**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed May 28 02:59:57 2008 May 28 04:30:34 doe anyone use transmission with their slug? May 28 07:04:29 hi, I have on my NSLU2 openWRT at the moment. I like it, because its small. But it seems, that the Package I need (owfs) is not available for openWrt. Iam thinking about changing to slugOS/BE. But in the list I have seen, that external storage is needed to install packages. How is the actual user experience of SlugOS. Are there packages like php, and ftdi-usb-sio (Usb to serial driver) available. I have mainly choosen OpenWRT because of its small am May 28 07:04:29 ount of necessary space, and that there are lots of packages available. And it has a new kernel, where the ftd-sio is maybe already in it. Whats the difference between openWrt and SlugOS/BE in practical ? May 28 07:29:01 doe anyone use transmission with their slug? May 28 07:50:23 skream: isnt that a torrentclient... , but well I dont :-) May 28 08:14:20 yeah it is May 28 08:14:44 are u using slug OS ? May 28 08:14:47 the wiki for transmission is ridiculous May 28 08:14:51 unslung 6.10 May 28 08:15:04 do u have good experiences with it ? May 28 08:15:31 unslung yes, i haven't tried any other OS's though May 28 08:15:33 I Run openWrt at the moment, but have package problems and think about changing to slug OS May 28 08:16:04 do u manage it via SSH ? May 28 08:16:13 yes May 28 08:16:36 and its necessary that you have an external USB Stick, right. How big is yours ? May 28 08:16:58 thats mainly why I ran openWRT , cause there is no external device necessary May 28 08:17:00 i use a 500gb external drive May 28 08:17:12 ah Ok :-) thats enough May 28 08:17:15 but you can use usb flash drives too if im not mistaken May 28 08:17:49 yes its possible to run from every kind of accessible media May 28 08:18:24 out of curiosity, what do you use your slug for? May 28 08:18:30 :-) well first i have to reset the device , to get the other OS on it.... What problem do u have with Transmission ? May 28 08:19:28 im curious bout which is better... transmission or rtorrent May 28 08:19:32 Iam using it for Controlling some house Sensors , temperature, and controlling the heating devices, warm water and so. Also its running as a small server, so that the big server does not have to run 24/7 May 28 08:19:47 interesting May 28 08:19:53 Well on another machine I run transmission (MAC) May 28 08:20:03 I never used rtorrent May 28 08:20:31 but shouldnt it just be >ipkg install transmission ?` May 28 08:20:34 do you use command line on the mac or does it have a gui May 28 08:20:46 it has a gui on the mac May 28 08:21:07 installing doesn't seem that simple May 28 08:21:24 but its installing ? May 28 08:21:36 then it might just be a matter of configuring ? May 28 08:21:47 your probably right May 28 08:22:08 its been a few weeks since i tried installing though May 28 08:22:11 so what problem do u have with it ? May 28 08:22:24 is it connecting ? May 28 08:22:27 i had to re-flash and i dont remember what the problem ws, other thn i couldnt figure it out May 28 08:22:43 mostly its a matter of firewalling May 28 08:22:52 or routing to the outside May 28 08:23:07 when programms can not access global network May 28 08:23:28 I have seen people go crazy with just that, because they thought its an internal problem May 28 08:23:29 i see May 28 08:23:46 but it was a problem of their router not letting the stream pass May 28 08:24:01 i want to give it nother go, but like i said the wiki is ridiculous May 28 08:24:26 it doesnt help thaat im fairly new to linux either May 28 08:24:53 hmm but shouldnt it be straight forward ? I mean when the package runs, and you can access the config files, it should be more or less self expplanatory May 28 08:25:09 ah ok.. May 28 08:25:29 so when u find the config files, that should not be too hard they should be in /etc May 28 08:26:04 then u just go in there and have a look what there is the default, and you just adapt it to your needs, and network structure May 28 08:26:13 the wiki also says is need lighttpd which i know nothing about May 28 08:26:18 it should run without problems then May 28 08:26:31 thats a webserver May 28 08:26:55 and if its dependant on it it should be installed with the package management automaticly May 28 08:26:56 i understand that, i jsut dont know what to do with it :) i would think httpd would be fine May 28 08:27:11 or you just do a > ipkg install lighttpd May 28 08:28:15 well it should run in the background however. If it needs a webserver there should be some sort of web based management May 28 08:29:09 there is May 28 08:29:14 i think its called clutch May 28 08:29:59 well I think you just go for peace by peace. If the web management part works then u can go to the next part. May 28 08:30:43 hehe im going to see if i can just get transmission to work first :) May 28 08:31:08 sometimes it takes hours :-) I know this kind of time consuming stuff May 28 08:31:51 yep, that would be a good first step... Just write here if you have more problems. Iam gonna reflash the device now, lets see... May 28 08:32:02 good luck May 28 08:32:05 thanks May 28 08:37:18 thanks, cu May 28 09:35:09 im trying to get transmission working with watchdog as a cron. which crontab do i need to put my entry in? (unslung 6.10) May 28 10:38:49 /etc/crontab May 28 16:46:46 hi, anybody experienced with Chrooting and openssh/dropbear? May 28 16:46:51 perhaps with rssh May 28 16:47:55 what about it ? May 28 16:48:25 I can't get it to work May 28 16:48:33 get what to work May 28 16:48:43 in openssh there is a setting ChrootDirectory, you can use it with %h May 28 16:48:50 it's pretty clear May 28 16:48:58 but it's not working May 28 16:49:00 oh. May 28 16:49:18 keeps giving me errors on 'bad ownership and/or modes' of dir May 28 16:49:23 sorry. i thought you meant chroot || sshd, not both at the same time May 28 16:49:28 dunno about that. google it up May 28 16:49:40 yeah I can't find it May 28 16:49:59 it's pretty picky about ownership and modes, but even it's al the way it should it won't work May 28 16:52:36 tell me about it May 28 16:52:50 i'm trying to get ssh to port forward on another platform and it wont work either.. May 28 17:36:30 hey i've a problem with debian on the nslu2 May 28 17:36:56 i used the unpack method http://www.cyrius.com/debian/nslu2/unpack.html May 28 17:37:54 but when i boot into the system it works .....but then after apt-get update or other commands there is a "bus error" and the error appears that my hd is not writeable May 28 17:46:51 hello May 28 17:47:04 which filesystem for 4x 500 GB HD? May 28 17:47:24 and which network file system?? May 28 17:47:29 for best performance? May 28 17:58:51 i use ext3 / nfs May 28 17:59:05 for 1x 500 **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu May 29 02:59:56 2008
