**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed May 27 02:59:57 2009 May 27 06:26:32 morning May 27 06:27:09 I was wondering if someone could recommend a certain size with USB flash memories to be used with a slug May 27 06:29:04 Unslung wants 512MB USB flash stick, or larger. Other firmwares will work with any size USB flash stick you have. May 27 06:29:17 It just depends on how much data you intend to put on them. May 27 06:30:06 I'm thinking of using debian for the fs and another drive for storage May 27 06:31:50 no different from any other debian system, then. Just use the standard debian sizes you would use on anything else. May 27 06:35:35 do you think 1 or 2 or 4 G would be sufficient May 27 06:35:52 I have little idea about how much it needs May 27 06:37:57 I can't really say (I don't do debian). May 27 06:38:28 1 GB should do it, but it is debian after all, so you might need 2. If it doesn't fit in 2, then debian is even fatter than I thought. May 27 06:38:55 thanks May 27 06:39:16 I'm getting a slug today and a memory stick as well May 27 06:39:30 luckily memory is quite cheap nowadays May 27 16:18:52 has anyone built an led script? so the hdd leds are flickering on hdd access? May 27 16:26:09 That's a very hard thing to do. May 27 16:26:44 Most people dont need it as the drive/disk has led's that flash on them May 27 16:26:48 Depending on your firmware, there is some support in the Linksys kernel with Unslung, but all new kernels lack that support. May 27 16:28:07 The fundamental issue is that it becomes very hard to know what physical USB port a device is connected to at the level of the kernel where it would know that it should blink an LED. Which is not to say that it cannot be done, just that it would probably require a lot more coding, and CPU cycles, than it would really be worth. May 27 16:28:20 i#m running debian on my boxes May 27 16:28:36 i see May 27 16:29:03 Ok, then you have a relatively generic 2.6 kernel -- no easy way to do what you want to do. May 27 16:31:58 somewhere in /proc is an value bytes written/read for each disk..... my disks are mounted by label.... maybe via shellscript which looks after taht value every second..... hrm, it'll generate a piece of load...... maybe like loadavg..... flashin on high load the last five minutes, blinking on normal, on when nearly idle May 27 16:32:27 but you're right, are blinkenlights worht that coding and cycles? May 27 19:45:28 im having a very hard time getting transmission to autostart. ive read the wiki and tried various scripts, but im not having any success **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu May 28 02:59:58 2009
