**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sat Sep 15 02:59:57 2007 Sep 15 13:25:04 hello - anyone help me with open ssh? Sep 15 13:27:18 i need to be able to use SFTP with w windows client - it wont worky yet putty works fine Sep 15 13:27:22 can anyone spare a few minutes? Sep 15 14:18:07 Hi folks. My NSLU2, which has recently had the Unslung firmware installed (but unsling has not been run yet) seems to have stopped talking on its network interface... can't even ping it. Tried resetting the IP address with the reset switch to no avail. It's not appearing on either my configured IP address or the default one, and no extra entries have appeared in my DHCP server leases. Sep 15 14:18:54 This seemed to start after I installed the firmware, verified that I could log in with telnet and then rebooted with the intention of telnetting in and running unsling Sep 15 14:19:16 so it did successfully reboot at least once after having Unslung firmware installed Sep 15 14:19:47 It does seem to be up in that it goes through all of the usual beeps and flashes when powered on Sep 15 14:20:09 I don't seem to be able to get to the redboot telnet interface anymore, either Sep 15 14:20:15 but maybe I'm just doing that wrong Sep 15 15:28:48 My linksys control-panel says just "Formatted" instead of "Formatted (ext3)". Is that something I need to worry about befor installing unslung? Sep 15 15:31:02 yes Sep 15 15:31:10 it needs to be formatted in EXT3 Sep 15 15:33:07 I did use the slug's web-interface to format it. Sep 15 15:33:12 Brand new slug, brand new drive. Sep 15 15:47:36 Hmm. After I re-flashed with upslug2 and it rebooted, networking was working again, but I then rebooted it manually and networking has stopped working again Sep 15 15:47:39 Any ideas? Sep 15 15:49:28 maybe your slug is in dhcp mode Sep 15 15:49:44 fix it to static Sep 15 15:49:57 before rebooting Sep 15 15:50:33 okay... I'll give that a try. Thanks. Sep 15 15:51:04 if you can access it when you flash it, i don't see any other possibilitie Sep 15 15:52:27 I don't seem to be able to get it to reliably go into upgrade mode Sep 15 15:52:43 I got it to work once after lots of attempts, but I can't get it to do it again now Sep 15 15:53:21 The one time it worked when I hit the power button (with the reset switch pressed) the LED was amber rather than green, and then a few seconds later it went dark orange and I released the reset switch as instructed, and it worked Sep 15 15:53:33 but now I'm turning it on with reset switch depressed and it's just booting as normal Sep 15 15:53:39 with the LED green Sep 15 15:53:52 Is there some trick to getting upgrade mode to work? Sep 15 15:56:47 you mean that you can't boot in upgrade mode, even if you release when LED become dark orange? Sep 15 15:57:23 as far iremember, i don't know any other way to use this mode :s Sep 15 15:57:37 No, one time it *did* go dark orange and it worked, but now I can't get it to go dark orange Sep 15 15:57:45 it just turns on green, and boots as normal Sep 15 15:58:25 hum look better, count 10s and retry it (count 10 but release when led is darker) Sep 15 15:59:43 Isn't it supposed to come on with an amber light when the reset button is pressed? Sep 15 16:01:35 you press reset without realing, and you turn on the nas (ofc, you unpluged your hard disk drive before all). Around 10s after booting, led become dark ambre. Then you immediatly release reset button Sep 15 16:01:44 and you can use upslug or upslug2 Sep 15 16:02:11 It looks like it's just booting normally. It doesn't even go into the flashing amber "assign mode" as the wiki page says iy should if you leave the button pressed too long Sep 15 16:03:43 and now randomly it's just worked... weird Sep 15 16:03:54 I don't think I did anything differently. Oh well. :) Sep 15 16:03:59 what wiki do you actually read? Sep 15 16:05:30 I'm working from http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/UseTheResetButtonToEnterUpgradeMode Sep 15 16:06:55 you have someone close to you? :) Sep 15 16:07:31 ask him to check color changements about statut led, maybe you don't see it Sep 15 16:07:41 it's very light Sep 15 16:07:53 i had same problem at the begining, but now it's ok Sep 15 16:08:18 I noticed that it's hard to tell between the light and dark orange, but I'm quite confident that I can tell the difference between the green and amber Sep 15 16:08:46 When I do it successfully, the light is amber as soon as I turn it on, but when it doesn't work the light is green when I turn it on Sep 15 16:09:07 obviously when it starts amber then about 10 seconds later it does go a bit dimmer Sep 15 16:09:29 ok, i'm confused Sep 15 16:09:32 Anyway... it's finished flashing again, so I guess I'll try your earlier suggestion of checking its IP address while it's working! Sep 15 16:09:42 i hope so Sep 15 16:10:31 tell you problem to someone else here later, maybe they can help you if it still don't work Sep 15 16:10:36 good luck ;) Sep 15 16:10:40 Thanks :) Sep 15 17:02:45 23:02 < caplink811> [root@linus root]$ uptime Sep 15 17:02:46 23:02 < caplink811> 23:02:33 up 138 days, 12:13, 0 users, load average: Sep 15 17:02:58 19:01:38 up 6 days, 2:40, 1 user, load average: 1.04, 1.03, 1.00 Sep 15 17:03:48 poor me Sep 15 17:09:25 hehe Sep 15 18:43:01 When trying to backup my NSLU2 settings through the web interface, it says "no HDD installed, config backup is disabled". HDD is installed and working. Anyone else experience that? Sep 15 19:37:10 hey Sep 15 19:37:25 is there a way to create other samba shares apart from the default one? Sep 15 19:37:32 if yes, how? Sep 15 19:40:34 if u have acc to shell Sep 15 19:50:31 yeah Sep 15 19:50:32 how? Sep 15 19:50:42 i don't see any samba configuration files Sep 15 20:08:14 phil: what firmware? If unslung, the config files are in bits, and are (mostly) in /etc. But will be overwritten by the Linksys firmware at each boot. The wiki has details on how to overcome this, for those who are sufficiently determined. Sep 15 20:09:02 unslug Sep 15 20:09:10 oh, okay Sep 15 20:09:21 do you know which configuration file i have to look for? Sep 15 21:25:28 Frijj: it works now? Sep 15 22:48:52 Hi, would the slug be powerfull enoug to run a light x like fluxbox and wine utorrent? cause it's the only client allowed on a couple of trackers i'm on :S Or is there a way to make rtorrent report to the tracker as beeing utorrent? Sep 15 23:13:07 hi DiaboluZ Sep 15 23:13:35 i never heard about a tracker only compatible with a client bitorrent Sep 15 23:13:50 could you give me the page, to test it with rtorrent? Sep 15 23:13:59 i will answer you then Sep 15 23:15:27 i think that running X on a nslu2 is a waste of ressource, you should use it on a computer, and keep your slug for other downloads Sep 15 23:15:37 or other services Sep 15 23:33:37 PPmarcelpm? Sep 15 23:34:47 I know for a fact that libtorrent is banned, it says it in the status, and the owner told me just banned it cause to many people tried cheating with libtorrent... He's a friend of mine, so it's ok with him if i make rtorrent give a utorrent fingerprint to the tracker, but i don't quite know how :) Sep 15 23:41:56 hehe Sep 15 23:42:13 so it's not a nslu2 problem, but an rtorrent problem Sep 15 23:42:45 contact rakshasa himself Sep 15 23:42:47 yeah basicly it is, but my idea of an easy escape was to run x, even so as you said it yourself it is a huge waste of ressources... Sep 15 23:43:02 yes sorry :( Sep 15 23:43:13 you can't find another torrents? Sep 15 23:43:20 i mean on another tracker? Sep 15 23:43:33 and use a text bitorrent manager then Sep 15 23:45:23 well its a private tracker i loooove to be on, hehe... so would be a shame not to be on it, basically because i bought my slug 2 weeks ago in order to be able to seed more on that one tracker and save some $ on my electric bill... But hey, i found lots of other stufff the slug can be used for as well :D Sep 15 23:48:42 by contacting rakshasa you mean opening a ticket on his website or? Sep 15 23:49:43 hum, try if you really need it Sep 15 23:50:06 or else, if you just have some files to download, use your computer for that Sep 15 23:50:35 anyway the slug is slower when you download with it Sep 15 23:50:57 i actually have something like 22 files and cpu load is at 4 ^^ Sep 15 23:51:18 it make irc slower too Sep 15 23:51:32 but it still work, so i'm glad Sep 15 23:54:14 Well only thing i use my slug for right now is rtorrent, samba, proftpd and thttpd... Sep 15 23:54:40 considering a pbxes... but am sure i know way to little about linux to set one up wo work properly Sep 15 23:58:12 i run irssi, rtorrent, pure-ftpd, samba. But i'm actually waiting that someone fix debian-installer Sep 15 23:58:55 even if arm is a little project for debian, i don't believe that they need over 1 month to fix a bug in their installer Sep 16 00:01:11 why you need it to be fixed? perform the manual install? Sep 16 00:04:36 hum i think not Sep 16 00:04:51 i usually miss some details with nslu2 wiki Sep 16 00:05:01 and risk to brick my nas Sep 16 00:06:26 i go sleeping Sep 16 00:06:30 good night Sep 16 00:06:36 it's very easy to do the manual install... i just did it on 2 slugs... Sep 16 00:06:38 ok Sep 16 00:06:46 gn Sep 16 00:07:10 really? Sep 16 00:07:32 i think i'll be blocked at the microcode operation Sep 16 00:08:31 that's super easy... D: Sep 16 00:08:42 hum, tbh i don't understand all things Sep 16 00:08:48 some things* Sep 16 00:09:00 tell me what you don't understand, i will try and explain... Sep 16 00:09:25 can we do it tomorrow? :) Sep 16 00:09:36 Btw - you don't risk bricking your slug doing all that... You only risk to brick your slug while uploading the firmware to it... Sep 16 00:09:36 i'm really tired, i do mistakes Sep 16 00:09:53 ok Sep 16 00:10:02 hehe will try and get online tomorrow, but got work all day, so i don't know if i can make it Sep 16 00:10:19 i have my time Sep 16 00:10:26 even if it next week Sep 16 00:10:33 it is* Sep 16 00:10:47 bye bye Sep 16 00:11:40 see ya **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sun Sep 16 02:59:56 2007
