Sep 17 10:14:33 already 3 weeks instead of 3 days.. and it still not arrived yet... Sep 17 10:15:26 they toldy they shipped it? Sep 17 10:15:31 *told you Sep 17 10:16:12 i recommned that you use trisoft, the other german supplier caused problems to me. Sep 17 18:58:03 ah they renamed it Sep 17 18:58:15 bumble - surprise! Sep 17 18:58:20 jadams, is it ever going to work at all is a better question Sep 17 18:58:25 perhaps in 2009? :P Sep 17 18:58:39 ieatlint: We'd be just like Microsoft then :X Sep 17 19:00:15 sprite_tm, if the dev community switched all its effort from getting the product to work to installing DRM, then perhaps... Sep 17 19:01:13 which i think we should look into, actually Sep 17 19:01:23 we could put in meaningless restrictions Sep 17 19:01:24 drm? Sep 17 19:01:29 Oeh, cool. Sep 17 19:01:31 :D Sep 17 19:01:40 blah Sep 17 19:01:45 I don't think we need to add antifeatures just yet :p Sep 17 19:01:51 I mean... Sep 17 19:01:55 Can't we just double-rot13 all SMS-messages, and then sue everyone who reads one under the DMCA? Sep 17 19:01:57 we're going to release OpenMoko '95 soon Sep 17 19:02:01 the way things are going Sep 17 19:02:06 we'd need features first Sep 17 19:02:09 we'll be lucky to reach 1998 soon Sep 17 19:02:23 like the digits of your operator id when added together must equal the 3rd, 5th, or 9th digit of your phones IMEI number to work Sep 17 19:02:34 That reminds me, I want to install Netscape 3.1 on my freerunner. Sep 17 19:02:48 Aaaah, that's why all distro's still run the UI as root: to be as Win9x-like as possible! Sep 17 19:02:59 haha Sep 17 19:03:04 It's a trap! Sep 17 19:03:05 sprite_tm, no, that was my idea Sep 17 19:03:16 meh, debian installs on the neo now Sep 17 19:03:22 this way, i can write applications that secretly call pay-numbers i set up Sep 17 19:03:38 Nice. A botnet of OpenMokos! Sep 17 19:03:52 that'd be neat Sep 17 19:04:19 And incompatible with my phone, my ui runs under an user account, as God intended :P Sep 17 19:04:46 my phone would be assimilated :) Sep 17 19:05:13 Mmm, I can't do the ass part, but simulating your phone shouldn't be that hard indeed. Sep 17 19:05:37 sprite_tm, congrats Sep 17 19:05:38 ieatlint, thinking upon your triangle scheme again? Sep 17 19:05:39 :p Sep 17 19:05:50 I'm sure there's plenty of asses in here :D Sep 17 19:05:51 sprite_tm, but is dbus configured to only allow trusted applications to make calls? Sep 17 19:06:01 or did you just leave the default open permissions in place... Sep 17 19:06:21 ieatlint: Errrmmmmmmm.... Sep 17 19:06:25 :) Sep 17 19:06:31 * sprite_tm does a quick ssh into its phone.... Sep 17 19:06:41 Hmm, where does one set that up? Sep 17 19:06:50 i haven't a clue Sep 17 19:07:02 haha Sep 17 19:07:05 evillint Sep 17 19:07:19 torikun! Sep 17 19:07:22 but if zhone can make phone calls on your debian install, then my get-rich-quick idea will still work Sep 17 19:07:24 Ah, fsck that, I'll probably run only my own apps and apps I've looked through the source on my phone. Sep 17 19:07:34 Dave: ! Sep 17 19:07:42 Besides, my trusty gsm-tray-app will tell me if there's a phone call going on. Sep 17 19:07:48 It's also a great way to get-in-jail-quick Sep 17 19:07:49 :p Sep 17 19:08:16 Dave, would it really be illegal? Sep 17 19:08:56 Probably. Dialers are illegal too in most countries, so I wouldn't know why a rogue app wouldn't be. Sep 17 19:09:01 yes Sep 17 19:09:04 and no Sep 17 19:09:10 it wouldn't be, but you might certainly get got Sep 17 19:09:17 especially if your LUG caught on :p Sep 17 19:09:24 :P Sep 17 19:09:31 i dunno... Sep 17 19:09:34 Get out the LARTs :P Sep 17 19:09:42 I'd totally publicly stone you with freerunners Sep 17 19:09:49 i'll put it in the user agreement Sep 17 19:09:52 it seems like a just beating Sep 17 19:09:55 yeah I know you would Sep 17 19:10:01 but still, you are defrauding them Sep 17 19:10:07 even if you tell them Sep 17 19:10:10 dude, this is america Sep 17 19:10:14 "This application may periodically make phone calls, and any and all costs or fees incurred are the responsibility of the end user" Sep 17 19:10:23 dude someone will read it Sep 17 19:10:30 so by the way, the fact that I know... Sep 17 19:10:33 Dave, have you seen linux geeks? they're scrawny folk... i could fend them off Sep 17 19:10:36 you'll give me a small cut, right? :P Sep 17 19:10:44 If not, someone will read the source. I know I have. (At least, parts of it.) Sep 17 19:10:53 put comments in Sep 17 19:10:54 read a licence agreement? liar... no one ever reads those Sep 17 19:11:00 # this is where we scam the user Sep 17 19:11:02 I read 'em Sep 17 19:11:05 # by stealing they're money! :D Sep 17 19:11:07 hello.does remoko work on om2008.8? Sep 17 19:11:13 Dave: Lol :) Sep 17 19:11:16 sprite_tm, i can obfiscate the code pretty well Sep 17 19:11:20 I did stuff like that Sep 17 19:11:25 ieatlint, code it in perl Sep 17 19:11:30 sevenhun1red, then i refuse to believe you exist Sep 17 19:11:31 that's usually good enough :P Sep 17 19:11:34 ieatlint: Wouldn't you need to port your app to Perl for that? :) Sep 17 19:11:35 anyone uses omview? Sep 17 19:11:43 ieatlint: aww :( Sep 17 19:11:44 lol Sep 17 19:11:44 sprite :D Sep 17 19:11:51 Dave: GMTA :P Sep 17 19:11:52 i hate perl, i refused to learn it Sep 17 19:11:57 i can write it in c Sep 17 19:12:00 muwahahahhahaa Sep 17 19:12:03 bipak_, i do Sep 17 19:12:07 use pearl Sep 17 19:12:09 woo Sep 17 19:12:21 ieatlint: You sure you want to? dbus + c = icky, imo. Sep 17 19:12:29 you'd be surprised how confusing it can get, especially if i use bitwise operators to code bits Sep 17 19:12:51 Gnutoo: i loaded a picture.. how do i get back to the overview? Sep 17 19:12:56 SNAKES Sep 17 19:13:04 Gnutoo: didn't find any doc Sep 17 19:13:06 bipak, muwahahaha Sep 17 19:13:12 you're stuck with it forever! Sep 17 19:13:47 ieatlint: You still wouldn't have shaked me off. Zhone in C would be a nice example for me, and I'm an embedded engineer. I eat bitwise operators for breakfast! Sep 17 19:13:47 hahahaha Sep 17 19:13:52 have you seen the AWFUL qtopia version? Sep 17 19:13:59 ieatlint: That's why libframework-glib glib Sep 17 19:14:05 er, why it exists Sep 17 19:14:09 there is a page about ot Sep 17 19:14:13 wurp, and why do you exist? Sep 17 19:14:25 Well, once upon a time there was a mommy and a daddy... Sep 17 19:14:38 sprite_tm, bastard. :P Sep 17 19:14:41 Gnutoo: ... haha ok found it Sep 17 19:15:03 wurp2|working: It does? Where does it live? Sep 17 19:15:23 man, I was embarrassed when a friend of mine found qtopia snake Sep 17 19:15:25 sprite_tm: in the FSO git Sep 17 19:15:45 sevenhundred: whys that? Sep 17 19:15:51 Damn, why aren't these things in places where I can find them? :X Sep 17 19:16:20 yeah, i suppose i'll need to look at libframework-glib sometime Sep 17 19:16:48 http://www.neopwn.com/ - what is it? :x Sep 17 19:17:01 sprite_tm: git clone git://git.freesmartphone.org/libframeworkd-glib.git Sep 17 19:17:02 lpotter: because it didn't steer as expected. either it didn't respond or it turned and went straight into the wall Sep 17 19:17:05 Ah well, glib is almost as icky as dbus itself. I'll just continue coding my app without the libframework thingy. Sep 17 19:17:28 dos1: sounds like a "security livecd" to be installed on FR ;) Sep 17 19:17:44 seems to work fine for me Sep 17 19:17:46 Are you just doing all the dbus stuff by hand? Sep 17 19:17:46 wurp2|working: Thanks. I'll check it out. Sep 17 19:17:54 errm... Sep 17 19:17:56 if it works... Sep 17 19:17:58 git.freesmartphone.org[0: 134.169.172.109]: errno=Connection refused Sep 17 19:18:03 cool Sep 17 19:18:14 fso.org still isn't completely up again yet I see :/ Sep 17 19:18:31 sevenhundred: You know it turns based on the quadrant of the screen you click on, not where the click is relative to the snake? Sep 17 19:20:34 wurp2|working : Btw, do you perchance know if org.freesmartphone.Phone is working OK in the latest FSO milestone? Sep 17 19:20:45 I don't seem to get any signals from it. Sep 17 19:21:16 sprite_tm: if it didn't work, Zhone wouldn't work... Sep 17 19:21:44 wurp2|working: Doesn't zhone use the org.fso.GSM-interface? Sep 17 19:21:48 sprite_tm: Although at one point I think the name changed. I don't remember if the one you gave is the new name or the old one Sep 17 19:21:50 anyone encoutering a qpe process vanishing in om-2008.8? Sep 17 19:22:18 Oh, if the name you gave was the old one, I have no idea if it still works. I wouldn't expect it to - why maintain it in two places? Sep 17 19:22:28 if I try to ping google.com with my phone I get: "ping: bad address 'google.com'" Sep 17 19:22:37 Seadog_: you have no dns Sep 17 19:22:39 installing debian on the neo1973 now Sep 17 19:22:43 wurp2|working http://git.freesmartphone.org/?p=specs.git;a=blob_plain;f=html/index.html;hb=HEAD Sep 17 19:22:51 rwhitby, done that yet? supported, here: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianOnNeo1973 Sep 17 19:23:00 The org.fso.Phone-interface still is documented there. Sep 17 19:23:06 wurp2|working: oh of course I forgot to update that when I changed distributions Sep 17 19:23:21 The org.fso.GSM-interface is usable for calls too, but a bit more low-level. Sep 17 19:23:28 thanks, that's better Sep 17 19:23:37 wurp2: yeah, I figured it out eventually. Just saying it's counter-intuitive Sep 17 19:23:52 Ah, so Phone is for when you don't want to specify if it's gsm, voip, etc. Sep 17 19:24:08 wurp2|working: I guess so. Sep 17 19:24:11 to the people I've showed it to Sep 17 19:24:15 opkg says: skipped because GPG support was not enabled in this build Sep 17 19:24:24 ah well, I guess there's a good reason Sep 17 19:24:27 I'm sorry, I'm not sure if that works or not :-( I thought it used to, and if it did and mickey|sports doesn't have a unit test for it, he needs a lashing Sep 17 19:24:28 where can i get an new opkg for 2008.08 Sep 17 19:24:41 is it a good idea to mount /home on the sdcard instead then? Sep 17 19:24:56 sevenhundred: Yeah, it confused me for a minute or two, but it didn't last long Sep 17 19:25:13 If it worked the way you first expect, it could be very hard to navigate into corners Sep 17 19:25:22 wurp2: I guess you're smarter than me then :P Sep 17 19:25:26 Seadog_: I always do Sep 17 19:25:49 cp: cannot create './root/Applications/QDSDataStore/{b9055662-d3bc-4c6d-8dea-f89bbb5f4752}:1.data': Invalid argument, that's not good Sep 17 19:26:15 wurp2|working: It's supposed to send signals on the dbus if there's e.g. an incoming call, but with dbus-monitor I don't see anything coming along. Sep 17 19:26:33 sprite_tm: You don't see anything, not even GSM events? Sep 17 19:26:34 Or don't calls get sent if there's no-one explicitely interested in them? Sep 17 19:26:45 I do see GSM signals, but no Phone signals. Sep 17 19:27:01 I would assume that it doesn't work now, then :-( Sep 17 19:27:18 It may be that you need some configuration to turn it on, since afaik no one uses it yet Sep 17 19:27:35 Of course, afaik is not very far Sep 17 19:27:46 Mmm. I think I'll just go and use the GSM interface. Sep 17 19:27:57 bitches + Dave + bbq Sep 17 19:28:04 does Om2008 still blow chunks? Server indeed seems to be down. Sep 17 19:36:16 doesnt seem down, it answers pings... Sep 17 19:36:19 sakkara: Yeah, you should have openmoko-terminal2 on 2008.8, I believe Sep 17 19:36:27 im not sure that terminal is installed with 2008.08 Sep 17 19:36:42 F4t: Not the machine, the git server Sep 17 19:36:55 wurp2|working: where is it? Sep 17 19:37:13 sakkara: I'm not sure. I never use 2008.8, so I dunno where it is in Illume Sep 17 19:37:14 anyway, if you have no openmoko on lsusb, there is something bad there Sep 17 19:37:27 wurp2|working: k, thx =( Sep 17 19:38:01 maybe i have to upgrade uboot? Sep 17 19:38:21 for usb-networking Sep 17 19:38:22 no need to upgrade uboot to connect fr over usb Sep 17 19:38:45 sakkara: maybe you have modules from other kernel that you are running? Sep 17 19:45:58 2007.2 Sep 17 19:46:10 Ok, I don't know that, can't help ya. Sep 17 19:46:16 it is happening after some upgrade of libsdl Sep 17 19:46:35 bubak: yeah, i flashed both with df-util Sep 17 19:47:15 sakka: what about that log? Sep 17 19:48:17 do I need to use a specific file system to put /home on the SD card (using qtopia)? Sep 17 19:48:32 why is there no shell installed by default in om? Sep 17 19:48:34 sakka: just to be sure -- your fr normally boots up and you end up with illume? Sep 17 19:48:42 yea Sep 17 19:48:47 sakkara: there is shell, there is no terminal ;) Sep 17 19:48:59 ofc... Sep 17 19:49:07 oh, and i think that openmoko-messages2 has memory lacks when displaying ~700 sms in one person inbox :x Sep 17 19:49:09 i just want a terminal =( Sep 17 19:49:25 or memory leaks, somethink like that ^^" Sep 17 19:49:30 something* Sep 17 19:50:01 dos1: Memury leaks so in the end, memory lacks? :P Sep 17 19:50:01 dos1: it seems you either had too much or not enough alcohol ;) Sep 17 19:50:18 *memOry Sep 17 19:50:25 * sprite_tm takes a sip of his beer Sep 17 19:50:27 finally in with usbnet Sep 17 19:50:45 so can someone confirm "git://git.freesmartphone.org/fso-makefile" is down, and its not only my problem? Sep 17 20:10:17 sakka: i was unable to configure the using the provided 'gui wizzard' on 2008.08 -- i use WEP restritced in my home network and i was able to run it only from command line -- i think there is a ommision in the script that broings uo wifi -- it does not take into account the restricted WEP, it only handles the open WEP Sep 17 20:10:30 sprite_tm: was it eric at 100 acacia avenue? I remember the crow Sep 17 20:10:47 sakka: but with iwconfig and ifconfig was everything ok Sep 17 20:11:08 Tig|: Errm, what? Sep 17 20:13:01 Aaaaaaah :) Sep 17 20:13:19 I referred to the Internet-phenomenon around Raffi's song 'bananaphone'. Sep 17 20:14:54 It's not that bad :) Just a song that gets into your head. Sep 17 20:15:37 defiantly not clicking on it then :) Sep 17 20:15:52 Ok, your loss :P Sep 17 20:16:36 I doubt it will be a loss :) Sep 17 20:16:36 Damn, why does my app crash as soon as I get called? Sep 17 20:39:31 zash, no, because you need that package to install stuff ^^ Sep 17 20:42:17 Hey all. Sep 17 20:43:05 How can I clean up my freerunner before installing the invisible shield ? Sep 17 20:43:30 Just a wipe ? Or alcohol maybe ? Sep 17 20:43:52 Burn it! ;) Sep 17 20:44:06 Let the fire cleanse it! Sep 17 20:44:17 -_- Sep 17 20:44:31 Is there a way of cleaning that doesn't involve destruction ? :) Sep 17 20:44:55 Nuke it from space! It's the only way! :P Sep 17 20:44:58 theocrite: not sure alcohol is a good idea (i remember instruction manuals for electronic things always said not to use anything other than water) Sep 17 20:45:41 Ok, so i'll stay with my "just wipe" option. Thanks. Sep 17 20:46:24 water won't work that well for removing greasy marks though :( Sep 17 20:46:57 i could always get my PDA screen (very similar to FR) pretty clean with a bit of effort though Sep 17 20:47:28 interesting things to use as a stylus, #202: the corner of an ARM250 processor from an Acorn A4000 Sep 17 20:48:14 Weiss: Drat, I just used 64MB of SDRAM in a BGA package. Your stylus is cooler (and larger). Sep 17 20:48:20 * mwester just files his fingernails to a point; can't lose them. Sep 17 20:48:31 hehe Sep 17 20:48:44 mwester: I can, I'm a nailbiter :/ Very inconvenient with touchscreens. Sep 17 20:49:04 i was thinking of doing something involving the hook on the end of the strap for my FR's pouch - since i always have that to hand, and already use it as a stylus quite often... Sep 17 20:49:38 theocrite: Perhaps you can use the SHIELDSpray ... Sep 17 20:50:12 * mwester wonders if ljp has updated the source tarballs for qtopia... or if there's a git repo with the latest qtopia development code that he can use instead. Sep 17 20:51:02 * mwester wonders if *anyone* will *ever* fix the so-called *stable* branch in Om's git repo so that it will *finally* build. After all, it's only the bleeding *stable* branch. :( Sep 17 20:51:06 bernt: i'm confused. part #3 of "apprication instructions" says : "Hint : Spray the shield, NOT your device". Sep 17 20:52:19 you could use some soft paper with a bit of spray Sep 17 20:52:41 mwester_: org.openmoko.asu.stable? Sep 17 20:52:52 Yep. Sep 17 20:53:19 "git rename org.openmoko.asu.stable org.openmoko.asu.unbuildable" Sep 17 20:53:31 How can I convert a jffs2-image to a rootfs.tar.gz? Sep 17 20:54:18 (I need some files from Om 2007) Sep 17 20:55:01 mwester_: git branch -m org.openmoko.asu.stable org.openmoko.asu.unbuildable Sep 17 20:55:30 :) sorry! Sep 17 20:56:08 mwester: Hehe Sep 17 20:57:21 sprite_tm: :-( Sep 17 20:57:34 mwester: Is there somewhere I can download your Qtopia build for gta01? Sep 17 20:57:53 I'm running the 4.3.2 that was put out on Aug 28, and it doesn't switch the sound over when I plug in my headset Sep 17 20:58:37 hey, does anyone know why the heck am i getting dots instead of in vi on the moko? Sep 17 20:58:47 using from ssh and moko terminal Sep 17 21:00:45 wurp2|working: Not yet; I'm waiting for ljp to make the updated sources available (the source tarball is not as up to date as the latest image he made availalble; it's missing some important fixes. Sep 17 21:01:36 mwester: OK, thanks for the info Sep 17 21:01:45 mwester: Is your work on 4.4? Sep 17 21:02:01 When will 4.4 be there? Sep 17 21:02:19 I know soon, but what is soon? 2 weeks? Sep 17 21:02:23 theocrite: how are you getting on applying the shield? is it taking forever to get the side-flaps to stick? Sep 17 21:02:34 or was i perhaps doing womething wrong..? Sep 17 21:04:03 TAsn: as in an unprintable character? ^H? Sep 17 21:04:25 shouldn't it just delete the next char? Sep 17 21:04:52 bernt: have you had the shield on for long? do the micro bubbles work themselves out after a few days as stated in the instructions? Sep 17 21:05:02 can someone tell me what package angstrom-version does? Sep 17 21:05:10 TAsn: oh, you press 'del' and get a dot? Sep 17 21:05:27 Is here somebody, who has made a backup from the OM2007, which was on the freerunner when it was shipped? Sep 17 21:05:38 Weiss, aye Sep 17 21:05:50 in ssh and in terminal Sep 17 21:06:08 sicu: I'm waiting for the arrival of my shield from zagg ... Sep 17 21:10:06 bernt: sry, thought u already had it ... i seem to remember mine taking quite a while longer to arrive than they indicated on their site, so be patient ;] Sep 17 21:14:02 sicu: So, since your FR is now attached to your invisible shield, are you just gonna ship 'em both to me? Sep 17 21:15:45 where is the backspace on 2008-08 keyboard??? Sep 17 21:15:55 go from right to left Sep 17 21:16:24 is there any way to see if there are any known regressions in an update of 2008.8 ? Sep 17 21:17:23 http://onlinedev.blogspot.com/ Sep 17 21:17:37 but that's not official from openmoko Sep 17 21:17:42 just a community member doing that Sep 17 21:18:14 thank you :) Sep 17 21:19:26 Amorphous: there are always regressionsin an update of 2008.8 ;) Sep 17 21:19:57 no, just kiding Sep 17 21:20:41 TAsn: when sshing into the FR? Sep 17 21:21:00 yeah Sep 17 21:21:08 though as i said also from the gtk terminal Sep 17 21:21:15 (on the fr) Sep 17 21:21:45 weird.. would suggest some kind of locale problem, but never seen that before... Sep 17 21:22:00 ;\ Sep 17 21:22:09 furthermore, vi is kinda crippled Sep 17 21:22:18 not supporting 'u' Sep 17 21:22:21 (undo) Sep 17 21:22:27 wurp2|working: sure, i'll send em over right now ... it'll save me a headache that has been ongoing since i received it ... anything else you want me to send over while we're at it? ;] Sep 17 21:22:27 and stuff i can't recall Sep 17 21:23:00 hmm... i installed nano as pretty much the first thing i did once i'd made usb networking/opkg work :) Sep 17 21:23:23 why?! ;] Sep 17 21:23:26 vi is cool Sep 17 21:23:35 it's just that this version is crippled Sep 17 21:24:24 vi isn't cool Sep 17 21:24:36 I also installed nano asap Sep 17 21:24:47 * mwester waits for another editor-war to flare up... Sep 17 21:24:51 i just found vim ^^ Sep 17 21:25:00 mwester, emacs sucks ;0 Sep 17 21:25:07 true :p Sep 17 21:25:30 (but I didn't use it yet :) ) Sep 17 21:25:33 * Weiss does the XKCD butterfly wings thing with his Neo's flash memory Sep 17 21:27:22 good night alltogether :) Sep 17 21:33:24 Y'know, it would be a darned lot easier to dislike Qtopia if it didn't work quite so well -- especially on the old GTA01. ;) Sep 17 21:33:25 cool, everything works with vim ;) Sep 17 21:33:42 vim is for the folks who can't afford emacs. Sep 17 21:34:21 vi rules :-) Sep 17 21:34:48 Bah! "echo" , "sed", and "cat" !! Sep 17 21:35:06 mwester: I agree completely Sep 17 21:35:17 sicu: Just whatever valuables you don't want any more Sep 17 21:35:33 yes you dont need ls ;-) echo * Sep 17 21:35:34 * mwester quickly closes Microsoft Word on his other display, before agreeing with wurp2|working Sep 17 21:35:38 mwester, oh so true (about qtopia) Sep 17 21:35:40 actually the best way is to open up gedit to write a tool that directly writes to the raw partition to fix the data Sep 17 21:35:46 mwester: ew!! Sep 17 21:36:07 Afternoon all. Anyone ever have TangoGPS freeze on you? Sep 17 21:36:14 mwester: Sorry, I was agreeing re: qtopia, not emacs vs vim Sep 17 21:36:31 mwester: My preference is viper on emacs, but usually I get by with vim Sep 17 21:36:52 i get a weird robotic voice sometimes when i use fso3 Sep 17 21:36:58 I love vi keystrokes (home row rules! modifier keys are teh suxxorz!) Sep 17 21:36:59 that's darn weird. Sep 17 21:37:16 Oooh, I found a source tarball dated today; lemme download. Sep 17 21:37:20 But managing multiple buffers and doing complex stuff is much nicer in emacs Sep 17 21:37:34 wurp2|working: okay, i'll ship my wife as well then ... she's high maintainance, though nothing compared to the FR Sep 17 21:38:01 TAsn: robotic voice? Like, the callers sound weird, or it just randomly talks to you? Sep 17 21:38:53 sicu: I've found wives don't hold up so well through FedEx Sep 17 21:39:06 Maybe I shoulda put airholes in the box Sep 17 21:39:34 wurp2|working, my problem actually splits to two. sometimes when i lie in bed i hear robots talking to me. and for the second problem, sometimes (quite often) i hear the other person like if he was standing in front of a giant fan (robo voice) Sep 17 21:41:36 wurp2|working: hehe, so that's the reason my mail-order-brides have shown so little interest in me .... i was beginning to take it personally Sep 17 21:42:05 TAsn: some antipsychotics will probably help with the first problem. The second one sounds like a really bad cell connection is losing some of the compressed voice data... Sep 17 21:42:12 Anyone know where e stores crash logs? Sep 17 21:42:12 wurp2|working: they pack the boxes so tightly together in those planes that airholes wouldn't have made any difference. Sep 17 21:42:28 mwester: Whew, I feel much better, then. Sep 17 21:42:38 wurp2|working, it says i have max reception Sep 17 21:42:48 TAsn: weird Sep 17 21:42:50 it lies Sep 17 21:43:06 sicu: it explains the stink, too Sep 17 21:43:07 mwester, nah, i know where i get good reception ;0 Sep 17 21:43:08 found it Sep 17 21:43:20 TangoGPS segfault... fun Sep 17 21:43:36 Toaster`: that happens to me when I try to create POI Sep 17 21:43:57 Well, it did happen, before I installed Qtopia. Now I have no gps proggy :-( Sep 17 21:44:16 TAsn: ok. But just to be clear, the "number of bars" thing in any cell phone display is at the whim of the various bits of code from the radio rcvr all the way to the display. Sep 17 21:44:19 wurp2|working: I'm just trying to track a route. It used to work fine, but the later versions of 2008.8 seem to cause it to go all flakey Sep 17 21:44:31 Like TV pictures in ads, the "level" gets doctored. Sep 17 21:44:45 Toaster`: I've never installed 2008.8 Sep 17 21:44:58 mwester, ;0 Sep 17 21:46:32 hi all Sep 17 21:47:02 I'm trying the quasar media player but the menu is simply enormous, how can I change the size?, pls Sep 17 21:48:32 quasar media player? Sep 17 21:48:55 yep, it's on the angstrom repo Sep 17 21:49:13 Cool, I hadn't heard of it Sep 17 21:50:00 neither did I, but the screenshots look gorgeous ;) Sep 17 21:50:19 It looks nice Sep 17 21:50:31 Heh, i guess I should read what you wrote before I reply Sep 17 21:50:48 The search in particular looks convenient Sep 17 21:51:01 Is that based on file name or mp3 id tags? Sep 17 21:51:41 wurp2|working: link to these gorgeous screenshots? Sep 17 21:53:49 Are there public domain album covers, dvd covers, etc.? Sep 17 21:55:07 theocrite: yeh, i know ... but i think i've got em to sit now Sep 17 21:56:12 I'm more worried about the micro bubbles Sep 17 21:58:55 yeh, i'll leave it for 2-3 days ... but i doubt they'll disappear Sep 17 21:59:37 better with microbubbles than a seriously scratched FR Sep 17 21:59:38 I would think if they were going to go away, it would be with use Sep 17 21:59:53 As they get pushed farther to the sides and eventually to an edge Sep 17 22:00:31 The only protection I have on my gta01 is on the screen (and that was only after I got one quite short but fairly deep scratch) Sep 17 22:00:52 The edges of mine are scuffed, but I tend not to care about the appearance of my stuff Sep 17 22:01:13 well ... i used the plastic/rubber thingy provided to push the bubbles, but the tiny ones stay put no matter what Sep 17 22:01:29 :-( Sep 17 22:01:45 I have 0 bubbles under my protector now Sep 17 22:03:28 wurp2|working: re: Qtopia on your gta01 -- do you observe any of the symptoms described in https://docs.openmoko.org/trac/ticket/1024, or Sep 17 22:03:42 well, if you were to get an invisibleSHIELD you would also be forced to not care about the appearence, as it is pretty far from invisible :p Sep 17 22:04:04 the signal strength (bars) jumping from normal to the highest level, and then back down, ad infinitum? Sep 17 22:04:25 mwester: I do, but only sometimes Sep 17 22:04:39 mwester: I also lose my connection to the gsm multiple times a day Sep 17 22:04:55 while staying in one place that normally says I have 4 bars Sep 17 22:05:26 mwester: But, with qtopia I can always see if I'm connected or not, and it recovers on its own in a short time Sep 17 22:05:31 As opposed to Other Releases. Sep 17 22:05:55 Does Qtopia pop up that little box for you that says it's unregistered at all? Sep 17 22:06:14 anybody know if these screenshots come from a particular image? http://www.rasterman.com/files/illume-new-01.png (+02 +03) or are they just design ideas? Sep 17 22:08:47 mwester: Hmm, not sure. I think I've seen that twice. Sep 17 22:08:53 I will pay more attention & report back. Sep 17 22:09:36 sicu: I love those graphics! Sep 17 22:09:45 Especially the background image Sep 17 22:10:05 wurp2|working: i know! i need that on my FR Sep 17 22:10:29 there are images 02 and 03 as well if you didnt notice Sep 17 22:11:21 I didn't; lemme look Sep 17 22:11:36 looks like it's just a different .edj file for illume Sep 17 22:14:01 <|FiLiP|> mwester: I have sporadic disconnect on gsm as well (with excellent coverage). Qtopia does show a disconnect message for a couple of secs Sep 17 22:19:01 Some logs for the sporadic disconnect/reconnects would be really helpful. Turn on the "Modem AT communication" and "Modem Other" categories in Qtopia's Logging Categories screen, reboot, and then when it happens, use "logread" to dump the log to a file -- I'm interested in the events that led up to the "+CREG: 0" de-registration event, and the subsequent "+CREG: 1..." event. Sep 17 22:20:20 (make sure your phone numbers and IMEI don't appear in the logs before you pastebin them, please! -- "X" them out!) Sep 17 22:20:41 <|FiLiP|> mwester: ok, I'll try to collect some tomorrow Sep 17 22:21:42 Cool. I have a pretty good idea of what goes on when this happens here, on T-Mobile and AT&T, but I need more data to see if this problem is similar with other carriers and locations. Sep 17 22:22:18 <|FiLiP|> ok, and you think it's soft or hw ? Sep 17 22:23:18 no need to hide your IMEI ... i'm sure i could put it to use somehow :p Sep 17 22:23:39 <|FiLiP|> sicu: ok, i'll leave th pin in as well ;-) Sep 17 22:23:48 if the battery on the neo freerunner runs out, will it charge at all while the phone is switched off? i've read somewhere that it will charge but not quickly. Sep 17 22:24:05 great ... and i wouldnt mind you cc number and pin too ;) Sep 17 22:25:22 |FiLiP|: you have my word that i'll only use your creditcard as much as i use my own Sep 17 22:25:35 *consider yourself bankrupt :p Sep 17 22:25:36 I was wondering about how the fact that the keyboard appears when you're in a text entry is implemented. Is it implemented as a gtk hook? Sep 17 22:26:29 <|FiLiP|> it's better to spent it than to put it in the bank these days Sep 17 22:26:48 |FiLiP|: I think it's GSM firmware that's broken; but since it doesn't seem that Om is going to fix it, somebody needs to see if we can "wallpaper over" the problem somehow. Sep 17 22:29:12 mine doesnt seem to do it all the time Sep 17 22:31:35 Mine cycles between 30 seconds per cycle to 50 seconds per cycle, with the norm being about 30 - 32 seconds. Sep 17 22:33:03 The sequence is almost always the same: first the modem reports an "undefined" for signal quality, then a loss of registration, then about 2 - 5 seconds later (typical is 2.8 seconds) it reports a registration event -- 90%+ of the time to the same LAC and CI as before, followed by a valid signal quality event. Sep 17 22:34:05 It's the consistency of the pattern and timing that makes me think it is feasable to filter out this erroneous de-registration event, and let the phone carry on as normal instead. Sep 17 22:35:01 <|FiLiP|> yes, but if it happens during a call, it wil probably drop Sep 17 22:35:08 Nope. Sep 17 22:35:41 Calls work perfectly. mickeyl reports that he's had the modem (with similar symptoms) hold a GPRS data connection without interruption for 4 hours. Sep 17 22:36:36 Also, it's interesting to note that if you keep the GSM occupied by (for example) polling it every few seconds for a signal quality reading, it will not report any loss of registration events, nor any of the "undefined" signal quality events. Sep 17 22:36:59 <|FiLiP|> hmm, does it have some kind of power-savings ? Sep 17 22:37:33 Yes, it has power-savings modes. How they work and how they can be controlled is apparently a deep dark secret, and Om will have to kill us if they tell us. Sep 17 22:37:42 (assuming Om was even told) Sep 17 22:38:18 <|FiLiP|> so we can't disable it to check it changes this behaviour Sep 17 22:38:31 I'm told that Om lacks the source code and docs for the GSM... pretty scary. And since it's considered obsolete by TI (the manufacturer), there's little support to be had. Sep 17 22:38:53 gotta love proprietary hardware, eh? Sep 17 22:39:01 someone needs to make their own gsm modem... Sep 17 22:39:02 |FiLiP|: It should be disabled, as I understand it, when this problem first manifests itself. Sep 17 22:39:20 I rather suspect it's just a mundane bug int he notification logic in the GSM. Sep 17 22:40:10 I'm really curious to see what happens if we switch to a polling solution -- something that's rather practical and almost easy if you have a GSM mux implemented. :) Rather like FSO, for example... Sep 17 22:41:07 rooly: an open gsm chip would be illegal in most countries in this world Sep 17 22:41:38 Yes, but a better documented one would not be illegal. Sep 17 22:41:49 <|FiLiP|> but the details on all AT commands would be usefull Sep 17 22:42:02 yes of course Sep 17 22:42:07 And it would be nice if the manufactrer still supported it, at least for a few months. Sep 17 22:42:10 <|FiLiP|> don't need to know all the details about GSM internals Sep 17 22:42:56 just it's externals Sep 17 22:42:59 IE, how to use it Sep 17 22:43:05 Shhh..!! Change the subject! MichaelShiloh just joined. Sep 17 22:43:10 documentation would also be cool for the atheros chip... Sep 17 22:43:10 :p Sep 17 22:43:39 hey guys, what's new? Sep 17 22:43:41 ap mode would be cool in ar6k Sep 17 22:44:09 and the ti calypso playing together with my gemalto SIM would be cool Sep 17 22:44:13 I guess I don't know why? I can't picture what you would use AP mode for in a device like that. Sep 17 22:44:14 agreed. Sep 17 22:44:17 I got a nice car holder for my moko....thats new i guess Sep 17 22:44:35 Pyrasi: cool. picture? Sep 17 22:44:44 Pyrasi: wait, it's not a cup holder, is it? Sep 17 22:44:45 Wonka: is the SIM reader in the FR by gemalto? Sep 17 22:44:55 I'll take one later tonite when i get the chance Sep 17 22:45:13 no...it has a big suction cup to attach to the windshield Sep 17 22:45:37 I worry about where devices would end up if those suction cups let go... Sep 17 22:45:41 jaj: huh? Sep 17 22:45:59 jaj: what do you call a "SIM reader"? Sep 17 22:46:23 jaj: the SIM slot is wired to the ti calypso GSM chipset. and gemalto is a SIM card manufacturer. Sep 17 22:46:49 the sides of it are adjustable, so I was able to hook up a car charger to the usb, external gps antenna, and the audio port is avail for playing audio to the radio someday ;) Sep 17 22:47:02 however....it works well as a gps device in the car now...lol Sep 17 22:47:29 Wonka: oh ok. gemalto also manufacture usb smart card readers which can read SIM cards so I thought there may be an additional chipset between the SIM and the calypso Sep 17 22:48:18 Is there a working image where I can easily go from ringtone to vibrate (for when in meetings) Sep 17 22:48:31 2008.9 Sep 17 22:48:40 will do that in the settings Sep 17 22:48:53 and FSO will go from silent to ring in the prefs now i think Sep 17 22:49:55 I don't see 2008.9? http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Distributions Sep 17 22:50:48 search for FDOM Sep 17 22:50:54 Pyrasi do you need an external gps antenna for it to work well as a gps device in the car _ Sep 17 22:50:56 that will be your best bet atm Sep 17 22:51:30 sicu: No....but the TTFF is like 15 seconds with one. Sep 17 22:52:33 Pyrasi: ok, any particular ext antenna you'd recommend? Sep 17 22:52:44 OK thanks, downloading now to try it Sep 17 22:53:15 i just bought a really cheap one off of ebay...haha.. shipped from hong kong...but it works great Sep 17 22:53:54 has a big magnet on the end for sticking to the hood of the car Sep 17 22:55:24 * rooly considers getting fdom Sep 17 22:55:29 anyone know anything about it? Sep 17 23:07:10 holy crap...with no suspend? Sep 18 02:15:54 hey, is anyone here fairly knowledgeable about at&t US plans Sep 18 02:18:54 anyone? Sep 18 02:18:57 i wanna know about tmobiles plans Sep 18 02:19:36 slaxxin, i just got out of tmobile Sep 18 02:19:56 we were on suncom and they were bought out by tmobile Sep 18 02:20:04 and tmobile has given us nothing but grief Sep 18 02:20:19 they no nothing about their own plans Sep 18 02:20:30 i never got a straight answer Sep 18 02:20:40 * torindel yawns Sep 18 02:20:59 Eons ago I was with a small local ISP that was bought by Earthlink -- who then gave me nothing but grief. I have vowed never to use Earthlink because of it. Sep 18 02:21:18 RayDar, sounds exactly like what happened Sep 18 02:21:26 i was so pleased with suncom Sep 18 02:22:39 tkep: It was painful for me but I finally managed to find a suitable replacement. I haven't ever looked back -- except to notice Earthlink ads and be disgusted. Sep 18 02:23:05 * RayDar waits paitently for KDE 4.1 to be in the main Gentoo repository Sep 18 02:23:15 so i guess no one has dealt with getting gprs connectivity with at&t and what their plans are like? Sep 18 02:23:59 RayDar: why not e17? ;] Sep 18 02:24:11 tkep: I just got AT&T prepaid and I am using their $20/month unlimited GPRS. It works wonderfully. Sep 18 02:24:14 hrm, trying to install zoneinfo and I'm getting an error code of 2... Sep 18 02:24:46 RayDar, well, here's the deal. My wife and I just got a family plan with 2 palm centros Sep 18 02:24:57 I obviously didn't need a new phone, my freerunner will work just fine Sep 18 02:25:03 but hell, it's a free palm Sep 18 02:25:44 tkep: I'll take one of those Centros off your hands if you don't want them. Sep 18 02:26:23 so, my question is this: I currently have no data plan...and at&t right now wants me to get their "pda" data package Sep 18 02:26:35 which i am pretty sure is just edge/3g with nothing special Sep 18 02:27:02 if i call up and say "hey, i just want standard grps, i am not using the palm, can you do that for me?" will they do it? Sep 18 02:27:06 that's my biggest deal Sep 18 02:27:28 and RayDar, I'd sell it cheap, but my mom needs a new phone after dropping her nokia. and she has at&t Sep 18 02:28:20 tkep: "you shitty palm broke and i'm useing something that have gprs only" Sep 18 02:28:25 >_> Sep 18 02:28:31 does anyone else have issues connecting to the freerunner (ssh over usb) after updating with the angstrom repos? Sep 18 02:28:38 tkep: If "Media Net" is available for your plan, just add that to your service. Unlimited is $20 and they have limited versions that are cheaper. Sep 18 02:28:46 torindel, i like the way you think Sep 18 02:28:58 RayDar, so is "media net" not some limited, pos service? Sep 18 02:29:05 because i can add that to my phone right now Sep 18 02:30:19 tkep: The $20 Media Net is unlimited 3G data -- however I have read that some people think AT&T's 3G is slower than it should be. Sep 18 02:30:43 RayDar, doesn't matter, the freerunner is slow as balls online anyway Sep 18 02:30:47 wouldn't see 3g speeds Sep 18 02:30:54 tkep: And all the ports are available. You are directly on the Internet with the MediaNet. Sep 18 02:31:05 even the palm is just edge Sep 18 02:31:14 RayDar, awesome Sep 18 02:31:18 adding it as we speak Sep 18 02:32:50 thanks RayDar, that's what i needed to know Sep 18 02:33:18 now, does anyone else have problems connecting over usb/ssh after updating from angstrom repo? Sep 18 02:34:02 * RayDar watches them sway and thinks "I guess balls really are slow." Sep 18 02:44:27 Help? I'm stuck installing Debian. It's installed but refusing to boot from the microSD. So I flashed the uboot to the latest (no joy), and am trying to get the script running that is mentioned on http://wiki.debian.org/DebianOnFreeRunner under "Adjusting your uBoot Environment" Sep 18 02:45:30 Problem is, it doesn't say if that should be run on the freerunner, or the PC. Regardless I keep getting an error : line 78: dfu-util: command not found Sep 18 02:45:42 but I have the dfu-util in the same directory.
