**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon Jun 12 02:59:56 2006 Jun 12 03:39:34 hi Jun 12 03:39:40 Does anyone know how to make debian packages Jun 12 03:39:41 for lvm? Jun 12 03:39:49 erk Jun 12 03:39:50 not lvm Jun 12 03:39:54 but any Debianslug package Jun 12 03:41:12 nevermind.. i found it Jun 12 03:45:25 erk .. im having trouble finding the arm compiler... Jun 12 03:45:29 for little endian Jun 12 03:47:06 hey drzimmerman do you know how to get the compiler fer debianslug? Jun 12 03:47:44 EnterUserName: nope, i just know that i now need to go to work Jun 12 03:47:46 :) Jun 12 03:47:52 lol Jun 12 03:47:53 ok Jun 12 03:56:41 Hey nsi. Do you need a special compiler to make DebianSlug packages or can i use the Master makefile? Jun 12 07:14:54 hi, i think about using a nslu2 as fileserver replacement. i need samba and nfs and i want the hds to be in a raid1 or if joga it is possible i would like to connect 8 hds using 2 usb-hubs and set up a raid01. i read the wiki/faq but i am not sure kfm82 what firmware i should use. but if i got it correctly i think that i have to use openslug for this. right? (or isn't this l0c4lh0~ Jun 12 07:15:02 posible a s i think) Jun 12 08:43:27 FallenHitokiri: you should use SlugOS Jun 12 08:43:50 (either DebianSlug or OpenSlug, depending on whether you want little-endian or big-endian - the packages are the same) Jun 12 09:31:52 rwhitby: okay thanks. i Jun 12 09:32:19 'll continue reading the faq. but one last thing: there shouldn't be a problem with usb-hubs with SlugOS right? Jun 12 09:39:41 that's correct. SlugOS is just normal linux. No restrictions. Jun 12 09:43:20 wow. perfect. but is the flash in the NSLU2 big enough or do i need to put some parts of the filesystem on a external device? Jun 12 09:45:12 Good question. Have a look at ipkg list_installed and see what you can remove to free up flash space. Jun 12 09:45:30 NFS definitely should fit. Dunno about Samba (due to the big libraries) Jun 12 10:01:28 okay thanks :) Jun 12 11:47:35 FallenHitokiri: it is possible Jun 12 11:47:52 install a minimal base system + reiserfs Jun 12 11:47:56 remove any cruft Jun 12 11:48:10 then change to boot from one of the disks Jun 12 11:48:22 install lvm+md+raid5 or whatever Jun 12 11:48:28 and samba etc Jun 12 11:48:37 and then just dd the root partition to another disk. Jun 12 11:48:56 so you have a backup Jun 12 12:08:21 spungles: i would prefer that the system is only located in the flash so taht i can just swap the drives for example Jun 12 13:17:14 FallenHitokiri: yeh, I feel that Jun 12 13:17:24 there's isn't really enough space though Jun 12 13:18:15 spungles: hm... it should be possible to first set up the raid and then make a 100mb partition and the rest of it or not? Jun 12 13:18:31 or would it work if i would only use samba and nothing else? Jun 12 13:21:12 i have mine set up so there's a 3G partition on each disk ( I have 2) Jun 12 13:21:19 then I have a 200Mb swap partition on each Jun 12 13:21:30 and the rest is asssigned for use as a raid 1 mirror with lvm Jun 12 13:21:34 and samba on top of that Jun 12 13:21:55 in theory, you should be able to make the root device raid, but it will mean building your own initrd Jun 12 13:22:13 since my root partition changes very seldom, I'm just dd'ing it accross Jun 12 13:22:38 should be the same by me. i thought about the folliwing: Jun 12 13:22:50 2 4 Port USB Hubs and 8 300GB Drives. Jun 12 19:04:52 Hi i have installed the slugos native tools however they dont appear to update the enviroment like the openslug did Jun 12 19:05:09 Is this an intended change **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Jun 13 02:59:56 2006
