**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Oct 17 02:59:58 2010 Oct 17 03:38:22 I downloaded ubuntu-netbook-10.10-preinstalled-netbook-armel+omap.img.gz, zcatted it to a microSD, and attempted to boot it on my BeagleBoard-xM. It booted to the point where it said "Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel." and then nothing else happened. The DVI monitor did not get a signal. Any suggestions? Oct 17 05:21:25 pdc, On which output did you get the Uncompressing... message? Oct 17 05:25:44 Anyway, the point of the question was that the base image attempts to uncompress and occupy the entirety of the MMC storage on first boot: As microSD tends to be slow (at least mine are *very* slow), I wonder if this isn't just taking much longer than expected. Oct 17 05:26:22 I've not tried, but I understand some folks have tried to get serial console working, so I can imagine some messages going to serial console, and then the uncompress message failing to go to DVI for some reason. Oct 17 05:26:38 (but I'm just speculating, and hoping someone who actually has an XM can comment on their experience) Oct 17 09:22:22 sakoman: Ah found these u-bbot env file patches for u-boot again, they were simply in my PPA! sending them to you now Oct 17 10:52:23 lool, hmm, could it be that your libnnss-ldap patch was never applied in debian and soemone moreged it into ubuntu without the gnueabi fix ? Oct 17 10:52:45 (looks serious enough to justify an sru to me) Oct 17 12:49:12 ogra_ac: Do you intend to merge this older x-loader changes of mine in natty? Oct 17 12:52:24 ogra_ac: libnss-ldap > indeed, it seems this was dropped by Chuck for some reason Oct 17 12:53:35 ogra_ac: Actually, I still see the patch in debian/patches/60_fix-glibc-test-for-armel-gnueabi.patch Oct 17 12:53:59 but not applied anymore Oct 17 13:07:56 lool, yeah, after UDS i'll care for x-loader unless rsalveti does it earlier Oct 17 13:08:09 and indeed the plan is to get your changes back in Oct 17 13:20:41 ogra_ac: I've pushed a fixed libnss-ldap; do you have a way to test it? Oct 17 13:25:08 lool, not really, i have an LTSP arm spec though so i will be able during implementing that Oct 17 13:25:39 * ogra_ac doesnt currently have any LDAP server around Oct 17 13:33:32 hi all Oct 17 13:34:50 anyone tried installing on a beagleboard c3? Oct 17 13:35:36 it boots but it doesn't seem to show any screen at all Oct 18 02:05:17 When I create an ext3 partition, the file system is "Unknown" and I can't mount the volume. Any ideas? Oct 18 02:07:18 I seem to remember there being some issue with checksums and signed vs. unsigned interpretations of some C. Oct 18 02:07:41 My recommendations would be to try another filesystem *OR* to make sure the filesystem was created the same place it was checked. Oct 18 02:08:38 https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/22568/ seems to be the relevant issue Oct 18 02:12:40 pdc, Just to make sure, where/how did you create the ext3 partition? Oct 18 02:24:40 persia: world changed, i got 200kBps on my pandaboard from ports.ubuntu.com Oct 18 02:25:36 cooloney, Heh. Nice. Oct 18 02:27:26 persia: save my life, do you have any updates about the audio issue on pandaboard? Oct 18 02:28:11 My understanding is that just about everything was committed, but there was some uncertainty about the config file that needed to go in alsa-utils, because it worked on one platform and not another. Oct 18 02:28:34 I'd recommend enabling -proposed, getting the new kernel, alsa-lib, and alsa-utils from there, and testing. Ought work. Oct 18 02:31:53 persia: great, i am upgrading to the latest kernel and alsa-lib and alsa-utils from -proposed Oct 18 02:38:33 persia, that patchset you just ref'd has it been pushed to kernel yet? Oct 18 02:42:20 Neko, The place I found it suggested it had been applied in Ubuntu kernels. I don't know more about it. Oct 18 02:42:35 I somehow remember it being but Oct 18 02:42:44 I would have thought it'd have hit mainline ages ago Oct 18 02:43:05 May well have done so. Still the only thing I know that would make ext3 bail. Oct 18 02:44:39 but only really if you are using an ext3 filesystem generated on some other platform and then drop it on ARM Oct 18 02:44:43 doesn't ext4 handle it properly Oct 18 02:44:59 (we use ext4 exclusively here... no point using ext3 it's slow as fuck) Oct 18 02:50:38 !ohmy | Neko Oct 18 02:50:39 Neko: Please remember that all Ubuntu IRC channels share the same attitude of providing friendly and polite interaction with all users of all ages and cultures. Basically, this means no foul language and no abuse towards others. Oct 18 02:51:07 But I think it is only ext3: I think ext4 has the workaround (I hesitate to call it "properly", as I agree that God and K&R intended char to be signed) Oct 18 02:54:08 I discovered that I can create good ext3 partitions on a microSD when it's plugged into an SD adapter, but when it's plugged into a USB adapter, it creates an "Unknown" partition and lots of ugly error messages show up in dmesg. Oct 18 02:56:55 From the same host? Oct 18 02:57:45 persia, I'm not sure what you mean. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Oct 18 02:59:57 2010
