Nov 08 07:09:29 I mean, I changed the IP address, did a /etc/init.d/networking restart, and now can't find it anymore! Nov 08 07:09:34 (it runs debian) Nov 08 07:09:48 I'm pinging broadcast, nmapping, but nothing. What can I do? Nov 08 17:19:37 hello Nov 08 17:19:44 anyone runs "munin" to collect system stats? Nov 08 17:54:22 greetings folks Nov 08 17:54:26 any gurus around? Nov 08 17:55:33 probably, just ask your question... someone will answer if they can Nov 08 17:56:29 My Slug is unslung.... boot drive crashed recently and I rebuilt on a new drive. When I plug the other drive in now (the big one that holds most of the data), the web-admin pages tell me it's not formatted. It is plugged in to a different port now, unslung to port 1 this time around, is that what's wrong? Have plugged the big drive (NTFS formatted) directly into PC, and all content is fine. Any ideas? Nov 08 17:57:13 The linksys/unslung firmware has a habit of saying it isnt formatted, when it is Nov 08 17:57:21 also, the shares don't seem to work any more, the slug is rejecting all connections, even after I delete & recreate all users and shares. Nov 08 17:57:36 will a power-cycle help with the unformatted issue? Nov 08 17:58:07 not necesserily Nov 08 17:58:20 I've had this myself, and spent ages running round in circles Nov 08 17:58:30 windows formatting, getting the slug to format it, it saying its failed.. Nov 08 17:58:31 mount can't find the drive either Nov 08 18:00:02 had the hardest time myself, trying to get the new boot drive recognised. Ended up in Windoze, formated NTFS then recreated the partition and didn't format it. THEN the slug would format and has been happy with it ever since. Don't really want to do that to the 400GB of data on this drive, tho! Nov 08 18:00:23 yeah, i was lucky... nothing on the flash drive.. Nov 08 18:00:57 Am I likely to have more luck if I start again and unsling to disk 2? Then the big data drive will end up on disk 1, where it was before. Nov 08 19:15:53 hi, is the nslu2 powerfull enough to run vpn, imap, ldap and spamassassin? Nov 08 19:20:16 Yay... NSLU2 reflashed using nslu2 Nov 08 20:06:37 My Slug is unslung.... boot drive crashed recently and I rebuilt on a new drive. Any ideas? Nov 08 20:06:56 , hoping newcomers might have an answer Nov 08 20:10:08 why did you unslung again? Nov 08 20:10:50 boot drive crashed, and I just couldn't get anything to work sensibly. Advice from this channel was to reflash and start afresh. Nov 08 20:11:30 well, if you had a linux machine you could've just tried to get everything over to the new disk and just plug it back into the nslu2 and all would be fine Nov 08 20:11:31 but Nov 08 20:11:37 you can't use a NTFS formatted disk Nov 08 20:11:57 but last week I could. Nov 08 20:11:57 since you are doing that Nov 08 20:12:12 ? Nov 08 20:14:33 sorry, I wasn't clear.... the OS etc was all on the boot drive, ext3 formatted by the Slug. The big 500GB NTFS-formatted brick doesn't (or shouldn't) contain anything OS-related, it was just data. Nov 08 20:15:04 ic Nov 08 20:15:15 and the boot drive was DEAD, my Ubuntu machine couldn't read it. Nov 08 20:15:40 so purchased new drive and started again, happy that all my critical data was safe. Nov 08 20:15:44 so now you can't read the 500GB disk? Nov 08 20:16:11 I can read it when it's plugged into a Windoze box, but the slug sees it as unformatted. Nov 08 20:16:39 well, first...I would take the time to backup this 500GB drive Nov 08 20:16:47 that occured to me! Nov 08 20:16:52 have you done it? Nov 08 20:17:33 it IS a backup drive.... the slug was basically a suck-up-the-data backup server. Would need to buy another drive, which probably isn't a bad idea anyway. Nov 08 20:17:59 I'd format the drive with the NSLU2 Nov 08 20:18:13 its just not a good idea to use NTFS drivers Nov 08 20:18:16 *drives Nov 08 20:18:49 you can then plug the drive into your PC with like a live linux distro Nov 08 20:18:54 and move the data back on it Nov 08 20:19:01 then put it back in the nslu2 Nov 08 20:19:16 I thought about that..... but I'd like to keep Windoze usability if at all possible. Nov 08 20:19:37 You can read ext3 in windows... Nov 08 20:19:51 I wondered.... could the problem be that it's in the "wrong" USB port? Is there any point in starting over again and unslinging to disk2 like before? Nov 08 20:20:04 are you plugging the ntfs drive into port 1? Nov 08 20:20:10 no, port2 Nov 08 20:20:13 ah Nov 08 20:20:16 that's your problem Nov 08 20:20:20 NTFS now only works on port1 Nov 08 20:20:25 ah-HA! Nov 08 20:20:30 but still Nov 08 20:20:34 ok, so a re-sling is in order Nov 08 20:20:34 I wouldn't recommend it Nov 08 20:20:34 lol Nov 08 20:20:54 I understand..... but it all worked so well before :) Nov 08 20:21:49 there are programs you can use to let windows read a ext3 drive Nov 08 20:22:09 but if you just map the drive to your PC Nov 08 20:22:15 why would you ever really need it connected Nov 08 20:22:48 and if you ever do for some reason, you can just pop in a live cd Nov 08 20:37:53 OK I'm convinced Nov 08 20:38:26 awesome Nov 08 20:38:45 Think i'll have to leave the actual reinstall of my debian nslu2 to the weekend.. Nov 08 20:38:49 but first I need another drive to back it up on to! So I guess for now I'll just unsling onto disk 2, so that at least I've got a fully functional Slug again. Maybe I'll even be able to connect to it from Windows again! Nov 08 20:42:27 looking forward to having my iTunes server running again! Nov 08 20:44:17 rebooted Slug with no drives attached. Should I now attach the unsling-target disk (to Disk 2) and tell the Slug web-admin thingy to format it for me? Nov 08 20:44:25 or do I need to do anything else first? Nov 08 20:44:50 just follow the instructions Nov 08 20:44:58 I'm not exactly sure where you are in the reinstall Nov 08 20:45:53 OK, back to the README Nov 08 20:46:12 :) Nov 08 20:51:09 drive is formatting... Nov 08 20:52:35 ...format done Nov 08 20:54:02 ..reflashing just for the heck of it Nov 08 20:55:17 is a RedBoot install a good idea, rather than just a re-flash? Nov 08 21:22:32 redboot reflash in progress... Nov 08 21:30:06 seems a little ott Nov 08 21:32:31 just a bit concerned that all my dicking around with users, groups & shares might contaminate the new install... so sanitising as best I can ;-) Nov 08 21:37:06 i can understand the os reflash, i'd do that Nov 08 21:37:26 Oh, you're reflashing via redboot, not reflashing the actual redboot? Nov 08 21:42:34 reflashing via redboot Nov 08 21:42:48 wouldn't know how to go any deeper than that! Nov 08 21:43:01 lol Nov 08 21:45:57 totally off-topic....if I install the X11 package, would I in theory be able to have a (remote) graphical desktop for my Slug? Kind of goes against the spirit of slugging, but might be worth playing with, one bored Sunday afternoon. Nov 08 22:52:12 I know the latest debian nslu2 installer is borked Nov 08 22:52:20 but using one of the older ones should be ok? Nov 08 22:52:37 debian-4[1].0r0 - Cant use that Nov 08 22:52:44 debian-etch-rc2-20070308 - But should that be ok? Nov 08 23:19:05 Or not.. Reading the posts.. Nov 08 23:19:06 lol **** ENDING LOGGING AT Fri Nov 09 02:59:57 2007
