**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Mar 28 02:59:56 2010 Mar 28 07:08:28 mwester: first of all, thanks a lot for your interest. second, all files i need to reach were under a username/password account in the Linksys (NOT a public area). i hook the hd to the desktop and all files/folders are visible. i try to open a JPG or DOC file and get this message: "Access to /media/disk//documents/photo.jpg was denied." Does that help, pls? Mar 28 07:10:10 Gwenview gives me this: "Loading '100.JPG" failed. Could not open file". Mar 28 09:50:21 mwester: following up on the previous note, i live in a house with single wlan and several apartments, so i could not leave my files in a public folder on the NAS. but i had same username/pwd on desktop linux, samba client and nslu2, which used to work just fine. does that change anything, pls? Mar 28 13:46:46 I'm running Debian on my Slug. I unplugged it to move to a new location, and it won't boot - it cycles the LEDs during the boot loader phase, and then the ethernet light stays on, but nothing else. Mar 28 13:46:57 I've removed the disk and put it into another machine just to make sure the disk is fine, and it is. Mar 28 13:47:00 Suggestions? Mar 28 13:48:40 I have tried removing the network cable for boot, and it has no impact, other than the ethernet light does not light up. Plugging it in again immediately lights it up. Mar 28 13:58:59 Lunar_Lamp: sure the psu aint borked? :P Mar 28 13:59:26 Well, lights illuminate, and it was working before I unplugged it - it's unlikely to be the PSU surely? Mar 28 13:59:33 Or is this how a PSU issue shows it's face? Mar 28 13:59:37 it can do Mar 28 13:59:52 if its a stock psu and its been doing duty for some time, Mar 28 14:00:04 Hmm. I guess it's worth a £15 gamble on a new PSU. Mar 28 14:14:11 mowgli_, on your desktop linux machine, you have to have an account that matches the one you created on your NSLU2. Or, you can override that by simply logging in as the super-user ("root"), or just use the "su" command to become the super-user. Then you can read *ANY* file, regardless of ownership or permissions. Mar 28 15:03:01 mwester: ok, will try when back home, thx. Mar 28 18:58:05 hi, all! my nslu2 is not responding. i had v.23r63 on, and suddenly the Ready/Status light started blinking continuously, and the only other light on was Ethernet. the Disk1 light was off, even though the disk was actually hooked. i have tried to manually reboot it, and nothing changed. I also tried Unslung, with the exact same result. with Debian-arm i got as far as the disk partitioning menu, but no disk was displayed for Mar 28 18:58:06 the formatting phase. i even tried two different kinds of usb hd, with no better results. what does it mean pls? i don't know what the machine is trying to tell me with the blinking Status light, and I don't know why no external hd is recognized. thx! Mar 28 20:03:28 is there any way i can test whether or not the usb ports are working correctly? could that possibly be the reason why external hd is not being recognized? Mar 28 20:05:23 ? Mar 28 21:20:22 are you still using the original powersupply? Mar 28 21:22:11 they're known to fail eventually. i think usb is one of the first things that stop working **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Mar 29 02:09:14 2010 **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Mar 29 02:44:14 2010 **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Mar 29 02:59:57 2010
