**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sat Aug 03 03:00:00 2013 Aug 03 07:55:53 good morning Aug 03 08:04:04 Hi Aug 03 08:04:49 can anybody please package something? Aug 03 08:04:49 into a deb file Aug 03 08:15:07 1) you can't do it yourself? 2) is the package already packed in debian format? 3) what sort of package is it? or the name of the package. Aug 03 08:34:04 1) kinda hard without having a pc/laptop around. 2) no. 3) a couple of python files, for LiveView (smartwatch for Maemo) Aug 03 08:34:31 link: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90909 Aug 03 08:37:26 I believe you can install dpkg-dev or something which is a meta package that includes all the stuff necessary for building packages. Its more or less a pre-requisite for dpkg-repack anyway. Aug 03 08:43:53 so i can create a deb file on the go? Aug 03 08:43:57 mmmh.. python stuff.. that may make dependencies a little hard to write out (apart from getting criticised if one makes a mistake). Aug 03 08:44:14 Yes, in theory. Though you'll be making it on N900 more or less. Aug 03 08:44:29 did you check the link? Aug 03 08:45:07 Yes I did, the author didn't fully mention the dependencies which can sort of mess things up depending on how you look at it. Aug 03 08:46:05 maybe the default python packages should be enough already Aug 03 08:46:09 When I say mess things up I meant when making your own deb file. No dependencies, users probably whinge/moan about python not compatible, etc. Wrong python versions, users probably whinge/moan and then probably ask more. Aug 03 08:46:23 haha Aug 03 08:46:24 The clueword you had right there was maybe. Aug 03 08:46:37 yeah Aug 03 08:46:47 it's more or less for myself Aug 03 08:47:04 but hey, if they moan, we can find out what dependencies we're missing hehe Aug 03 08:47:50 In other words, that passes the work onto whoever wrote it, in other words apart from the developer h{im,er}self, they will be a maintaner which all bickering will be directed to. Aug 03 08:48:24 doesnt' have to be uploaded to the repos (yet) Aug 03 08:48:32 just a simple deb should be enough for now though Aug 03 08:49:01 No, but you can for example turn around and start sharing the alpha/beta build of it and then say questions should be directed to . Aug 03 08:49:15 no problems to help people Aug 03 08:49:34 pretty sure there aren't a lot of people with a LiveView Aug 03 08:49:58 Well if you say that then you should take on the work as maintainer then :). Aug 03 08:51:17 need a deb package only to begin with :D Aug 03 08:52:19 dpkg-dev, unpack a deb file and read up how to do it. That way you will learn what is required for making a nice (or at least a decent) usable deb file. Aug 03 08:55:21 kerio: need ideas what to thumbify next :) Aug 03 08:58:12 lets try to see it :) Aug 03 09:02:08 HtheB, I could play really nasty and do a skill swap, you help me fix up flashing Samsung Galaxy S II using heimdall and stock jellybean firmware and I can then write up a quick and dirty deb :) Aug 03 09:12:07 Guess not eh? ;) lol Aug 03 09:37:54 psycho_oreos, sorry i had to help a customer (im at work, at Vodafone) Aug 03 09:38:00 so, tell me what you want Aug 03 09:38:37 i killed an Sii. but revived it back using heimdall some time ago :P Aug 03 09:40:10 poke me when you're ready Aug 03 09:41:58 HtheB, :O rather convenient (imo.. LOL) I've got Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100T) which was vodaphone AU (vodaphone boot logo). I managed to get it to not show up vodaphone AU with the help of another person in though now I'm getting "Unfortunately, Samsung services has stopped working." It keeps showing up that message without letting me get out of those default greetings. Aug 03 09:42:53 s/ph/f/g Aug 03 09:42:53 psycho_oreos meant: HtheB, :O rather convenient (imo.. Aug 03 09:44:08 To be frank its not my phone and I don't intend to use it as main one. It was a hand me down to be passed onto another member of my family lol. Aug 03 09:44:32 oke Aug 03 09:44:55 hmmm Aug 03 09:45:25 so the phone boots just normally, right? Aug 03 09:46:10 Yeah, with a huge help from elsewhere I managed to get the phone to not go into "soft" freeze again. Aug 03 09:54:04 hi everyone. I hope you are enjoying your holidays Aug 03 09:57:01 quick question: I get reception with one N900 (reheated in order to get the CMT back) and not with another one (which recognizes the SIM)... may the second one have some antenna problemas? Aug 03 10:15:27 slow time of the day, it seems. Aug 03 10:15:35 I guess I'll try later. Aug 03 11:32:49 hello, Aug 03 11:33:22 crisis, maemo updtae cssu and now it reboot more than 7x :( Aug 03 11:33:43 usb broken, n900 to the trash? Aug 03 11:35:38 butofc Aug 03 11:35:46 but ofc even :) Aug 03 11:36:16 ofc? Aug 03 11:36:23 of course Aug 03 11:36:54 sardini: any scilled technician with appropriate tools can fix it Aug 03 11:36:58 *skilled Aug 03 11:38:22 a friand of mine got her USB broken a couple of months ago, she send the device to the shop she bought the device from, they fixed it for about 40 euro Aug 03 11:38:32 shit, what's with me :( Aug 03 11:38:36 FRIEND Aug 03 11:39:11 I will suicide, my only phone since 3 years Aug 03 11:40:15 sardini: I don;t think the technicians in Bulgaria have some extraordinary skills :D. The ones in the place you live should be capable, you only need to ask ;) Aug 03 11:40:33 sure i will do Aug 03 11:40:35 broken usb is common enough that probably many here can do it, but of course it depends on what way it broke Aug 03 11:40:47 joga:  Aug 03 11:40:53 if you just need to solder the connector back, not a big deal Aug 03 11:41:13 (not that I have done it myself though, I've been very tender to my n900) Aug 03 11:41:14 :) Aug 03 11:41:32 joga: though even if it is badly broken, an additional wiring is possible Aug 03 11:41:41 and this append at week-end, of course Aug 03 11:42:01 (that is how my friends USB was repaired) Aug 03 11:42:13 freemangordon, yeah I guess it's mostly a matter of soldering skills, phone scale stuff can be a bit finicky Aug 03 11:42:20 exactly Aug 03 11:42:59 sardini: there could be 24/7 repair centres, just look for them Aug 03 11:43:28 here impossible :) Aug 03 11:43:29 well, maybe not 24/7, but 8/7 Aug 03 11:43:48 sardini: where is "here"? Aug 03 11:44:03 go to some bar where electronics people hang out, bring them a soldering iron and buy some beer and they might fix it Aug 03 11:44:12 or that one :) Aug 03 11:44:39 joga: hmm, better without the soldering iron Aug 03 11:45:08 joga, on has to go there quite early in the evening though Aug 03 11:45:27 heh Aug 03 11:45:32 yeah better :) Aug 03 11:45:39 joga, otherwise they might ask hard questions like, which one of these ports is broken Aug 03 11:45:48 inz: why, their hands will tremble less later on the evening :D Aug 03 11:46:01 I would like to live in your town Aug 03 11:46:05 s/ on/ in/ Aug 03 11:46:05 freemangordon meant: inz: why, their hands will tremble less later in the evening :D Aug 03 11:46:09 you need to get there on time so they're getting a buzz but aren't too drunk that it's dangerous Aug 03 11:46:55 Decent buzz for steady hands and being gullible Aug 03 11:47:40 ohw a stupid update can broke a phone Aug 03 11:47:42 bullshit Aug 03 11:48:02 sardini: did you try to remove the battery? Aug 03 11:48:19 yes after 10 reboot I change the battery Aug 03 11:48:36 did you try to remove uSD and SIM card? Aug 03 11:48:42 nop Aug 03 11:48:52 try it, worths nothing Aug 03 11:49:21 worths/costs? Aug 03 11:49:40 hmm, my english is getting worse and worse :( Aug 03 11:51:01 remoce cards change nothing Aug 03 11:51:05 remove Aug 03 11:51:53 sardini: well, I'm afraid there is no option then but to repair your USB :( Aug 03 11:52:07 I think so Aug 03 11:52:23 If I must buy a new phone adios jolla Aug 03 11:52:53 only the t-shirt to cry :/ Aug 03 11:53:45 freemangordon Aug 03 11:54:00 can you pacakge something for me into a deb file? Aug 03 11:54:17 HtheB: hmm? Aug 03 11:54:32 http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90909 Aug 03 11:54:35 this :( Aug 03 11:55:36 hmm, never packaged a python script, not sure I'll get the dependencies correct Aug 03 11:55:46 lemme try to find if it is already packaged Aug 03 11:56:06 HtheB: BTW what is that, I googled for it and found nothing Aug 03 11:56:07 ? Aug 03 11:56:34 liveview is a watch Aug 03 11:56:36 smartwatch Aug 03 11:56:41 from sonyericsson Aug 03 11:56:47 oooh, i see Aug 03 11:57:28 freemangordon: [re: ideas for thumbification] xorg on gcc47 Aug 03 11:57:46 kerio: stop that !!! :P Aug 03 11:57:59 it's the only thing i could think of Aug 03 11:58:00 :s Aug 03 11:58:12 kerio: xorg on gcc 472 won;t happen anytime soon Aug 03 11:58:15 :( Aug 03 11:58:27 we'll gain nothing Aug 03 11:58:49 freemangordon, would be awesome if its an easy installable deb file Aug 03 11:59:00 (maybe even in the repos?) Aug 03 11:59:27 is mafw thumbified? Aug 03 11:59:35 HtheB: yeah, got that, but as I toldya I've never packaged a python script. And I guess I'll need an icon ;) Aug 03 12:00:36 HtheB: also this guy progprog said he'll continue his work on that, I guess he'll package it eventually Aug 03 12:01:14 I don;t want to steal his project Aug 03 12:01:54 he'll be gone Aug 03 12:01:58 for a couple weeks :( Aug 03 12:02:11 well, patience is the key word here :D Aug 03 12:02:12 (building a deb without uploading to the repos wouldnt harm i guess) Aug 03 12:02:42 kerio: I know you're python fan, wanna do ^^^? Aug 03 12:02:55 (package a python script in a .deb) Aug 03 12:03:08 i can hardly package a single-binary c package in a deb Aug 03 12:24:13 booohooo Aug 03 12:25:07 Its not easy when trying to see what to include, pack, etc. Besides it seems to use some other hardware which makes difficult for one who doesn't even own such a device (apart from N900) to work out a installable package. Aug 03 12:25:31 psycho_oreos, just pack as it is, and i'll report :D Aug 03 12:25:57 There's two python files mentioned, menu_* stuff is not mentioned exactly where, there's a binary firmware which who knows if python scripts needs it. Aug 03 12:26:52 HtheB, that's very blindly packing, and there's no maemo icon so it will look a bit ugly with default hildon blue box thing. Aug 03 12:27:08 dont care Aug 03 12:27:15 i can provide an icon if u need one Aug 03 12:27:22 harmattanized icon Aug 03 12:28:32 Ok, but you still have missing issues to address, no menu_*.png as mentioned by author (I had quick glances in the two mentioned github repositories and found nothing related.). The firmware binary (??) needed? Aug 03 12:30:02 let me quickly see Aug 03 12:57:06 couldn't the N900 just get the time and date from the cellular and/or wifi network, rather than bugging me every time i remove the battery? Aug 03 12:59:04 LjL, try to wait a few seconds when you change battery. Shutdown, wait 1 minute, put the new battery (speed as you can), wait 1 minute and start. That's work for me.. Aug 03 12:59:13 but don't update! bullshit Aug 03 13:00:24 maybe less than 1 minute Aug 03 13:00:37 eh, i can't really change the battery very fast, because i don't have two batteries - i just remove it when i need to swap SIMs with another phone Aug 03 13:01:35 sucks to be you i guess Aug 03 13:01:48 i don't even have that dialog installed anymore Aug 03 13:02:13 if i lose my clock, i just NTP it Aug 03 13:02:32 how? Aug 03 13:03:01 kerio: well, that was my question Aug 03 13:03:26 kerio: in the control panel there's an "automatically update", but apparently it doesn't change my date/time... probably because it's too much off? Aug 03 13:03:41 kerio: i would be fine with clock from GSM and/or NTP, and no dialog Aug 03 13:03:43 sudo ntpd -q -p 0.europe.pool.ntp.org -p 1.europe.pool.ntp.org -p 2.europe.pool.ntp.org -p 3.europe.pool.ntp.org && sudo hwclock -w Aug 03 13:04:38 if you do this once.. will it update automaticly everytime? Aug 03 13:04:54 i don't think so, i imagine kerio has it in some init.d script Aug 03 13:05:03 i run it manually Aug 03 13:05:06 oh Aug 03 13:05:12 oo Aug 03 13:05:29 yesterday i wanted to install Mer so i'd have something to play with while on holiday, but it refuses to boot :( Aug 03 13:05:30 LjL: Some providers apparantly don't properly broadcast time. Aug 03 13:05:54 SpeedEvil: i think mine does, since iirc it works on other phones Aug 03 13:06:36 I've just installed a ntpd client - when the n900 loses time - it soon syncs Aug 03 13:06:55 heh there's a "sync time now" widget in extras-testing Aug 03 13:06:59 Unfortunately, this causes wierd timestamps if texts come in first Aug 03 13:07:21 ah Aug 03 13:07:50 SpeedEvil: which client is this that you have installed? just openntpd? Aug 03 13:08:01 I forget - I think so. Aug 03 13:08:13 I would answer you - but I'd have to get up and go inside out of this nice sun. Aug 03 13:08:27 heh no problem Aug 03 13:08:33 it's just a small nuisance in any case Aug 03 16:00:29 Hmm, why does Conky show the cpu clock at 850mhz momentarily when the cpu-load is under 10... fact or fiction? Aug 03 16:06:30 fiction, probably Aug 03 16:06:40 powertop reports 1150MHz Aug 03 16:51:57 O no! Does my use of SQLite3 to access the ~/.rtcom-eventlogger/el-v1.db block modifications to the database? I happened to be executing a SQLite command, and a new SMS came in but won't show up on the database, nor does it display in a yellow window when I use the "present multitasking windows" view (whatever that's called). And now CallNotify keeps ringing to remind me to look at that new SMS which I can't see. Aug 03 16:52:15 Strange, and I didn't make any changes to the eventlogger db, just queried it. Aug 03 16:52:41 I can see the SMS through the conversations widget, but CallNotify is still dinging every minute. Aug 03 16:54:25 Oh, wait, I can't see the SMS. That was an old SMS I was viewing. So another possibility is that CallNotify is wrong in thinking that an SMS arrived. But the Maemo system itself beeped the "SMS sound" (not related to CallNotify, right?) Aug 04 02:46:02 Running on stock BME with advanced-power-daemon (still!!), its ironically funny to see how N900 is really picky on garden variety of wallwart USB based chargers. Whilst in terminal *under backupmenu* kernel will happily allow charging from any garden variety charger, however once hildon has been fully booted the device starts to be picky about any chargers that do not seem to be computer based. With the amount of N900s dangling off my laptop (under Aug 04 02:46:02 various purposes), its somewhat safe to say that N900 is kinda like little puppies refusing to "drink milk" from any other sources other than from a "proper mother dog".
