May 27 16:26:48 <mwester> Depending on your firmware, there is some support in the Linksys kernel with Unslung, but all new kernels lack that support.
May 27 16:28:07 <mwester> The fundamental issue is that it becomes very hard to know what physical USB port a device is connected to at the level of the kernel where it would know that it should blink an LED.  Which is not to say that it cannot be done, just that it would probably require a lot more coding, and CPU cycles, than it would really be worth.

May 27 16:31:58 <minidev> somewhere in /proc is an value bytes written/read for each disk.....  my disks are mounted by label.... maybe via shellscript which looks after taht value every second..... hrm, it'll generate a piece of load...... maybe like loadavg..... flashin on high load the last five minutes, blinking on normal, on when nearly idle
