Apparently the Wikimedia public servers now use an HTTPS configuration that is incompatible with wget as distributed by Ubuntu 10.04.x LTS.  This issue may have had an easy workaround but I did not want to sidetrack myself to research it, I just wanted to finish my original task of updating a Web site for my company.
Apr 03 03:12:18 <brolin_empey> I tried to install curl on Ubuntu 10.04.x LTS but I would have to update the APT sources.list file because this version of Ubuntu is now EOL.  I have done that many times over the years but I did not want to sidetrack myself that much so I just used wget on my office computer then copied the image (as in picture) files over the network with scp.  I mean I wanted to see if curl on Ubuntu 10.04.x LTS still works to download these files.

Apr 03 03:20:58 <brolin_empey> I wanted to find an image search engine that allows to limit the results to vector graphics only so I could find vector versions of the wordmarks of Freescale Semiconductor and NXP Semiconductors but then I realised/remembered that Wikipedia seems to be a good place to get vector versions of logos or wordmarks.
