**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Nov 29 02:59:58 2013 Nov 29 05:05:31 o.O Nov 29 07:35:34 * PaulFertser sighs. Can't understand what's going on with his gps receiver. Tried swapping external antennas, no dice. Nov 29 07:35:40 Really really poor sensitivity Nov 29 07:36:07 Works only indoors where there's a special gps amplifier-retransmitter installed Nov 29 07:36:30 Voltage bias is present on both the internal (2.7V) and external (2.9V) antennas. Nov 29 07:36:40 Am I deprived of gps forever now? Nov 29 07:36:41 :( Nov 29 07:45:46 Tried cleaning internal connector with ethanol, tried cleaning external connector too (in case it started conducting and thus turning off the internal antenna). Nov 29 07:47:08 Just freaking poor sensitivity. It used to get a fix on a sunny day from this very window in 45 seconds. Now it's winter, I admit it. But it should be able to work at least somehow. Nov 29 07:48:30 Probing parts is impossible, they're all under a soldered shield. Nov 29 08:11:42 Booted 2.6.31 from internal nand, didn't mount the SD card, same shit. Nov 29 08:13:25 damn damn damn Nov 29 08:16:32 My friend with his android shit sees 17 sats in the middle of the fucking room. I can't see a single one right through the window. Nov 29 08:33:29 PaulFertser: hmm on my GTA02 gps stopped working at some moment and i couldnt make it working since then Nov 29 08:33:52 PaulFertser: i can see the NMEA but no fix Nov 29 08:34:15 radekp: same here Nov 29 08:34:31 radekp: very poor sensitivity, it can get a fix if the signal is very strong. Nov 29 08:34:39 PaulFertser: i tried swapping GPS antennas - but luck - and the same antenna works in GTA04 flawlessly Nov 29 08:35:23 radekp: same Nov 29 08:35:51 PaulFertser: i also tried old QtMoko v26 where it 100% used to work, no luck Nov 29 08:36:05 radekp: so must be hardware reason? Nov 29 08:36:29 maybe we can ask on ML if someone has GPS working... Nov 29 08:37:18 radekp: are you intending to produce a QtMoko release for the GTA04 with a 3.12 kernel? Nov 29 08:39:02 Stupid soldered shield, meh. It would be possible to clean or exchange some components if it was a hw failure. Nov 29 08:40:51 rah: not until power management starts working - i dont see a point in releasing phone distro that can work only for 12 hours... Nov 29 08:41:17 :-/ Nov 29 08:42:14 I wonder if there's anyone interested in buying a GTA04 now :-/ Nov 29 08:42:19 rah: i had QtMoko running with 3.12 but with suspend current of 80mA it's usless for me Nov 29 08:42:24 what a complete fucking waste of money Nov 29 08:42:39 rah: ask on ML Nov 29 08:42:49 rah: btw latest 3.7 kernel is quite nice Nov 29 08:43:00 rah: it has 1Ghz enabled etc... Nov 29 08:43:06 eh? Nov 29 08:43:18 what do you mean by "enabled"? Nov 29 08:43:27 that it runs faster now Nov 29 08:43:36 but does it *work*? :-) Nov 29 08:43:48 it might run but does the modem connect? Nov 29 08:43:59 rah: https://github.com/radekp/linux-2.6/commit/35bffd772e7c8aa6b2d848d8aec10a04ce65196e Nov 29 08:44:18 rah: modem works ok Nov 29 08:44:31 IIRC, I've tried kernels with that fix Nov 29 08:44:35 my modem doesn't work ok Nov 29 08:44:49 rah: i think that even the reenumerate bug is a bit fixed now Nov 29 08:46:59 * rah wonders what "a bit fixed" means Nov 29 08:48:03 PaulFertser: do you know where is kernel config for SHR 2.6.39 kernel? Nov 29 08:48:21 rah: that the reenumeration does not occurs that much now Nov 29 08:48:29 radekp: reenumeration is not the problem Nov 29 08:48:56 radekp: that's a separate issue Nov 29 08:49:04 radekp: I used the one from their OE layer, let me dig it up. Nov 29 08:49:18 PaulFertser: thanks Nov 29 08:49:41 rah: what is your issue then? (although i cant promise i can help) Nov 29 08:49:42 radekp: the problem is not that the modem is on the USB bus and the USB bus reenumerates Nov 29 08:49:50 radekp: the problem is that the modem is not on the USB bus Nov 29 08:50:11 rah: so for you the modem does not work at all? Nov 29 08:50:20 radekp: for me the modem does not work at all Nov 29 08:50:25 well, usually Nov 29 08:50:42 sometimes it graces me with its presence but normally it just isn't there Nov 29 08:50:59 radekp: i think this one http://git.shr-project.org/git/?p=meta-smartphone.git;a=blob;f=meta-openmoko/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-openmoko-2.6.39/om-gta02/defconfig;h=8996023176b6f5b0c64e228826ce25eddda75985;hb=HEAD Nov 29 08:51:00 rah: and with some older kernel it does? e.g. kernel from some QtMoko release? Nov 29 08:51:21 radekp: yes, with the old 2.6 kernels it works Nov 29 08:51:29 PaulFertser: great thanks! Nov 29 08:51:48 radekp: no, there are no QtMoko release available that have a kernel that works Nov 29 08:51:59 radekp: in fact I just booted their kernel, loaded the config module and grabbed it from /proc/config.gz , but afaict it should be the same as that one. Nov 29 08:53:15 rah: hmm that sucks then - btw have you tried powering the modem from command line? Nov 29 08:53:38 radekp: yes it does suck and yes I have tried from the command line Nov 29 08:54:12 rah: that looks like HW problem :( Nov 29 08:54:30 radekp: except it works fine with older kernels Nov 29 08:55:48 hmm strange.. Nov 29 08:56:11 what kernel was used with the latest QtMoko release? Nov 29 08:56:14 what version? Nov 29 08:57:22 rah: 3.7 Nov 29 08:57:41 rah: and latest kernel that works for you is? Nov 29 08:57:43 radekp: will it work with a 3.12 kernel? Nov 29 08:58:02 rah: most likely it will - maybe with some glitches Nov 29 08:58:17 :-/ Nov 29 08:58:20 radekp: what glitches? Nov 29 08:58:36 rah: sometimes some sysfs paths change Nov 29 08:58:48 rah: it should not be problem to fix these **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Nov 29 09:18:37 2013 Nov 29 09:29:01 radekp: i think if there's some conductive mud in external gps connector it might switch the internal off. Not my case though. Nov 29 09:30:17 PaulFertser: hmm interesting i can have a look Nov 29 09:35:35 gps used to work so nicely (for that old generation)... Nov 29 09:36:48 Yesterday when being near a gps amplifier i even enabled raw mode (thanks to awesome work by lindi-) and could see subframes contents with the current gpsd release. Nov 29 22:32:28 was tinkering with the idea of pulling out my FreeRunner again. Been a while but then thinking that the audio quality on it was very poor. Unusable perhaps. I did have a mod done on it and maybe a current version of code might get more out of the HW. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Nov 30 02:59:59 2013
