Basically, natively-formatted ext3 disks are only fully-supported and automatically recognized when directly connected to USB 1 and USB 2 - no hubs allowed. If you wish to use ext3 disks on a hub, you must mount the disks yourself, and work out a means to share them via Samba if you wish to see them on the network.
