**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Aug 08 02:59:56 2010 Aug 08 17:22:42 hello everyone, I have recently gotten hold of a nslu2, and I am hoping to use it as a file server. It now runs slugos and samba properly. But i am also hoping to be able to stream video to my nexus one, and I can't figure out how to do it. Aug 08 17:26:20 I can view the files and download them to the phone with estrongs file explorer through samba, but it will download the whole file before playing. I also tried mediatomb and got it running, but i cannot find a upnp client for android that can play video Aug 08 17:31:14 however i was able to use the rtsp server called darwin streaming server to stream a video to the phone, would it be possible to get this or any other rtsp server to run on the nslu2? Aug 08 17:32:22 or, do you know anywhere else i can ask? Aug 08 17:47:02 streaming video on the slug would be pretty heavy on its resources eirik_ Aug 08 18:22:16 I have a nslu2 that I installed the unslung firmware on. I am looking to setup a spca500 based webcam on it, what packages do I need to install to accomplish this? Aug 08 18:22:19 I have a nslu2 that I installed the unslung firmware on. I am looking to setup a spca500 based webcam on it, what packages do I need to install to accomplish this? Aug 08 18:37:37 i am not planning to do any transcoding, i have encoded the files to a format the phone can play. Darwin streaming server said it used less than 2% of my cpu on my pc, when i was streaming a video and using the web interface at the same time Aug 08 18:37:42 atd Aug 08 18:40:02 also, when i was using mediatomb i could actually hear the audio from the video file i was viewing, so i think it actually did stream the Aug 08 18:40:12 whole file to my phone Aug 08 18:41:39 i also found there is a program called gst-rtsp, but i can't find a package to use on my slug Aug 08 18:46:43 perhaps you would have better luck asking about streaming to an android device in #android Aug 08 18:51:18 possibly, if i could find a new upnp client for android that would probably solve the problem Aug 08 18:52:27 But this is where I stand now: I downloaded the openembedded and bitbake files, and found there is a recipe called gst-rtsp Aug 08 18:53:09 but if i type opkg install gst-rtsp on my slug it says cannot find package Aug 08 18:53:52 i tried compiling it using bitbake, but it doesn't work Aug 08 18:55:51 It starts on a list of 2416 task, but it stops at a package called mesa Aug 08 18:57:16 just find some android app that can stream or mound from smb Aug 08 18:57:21 *mount Aug 08 18:57:59 that would mean rooting :( Aug 08 19:07:38 I am trying to install kernel-module-videodev through ipkg and keep getting the following error: Aug 08 19:07:51 Installing kernel-module-videodev (2.4.22.l2.3r63-r21) to root... Aug 08 19:08:58 ipkg install -force-depends kernel-module-videodev Aug 08 19:09:30 one of my friends just suggested using apache Aug 08 19:09:37 i will try that out Aug 08 19:13:25 apache is pretty heavy Aug 08 19:13:38 if that doesn't work out try lighttpd Aug 08 19:36:54 thanks for your help, i'll try setting up lighttpd Aug 08 19:46:08 is there a problem with the ipkg kernel repos? Aug 08 19:46:15 er kernel module repos? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Aug 09 02:59:57 2010
