24:04 look, in konqueror I seamlessly copy stuff from my N900 to cloud-7.de Dec 23 10:24:33 and instantly watch the http result in another tab Dec 23 10:24:57 even wget Dec 23 10:30:47 DocScrutinizer51: yeah but... KIO :s Dec 23 10:33:19 you could do the same with a "mv" with fuse Dec 23 10:41:59 is there a new build for ffmpeg on the n900? The one in the repos seems to be from 21/12/2009 Dec 23 10:45:21 Hey guys Dec 23 10:46:05 Oh, sorry, I would ask something about harmattan... Sorry! Joining #harmattan now ;) Dec 23 10:47:06 thedead1440: http://maemo.org/packages/view/ffmpeg/ Dec 23 10:47:09 apparently not. Dec 23 10:47:31 damn, that's a really old build Dec 23 10:47:46 Hurrian: thanks Dec 23 10:47:49 0.5svn in Fremantle versus 1.0.1 current. Dec 23 10:48:21 yup thats why i couldn't get baseline in -vprofile as an option Dec 23 10:54:13 thedead1440: try mailing the maintainer Dec 23 10:56:29 kerio: done :D Dec 23 11:11:59 man, shitty day. Dec 23 11:12:28 Hurrian: what? you have your n900 stolen? damn :( Dec 23 11:12:34 :-\ Dec 23 11:12:38 damnit Dec 23 11:12:50 freemangordon, brought it out of my pocket to change the song, and it got snatched. Dec 23 11:13:00 what an idiot lifts a N900? Dec 23 11:13:07 hehe Dec 23 11:13:18 Had the missus and kids, didn't want to run after the thief. Dec 23 11:15:25 aah Dec 23 11:15:54 freemangordon: unfortunately not anymore, as I previously sold the other working ones. I still have some scrap N900 spares, but not entirely sure I can put together a working machine from the scraps. Dec 23 11:16:27 well, if I ever go there, I'll chain the N900 to my wrist. And take my P99 with me Dec 23 11:16:52 I could buy cheap ones for ~US$60, but I don't feel like getting one in sketchy condition. Dec 23 11:17:32 "new" ones are still being sold for ~$500, but it's obvious they're "lightly used" devices Dec 23 11:18:01 :( Dec 23 11:19:37 I'm playing with my N9 to relieve some of the stress, but it simply isn't the same. Dec 23 11:20:29 Time to dig around for one, I guess. Dec 23 11:22:54 Hurrian: well, maybe push harder on forward-porting hildon-desktop :). Not that it will bring fmtx and uSD slot Dec 23 11:24:04 freemangordon: I was thinking of that, but damn, is the ancient glib build dependency making the build spit out build errors. Dec 23 11:24:36 Oh well. I'll think on what to do, but I guess the N900 QEMU image will have to do for now. Dec 23 11:25:08 Hurrian: what functions newer glib lacks? Dec 23 11:25:26 freemangordon: not functions, it's the header files Dec 23 11:25:50 IIRC there was a post on tmo that described exactly the problem I was having Dec 23 11:25:56 Hurrian: but, but, .. did you try cordia one? Dec 23 11:26:20 afaik that one should work Dec 23 11:26:26 Not the cordia ones, I didn't want to use GTK3 because it's half-broken. Dec 23 11:26:33 aah, i see Dec 23 11:26:34 'brand new' ones on eBay for $200. I guess these are HK refurbs Dec 23 15:21:27 got a mail from the ffmpeg maintainer: Dec 23 15:21:34 It has been so long I couldn't even remember what Freemantle was. I stopped working on Maemo a long time ago. Dec 23 15:39:35 thedead1440: anything in that mail you can share in case somebody picks up on what you did?
