**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Aug 05 02:59:58 2016 Aug 05 07:29:47 one thing for sure, the failure of my N900 to export via USB Mass Storage is not hardware problem. it exports just fine in BM Aug 05 07:31:54 if anyone knows how the whole mass storage mechanism works, please ping me .. i am also checking on tmo Aug 05 08:23:19 Sicelo: modprobe g_file_storage file=/dev/... Aug 05 08:24:22 preferably after making sure other modules beginning with "g_" are unloaded first (including g_file_storage) Aug 05 08:25:25 Maxdamantus: yes, i've just noticed that module. it's not loaded on my N900. i wish to know why it's not though .. what should load it? Aug 05 08:26:22 which? g_file_storage? Aug 05 08:27:26 I think normally when you attach a USB cable some dialogue box asks you what you want to do, and I think one of the options causes it to load g_file_storage Aug 05 08:28:28 I've made my system load g_ether on boot instead so that functionality wouldn't work, because sharing filesystems with live devices seems dodgy to me. Aug 05 08:28:50 I don't think it shares a block device if it is already mounted Aug 05 08:29:01 and at some point I changed my system so nothing popped up on USB. Aug 05 08:29:30 I don't want to trust that it detects it's unmounted. Aug 05 08:30:24 there are things in the OS that lazily unmount the filesystem at some points, at which point you can't safely ensure the filesystem isn't in use. Aug 05 08:31:04 * Maxdamantus has everything on a single ext4 filesystem anyway Aug 05 08:35:14 (Linux's lack of ability to forcefully unmount filesystems has annoyed me for a while) Aug 05 08:35:36 umount basically does that Aug 05 08:35:40 er lazy* Aug 05 08:35:50 Some of them react to some sysrq, but that can't target specific filesystems. Aug 05 08:36:05 No. lazy doesn't really do anything at the filesystem level. Aug 05 08:36:21 It just makes it so you can't traverse to it through its current mountpoints. Aug 05 08:36:46 If processes still have files or directories open they can continue using the filesystem as usual. Aug 05 08:37:11 really? Aug 05 08:37:13 odd Aug 05 08:37:30 eg, if you have an instance of `bash` with its cwd inside that filesystem, you can still do everything you normally can, spawn new processes to open files etc Aug 05 08:37:56 Well, that's what it means by "lazy" Aug 05 08:39:09 (when there are no processes left with references to files/directories in the filesystem it will be properly unmounted) Aug 05 08:40:11 Maxdamantus: my problem is that the dialog does not come up Aug 05 08:40:54 i didn't change any scripts to cause that .. so might have come with something i installed. at this time it would be difficult to even assume what did :P Aug 05 08:41:00 i hardly use mass storage mode Aug 05 08:41:32 but i do want it to work fine Aug 05 08:51:22 * Maxdamantus can't remember what he did to change it. Aug 05 08:52:18 21:29 < Maxdamantus> Hm. I figured out how to remove the dialogue that pops up when you connect a USB cable: uninstall hildon-status-bar-usb Aug 05 08:52:52 Maybe you'd want to reinstall that and see if it does something. Aug 05 08:53:05 thanks. will do. Aug 05 08:53:18 or maybe someone else can do `dpkg -L hildon-status-bar-usb` and say what's actually inside it. Aug 05 08:53:44 i have it :) Aug 05 08:54:01 Yeah, so see what programs are in it and if they're running. Aug 05 08:54:49 just a *.so Aug 05 08:55:49 Hm, so maybe just kill hildon-status-bar and see if something changes when it comes back up. Maybe run syslogd beforehand. Aug 05 08:56:07 very good idea. yes. will do that Aug 05 09:02:22 or reboot Aug 05 09:02:34 it usually works on every system Aug 05 09:03:09 sicelo: how was your oscp experience? got any bugs/requests/notes? Aug 05 09:07:10 KotCzarny: i didn't use it for long. just tested a couple of songs that i have, and the videos. request would be something a bit more obvious to indicate a Help that tells one what the keys do Aug 05 09:07:44 keys or buttons? Aug 05 09:08:27 hwkbd Aug 05 09:09:06 i've tried to make it quite intuitive when it comes with navigation, in short, left==go parent dir, right/enter==play highlighted or enter dir, up/down==move Aug 05 09:09:19 Repeat, Shuffle, Quit Aug 05 09:09:44 a help key would be nice ... e.g. use '?' as in mutt Aug 05 09:09:49 dont remember which one is make-recursive-playlist, but you can simply check ~/.oscp/oscp.conf Aug 05 09:09:52 Help Aug 05 09:09:54 press h Aug 05 09:10:33 but where is that shown? Aug 05 09:11:12 you coul have it at the bottom .. at least in 'home' view only Aug 05 09:11:22 in help? a bit further in the text, i might make it more exposed Aug 05 09:11:48 also, which ui are you using? pygtk or ncurses? Aug 05 09:11:53 they differ a bit, but not much Aug 05 09:11:59 i used ncurses Aug 05 09:12:04 then press h Aug 05 09:12:07 it shows the keys Aug 05 09:12:44 and you can remap almost all keys in config Aug 05 09:12:48 you aren't getting me -- what i am saying is : you have a new oscp user .. how will he know what key does what? Aug 05 09:13:18 i assumed it obvious. in pygtk there is first time help Aug 05 09:13:30 okay Aug 05 09:13:40 also, if you run: oscp -h it will show you the keys too Aug 05 09:13:54 usual linux experience is -h and/or manual Aug 05 09:23:25 also if you open hwkb you can control console oscp by clicking on screen areas Aug 05 09:26:06 * Sicelo testing wargus ... yay! N900 is still worth keeping Aug 05 09:27:18 Of course it is worth keeping Aug 05 09:27:29 yup. Aug 05 09:28:38 :) Aug 05 10:44:15 yay .. who said merlin1991 was awol? :) he's approved my extras upload request Aug 05 10:48:44 but what is council doing? Aug 05 10:50:38 no idea :) Aug 05 10:50:41 publicity? Aug 05 10:50:53 links? Aug 05 10:52:33 though keep in mind, not everyone is bound to spend 24/7 checking email/notifications Aug 05 11:16:25 KotCzarny: they're facilitating! Aug 05 12:33:50 doesn't council send meeting minutes of all weekly meetings anymore? Aug 05 12:34:57 those should answer pretty accurately what council does Aug 05 12:35:33 at least the major topics, aside of the recurring standard tasks Aug 05 12:46:43 hi Aug 05 15:19:10 hi DocScrutinizer05! I suppose sicelo req for upload rights is still pending.. I would approve his req but at the moment i have only limited connectivity. Please could you approve his request? Aug 05 15:19:43 xes: he said it got approved Aug 05 15:20:14 if not, I'll try to take care. NP Aug 05 15:20:38 however I have to find the right webpage for approval Aug 05 15:20:43 ok thanks Aug 05 15:21:11 ooh wait, isn't it linked property of a garage project? Aug 05 15:21:22 that's easy then Aug 05 15:22:22 yes, I#m pretty sure it's the project (or its owner) that has a property of "may upload to extras" in garage Aug 05 15:23:38 in the ancient times it possibly went via email, by simply replying "accept" or "reject" Aug 05 15:24:02 sorry, meeting Aug 05 18:42:55 xes: thanks. merlin approved my req :) Aug 05 23:59:43 got my "new" n900 today and im amazed. It came in original box with original charger, charger adapter, handsfree and user guide. Only thing missing is av-cable. Cosmetically it seems to be in good condition. Only flaw is that it is missing that small "bumb" at screen unlock button. Will see how well it works hardware wise after i clone my old n900 to it. Aug 06 01:29:32 I always wondered jow people manage to remove that little bump Aug 06 01:30:15 anyway on one donated device I replaced the missing bump by a slot I milled in with my dremel Aug 06 01:31:24 * DocScrutinizer05 grabbed the next closest device and found it could use exactly same treatment Aug 06 01:31:37 especially in that otterbox **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Aug 06 02:59:58 2016
