Is it normal behaviour that the gsm loses its fix Jun 22 07:59:03 hi there is it possible to put uboot back on if i put qi on my phone ? Jun 22 08:02:54 k cool wiki fixed that q Jun 22 08:04:38 d1b: there is no problem of doing this. just reflash Jun 22 08:07:04 k Jun 22 08:10:52 openmoko: 03alvieboy * r5189 10/trunk/gta02-core/pmu.sch: PMU - some small fixes Jun 22 08:15:36 openmoko: 03alvieboy * r5190 10/trunk/gta02-core/pmu.sch: PMU - some small fixes Jun 22 08:43:03 Hi. I've mixed up some settings in Nor boot menu. I tried to apply this: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Android_on_Freerunner#Modify_Uboot_as_Bootloader_for_more_than_2MB Jun 22 08:43:17 Now I cannot flash the device. It's a Freerunner Jun 22 08:44:58 Is there a way to restore NOR? Jun 22 08:45:03 mornning Jun 22 09:06:12 TeNoVi: hey Jun 22 09:06:33 PaulFertser, Hi Jun 22 09:06:35 TeNoVi: NOR boot menu is immutable. You can't change it in any way. Jun 22 09:06:52 TeNoVi: it's hardcoded in u-boot binary that's factory flashed to NOR. Jun 22 09:07:34 PaulFertser, hmm... But the settings I applyed? Is that my problem, or do you think there is something else? Jun 22 09:08:42 PaulFertser, I've had some problems flashing, but I'm trying to flash a new image now. Maybe it will work this time Jun 22 09:09:50 TeNoVi: you can't change NOR in any way if you don't use a debug board or other hardware hacks. Jun 22 09:11:02 PaulFertser, Okay... Then I guess I just had a bad day. It seams okay so far in the flashing progress. Jun 22 09:11:34 TeNoVi: i recommend you to read wiki carefully to understand NOR/NAND differences etc. Jun 22 09:13:01 PaulFertser, Yes. I've red a bit about it. I didn't think it was possible to destroy the NOR flash without a debugboard, but since I couldn't boot or flash from NOR I got a bit scared Jun 22 09:13:40 TeNoVi: how do you tell you can't boot from NOR? Jun 22 09:15:47 PaulFertser, It started to load the flashed system (In my case Qtei and later Android) but failed and restarted, or just freezed. I guess it was the kernel. It loaded just fine with Qi Jun 22 09:19:23 TeNoVi: i don't recommend booting with NOR at all. The reason for that is that NOR u-boot is old and contains some bugs. Jun 22 09:23:25 PaulFertser, I see. I usualy only use NOR for booting when booting my second system Jun 22 09:24:41 TeNoVi: Qi has an ability to multiboot too. Jun 22 09:24:53 TeNoVi: you can skip a boot possibility by pressing AUX. Jun 22 09:24:58 PaulFertser, I thought so, but I never got it to work Jun 22 09:25:44 TeNoVi: you just need to press AUX at the right time. Experiment and you'll feel it (because Qi vibrates when it skips a boot possibility). Jun 22 09:26:40 PaulFertser, Thanks. Jun 22 09:28:03 TeNoVi: also keep in mind that Qi doesn't use any "environment", everything is hardcoded. NOR u-boot has its enviromnent hardcoded too. Jun 22 09:28:27 PaulFertser, NOR is functional again now. I think... :P But I'll try to get used to multiboot with Qi Jun 22 09:48:36 NOR read only bootloader, GOOD if you fudge up the NAND boot (that is where the normal bootloader is located ?), NAND kernel is where the kernel lives (with Qi kernel can also also be on the first fat or ext2 partition on the uSD), rootfs not sure if there is one on the NAND but as I understand the wiki there has to be (debian moved to nand for example) but is usually located on the uSD Jun 22 09:48:47 PaulFertser: did I get it more or less ? Jun 22 09:50:15 leila: with u-boot kernel can be on SD too Jun 22 09:50:45 leila: most distros have their rootfs on NAND Jun 22 09:50:54 leila: debian is one of the exceptions that use SD usually Jun 22 09:51:35 lindi-: Qi can't read FAT Jun 22 09:51:54 leila: Qi uses the same partition it read kernel from as a root partition. Jun 22 09:53:02 PaulFertser: but not with NAND? since it surely does not know how to read jffs2 which is the rootfs type there usually Jun 22 09:53:56 lindi-: yes, not with nand. If it read the kernel from nand kernel partition it passes nand rootfs partition as kernel parameter. Jun 22 09:54:43 and i you want to repartition NAND you need to modify Qi sources probably? Jun 22 09:55:15 lindi-: yes Jun 22 09:55:31 lindi-: Qi is SD-centric. For SD rootfs it works good and predictable. Jun 22 09:56:54 PaulFertser: but what if you want to still repartition flash as a data partition? Jun 22 09:57:11 lindi-: append-GTA02 should work for that, i guess. Jun 22 09:57:28 PaulFertser: but doesn't Qi read the factory partition from fixed location on bootup? Jun 22 09:57:41 (maybe it knows how to fail with that though) Jun 22 09:58:50 lindi-: hm, i've already started to think that factory partition reading should be removed for consistency. Jun 22 10:04:27 Does OM 2009 expects /media/card to be fat or ext? Jun 22 10:04:46 it goes both ways I think Jun 22 10:05:49 PaulFertser: what about ethernet MAC's then? IMO they're stored on a factory partition... Jun 22 10:06:06 Q-Master: distro can set it (as SHR is doing) Jun 22 10:06:23 PaulFertser: definitely Jun 22 10:06:38 ndnihil: Which one is more suitable for sd? Jun 22 10:06:55 uzytkownik: jasne, ze ext3 :P Jun 22 10:06:59 dos1: hm. so why then qi is trying to send it to kernel as params? Jun 22 10:07:42 Q-Master: cause when it was writen, there was no distro which set it itself? Jun 22 10:07:53 heh Jun 22 10:08:05 and maybe it's for g_ether compiled in kernel Jun 22 10:08:08 but i'm not sure Jun 22 10:08:11 dos1: Ok. While I'm waiting for 2.6.30 with nil2 I'm going to use ext3. Jun 22 10:08:20 I use ext2 on mine Jun 22 10:08:35 i use ext3 for rootfs on sd Jun 22 10:08:54 ext3 is better for sd card than ext2 (less risk for data corruption) Jun 22 10:09:44 I'm not using it for anything major, just holding files between flashes most of the time, and I keep it all rsync'd to the workstation on top fo that Jun 22 10:09:47 Q-Master: lindi- i think that any sane distro should compile g_ether as a module anyway. Jun 22 10:10:27 * ndnihil gets antsy, only 6 more minutes Jun 22 10:11:13 And in that case initscripts can read the fartory partition by themselves. Jun 22 19:04:07 ndnihil: cat /proc/cpuinfo also it's written on the pcb. Jun 22 19:04:21 ndnihil: have you already dismounted the can at least once? Jun 22 19:04:27 nope Jun 22 19:04:53 ndnihil: i suggest you refer to instructions at GTA02_bass_fix then. Be careful. Jun 22 19:05:08 will do Jun 22 19:05:17 can't be much worse than taking apart any other phone Jun 22 19:05:28 motorolas can be quite a delicate pain in the ass Jun 22 19:05:40 particularly with the new style keypads Jun 22 19:05:50 that shit bends way too easily Jun 22 19:06:42 ndnihil: cans in nokia phones can be dismounted more easily. With FR you need more patience. Jun 22 19:12:25 PaulFertser: are you saying that with some of the revisions volume can't be changed, is too high / low, or it's just different? Jun 22 19:12:52 UndrWater: just different so you need to tweak alsa controls to your liking yourself. Jun 22 19:13:04 got it Jun 22 19:13:31 is there a standard name for the headset speaker? Jun 22 19:13:32 UndrWater: have you seen the pretty routing diagram? Jun 22 19:13:43 no Jun 22 19:14:10 UndrWater: http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_1973_audio_subsystem Jun 22 19:14:55 aha..very pretty Jun 22 19:15:09 same as the gta02? Jun 22 19:16:11 ndnihil: it's actually for the gta02 Jun 22 19:16:37 ndnihil: gta01 alsa driver is kind of different. The "pretty" diagram with alsa control names is for gta02. Jun 22 19:18:18 that's great...very helpful Jun 22 19:18:24 thank you Jun 22 19:20:55 UndrWater: you're welcome Jun 22 19:24:42 <[Rui]> how does one close a window in Elementary? Not the main window, just another one...? Jun 22 19:24:44 openmoko: 03alvieboy * r5199 10/trunk/gta02-core/gps.sch: GPS work in progress Jun 22 19:29:31 openmoko: 03werner * r5200 10/trunk/gta02-core/docs/ecn/ (STATUS ecn0009.txt): Completed ECN0009. Jun 22 19:34:33 Revision : 24420360 Jun 22 19:34:43 ndnihil: that's v6 Jun 22 19:34:46 I don't suppose there is a wiki page regarding the translation of revision? Jun 22 19:34:48 ah Jun 22 19:35:09 ndnihil: 2442 is the SoC name (same for all gta02s), 0306 means gta02v6 Jun 22 19:35:58 gotcha Jun 22 19:35:59 thanks Jun 22 19:36:44 so 03 is the third version? prototype, gta01, gta02? Jun 22 19:36:49 ndnihil: my v6 probably has 0R there (but i forgot to actually check when it was easy to do during bass fix). But some devices, probably including v5 and v7 have 1uF there. Even OM employees are unable to tell. Jun 22 19:37:08 ndnihil: (03) no idea Jun 22 19:39:22 I did notice an afterthought of a resistor(?) on the uSD pins Jun 22 19:40:04 ndnihil: it's a cap Jun 22 19:40:41 ah Jun 22 19:40:51 ndnihil: to avoid interference from SD communication on GPS reception. Jun 22 19:42:01 ndnihil: unfortunately, it's not enough because data lines are the same as clock and can harm too. OTOH kernel allows to tune drive strength, so GPS can work well even when uSD is actively used. Jun 22 19:42:29 any way to speed up gps fix? Jun 22 19:42:36 ndnihil: agps Jun 22 19:42:44 ndnihil: but not yet supported in FSO. Jun 22 19:42:46 ndnihil: external gps antenna. climb to a mountain Jun 22 19:43:08 to be honest, I'm surprised it works at all in here Jun 22 19:43:20 this house is built with wire mesh and plaster Jun 22 19:43:25 it's a large farraday cage Jun 22 19:43:28 :) Jun 22 19:43:53 ndnihil: or you can get a fix in advance (but not more than 2-4 hours before), turn gps off, then the fix will be as fast as with agps. Jun 22 19:44:09 (almost) Jun 22 19:44:57 so the chip/the scripts actually store the ephemeris data from the last time? Jun 22 19:45:08 mjr: FSO does that, yes Jun 22 19:45:22 oo Jun 22 19:49:45 mjr: you can also get them from internet Jun 22 19:49:57 yeah I know Jun 22 19:50:20 but minimizing unnecessary reliance on that is nice Jun 22 19:50:34 yes Jun 22 19:50:48 there using gsm cell database to estimate current position helps Jun 22 21:01:27 Python packaging in shr is kind of fucked up. python-email depends on python-audio (?!!!) Jun 22 22:17:58 novalis_dt: you know where the shr bugtracker is at, don't you? Jun 22 23:03:59 I've got a question about opkg, is this the right forum? Jun 22 23:04:15 I'm wondering if there's some docs on opkg.conf Jun 22 23:09:47 tclarke2: i think you can mostly use ipkg docs as a reference. Jun 22 23:10:53 ok, I'll see if that yields anything...a quick google shows a page in "Building a Custom Distribution" re: ipkg.conf...prob has enough info for what I need Jun 22 23:10:54 thanks Jun 23 01:12:26 * fredrin one should add fan-boys section to the who'swho wiki page Jun 23 01:35:36 heheheh Jun 23 02:35:58 superdave **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Jun 23 02:59:57 2009
