**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Oct 26 02:59:56 2007 Oct 26 19:10:40 heello Oct 26 19:11:29 I have a Debian NSLU Oct 26 19:11:53 And I would like to restore linksys original firmware, is it possible without using JTAG? Oct 26 19:13:39 sure... Oct 26 19:14:22 How can I do that? Oct 26 19:14:41 Do you have a link? Oct 26 19:14:59 have you done some research on the wiki? Oct 26 19:15:10 ~nslu2-wiki Oct 26 19:15:11 nslu2-wiki is probably the short-hand way of saying "Have a look at the NSLU2-Linux Wiki at http://www.nslu2-linux.org/". Oct 26 19:15:39 No, I haven't. I was looking first at the mailing list archives Oct 26 19:15:53 but couldn't think about the right search terms Oct 26 19:16:09 you may read http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/UseTheResetButtonToEnterUpgradeMode Oct 26 19:16:34 and use the sercomm tool, or upslug2, this depends on your os on your workstation Oct 26 19:17:07 the 1st is for windows, the latter for linuxoide os's Oct 26 19:18:46 Thanks a lot for the pointer caplink811. I was looking at the FAQ on the wiki and didn't see anything similar. Oct 26 19:19:10 Goo bye, and thanks again. Oct 26 19:19:25 np Oct 27 00:25:28 I have a problem getting in contact with my unslung nslu2 box after a power loss yesterday. I've removed the disks, powered the nslu2 on again and it boots nicely with green status and ethernet led. However, I cannot ping it, access it via the web interface, idenitfy it on the LAN on its normal address (192.168.1.150) or on the default address (192.168.1.77). Should I telnet into RedBoot, flash the linksys firmware and Oct 27 00:32:29 hmm Oct 27 00:33:05 does your router list it, possibly DHCP Oct 27 00:33:11 try scanning the network for it Oct 27 00:33:38 or just do the IP reset Oct 27 00:33:39 yea Oct 27 00:33:42 do that Oct 27 00:34:19 I think that is holding down the back button for 10 seconds Oct 27 00:49:03 Here's a question... when I'm trying to unsling to a hard drive, the drive will not be formatted by the web interface. It says it's formatting, but afterward is maintains it's "Not Formatted" status. Any thoughts? Oct 27 00:50:47 Format the drive elsewhere instead? Oct 27 00:51:08 can i format it through the telnet connection? Oct 27 00:51:17 (Alternately, ISTR a vague reference to being able to enable telnet on some version of the stock firmware...) Oct 27 00:51:38 Try fdisk, and if that works, mke2fs -j. Oct 27 00:53:28 maybe this is a dumb question, but how do I find out which drive is connected... hda hdb ? Oct 27 00:53:44 dmesg might tell you. Oct 27 00:54:08 Oh, and because it's usb, it'll probably be sda for the first disk attached. Oct 27 00:55:21 i had some success with that... thanks Oct 27 00:56:01 No problem. Best of luck. Oct 27 00:56:57 what would be the appropriate mke2fs command? mke2fs /dev/sda? Oct 27 00:57:38 I'd use -j as well, to get an ext3 filesystem... But I don't know how well that works for a 2.4 kernel, which ISTR unslung uses... Oct 27 00:59:02 writing inode tables... we'll see Oct 27 01:04:53 Hrmmm...I'm still coming up as not formatted Oct 27 01:05:17 Oh! Oops. Oct 27 01:05:42 fdisk /dev/sda, create a new primary partition the size of the disk, then mke2fs -j /dev/sda1. Oct 27 01:05:44 My mistake. Oct 27 01:06:16 okay... i'll check back in a few Oct 27 01:13:50 mke2fs: No such device or address while trying to determine filesystem size Oct 27 01:28:17 using telnet didn't really work for me... i gave it another reboot and it took the format **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Oct 27 02:59:56 2007
