**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Mon May 14 02:59:57 2007 May 14 05:53:19 hi all.. im experiencing troubles with flashing my nslu .... she worked like a charm with openslug 2.7 but when upgrading to 3 or debian the latest stable version my nslu stays unreachable. i flashed server times with upslug and upslug2 succesfully but when i reboot i cant reach the cmdline on dhcp serverlogs no entry and not on 192.168.1.77 or 177 ... I tried also crosscable direct with my laptop but even that did not succeed ... what can i do more? some he May 14 18:16:44 hello May 14 18:17:05 i've got a big problem May 14 18:17:12 i forgot my root password May 14 18:21:28 i used turnup init May 14 18:21:31 to set a root pass May 14 18:21:38 then i rebooted it May 14 18:22:02 and as i was on the phone and i'm a bit stupid i forgot the password i set May 14 18:22:22 i reflash the slug thinking that the password would be erased May 14 18:22:42 but it seams that it's still the same as i cannot gain root ssh acces May 14 18:28:03 can someone help me please ? May 14 18:53:45 uh oh, i've forgotten the password on my openslug, not quite sure how I managed it May 14 18:56:31 any way to reset it without reinstalling? May 14 18:56:49 suppose I could take out the usb disk and change it on there May 14 18:57:23 not sure how advisable that is, doesn't the password get stored in multiple locations on the slug? May 14 19:29:28 Pete_, hi May 14 19:29:38 xkr47: Sorted ;) May 14 19:29:47 how did you do it ?-) May 14 19:30:06 edited /etc/passwd, I was basically just interested if there was another method May 14 19:30:38 funny enough, half an hour before you, someone had the exact same problem, but he quit before we managed to reply to him May 14 19:30:52 weird May 14 19:31:05 I'm not fully aware yet how openslug does it May 14 19:31:33 I'm still on unslung, and was going to try openslug today but then I got a headache :P May 14 19:31:49 would have been a bit more of a problem I imagine if I had been running of the internal flash May 14 19:32:19 in unslung you just power down, remove the usb stick / hard disk where your installation is on, power back up and it will boot from the internal flash instead May 14 19:32:46 then you plug in the memory / hard disk when it's running, and you can edit the passwd file manually May 14 19:33:08 yeah, I guess so.. May 14 19:33:57 Yeh, I imagine you could do the same with openslug, seems to follow there too. May 14 19:34:17 I just took the usb stick and changed it on another pc May 14 19:34:36 hehe May 14 19:34:40 you haxx0r :) May 14 19:34:45 heh May 14 19:35:22 Only really using the slug for messing about with asterisk] May 14 19:36:26 I was going to build an alarm clock out of my slug :) May 14 19:36:34 with mp3 playing and some cute display May 14 19:36:49 I was considering using a second one for a mp3 machine with mpd May 14 19:36:50 or at least that's why I bought it :) May 14 19:37:16 I was looking at VFD displays, they seem cool, but I have a hard time finding where to order them from May 14 19:37:27 they even have nice graphical VFDs May 14 19:38:19 I've got a simpleish serial backlit LCD display, haven't tried (or even considered) hooking up to the slug May 14 19:39:15 I thought about lcd too but they have quite limited viewing angles May 14 19:39:33 and I think they might be harder to read in the dark when you are groggy and just want to know how long you can sleep still :) May 14 19:40:35 then one could ofc get a led display also.. May 14 19:47:20 http://www.noritake-itron.com/ May 14 19:47:27 (vfd displays) May 14 19:49:12 http://i9.tinypic.com/4znwas0.jpg May 14 19:49:40 :) May 14 19:49:49 usb -coonnected ? May 14 19:49:56 cheap solder it yourself job May 14 19:49:59 rs232 May 14 19:50:23 I imagine it would work through one of those usb-serial cables you can get pretty cheap these days May 14 19:50:25 you could solder a rs232 port onto the slug :) May 14 19:50:36 you could do that too May 14 21:26:12 having just flashed the openslug firmware, I wonder how much swap to put, I have a 2G flash stick only May 14 21:28:39 woot, the usb stick automounter does not use noatime by default May 14 21:30:16 how about the separate 128M conf partition that unslung created, is it needed in openslug ? May 14 21:44:06 strange thing, I unmounted all disks in openslug before running fdisk May 14 21:44:14 when I do "w" to write the partition table, it mounts /dev/sda1 automatically before I even got to format it (it happened to start in the same place as the old partition) May 14 22:44:43 gaa, I changed dropbear port to 122 and now it does not respond to 22 nor 122 May 14 22:46:43 \_ following instructions on http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/SwapFromDropbearToOpenSSH **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue May 15 02:59:58 2007
