**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sat Aug 16 02:59:56 2008 Aug 16 10:00:17 Hello all, I have just configured the NSLU after I received it recently. I also have a new external hard drive. Do I need to format it or such before installing SlugOS? **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sat Aug 16 12:47:49 2008 **** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sat Aug 16 12:48:14 2008 Aug 16 23:08:00 howdy all, I've got a question about udev on slugOS Aug 16 23:08:04 just installed to the nslu2's internal flash, and installed mdadm Aug 16 23:08:12 now I've got two usb disks attached in a raid 1, but it looks like they occasionally drop off and reattach Aug 16 23:08:19 not too bad of a problem, but now I have a device that was /dev/sdb2 connecting again as /dev/sdc2 Aug 16 23:08:30 it looks like there is no volid command to generate uuid info, and there is no udevinfo to get info about the disk to make my own udev rules Aug 16 23:08:39 does anyone have any ideas? Aug 16 23:09:11 am I asking slugos to do something it was not designed for? Might I be better served with a slug debian install? Aug 16 23:20:54 xian_: Yes, you are asking SlugOS to do something it was not designed to do in current releases. However, you might look at the blkid command to see if you can use that to accomplish your goals. Aug 16 23:21:18 thanks, looking into it now Aug 16 23:21:25 any other advice by chance? Aug 16 23:22:09 if I just want to share out over nfs a raid 1 of usb disks, any recomendations? Aug 16 23:23:35 Nope. Others have been there; and there's only the blkid mechanism available -- it can be done. But you should also be aware that the NSLU2 is severely I/O bound, and RAID 1 will cut your write bandwidth by more than 50%, and it will be no faster (and probably slower) than a single disk on read. No memory, small CPU, and everything on USB... **** ENDING LOGGING AT Sun Aug 17 02:59:57 2008
