**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Fri Dec 11 02:59:56 2009 Dec 11 03:02:25 hmm Dec 11 03:02:38 it's as if the sheeva wasn't connected at all to the host... Dec 11 03:04:47 brb, trying to reboot the pc... Dec 11 03:17:52 Chunky_Ks: ping Dec 11 04:13:05 pong Dec 11 06:37:28 so i've tried every cable i can find on 2 different machines and the same result Dec 11 06:37:43 same JTAG error while trying to run the sheeva_installer Dec 11 06:39:44 my plug used to come up in lsusb with a description. now, it has a blank description... Dec 11 06:39:52 i wonder if i broke somehting :( Dec 11 06:59:15 trip0: which version of the installer are you using and did you read the instructions carefully? Dec 11 07:00:53 1.0 of the installer Dec 11 07:01:06 and yes, I've really read good the instructions this time Dec 11 07:01:17 tinker-f595 Dec 11 07:02:36 which version of the plug do you have? Dec 11 07:03:19 did you edit the config file it is complaining about and if so which editor did you use? Dec 11 07:03:21 version number is part of the model? Dec 11 07:03:54 well there have been 3 revisions of the plugthat I know of Dec 11 07:03:56 i used nano to edit the file Dec 11 07:04:04 003-SP1001 Dec 11 07:04:06 ok that sounds good Dec 11 07:04:20 what did you change in the file? Dec 11 07:04:27 complains about line 7 in sheevaplug.conf Dec 11 07:04:58 well what is line 7 in your sheevaplug.conf ? Dec 11 07:05:02 2 secs Dec 11 07:05:26 http://pastebin.com/f6ad2c074 Dec 11 07:05:32 have you been able to see the plug via a terminal program? Dec 11 07:05:55 yes, i can screen to it Dec 11 07:06:04 and it tries to boot... Dec 11 07:06:10 ok Dec 11 07:06:26 it complains about the "interface ft2232" line... Dec 11 07:06:53 then you have the usb-serial driver installed correctly Dec 11 07:07:06 wonder why it does not like the interface line Dec 11 07:07:21 and you said the cable has not been falling out Dec 11 07:07:50 i think so. i'm on ubuntu 9.04. and i've modprobe'd the ftdi_sio module with the vendor and product like the wiki suggests Dec 11 07:08:14 the cable(s) seem a little loose, but it's connected in there Dec 11 07:08:24 i've tried 4 different cables so far Dec 11 07:08:37 odly, i get the same error without any cable attached Dec 11 07:09:12 hmmmm Dec 11 07:09:23 be back in a minute.... Dec 11 07:09:24 but if it wasn't connected well, would i even be able to screen to it? Dec 11 07:11:44 you would lose your connection if it fell out Dec 11 07:11:57 right Dec 11 07:12:13 i've even held it in physically durning the process Dec 11 07:12:26 it hasn't ever "fallen out" per say... it's just a little loose Dec 11 07:12:34 I was jsut looking at the host I use ( I took it off the network for maintenance a few minutes back) Any way it has the same code as you are using in the config file Dec 11 07:12:51 as in I can wiggle it about 5 degrees in any direction. It probably doesn't make a difference tho Dec 11 07:13:25 The only thing I can think of is you have a control character hidden in line 7. Have you looked at the file with a hex editor to see if that is the possibility? Dec 11 07:13:58 lemme see Dec 11 07:14:07 trip0 being loose should only be a problem if it is not all the way in or falls out Dec 11 07:14:32 k Dec 11 07:14:51 well need to go to sleep now Dec 11 07:15:08 it is getting late here and I need to be awake early Dec 11 07:15:27 alright Dec 11 07:15:28 thanks Dec 11 07:15:41 i'll post in the forum, see if I can get some additional ideas... Dec 11 07:15:50 you did not use any MS Windows editors on the file? Dec 11 07:15:58 no Dec 11 07:16:17 i actually had the error before I even touched the file Dec 11 07:16:26 ok so not a cr/lf problem Dec 11 07:16:33 oh ! Dec 11 07:17:13 hmmmm that is strange Dec 11 07:17:22 well as I said I really need to go to sleep Dec 11 07:17:24 good luck Dec 11 07:17:29 thakns again Dec 11 07:17:48 search the forum as someone else may have run into a similar problem Dec 11 07:17:51 night Dec 11 15:02:39 exit Dec 11 15:08:08 * armin76 agrees Dec 11 15:57:59 hey folks... i think i've messed up my plug somewhat... when i plug into the jtag port, i only get one serial device, the console one seems to have died... any suggestions? Dec 11 16:08:29 Shihan: are you sure the one you're getting isn't the console port? I didn't look that carefully but I only noticed one serial device when I hooked mine up to use it via console. I did it via Linux, if that matters. Dec 11 16:09:14 yeah, im in linux as well, its definitely only the jtag port coming up Dec 11 16:09:31 hmm, mine's not at my fingertips so I can't test it Dec 11 16:10:18 try a new cable? not likely the issue but an easy thing to try. Dec 11 16:11:12 yeah, i gave a few a try.. its quite weird... Dec 11 16:11:26 its possible i did something dumb without realising it Dec 11 16:13:05 hopefully you didn't Dec 11 16:13:09 reboot your machine? :) Dec 11 16:13:14 try a hard reset too (i.e. shut it down entirely for 5 minutes) Dec 11 16:13:17 (no power) Dec 11 16:13:50 stop using ubuntu? :D Dec 11 16:16:51 lll Dec 11 16:16:52 lol Dec 11 16:17:04 i only get one port in 9.10 as well Dec 11 16:17:08 in 9.04 i get 2 Dec 11 16:18:05 actually, its quite weird, it started happening at work today (fedora 10) so i brang it home with me Dec 11 16:19:33 it may have something to do with the usb cause i do get a weird thing that happens after rebooting the plug Dec 11 17:50:39 Shihan: that's odd, in ubuntu it ignores the jtag port for me, always only get serial console Dec 11 17:53:47 ahh, so one is the jtag port, the other is a serial console... Dec 11 17:54:02 which one does openocd use? Dec 11 17:54:08 (assumes the jtag device) Dec 11 17:54:32 yes Dec 11 17:55:21 morfic: i just noted a new kernel push in karmic-proposed this morning. It had the fixes for ftdi_sio that had since been missing from karmic's kernel since release Dec 11 17:57:23 tripzero: don't think it was in jaunty, but not sure, never use ubuntu kernels Dec 11 17:58:45 morfic: hows your reinstall going? Dec 11 17:59:23 morfic: u roll your own kernel? nice :) Dec 11 18:00:16 armin76: reinstall of what? sheeva? not going at all yet, not sure yet what i put on there Dec 11 18:04:01 armin76: mainly being held up by wondering what to run on laptop when i run what on sheeva Dec 11 18:06:14 morfic: ubuntu :D Dec 11 18:07:03 i'll tell bonsaikitten you want me on ubuntu then Dec 11 18:23:44 i ended up kicking off another sheevainstall and its gone back to normal now... hmmm **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Dec 12 02:59:57 2009
