Apr 11 11:17:50 i'm not building for mobile devices so i don't want bluez, usb, wlan etc. and all these stuff Apr 11 11:18:11 mrt2k7 you could look at the .bb and build your own x11-image Apr 11 11:24:44 woglinde: thanks, now i see why there's so much stuff in x11-image. i thought this is just minimal Apr 11 11:24:53 nope Apr 11 11:25:08 its heavy Apr 11 11:25:09 actually it's quite similar to x11-gpe-image Apr 11 11:25:36 you could do your own tasks and your own image Apr 11 11:26:34 i'll try that when I find a working build config for X...some problems with qemu, maybe 32/64 bit related Apr 11 11:27:28 you could look at my stuff for an minimaler opie-image Apr 11 11:27:31 http://pastebin.ca/980895 Apr 11 11:27:32 and Apr 11 11:28:18 http://pastebin.ca/980897 Apr 11 11:28:21 hi thesing Apr 11 11:28:39 morning al Apr 11 11:29:19 is opie QT? Apr 11 11:30:01 mrt2k7: no Apr 11 11:30:09 mrt2k7: it has used a certain version of Qt Apr 11 11:30:48 so it is or was based on QT? Apr 11 11:38:27 opie used qt/e 2.3.xx Apr 11 11:38:42 hrw hm Apr 11 11:38:44 uses Apr 11 11:38:54 the development is dead Apr 11 11:38:56 woglinde: ah.. I forgot that it is still used Apr 11 11:39:10 means not that opie is now unavailable Apr 11 11:39:43 does someone has angstrom image for nokia800 (or nokia770) available? Apr 11 11:40:20 hrw I think yes Apr 11 11:40:47 with opie nearly dead and gpe quite ugly we should get a new gui in oe for pda devices. Apr 11 11:41:08 thesing: Sato is nice but require VGA+ Apr 11 11:41:18 thesing qtopia 4.4 Apr 11 11:41:24 thesing: do you have too much of free time? ;) Apr 11 11:41:49 * hrw plays with n800 emulation - Sato looks nice on wvga ; Apr 11 11:41:50 ) Apr 11 11:42:09 hrw: did anybody try with a 320x240 screen? Apr 11 11:42:34 thesing: iirc yes. results are ugly Apr 11 11:43:34 florian: no I'm busy with kernel stuff and I really appreciate the work you put into gpe, but well. Apr 11 11:44:00 florian: the apps are not bad its only the "desktop" I don't like. Apr 11 11:45:09 thesing: add me to this opinion... intended to replace it for ages, but for soem reason i didn't start this yet Apr 11 11:45:54 maybe I just use the launcher from g(pe)^2 and bash it into shape Apr 11 11:46:04 we all have to less free time ;) Apr 11 11:48:13 mickey|brkfast: it is lunch time rather Apr 11 11:48:55 RP: what do you think about http://www.pastebin.ca/980910 ? Apr 11 11:49:30 hrw: I will get breakfast too :) Apr 11 11:50:30 zecke guten appetit Apr 11 11:50:45 hrw: I just used my n810 as a vnc frontend to eepc, very fun Apr 11 11:50:58 * florian breakfast too Apr 11 11:51:11 * XorA is breaking from the pack and gets lunch Apr 11 12:03:21 breakfast for me, lunch for EU Apr 11 12:03:27 thesing: Adding inline functions like that to the header is going to get frowned upon. We probably need some functions in a common file in mach-pxa :/ Apr 11 12:04:47 hi crfoton Apr 11 12:04:50 hi rp Apr 11 12:07:07 RP: I read somewhere in Documentation that this is the preferred way to do this. But why a file in mach-pxa? Did you notice that I added soft reset functionality to the battery switch? Apr 11 12:20:21 thesing: like it was in 2.4? Apr 11 12:20:39 hrw: yes. Apr 11 12:21:18 hrw: but only for SA1100 because I don't know how to restart PXA. Apr 11 12:22:24 hrw: this soft reset is "suspend when switch is flipped and restart after resume" Apr 11 12:34:52 thesing: inline functions are fine for certain situations but here, there should really be a set of functions for sa1100 and a set for pxa, contained in the mach directories Apr 11 12:35:18 RP: Remember my issues with meta-toolchain and the sanity failures on glib and such :) Apr 11 12:35:39 thesing: I don't really like that behaviour, its in the old system due to it driving the menus in the bootloader, we don't need it in our kernel Apr 11 12:35:51 zecke: vaguely Apr 11 12:36:56 RP: my 'native' dir is i686-linux, my cross dir is 'i686-native', when building a cross package that does not inherit native, insanity will barf on the 'native' files... Apr 11 12:37:16 RP: I'm not sure if the bug is with cross and native sharing the same dir, or if we want to shutup insanity not to barf on cross builds Apr 11 12:38:31 RP: I like it because sometimes an application dies and freezes the screen. And its faster to flip the switch then pressing the reset button. And if you only want to suspend the device you can press the power button. Apr 11 12:38:36 zecke: You can't do sdk builds with host=target :( Apr 11 12:38:50 zecke: I tried to fix that by setting the vendor but it breaks Apr 11 12:39:03 zecke: This is why poky uses i586 for qemux86 Apr 11 12:39:52 RP: hmm, that used to work... MACHINE = neo, bitbake meta-toolchain used to work Apr 11 12:39:59 RP: that is a big regression ;) Apr 11 12:40:36 (I don't know how evil cross.bbclass is though) Apr 11 12:41:10 zecke: hmm. Is it cross or sdk.bbclass thats the problem? Apr 11 12:41:31 I'm lost of with which tweaks are in poky and which are in OE :/ Apr 11 12:46:23 zecke: Is the problem not the breadth of packages meta-toolchain is pulling in for OM? Apr 11 12:47:01 zecke: "meta-toolchain used to work" should become a slogan or something hehe ;) Apr 11 12:47:19 it gets broken perpetually Apr 11 12:48:48 * RP resists the urge to start ranting Apr 11 12:48:52 :) Apr 11 12:50:14 RP: no idea. I'm on i686 cure duo (not duo 2), I have angstrom as distro, the neo as machine, meta-toolchain is breaking, see my older mail for the breakage Apr 11 12:50:25 btw regarding meta toolchain, an interesting observation Apr 11 12:50:33 let's say I build it on my machine with my user account Apr 11 12:50:42 zecke_: That setup works in poky Apr 11 12:50:53 and then I give the external toolchain to someone who also happens to have the user account with the same name on his machine Apr 11 12:50:57 but who is actually not using it Apr 11 12:51:01 florian, mickey|brkfast, zecke: good morning Apr 11 12:51:20 then the stuff does not work! because it tries to stat the directory of the user who originally built it Apr 11 12:51:28 and if the directory exists but permission is denied - it does not work Apr 11 12:51:34 if the directory does not exist on the system - it works Apr 11 12:51:37 anyone noticed that? Apr 11 12:51:54 RP: well, in this case I use OE and not poky ;) Apr 11 12:52:21 as a workaround I build it under some obscure usernname/path that is not likelky to be available on the customers system, but still strange why that happens in the first place Apr 11 12:52:24 Jin^eLD: That "shouldn't happen" Apr 11 12:52:51 RP: that's also my guess... but the toolchain stuff is such a nightmare.. not sure how to even figure this issue out Apr 11 12:52:55 zecke_: I do realise that, My point was that there must be some difference between OE and Poky Apr 11 12:53:28 RP: hehe Apr 11 12:53:32 re Apr 11 12:53:36 hi florian Apr 11 12:53:43 I wish we had money to through at tool chain issues :( Apr 11 12:53:56 RP: uh, what did i break? Apr 11 12:53:59 RP: with my GPRS connection I can not even consider getting poky :( Apr 11 12:54:01 pb_: hi! Apr 11 12:54:51 Jin^eLD: aeh? with meta-toolchain? Apr 11 12:54:55 zecke_: yes Apr 11 12:55:39 zecke_: build a meta toolchain as user "A", install it system wide, then switch to user "B" who should not be able to access the home of user "A" (i.e. the directory where the toolchain was built) and then try building something as user "B" - it will fail :> Apr 11 12:55:50 if you remove user "A" directory then user "B" will be able to build Apr 11 12:55:58 I ran into this issue two times already Apr 11 12:56:01 really weird crap Apr 11 12:56:45 zecke_: The difference is sdk.bbclass - poky does HOST_VENDOR=TARGET_VENDOR, oe does not Apr 11 12:57:09 zecke_: That change "breaks" gcc-cross-sdk as you reported so I reverted it in OE Apr 11 12:57:37 zecke_: The problem is the same staging being used for native and sdk builds and they need to be separate. Apr 11 12:58:04 zecke_: You now know what the problem is ;-) Apr 11 12:58:25 RP: yes, sharing the staging dir... Apr 11 12:58:25 and insane.bbclass is correct, something is badly wrong Apr 11 12:58:49 doing that does break stuff and they mustn't use the same dir Apr 11 13:04:18 morning Apr 11 13:05:27 hi chouimat Apr 11 13:05:43 RP: hmm full disk... let me build again this is taking some hours. What is stopping us to add sdk-i686-native to the staging dir? Apr 11 13:06:57 zecke: Nothing in particular, just someone finding the time to tweak sdk.bbclass and make it coexist nicely with multimachine.bbclass Apr 11 13:07:11 zecke: or make multimachine.bbclass the default... Apr 11 13:07:43 zecke: meta-toolchain won't work without multimachine anyway Apr 11 13:07:53 crap Apr 11 13:08:12 Jin^eLD issue can be explained with using the native dir, this might introduce all weird stuff :( Apr 11 13:08:47 mhm Apr 11 13:19:20 what is the arm machine that is most commonly used in angstrom? i.e. something I can test vs. if I want to find/report a bug, something that "must" work? need arm eabi with uclibc Apr 11 13:19:23 I had some weird issues with my setup Apr 11 13:19:28 now want to retry with vanilla OE Apr 11 13:24:21 Jin^eLD: qemuarm is nice one to test Apr 11 13:24:30 thx, let me try it then Apr 11 13:44:01 http://blog.haerwu.biz/2008/04/11/nokia-n800-emulation/ Apr 11 13:58:18 hrw: very nice! Apr 11 13:58:19 hrw: I did stumble upon Cliff's web site. Lots of great info on his blog about RT and OE.. Apr 11 13:58:45 VoodooZ: read http://planet.linuxtogo.org/ then Apr 11 13:58:45 * VoodooZ is refering to yesterday's RT linux question.. Apr 11 13:59:29 hrw: thanks. More brain food! Apr 11 14:00:14 I did implement the HighRes timers in my control loop and it does wonder for killing the jitter. I can't wait to see the other RT changes in kernel 2.6.25+ Apr 11 14:00:22 we need to clean up OE website ;( Apr 11 14:00:59 hrw: and now I know what you look like! :) Apr 11 14:10:14 VoodooZ: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dawidgatti/2396112126/ is me Apr 11 14:29:48 hrw: cool. Apr 11 16:11:06 hrw: i added a -usb -usbdevice wacom-tablet to qemu, but i think this is useful when one as a wacom tablet, isn't it? i just want /dev/input/mice to be used in X ;) Apr 11 16:11:51 now i have a calibration screen but nothing to calibrate :) Apr 11 16:13:14 you need also qemu from Poky (or OE) Apr 11 16:13:19 and I have to go Apr 11 16:49:00 03jeremy_laine 07org.oe.dev * r85a2f16f... 10/ (3 files in 3 dirs): u-boot_1.3.1.bb: add mtdparts support for mpc8313e-rdb Apr 11 17:16:54 03tmbinc 07org.oe.dreambox * r3f1d26a6... 10/ (3 files in 3 dirs): enigma2: disable iframe search on dm7025 Apr 11 17:31:31 thanks to CliffyB's excellent blob (http://bec-systems.com/web/content/view/79/9/) I was able to create myself a custom image (roboslug-image.bb) to customize slugos for my robot platform Apr 11 17:33:34 Everything works fine except... when I add libusb and glib-2.0 to it and it complains: Cannot find package libusb. I tried with libusb-0.1-4 as this is what my ipk folder contains but it errors somewhere else.. Apr 11 17:34:26 similar problem with glib-2.0. Is this because of the extended version string or? None of those working as parameters for IMAGE_INSTALL.. anybody? Apr 11 18:20:43 VoodooZ: adding glib-2.0 to IMAGE_INSTALL should work. Unless I need to clean & rebuild something? Apr 11 18:27:28 I could wipe out tmp and do a full rebuild again too.. Apr 11 18:27:38 hm Apr 11 18:27:47 VoodooZ: shouldn't be necessary. you can look at the dependency graph. Apr 11 18:27:50 only your bitbake -c clean yourimage Apr 11 18:28:01 and bitbake -c clean yourtask Apr 11 18:28:11 I'll try it again... libusb should be the same I assume Apr 11 18:29:45 if you use angstrom you will find .dot files in deploy from which you can generate nice pngs that show you what ended up in you image and why. Apr 11 18:30:19 I use slugos.. that could be a useful tool though. Apr 11 18:30:38 nope. same thing happened. Apr 11 18:32:11 for details: http://pastebin.ca/981324 Apr 11 18:33:36 unless someone can find a glaring mistake in my .bb file I'm lost. Apr 11 19:35:41 Hi! Is this the right place to ask for help building from a bbfile that yields the error listed at http://www.openembedded.org/the-q-a-team-strikes-back ? Apr 11 20:01:31 Has anyone managed to build python-mysqldb with bitbake? I'm currently fighting with compilation errors in a C dependency, _mysql.c. It's been a while since I've been a C programmer, so I'm not sure if the compiler is misbehaving or if the code really is bad. Apr 11 20:25:21 re Apr 11 20:32:33 well, it looks like I'm not the only one that's stumped about that IMAGE_INSTALL issue. I always seem to get find the bugs.. :( Apr 11 20:34:52 Actually, this reminds me... maybe it's because not all packages are visible under slugos! I think they use some kind of package blessing thing... Apr 11 20:36:00 nah. I just looked and both glib-2.0 and libusb show up under packages/meta/slugos-packages.bb Apr 11 20:36:06 crap.
