**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Dec 15 02:59:59 2014 Dec 15 05:01:42 About competitors: Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G, has physical keyboard (five rows?), and such. Why is it being sold that cheap - under 200 USD on amazon? Dec 15 05:04:10 That's after seeing old-ish Openmoko (no camera, CPU 0.4Hz) for 599 Euro at Pulster website. Dec 15 05:06:09 android phones are cheap Dec 15 05:06:17 (relatively) Dec 15 05:06:50 dunno about that epic 4G but guessing it's old Dec 15 05:06:58 Hmm... Why? It's not like it's impossible to get something else running on them? Dec 15 05:07:40 2010... Yes, I guess that's old. Dec 15 05:07:59 obviously it's not very easy either or we would have a samsung phone running maemo ;) Dec 15 05:08:10 (or whatever) Dec 15 05:08:23 joga: well, maybe not. most Android phones have crappy capacitive ts Dec 15 05:08:43 most of the world is happy with those Dec 15 05:08:55 I still believe the N900 is the best cellphone ever made. Dec 15 05:09:11 And that's only because the Neo900 isn't actually a thing yet :) Dec 15 05:09:25 N900 isn't really a cellphone.. Dec 15 05:09:31 jonwil: thoughts on the Pyra? Dec 15 05:09:39 it's the best portable terminal and IT multitool but a nokia 3210 beats it as phone Dec 15 05:10:05 Haven't seen enough on the Pyra to comment Dec 15 05:12:17 Yes, resistive ts is more rare than qwerty hardware keyboard. Dec 15 05:12:40 As a phone the N900 is far better than my old Motorola e378i, my old Motorola L6 and my old Motorola Z6 (the Z6 was one of the pre-Android Linux projects from Motorola that were always promised a "native code SDK"but never got one) Dec 15 05:12:53 And the N900 blows the pants off anything from crApple :P Dec 15 05:19:16 Okay, then where is the easy manual to: 1. solder a new microUSB port to the board, in the place where the old one was torn out; 2. not miss the phone calls - the device does not even ring; 3. fsck MyDocs partition - just "fsck -avl" does not repair it, at all, though I know where the problem files are located. Dec 15 05:20:24 I mean, I get notified that I missed a call, two minutes after missing it, and that does not give me enough time to call-back before caller chooses an alternative method of communication. Dec 15 05:21:05 And I cannot delete "Input/Output error" file, even if I wanted to - it's "read-only filesystem" for a reason. Dec 15 05:22:55 Sorry for attacking you. Just people around are asking me to get a phone which actually works, and does not fall apart at seams. Dec 15 05:31:34 For a corrupted partition: Hook to a PC(or use a spare SD card), copy your files off. Reformat the partition. Copy back on Dec 15 05:31:54 There's a reason backupmenu exists, but it's usually the home/optfs that craps out Dec 15 05:32:48 Good night, and good luck. Reformat MyDocs? Oh [gods]... I will certainly take opportunity to send the files from read-only MyDocs through Bluetooth. Without MicroUSB, there can be no hooking to PC. There is no spare SD card, especially working one. Dec 15 05:33:06 Ouch. Dec 15 05:33:20 MicroSD cards are cheap, though, aren't they? Dec 15 05:33:56 Last time my usb port fell off, I backed up to a linux PC via wifi(ssh), using rsync; took about 3 full batteries to do it. Dec 15 05:34:08 The usb port is the one horribly stupid thing about this phone Dec 15 05:37:06 The sad thing is, I still can't find anything better: I love the resistive screen that is accurate and I can use my fingernail, the web browser with it's mouse mode for interacting with mouseovers and such, the nice, simple debian-based package management, and useful console, the hardware keyboard, and the camera slide-cover Dec 15 05:37:23 Everyone wants iphone-clones these days, I guess Dec 15 05:37:54 Oh, and the landscape-native system was a good idea too -- except for phone calls, why would you use portrate for anything? Dec 15 05:38:12 ~usbfix Dec 15 05:38:12 well, usbfix is http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=75920 - and **NEVER** use epoxy (unless you want to seal your device for underwater), or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYz5nIHH0iY#t=1866, you will basically need two irons: a small good one (or better hot-air reflow) and a 60+ Watt Dec 15 05:38:31 Anyway, cya all. Dec 15 10:31:07 DocScrutinizer: infobot joined! Dec 15 12:58:54 how can i use bash script on maemo ? Dec 15 13:00:12 i try $bash my_script ' on my nokian900 but impossible Dec 15 13:00:33 it didn't know what is it Dec 15 13:04:46 CapsuL: you make it executable and ./yourscript in a bash Dec 15 13:05:40 if you call it as exec in some other term the script needs to have the bash exec line so the invoker knows it is bash Dec 15 13:15:18 CapsuL, is it in MyDocs? it's mounted as noexec so you can't run stuff there Dec 15 13:15:38 if you put the script in your home dir (or subdirectory there) it should work Dec 15 13:38:48 thx chem|st and joga Dec 15 13:38:56 i will try Dec 15 14:05:07 joga: oh yeah forgot about that Dec 15 14:27:02 ~flasher Dec 15 14:27:03 flasher is probably at http://www.jedge.com/n810/flasher/maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.tar.gz (also .exe!), or http://www.chakra-project.org/ccr/packages.php?ID=5027 or generally http://www.google.com/search?q=maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.tar.gz. Dec 15 15:08:22 as you load rescueOS Dec 15 15:09:21 aw... I think it the standard nokia kernel, I haven't changed anything. I have Multiboot, it can show the kernel, I think. Dec 15 15:20:24 antranigv: no, you just load the kernel with flasher Dec 15 15:20:25 in ram Dec 15 15:21:08 kerio: so I also have to download kernel to load ? Timed recording would be even better. Dec 15 17:07:41 Vajb: recaller is a nice little widget capable of recording any sound in the system, incl. radio. for timed recording, you might want to cook up sumthing in conjunction with alarm(e)d Dec 15 17:13:00 Sicelo: thx. Will check it out. Dec 15 17:14:59 including phone calls ? Dec 15 17:15:27 (or do we have anything for phone calls recording ?) Dec 15 18:10:23 sixwheeledbeast: ok. Will take a look when i get back home Dec 15 18:13:56 i will try Orecchiette too. Dec 15 21:34:21 Thank you, robbiethe1st. Portrait is very useful for scrolling long lists, currently, be it in file manager or somewhere else. Since nobody invented landscape-usable scrollable lists, yet. I have an idea about that... Define widget "scrollable list" in portrait like two lists, side by side: one of them contains one half of the list, the other contains the other half. So, you see the first... Dec 15 21:34:22 ...and the last items in the list at the same time. When you scroll either of these two lists, the other auto-scrolls, too. So, to search whole list, you only need to scroll to half of the list, because you will simultaneously search the beginning and the end of the list. Confusing? It gets rid of ascending-descending switches nicely, though. Dec 15 23:17:43 question: if I install CSSU, is there a going back ? reflashing maybe ?
