**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Oct 01 02:59:57 2006 Oct 01 07:51:02 i have a problem with the connection of my nslu2 to my dsl router .... connected to my pc all works fine but if i connected it to the router the ethernet led blinks constantly and if i ping the nslu from another pc the ping comes very very slow Oct 01 07:51:22 and i cant log in with ssh anymore because it times out .... is that a know problem? Oct 01 12:24:27 is there a known problem of nslu2 not working properly with sinus 154 dsl router? Oct 01 12:25:40 not that I've heard of Oct 01 12:26:33 did u read my first post? Oct 01 12:27:04 yeah Oct 01 12:27:10 no idea what's wrong Oct 01 12:27:18 Have you tried replacing the cable? Oct 01 12:27:23 it just like there is something going on Oct 01 12:27:34 yh, tried a crossed one and a normal Oct 01 12:28:01 both have the some problem, eth led blinks very fast and ping is very slow Oct 01 12:28:06 *same Oct 01 12:28:20 that is indeed strange Oct 01 12:28:31 what firmware are you running? Oct 01 12:28:32 but the ping works with both cable Oct 01 12:28:45 1.13 and 1.10 before Oct 01 12:29:05 can u tell me where i can find a old 1.10 firmware image Oct 01 12:29:27 openslug? Oct 01 12:29:29 cause i saved my config date for 1.10 Oct 01 12:29:41 debianslug Oct 01 12:29:47 so should be the same Oct 01 12:29:57 debianslug wasn't released until 3.10-beta Oct 01 12:30:18 and i cant restore the config data from 1.10 to 1.13 Oct 01 12:30:23 are you running openslug with debian on top? Oct 01 12:31:42 im very confused about open and debian slug but i installed that on with the debootstrap Oct 01 12:31:51 *one Oct 01 12:32:29 and sorry about the firmware questions .... they r dsl router specific Oct 01 12:32:43 and i dont think u know what im talking about Oct 01 12:34:21 you seem to be running debonaras on your slug ;) Oct 01 12:34:44 anyway, I can't say I've ever heard of a problem like that Oct 01 12:35:10 about the firmware in your router, I haven't got the faintest Oct 01 12:36:02 and i even unplugged the usb disk ... so it runs in minimal mode .... but still have that blinking Oct 01 13:57:17 baua, have you tried hard coding your ethernet device to various speed settings? Oct 01 13:57:36 nope Oct 01 13:58:13 good point Oct 01 13:59:20 Then may I suggest you try different speed settings? :) Oct 01 13:59:42 Turn off auto-negotiate and try 100FD, 100HD, 10FD, 10HD Oct 01 14:00:29 Also, if you have a seperate switch, does it work then? Oct 01 14:17:05 Any luck baua? Oct 01 14:17:15 still trying Oct 01 15:08:57 seems u guys r right Oct 01 15:09:24 its working in 10FD mode Oct 01 15:10:06 but i works in 100FD with other PCs ... so whats the problem? Oct 01 15:11:06 Probably the firmware on the router doesn't do autonegotiations correctly. You can often put a switch between the devices to make them get along better. Oct 01 15:11:28 but i have none right now Oct 01 15:12:04 but 10FD should be enough for my porpuse Oct 01 15:12:14 Not something I can help with. Maybe a later ethernet driver on your slug will take care of that too. Oct 01 15:12:19 ^later^future Oct 01 15:12:44 Anyhow, glad it works now. Oct 01 15:13:03 for sure Oct 01 20:27:08 hi all Oct 01 20:27:37 i'm trying to find a tutorial for dumping my current firmware to help a friend out Oct 01 20:28:05 anyone around with that kind of info? Oct 01 20:29:52 i got opendebianslug running on my slug Oct 01 20:32:20 anyone? Oct 01 20:33:16 why do you want to dump it? Oct 01 20:33:54 i built mine myself some time ago Oct 01 20:34:38 now i duplicated my system to my friends hd, in order for it to work he needs the matching firmware to run with the kernel modules and all Oct 01 20:35:11 its a full featured debian system, so building it from scratch would take a while Oct 01 20:35:43 since we both need about the same functionality, so duplicating mine seemed like a good idea Oct 01 20:36:08 NAiL: question answered to your content? Oct 01 20:41:14 hmm, yes Oct 01 20:41:43 not entirely sure, but dd if=/dev/mtdblock4 of=filesystem should give you a copy of the rootfs Oct 01 20:42:16 Can't remember the number of the kernel partition, but it might be 2 Oct 01 20:42:26 then you can use upslug2 to flash the separate bits Oct 01 20:42:32 hmm ok Oct 01 20:43:57 i'll give it a try, thank you Oct 01 20:44:12 np Oct 01 20:56:53 CervAnteZ, maybe that http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Info/BootFlash makes some things clear Oct 01 21:10:34 caplink811_log: thx, great starting point! Oct 01 21:10:56 np Oct 01 21:19:13 i found this here: http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/CompletelyBackupTheNSLU2 Oct 01 21:21:44 i gather that running dd if=kernel.bin of=/dev/mtdblock2 would write my kernel to his slug, is that correct? Oct 01 21:25:08 not quite sure that'll work... but you could take a look at the reflash script Oct 01 21:25:34 or, reflash -k kernelimage might be better Oct 01 21:37:54 passed on the info and my dumps, will report as soon as its done Oct 02 02:04:25 My slug stopped responding to network connections. I tried rebooting it, and that didn't help. Then I decided to reflash the firmware. I followed the instructions (turn off, hold down reset, turn on, wait for red, release reset). Now the top LED is flashing amber/red/off. upslug2 doesn't find it. I have tried this a couple of times with the same result. Any ideas? Oct 02 02:07:03 [if there's a better forum for this, please let me know] Oct 02 02:40:55 Hm, I just tried it again and got the red/green as per the instructions, but upslug2 still doesn't find it. (Also, nmap doesn't see any hosts up on the local network, but maybe that's normal) **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Oct 02 02:59:57 2006
