**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Apr 18 02:59:57 2011 Apr 18 04:33:03 Any reports of heating problems with the new Dreamplug? Apr 18 04:48:22 Tootoot222: i have /var/lock and /var/run in tmpfs, i should be fine, right? Apr 18 06:50:39 bullfinch: we had one user with heat-issues last week in thischannel. in hiscase 1 of 2 dreamplug had issues Apr 18 15:16:10 bullfinch: I was the user; globalscale is RMA'ing the plug. I think the CPU had way too low of a thermal tolerence. Our temp measurements are much higher on the 2nd dreamplug, and its working very well and rock solid. Apr 18 15:16:53 I think the defective plug was maxing out at around 87*F on the outside case; this one gets up to 100*F (as measured by an IR camera) Apr 18 15:18:06 The design is much better, though. the DreamPlug is flatter (but larger "footprint"). The PSU is seperated from the main computing (and is much cooler). the front has ventallation slits top and bottom, and directly under that is the heat spreader plate with all the hot stuff against it. The back side is where all the connectors and such are. Apr 18 15:18:37 It looks a bit cheesier than previous plugs, but still fine. We haven't messed with the audio at all and are still working on kernels and such. Apr 18 15:42:56 kerio: i was more thingking of /var/log, lock and run only get files written to them when the daemons startup, and you could go for weeks without starting/restart a daemon =p Apr 18 23:22:45 Hi all: I'm now trying to get my dreamplug to work again. Apr 18 23:23:03 Its currently hanging immediately following "uncompressing LInux... done, booting the kernel." Apr 18 23:23:16 This is with the stock load, afaik Apr 18 23:23:29 kusznir: what kernel and uboot are you using? Apr 18 23:23:41 Image Name: Linux-2.6.33.6 Apr 18 23:23:56 U-Boot 2011.06-02334-g8f495d9-dirty (Mar 28 2011 - 05:21:06) Apr 18 23:23:59 compiled yourself? Apr 18 23:24:29 Nope, kernel is what shipped on it; uboot is the newer uboot available online at the google code repo. Apr 18 23:24:57 Are any of the sheeva.with-linux.org kernels known to work on dreamplugs? I'll try a tftp load... Apr 18 23:27:47 try them and see, only one way to find out if the doy Apr 18 23:27:51 s/y$// Apr 18 23:28:33 Well, since the configuration that is supposed to work is not, I wanted to try a configuration that is KNOWN to work, as there is now some question as to whether my hardware was damaged. Apr 18 23:31:51 although its also unclear how that happened. It was working Friday. A guy from the lab took it home over the weekend and was messing with openocd to try and get a version built that works. He succeeded, but swears he never did any writing to it. Today, it doesn't boot (hangs there). Apr 18 23:32:07 What are some causes for it to hang like that, especially on a kernel that was previously known to boot it? Apr 18 23:32:42 kusznir: my guruplug does the same thing Apr 18 23:32:56 i have to unplug it for ~3 minutes and plug it in again, boots the first time no questions Apr 18 23:33:00 but after that it hangs Apr 18 23:34:28 Except this is *EVERY* boot (including after its been turned off for a while) Apr 19 00:20:20 So, mtest in the bootloader spews errors (including address bit stuck errors). **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Apr 19 02:59:57 2011
