**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Tue Mar 13 02:59:56 2007 Mar 13 04:19:11 Ergh.. I'm having a problem with my NSLU2 and it seems that the problem MIGHT be solved only if I upgrade to a different firmware than the original one. I have no clue what is causing it. Anyone could help me before I do so, just in case someone knows what the problem is...? Mar 13 04:33:29 Is there an easy way to start a process that continues even after you leave an ssh session? Mar 13 04:42:00 TryMoreTh: screen is your friend Mar 13 04:42:08 cron is too Mar 13 04:46:25 can you just run a single process as a cron right now? or does it have to be sceduled? Mar 13 04:49:22 cron is for scheduling jobs and I think that screen is exactly what you want Mar 13 04:51:04 resurching screen, was a little slow at first because of the comonality of the word screen. Mar 13 04:53:57 Damn! that is cool. thanks joshin. Mar 13 04:54:16 Enjoy! Mar 13 04:54:50 I'm using screen right now to background my irssi proxy session on my slug so that I may talk to you on my desktop running xchat. Mar 13 04:54:58 I'm using screen right now to background my irssi proxy session on my slug so that I may talk to you on my desktop running xchat. Mar 13 05:00:40 could you explain irssi to me? this isn't the first time I have seen someone refer to it with such great admiration in assosiation with the slug. Mar 13 05:01:44 It is a command line IRC client that has a built in proxy. I mainly use it to stay logged in so that my power hungry desktop sleeps when I do. Mar 13 05:02:10 I don't miss anything here and use a 3w device instead of a 200w device. Mar 13 05:02:10 but it stays running, and keeps you logged in, and keeps logs? Mar 13 05:02:14 Yup. Mar 13 05:02:56 I think I understand and can use the whole web proxy thing.. but how does the irc proxy thing work? Mar 13 05:03:31 You log into this proxy with another irc client? Mar 13 05:03:38 any irc client? Mar 13 05:03:51 Or you just bring up the interface that the irssi provides? Mar 13 05:05:50 Both the irssi interface and/or another irc client or both at the same time. Mar 13 05:06:23 but you are essentialy one user the whole time? Mar 13 05:11:15 yup Mar 13 05:11:40 Sorry, am distracted by trying to wrap a few things up before bed. Mar 13 05:12:01 no problems here.. can't complain.. Mar 13 05:12:09 heading to bed now... Play with screen and try out irssi... Have fun! Mar 13 05:12:12 I will stop pestering. Mar 13 05:12:26 You weren't pestering. If you were, I'd have ignored you. :D Mar 13 05:12:55 thanks for all the help.. VERY much appreshated. Mar 13 09:08:58 Hi all. I'm thinking about getting a slug to use mostly as a file and small web server. I have a question though: Why not buy a mini-ITX board from Via? They only cost a few 10's of dollars more, and then you get a faster CPU, graphics board, and sound. Does the slug have any other advantages, except for the price? Mar 13 10:57:33 its smaller and has a certain geek factor ;-p Mar 13 10:58:15 ah and its only about 10 watt Mar 13 12:08:08 geek factor! Mar 13 18:35:43 has the drive-parition porblem with the debian installer been sorted for RC2? Mar 13 19:37:41 Hello Mar 13 19:56:15 caplink811 :) Mar 13 20:05:11 Is there anybody who can help me with an Debian update? Mar 13 22:25:30 Harry_S: Post your quandary. Someone may know. Mar 13 22:29:08 ~ask Mar 13 22:29:09 If you have a question, just ask, maybe someone have an answer... sometimes. Mar 14 02:56:15 I am wondering, is there any such thing as an EASY to set up and configure web server for the NSLU2? I only need it to serve ONE very minimal html page. The only options I currently see are apache, cherokee, and something called erl-yaws, all of which are designed to do everything and require lots of configuration. Aren't there any simpler options? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Wed Mar 14 03:00:00 2007
