Jun 03 04:51:36 nope Jun 03 04:53:30 would never dare, maybe cherrypick particular pckgs, if there's a bug supposed to be fixed Jun 03 04:54:23 Each image is carefully vetted for bugs, by well-trained professionals. Jun 03 04:54:37 Unfortunately, someone employed professional acrobats. Jun 03 04:55:01 for now I only have downgrade for settings-power, to get refresh back Jun 03 04:56:00 SpeedEvil: hrrhrrr Jun 03 04:59:29 well, down to 30% after 12h of IRC Jun 03 04:59:58 sure no tablet-like result, but not that bad Jun 03 05:07:53 and a quick test shows each resume causes pidgin (probably) to send some internet traffic, so gprs starts to transmit. Sure this eats quite some power Jun 03 05:11:36 now we have a mouse Jun 03 05:16:29 get a cat Jun 03 05:18:43 i need to sell some cats Jun 03 05:22:06 lol random Jun 03 06:40:43 I've been having spotty calling issues in shr oemerge Jun 03 06:41:26 has a bug been filed yet about dialer/contacts not managing to make calls every now and then? Jun 03 06:50:02 oh good lord. i have to turn swap on on my sdcard for opkg to finish the upgrade list Jun 03 07:11:58 good morning Jun 03 07:12:15 good morning Jun 03 07:12:24 hmm. where did 'findutils' pkg go Jun 03 14:53:50 I just received my new FR! Yeah! Is it supposed to be so hard to open the case of the FR? Jun 03 14:56:53 after sometimes of removing the battery it is easier to open the case ;-) Jun 03 14:59:42 curl your fingers, hold wrist rigid - place back of FR into palm, and one fingernail into slot Jun 03 15:00:03 now, holding case with other hand - press down with the heel of your hand, and it just pops off Jun 03 15:01:04 failing that eat some spinach Jun 03 15:01:54 I currently have an offer for any FR owner turning up - free spinach. Jun 03 15:02:04 (Fife, Scotland) Jun 03 15:02:23 thanks for the help! Jun 03 15:02:57 Also - an offer of an upgrade to your GTA02 - to make the case easier to open, remove any glamo problem, and add a stereo speaker. Jun 03 15:21:19 thrashold: that's what I meant. :) Jun 03 15:22:14 Yep, that's a cool upgrade, unfortunately I broke mine :) Jun 03 16:19:11 ahoi Jun 03 17:03:03 hi guys...i have a little question about GPS...on OM2009 runs GPS out of the box or is neccessary to set it up? Jun 03 20:04:27 Suspending during call sounds like a great idea to me. The concept itself should get a Nobel price or something. Jun 03 20:15:14 DocScrutinizer: well it was one of the ideas which lead to the direct wire between sound chipset & gsm, wasn't it? Jun 03 20:15:20 IIRC I talked about that with mickey|sun Jun 03 20:15:26 And then asked him how we were supposed to hang up Jun 03 20:27:52 <|Ron|> Hello all, I am planning on buying a new mirco SD card, does the speed class matter much for the Neo FR? Jun 03 21:12:39 retracile: I can't on balance say I'm surprised - after what's happened in the last year or so. Jun 03 21:13:07 oh jesus... Jun 03 21:13:10 Moreover sales decreased suddenly because of the rumor of an GTA3.... big error Jun 03 21:13:33 this makes me rage Jun 03 21:13:49 SpeedEvil: Yeah, I'm not particularly surprised either. Especially since the buzz issue made the phone unusable as a phone for me. I've wound up moving to an ADP1 to have a working phone that's as Open as I can get. Jun 03 21:14:09 well that's the trouble with truly open projects like this Jun 03 21:14:11 In many ways - the relations with the community have been the horrible problem. Jun 03 21:14:18 people see it firsthand rise from the dust Jun 03 21:14:39 from its conception as a dirty unusable bit of software Jun 03 21:14:44 SpeedEvil : what do you mean ? Jun 03 21:14:52 and then think, "oh, it'll still be like that in six months, i bet." Jun 03 21:14:56 The unfortunate realities not - I suspect from both sides - having matched hopes. Jun 03 21:15:12 whereas Google tends to keep their opensauce projects quiet for a little while Jun 03 21:15:23 and don't say a word about them until they're largely usable Jun 03 21:15:46 and I just hate that it works that way Jun 03 21:16:14 Add to that some people that were perhaps a bit too optimistic in predictions - me included at times - don't help the wider public perception. Jun 03 21:16:32 yeah Jun 03 21:16:37 PR sucks Jun 03 21:16:44 it looks like linux at the really first time ... Jun 03 21:17:06 not very usable ... but now ... Jun 03 21:17:18 Also - there is the perception that hardware is 'easy' Jun 03 21:17:19 still, i'm really happy to bought it :) Jun 03 21:17:25 I must say, neovento is LARGELY more usable tahn my motorola RAZR Jun 03 21:17:26 (amongst many software people) Jun 03 21:17:39 and that it doesn't take many, many thousands to dev a phone. Jun 03 21:18:10 you know, more people in my LUG are becmoning interested in the FreeRunner Jun 03 21:18:11 SpeedEvil : not me :p too bad with electronics stuff Jun 03 21:18:27 oh, hang on, i think a chinese person is dictionary attacking me again Jun 03 21:18:30 it doesnt take thousands to dev a phone hardwarewise, I put a whole $400 into my prototype Jun 03 21:18:35 * SpeedEvil guesses no chance of free GTA02 anymore. (but I've not been working on my 01 enough to justify the outlay) Jun 03 21:18:57 ndnihil: err - a phone-sized fast processor good screen device? Jun 03 21:18:57 it takes much cash to take that prototype and turn it into a usable/practical device though Jun 03 21:19:12 I hadn't gotten around to the screen part yet Jun 03 21:19:15 ndnihil: I have a $50 or so phone I made. Jun 03 21:19:28 was planning on a PSP screen with touchscreen Jun 03 21:19:30 It has only one button though, and no screen. Jun 03 21:19:37 yea but 85% of the R&D is done Jun 03 21:20:09 DrRabbit : Ssh attack ? ;) Jun 03 21:20:10 Make that phone-sized, phone-weight, phone-power-consumption, with all the peripherals, suspend working right, bulletproof power managment, ... Jun 03 21:20:16 iphone screens from china 11 bucks Jun 03 21:20:37 ST1: no, actually i think it's a french chick that I gave ssh access to my computer Jun 03 21:20:44 I used a telit module with an 8bit AVR for testing, then moved it to an AP7000 32bit AVR, then saw that the neo had come out nice and proper Jun 03 21:20:49 she leaves an IRSSI session running Jun 03 21:20:52 so its parts are now in a box Jun 03 21:20:55 and she's on like five different networks Jun 03 21:21:47 ndnihil: the hard part is going BGA, and the required 6 or so layer PCB. Jun 03 21:21:52 fuck bga Jun 03 21:21:54 in its ass Jun 03 21:22:02 ndnihil: which adds maybe $200-$300 to your prototype Jun 03 21:22:11 ndnihil: or alternatively a huge case. Jun 03 21:22:14 yeah Jun 03 21:22:25 Which is fine - but it's not really a phone anymore Jun 03 21:22:45 I almost sent off some eagle boards to get made, but that's when I realized I was in over my head for a single person project :) Jun 03 21:22:47 (Or I mean useable as an average phone you can take everywhere) Jun 03 21:22:50 * ST1 lost in discussion !! Jun 03 21:24:58 ndnihil: oh - and for extra fun - the $several10'sofk you need to drop on getting a cheap case. Jun 03 21:25:10 ugh yeah Jun 03 21:25:17 I'm going to bed. Jun 03 22:28:52 aircrack without monitor mode would be sorta useless... Jun 04 00:13:16 oh, and the spookiest thing, i'd imported my contacts as vcards into my fdom install on the internal flash, and also onto my qtopia install on the sd card. i reflashed the internal rootfs and kernel with om2009, and repartitioned and formatted the sd card in a card reader, and was more than a little suprised to see my contacts sat there in the contacts of my fresh om2009 install Jun 04 00:14:09 what could have happened? Jun 04 00:14:33 oh, and hello :) Jun 04 00:18:56 check your sim, they're probably on that Jun 04 00:19:05 contacts are stored on sim Jun 04 00:19:29 oh :D Jun 04 00:20:02 i wasn't expecting that Jun 04 00:20:08 ;] Jun 04 00:20:46 i followed the instructions at http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Import_Vcf_Contacts Jun 04 00:21:23 perhaps someone who has more understanding than me could add something informative to it Jun 04 00:21:46 so "addressbook path_to_vCards_file_to_import.vcf" put them straight into the sim? Jun 04 00:22:06 or does it copy them to both the sim and the sqlite db for good measure Jun 04 00:22:32 * tim_abell = noob even after having the phone for months Jun 04 00:25:30 any ideas on the opkg thing? I've been burnt before when a package has replaced things i didn't bargain on (I lost the nice full illume keyboard from fdom last time) Jun 04 00:28:17 basically i want a list of what is more or less safe to install under om2009 without breaking it Jun 04 00:29:34 like http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Applications **** ENDING LOGGING AT Thu Jun 04 02:59:58 2009
