**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Mar 10 10:59:57 2006 Mar 10 14:08:11 NAiL: ping Mar 10 14:08:56 you can see there's 97-ds101.patch in the cvs. I'd appreciate if you can test it in replacement ofr -pci -includes -setup Mar 10 15:48:14 03bzhou * 10unslung/make/erlang.mk: upstream upgrade to R10B-10 Mar 10 17:04:12 Hi Mar 10 17:04:51 I've just installed 2.6.16 from the MMF, but there seem to be a lot of iptables modules missing (along with good ol' ppp-synctty). Mar 10 17:05:24 How can I run make menuconfig on the mmf sources, then force a rebuild on the kernel with my config? Mar 10 17:06:17 I'm after ipt-conntrack, ipt-state and ipt-limit... Mar 10 17:13:07 philpem change the defconfig in openembedded/packages/linux/ixp4xx-kernel/2.6.16 Mar 10 17:13:44 is it possible to run menuconfig against that? Mar 10 17:13:46 what's your target? debianslug/openslug? Mar 10 17:13:51 openslug Mar 10 17:13:57 philpem i don't think so Mar 10 17:14:30 just add CONFIG_NET.... IPTABLES NOCLUE ;) to the defconfig Mar 10 17:14:31 failing that, is there a list anywhere of what module corresponds to what CONFIG_ parameter? Mar 10 17:14:47 yes Mar 10 17:14:57 kind of Mar 10 17:16:52 read ~/slug/openslug/tmp/work/ixp4xx-kernel-2.6.16-rc4-git9-r0.1/linux-2.6.15/net/ipv4/Kconfig Mar 10 17:18:10 or .,...net/ipv4/netfilter/Kconfig Mar 10 17:18:57 after you edited the defconfig, do rm -rf openslug/tmp/{work,stamps}/ixp4xx-kernel* Mar 10 17:19:01 ah, nailed it. just installed all the ipt* and xt-* modules - that got the script to shut up about missing mods :) Mar 10 17:19:41 wish i'd found out i only needed to zap work and stamps.. i just zapped the whole tmp tree Mar 10 17:20:32 i did that too yesterday. 5 minutes later marceln found out that you only need to remove one package to get the cross compile working again Mar 10 17:34:45 "nothing like a huge shotgun-install of every iptables module to solve a module dependency problem" Mar 10 17:35:59 :) Mar 10 17:51:35 Words of wisdom for today: Don't overtighten the screws on a Nexstar drive casing, unless you want the rubber feet to fall off... Mar 10 17:53:45 ;-) Mar 10 17:56:12 Hmm, there seems to be a lot of hackable Linksys hardware... Mar 10 17:56:25 * philpem eyeballs the WMA11B Mar 10 18:21:51 dwery: pong Mar 10 18:22:12 yeah, if I can repair my DS101, I'll get right on it ;) Mar 10 18:23:16 I picked up the JTAG cable today, but I haven't tried connecting it Mar 10 18:23:19 right, I forgot you had a problem with it Mar 10 18:23:26 (as I don't know which pin is what) Mar 10 18:23:26 playing with other NAS gear too, NAiL? :) Mar 10 18:23:34 philpem: of course :) Mar 10 18:24:29 * philpem has a selfbuilt xilinx Parallel III jtag cable, and knows the pinout 'cos it's scribbled on the PCB :) Mar 10 18:24:55 haha Mar 10 18:25:21 I know pin1 is vcc, pin6 is gnd, and all except pin8 are inputs Mar 10 18:25:32 what cable you using? Mar 10 18:25:46 I've got an olimex cable from sparkfun Mar 10 18:25:49 or are you trying to figure out what the pinout for the jtag on the nas is? Mar 10 18:25:59 s/nas/ds101/ Mar 10 18:25:59 philpem meant: or are you trying to figure out what the pinout for the jtag on the ds101 is? Mar 10 18:26:21 I'm trying to figure out what the last 5 pins are Mar 10 18:26:58 After that, I need to find out how to work the jtag magic :-P Mar 10 18:27:16 and i guess the cpu is a BGA, which makes it rather difficult to meter out :-/ Mar 10 18:27:16 NAiL: have you got any suggestion on how to find out the pinout? Mar 10 18:27:39 dwery: no. Not except the three I've already found. Mar 10 18:27:55 does the pinout + what you have found match any known pinout? Mar 10 18:28:54 not that I've found Mar 10 18:29:36 hmm, 1hr15m. my slug is doing better than usual since i u/g'd it to 2.6.16rc4 Mar 10 18:30:17 normally it would have frozen by now Mar 10 18:30:58 the one thing i do find unusual is that the load averages seem to hover at 0.0 on my x86 boxen, and 1.0 on the slug... Mar 10 18:31:23 hmm.. I wonder if the 20-pin connector on my speedtouch 510i is a JTAG port :-P Mar 10 18:31:42 NAiL: 20 pins seems a bit much for jtag. Mar 10 18:31:59 well, the JTAG-cable I have has a 20-pin connector Mar 10 18:32:05 if it's got a coldfire cpu, it could be BDM. Mar 10 18:32:11 10 or so is GND Mar 10 18:32:28 heavily shielded jtag :) Mar 10 18:33:06 if this damn fujitsu modem gives me any more bother, i'm buying a second-hand speedtouch330 to replace it. Mar 10 18:33:43 (on the grounds that 'at least the linux speedtouch drivers are stable') Mar 10 18:36:49 I need to figure out how the fsck to configure this speedtouch to be routing instead of bridging ;) Mar 10 18:37:10 so I can get online with my laptop, and continue development ;) Mar 10 19:06:41 hi, does anyone know what distribution of Mono i could run on an Unslung nslu2? Mar 10 19:08:03 i can see its on thte PackageWishList Mar 10 19:08:21 does that mean its not possible at the moment? Mar 10 19:14:08 philpem: the 1.0 loadavg is because of the ixp network driver. It's just busywaiting so it's harmless Mar 10 19:14:40 unloading the ixp-modules will drop the loadavg to 0, but you'll lose network ;) Mar 10 19:18:04 noone that tried the Mono port of JIT engine to ARM? Mar 10 19:18:28 im not sure if it will run on unlslung or openslug or if ill have to install debian Mar 10 19:20:09 no, I don't think anyone has, yet Mar 10 19:20:51 hmm ok Mar 10 19:21:01 feel free to try :) Mar 10 19:21:12 heh ye =) Mar 10 19:21:22 found this Mar 10 19:21:22 With the machine at 266Mhz compiling Mono 1.1.9 (which includes building the C runtime with gcc and compiling the C# code for the 1.x and 2.x profiles) takes about 9 hours. Mar 10 19:21:29 :-o Mar 10 19:21:34 but i think thats on debian Mar 10 19:22:57 well, it should be faster on openslug then ;) Mar 10 19:23:25 hmm i just got my nslu2 so its currently running unslung Mar 10 19:23:59 ohh its lupus who did it (lead dev on mono and dev on debian) Mar 10 19:24:05 I never saw the webinterface on my slugs :-P Mar 10 19:24:40 I packed out the units and flashed them directly :) Mar 10 19:24:55 hi y'all Mar 10 19:25:00 hiya, pepijn Mar 10 19:25:04 hello Mar 10 19:25:23 i bet you did tho Mar 10 19:25:41 192.168.0.77/Management/telnet.cfi ;-) Mar 10 19:25:43 z0mb: you could try crosscompiling mono though :) Mar 10 19:25:45 cgi Mar 10 19:25:50 nah, flashed from redboot ;) Mar 10 19:25:56 oh Mar 10 19:26:17 ok it said in the installer not to do that so i figured i better not :-) Mar 10 19:26:41 I'm a daredevil :-P Mar 10 19:27:41 I can't remember why I got one in the first place, but it was a darn good idea ;) Mar 10 19:28:01 hehe Mar 10 19:28:11 mine is running slimserver Mar 10 19:28:15 for my squeezebox 3 Mar 10 19:28:23 damn nice piece of hardware both Mar 10 19:30:21 I'm hoping I'll get my ds101 fixed soon Mar 10 19:30:29 It's a rather nice piece of hardware too Mar 10 19:30:37 wuzat? Mar 10 19:30:55 It's like a slug, only with an internal IDE-interface, 64mb ram and 16mb flash Mar 10 19:31:21 unfortunately, it is no longer available Mar 10 19:31:33 (and I bricked mine by overwriting redboot on it) Mar 10 19:32:02 hehe daredevil? Mar 10 19:33:12 no, I pressed enter instead of backspace while trying to flash a kernel Mar 10 19:33:29 ouch Mar 10 19:33:46 why do the place those buttons so damned close to eachother, huh? Mar 10 19:33:55 how high was the *duh* level? Mar 10 19:34:03 duh! Mar 10 19:34:30 I've got a JTAG cable now though, so I might be able to fix it Mar 10 19:34:41 k Mar 10 19:34:50 the duh-level was initially low. The panic-level was very high though Mar 10 19:35:06 has nyone tried increasing mem on a slug? Mar 10 19:36:12 Yeah, a few has tried Mar 10 19:36:17 some have succeeded Mar 10 19:36:31 Mine is currently dead, but I think that's just bad soldering Mar 10 19:36:38 k ill start by de-underclocking it this weekend then ill see Mar 10 19:36:46 yup Mar 10 19:38:42 it cant be cross compiled Mar 10 19:38:56 according to caplink Mar 10 19:39:04 if my german isnt too rusty ;-) Mar 10 19:39:05 mono? Mar 10 19:39:07 mm Mar 10 19:39:31 mono is starting to compile itself at some stage of the make Mar 10 19:39:33 what the %&##& is a "Speicherfresser" Mar 10 19:39:40 Mwahaha. Back online at last :) Mar 10 19:39:42 me pig Mar 10 19:39:45 mem Mar 10 19:39:51 this means mem waster ;) Mar 10 19:39:52 hehe Mar 10 19:40:06 in what way? Mar 10 19:40:16 hi philpem, any luck with new(er) kernel? Mar 10 19:40:26 its hungry or it doest release it again? Mar 10 19:41:05 seems that it is hungry Mar 10 19:41:13 it's hungry during "operation" Mar 10 19:41:39 caplink811_log: it seems lupus has done it tho Mar 10 19:41:47 on debian port Mar 10 19:41:58 9 hours on a 266 Mar 10 19:42:23 my try ran out of memory and swap space after 6 hours, so i did try that again Mar 10 19:42:37 s/did/didn't/ Mar 10 19:42:38 caplink811_log meant: my try ran out of memory and swap space after 6 hours, so i didn't try that again Mar 10 19:42:55 lol nerdz Mar 10 19:42:56 ~botsnack Mar 10 19:42:56 caplink811_log: :) Mar 10 19:42:57 :-) Mar 10 19:43:36 does it understand regular expressions as well?? ;-) Mar 10 19:43:56 imho only search and replace Mar 10 19:44:33 * zomb1e slaps a large trout around a bit with jbot, now you know how it feels. Mar 10 20:04:39 pepijn, this http://pastebin.com/595070 is more related to that problem Mar 10 20:04:56 * AwayNAiL goes offline to upgrade the router Mar 10 20:06:35 i needed the first one, build proceeds now Mar 10 20:06:37 thanks Mar 10 20:06:48 (got the otherone fixed by a complete rebuild) Mar 10 20:07:31 pepijn: wanna try debian-installer? Mar 10 20:08:31 tbm: sure... got a memory stick that badly needs debian ;) Mar 10 20:08:47 pepijn: well, it should work now Mar 10 20:09:09 you updated the webpage? or are you just refering to the build itself? Mar 10 20:09:28 i mean, it still does what it you told earlier? Mar 10 20:09:34 and build fixed? Mar 10 20:09:39 the image is fine. a package in the archive got fixed Mar 10 20:09:43 what did you tell me earlier? Mar 10 20:09:45 or is there actually added funcionality? Mar 10 20:09:58 k, then i follow you Mar 10 20:10:15 can you clarify? what was it that you told me? Mar 10 20:10:29 you told me, not the other way around ;) Mar 10 20:10:42 you updated me on the status of the project Mar 10 20:11:02 I said yesterday that the installation currently doesn't work at all. This is fixed now Mar 10 20:11:17 but there's no added functionality (e.g. no RTC, no rescue function, etc) Mar 10 20:11:46 k, but got that from the 'package in archive got fixed' bit Mar 10 20:11:55 yeah Mar 10 20:12:38 you want me to build, or just use the binary image? Mar 10 20:17:55 binary image Mar 10 20:18:49 debian-etch-beta2-20060216.zip from slug-firmware.net ? Mar 10 20:19:14 yeah Mar 10 20:19:38 so the date is not the actual build date then :-P Mar 10 20:20:30 it is. like I said, the image is fine. a package in the debian archive had to be fixed Mar 10 20:20:42 oh yeah, right Mar 10 20:20:49 it downloads the stuff from the net Mar 10 20:21:23 (i did run early versions of d-i about two years ago, building too, for PPC old and newworld machines) Mar 10 20:30:43 i'll run the image thru slugimage and use http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/TestAnImageInRamUsingRedBoot Mar 10 20:40:30 is there a maximum size for the rootfs in the flash image? Mar 10 20:44:24 6946800Bytes? Mar 10 21:01:51 There is a map of the flash memory. Mar 10 21:02:04 There is 8 mb of flash Mar 10 21:02:41 Some is reserved for the bootloader and configuration. Mar 10 21:02:45 http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Info/BootFlash this one? Mar 10 21:03:43 Yes. Mar 10 21:06:10 well, my rootfs is 6291456 bytes Mar 10 21:06:22 and it seems like it's not booting correctly Mar 10 21:06:42 maybe it's just the cherokee package that makes it fail. Mar 10 21:06:48 i'll never know ;) Mar 10 21:20:34 get a serial console ;) Mar 10 21:33:21 * ByronT-Away is now auto-away after 3h idle Mar 10 22:03:23 whats up with the dropbear bb-files? i got: unparsed line: 'dropbear.inc' whiling parsing /dropbear_0.45.bb, 0.46 and 0.47 Mar 10 22:03:47 hehe, that is the recurring question of the evening Mar 10 22:04:17 use sed -i s/require/include/g *.bb as a quick fix Mar 10 22:04:28 (http://pastebin.com/595056) Mar 10 22:06:05 hi all. how feasible is it to port the nslu2-linux stuff to an x86-based machine? Mar 10 22:06:22 why would you do that? Mar 10 22:06:28 I want to use my EPIA as a file server Mar 10 22:06:36 EPIA? Mar 10 22:06:46 Via EPIA. Mini-itx :) Mar 10 22:06:47 VIA EPIA; 600mhz fanless x86 board Mar 10 22:06:48 yeah Mar 10 22:07:01 just get samba binaries for i386 ? Mar 10 22:07:11 sure, but I want the pretty web management stuff Mar 10 22:07:20 samba and NFS are trivial otherwise, though, I agree Mar 10 22:07:45 You won't get the webinterface ported Mar 10 22:07:54 IIRC, the webinterface is a binary blob Mar 10 22:08:01 neat Mar 10 22:08:04 (ie, one big CGI) Mar 10 22:08:06 this is unslung then? Mar 10 22:08:18 pepijn, I'm not really sure what my options are. Mar 10 22:08:28 slugos-* doesn't have a webinterface, so I'm assuming it's unslung Mar 10 22:08:28 are there any FOSS distributions for the NSLU2 that have their own cgiblob? Mar 10 22:08:33 thanks, pepijn! Mar 10 22:08:52 np, sinclair, was stuck with it myself earlier ;) Mar 10 22:09:01 joshua_: no. Only unslung has a webinterface. Nobody has made a webinterface for slugos-* Mar 10 22:09:47 ah, OK Mar 10 22:10:14 You could install debian and use webmin ;) Mar 10 22:10:42 that's not that pretty though ;) Mar 10 22:11:26 nah, only 128mb of CF, heh Mar 10 22:11:53 howdy joshua_ Mar 10 22:11:56 hi jacques Mar 10 22:12:15 how goes? Mar 10 22:12:51 pretty well - I got a job doing embedded devel, at least 80% linux Mar 10 22:12:57 neat! Mar 10 22:13:08 yeah, I am really happy about that Mar 10 22:13:46 I just did a board bring-up - linux on a freescale MPC8245 custom board Mar 10 22:14:06 cool! Mar 10 22:15:26 there was an in-house bootloader they had written, so I was able to use the source for that to get u-boot going (memory config registers mostly) Mar 10 22:17:08 aha Mar 10 22:17:44 today it built perl :-) Mar 10 22:18:23 cool! Mar 10 22:19:19 now I gotta learn about performance tuning - we are trying to replace a tiny OS (ucos) with linux, and so far the usb and tcp numbers aren't looking so hot :-\ Mar 10 22:23:26 hello. can somebody help me with enabling loopback-device functionality on unslung5.5 ? Mar 10 22:27:48 hello. can somebody help me with enabling loopback-device functionality on unslung5.5 ? Mar 10 22:29:50 bundas, what are you trying to do? Mar 10 22:29:58 loop mount a filesystem image? Mar 10 22:30:27 no, I want to swap over NFS Mar 10 22:30:39 The loop module is build for unslung 6.7 Mar 10 22:30:54 (swapon dont allow swapping directly with a swapfile over NFS) Mar 10 22:31:27 ok, I'm a bit surprised the loop module isn't available for 5.5 Mar 10 22:32:15 should I consider trying 6.x? Mar 10 22:33:13 It will go beta very soon Mar 10 22:33:20 bundas, I would say yes Mar 10 22:34:01 yay!! mars orbiter achieved orbital insertion Mar 10 22:36:24 being unrealistic, the best would be if someone with an existing build environment could create a loop module and losetup (busybox or standalone)... (right now) (just dreaming) :) Mar 10 22:37:37 I could send you the loop module for unslung 6.7. Mar 10 22:38:05 i just got my slug, and i'm into tinkering. i look into 6.7... Mar 10 22:38:11 I have a running 6.7 build enviroment with flash image and kernel modules. Mar 10 22:38:42 i assume busybox has losetup enabled in 6.7... Mar 10 22:40:00 That seems a other missing feature as well. Mar 10 22:40:37 But running unslung over nfs isn't a starter feature as well. Mar 10 22:41:33 ah Mar 10 22:41:42 * NAiL has finished installing Debian on his GWslug Mar 10 22:42:19 i want to run unslug from a flash drive, but i just dont want to swap to it... Mar 10 22:43:58 so in 6.7 there is a loop module, but i cannot losetup? (just use mount) Mar 10 22:47:22 ~ # mount -o loop /tmp/swap /mnt Mar 10 22:47:22 ~ # df /mnt Mar 10 22:47:22 Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on Mar 10 22:47:22 /dev/loop0 15863 13 15031 0% /mnt Mar 10 22:47:28 It seems to work Mar 10 22:47:44 Do you need swap? Mar 10 22:48:05 You could disable it and see if you need more then the 32mb of memory Mar 10 22:51:46 I am trying to build slingbox with losetup now Mar 10 22:53:05 i only have circa 10 MB free mem on a just inslunged nslu, so i assume i need swap if i load some additional packages... Mar 10 22:53:30 s/inslunged/unslunged/ Mar 10 22:53:30 bundas meant: i only have circa 10 MB free mem on a just unslunged nslu, so i assume i need swap if i load some additional packages... Mar 10 22:55:37 jbot, well aren't you ... clever Mar 10 22:56:01 (nice bot, sure.) Mar 10 22:58:22 * philpem wonders if it would be possible to squeeze ettercap and a tiny webserver into the flashfs on a slug Mar 10 22:59:05 marceln: can you please try makeing a swapfile in your just created loop-mounted /mnt? Mar 10 23:00:23 because if it works, we just need the loop kernel module, but we dont need losetup... Mar 10 23:00:52 philpem, how big is ettercap? Mar 10 23:02:32 nfs-mount a dir, from that loop-mount a filesystem image, from that swapon a swapfile. i wonder what the speed would be... :) Mar 10 23:04:30 (if someone makes a losetup enabled busybox, we could skip the loop-mounted filesystem image part) Mar 10 23:08:09 I have a proof of concept Mar 10 23:08:37 is it like the above? Mar 10 23:10:03 No. I added losetup to slingbox. Mar 10 23:12:08 If performance is an issue and you have a specific application you want to run i would use a more dedicated setup. Mar 10 23:12:36 Probably ucslug could save a lot of memory and you could run without swap. Mar 10 23:16:33 jacques: about 400K plus the pcap libraries Mar 10 23:16:45 but that's including all the docs and stuff Mar 10 23:17:08 performance in not an issue right now, i just wondered how i could do swapping over the network, because 10 MB isnt looked like much memory Mar 10 23:17:35 something like this could be neat: http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=security/wallofshame Mar 10 23:26:25 I just sent a request to the developers list to enable losetup in slingbox. Mar 10 23:26:45 great. Mar 10 23:26:58 i have to go now, thx marceln! bye! Mar 10 23:27:02 But in any case you have to upgrade to ubsling 6.x, Mar 10 23:27:31 I leave as well. Bye everyone Mar 10 23:27:31 i don't think thats a probleb, thx again. :) Mar 10 23:27:41 s/probleb/problem/ Mar 10 23:27:42 bundas meant: i don't think thats a problem, thx again. :) Mar 10 23:38:29 btw, does anyone know of a tiny ftp-server? Mar 10 23:44:07 NAiL: been using pureftpd on some of the servers i admin, but i don't know if you'd call it small... Mar 10 23:44:49 I've just installed proftpd, but I was wondering if anyone knew of anything a tad smaller Mar 11 00:08:51 i'm toying with the idea of installing cherokee or apache Mar 11 00:09:07 probably cherokee, apache might be a bit too much for the slug to bear :) Mar 11 00:12:10 does anyone in here use python on unslung? Mar 11 00:18:33 uhm.. if i want to add some misc. files to a flashimage, what's the best way to do so? creating a tar with all the files and create a .bb file which is added to slugos-packages.conf and slugos.conf? or is there some standard-way? Mar 11 00:43:56 EvilDevil - It's goot question I have this problem too... I have couple of bb files for slugos I tried send infos to nslu2-linux mailing list (no respone) I sent them to OE bugtracking systm but ist't best way... Mar 11 00:50:20 no, i just want to create a custom flashimage for myself Mar 11 01:12:21 Yes. You should to have a tarbal with you files (usually sourcefiles) creat bb file and add them to slugos.conf. If you add them to slugos-packages.conf yours files go to ipk package. Mar 11 01:17:34 don't you need to add the .bb file to slugos-packages.conf to let bb know, that it is available for openslug ? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Mar 11 10:59:56 2006
