Dec 27 22:19:20 <mwester> Pick a 2.5" laptop drive, in an external USB box -- while it's best to use external power, many of them actually consume little enough that they don't need external power.  And they are no more noisy than a laptop drive.

Dec 27 22:36:25 <mwester> Then if you check the specs for a common drive, you'll find that the power/heat is relatively small - far less than a night-light.  So the only legitimate reason is noise, IMO.  But then, I've already mentioned that my opinion is rather extreme, and not shared by all. :D
