**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Wed Aug 11 02:59:57 2010 Aug 11 03:20:03 hey guys gotta question.....why does my preware on my phone have little "x" next to everything Aug 11 03:20:18 when i try to download i always get a ipkg log error Aug 11 03:20:23 something about hunks failing Aug 11 03:20:55 every patch has a picture of the patch and a little x next to it Aug 11 03:24:27 rwhitby: test redmine setup with git integration and code syntax highlighting with ultraviolet http://redmine.silentbluesystems.com/projects/test Aug 11 03:24:34 only thing it does not have is grack Aug 11 03:24:44 how have you guys been... Aug 11 03:24:52 hey guys gotta question.....why does my preware on my phone have little "x" next to everything [20:20] when i try to download i always get a ipkg log error [20:20] something about hunks failing [20:21] every patch has a picture of the patch and a little x next to it Aug 11 03:25:27 wcm7823: we all saw that, no need to spam/repaste it. Aug 11 03:25:40 sorry Aug 11 03:25:50 wcm7823: my suggestion would be to update your feeds if you haven't tried that Aug 11 03:26:32 ok ill try that right now Aug 11 03:29:36 tried to update my feeds everything still has the little next to it Aug 11 03:29:49 im running version 1.4.1.1 on my phone Aug 11 03:30:31 are the patches showing as installed in preware? Aug 11 03:31:19 wcm7823: ^^ Aug 11 03:31:30 or are these for new patches you are trying to install Aug 11 03:33:17 these are new patches im trying to install Aug 11 03:34:20 for instance im trying to install the 4x4 icons v5 and it shows the gray up arrow icon with a little x to the bottom right of the icon and when i try to install it i get an ipkg log error Aug 11 03:34:44 should i just delete preware and start all over Aug 11 03:35:39 no Aug 11 03:35:50 hang on, I am on the phone, once I get off I will help ya out Aug 11 03:36:11 cools thanks Aug 11 03:37:12 do you have any other patches that change the icons? Aug 11 03:37:27 if so, you will need to remove those patches first Aug 11 03:37:40 this may also include patches that affect the launcher in other ways Aug 11 03:37:48 let me look Aug 11 03:38:01 but definitely any patches that change the icons, like 5x4 or 5x5 patches Aug 11 03:38:03 but that little x is on every patch Aug 11 03:38:27 which icon does it show that x for? Aug 11 03:38:43 hiyo Aug 11 03:39:07 seriously every patch under available packages Aug 11 03:39:24 some have a 2 bandaid x but the rest show some kind of icon with a little x Aug 11 03:40:06 I understand that it is on every patch, but where at? Aug 11 03:40:16 the icon in the list of patches? or when you click on a patch or what? Aug 11 03:40:21 wanted to jump on here and ask a question, is that cool? Aug 11 03:40:44 darius_: go ahead and ask, if someone know's I'm sure they'll help Aug 11 03:40:44 indeed, in fact you don't need to ask to ask a question, just ask it Aug 11 03:41:17 ok if i go into avaible packages,, patch, all, and the x is on the little icons set off the left Aug 11 03:41:32 wcm7823: I see what you are talking about now, that little x is normal and is just part of the icon Aug 11 03:42:04 what about the bigger bandaid looking x's Aug 11 03:42:09 the reason you are getting a hunks failed message is because the file that the patch you are trying to install is already modified in the areas that that patch modifies and therefore it cannot install Aug 11 03:42:18 some patches don't work with other patches Aug 11 03:42:28 ok i gotcha Aug 11 03:42:42 so if you have two patches that touch the same part of the same file, you can't have them both, for example the 5x5 icon patch and the 4x4 Aug 11 03:42:59 so would it help just to unistall all my patches and start the way i want to know Aug 11 03:43:00 now Aug 11 03:43:07 the bigger bandaid looking X is just a general patch icon for the categories of patches that don't have a specific icon Aug 11 03:43:12 ok Aug 11 03:43:39 you could do that, EPR will remove all of your patches, but you could also just look through your list of patches and find any that change launcher icons Aug 11 03:43:53 then remove that patch and install the 4x4 one Aug 11 03:44:03 do you have the stock 3x3 icons in your launcher? Aug 11 03:44:20 no i have a 5x4 patch installed Aug 11 03:44:33 ok, if you remove that 5x4 patch then the 4x4 should install Aug 11 03:44:33 thx, i encounterd a very strange bug. when updateing preware to the most recent version and installing it with preware, it exited as normal. The next time I launched the app, it started updating packages, but when it finished with that, the screen went green, then the pixels started disipating, all matrix like. the phone then rebooted, and when it came back up, preware was gone. I have just reinstalled preware and it i Aug 11 03:44:53 sorry for spelling, tryed typing quick Aug 11 03:45:01 er tried =p Aug 11 03:45:07 when i was first learning about preware i think i downloaded one of everything so now i know which ones i want Aug 11 03:45:19 are you running any custom kernels? and if so, which one? Aug 11 03:45:25 i am not Aug 11 03:45:45 the level of intelligence in these type of forums, never fails to impress me thanks +cryptk Aug 11 03:46:10 wcm7823: if you want to have a "clean slate" now that you know what you want you can install the Emergency Patch Recovery and then install the Emergency File Verification Aug 11 03:46:22 the EPR will remove all patches, the EFV will make sure all files are stock Aug 11 03:46:48 as long as the EFV comes back clean after the EPR is done then you are at a clean slate as far as patches are concerned, then you can choose the patches you want Aug 11 03:47:05 but if you merely want the 4x4 (which is the one I use btw) just remove the 5x4 and install the 4x4 Aug 11 03:47:05 will that uninstall preware? Aug 11 03:47:08 no Aug 11 03:47:14 preware is not a patch Aug 11 03:47:22 ok thanks Aug 11 03:47:43 preware is an application, patches modify the stock files on the phone to change looks or functionality in some way Aug 11 03:47:57 so… im a patch? Aug 11 03:48:03 :p Aug 11 03:48:06 on a side note, patches that are installed through preware do not need to be uninstalled prior to an OTA Aug 11 03:48:25 halfhalo: you would be a hacker, which is the personification of a patch Aug 11 03:48:26 lol Aug 11 03:49:25 darius_: I have only seen that happen before with some testing feed kernels (actually they weren't even in the testing feed yet, and had to be modified some before they went in the testing feed because of that Aug 11 03:49:46 we treat our phones like guinea pigs before things even make it in the testing feed, lol Aug 11 03:50:00 This is why i just do mojo stuff Aug 11 03:50:09 no having to mess with crazy things Aug 11 03:50:19 the crazy things are the most interesting Aug 11 03:50:28 halfhalo: remind me to look at the redmine stuff after this 1.4.5 thing is over Aug 11 03:50:35 kk Aug 11 03:51:34 sorry if anyone responded, i think i got dc'd Aug 11 03:51:53 you did, and I had, lemme copy paste for ya Aug 11 03:51:59 thx Aug 11 03:52:03 darius_: I have only seen that happen before with some testing feed kernels (actually they weren't even in the testing feed yet, and had to be modified some before they went in the testing feed because of that Aug 11 03:52:12 but, lets see if we can figure out what is going on Aug 11 03:52:28 cool Aug 11 03:52:58 thx Aug 11 03:53:38 I saw that you said that when your phone came back up preware was missing right? Aug 11 03:53:47 yup Aug 11 03:54:15 ok, you reinstalled preware, what then? Aug 11 03:54:39 everything in preware sems fine, but the previosly installed patches are no longer registered Aug 11 03:55:26 ok, that is an easy fix Aug 11 03:55:42 ERU Aug 11 03:55:49 Emergency Reconstruction Utility Aug 11 03:56:03 you can find it in preware in the sme place as EPR and EFV and all of the other utilities Aug 11 03:56:18 or just type in emergency at the main preware scene and press enter, then tap it from the list Aug 11 04:00:54 ok, got dc'd again, dl'd real irc client Aug 11 04:01:04 the website one was gone Aug 11 04:01:11 this is darius btw Aug 11 04:01:25 yeah, the freenode web chat thing disconnects all the time, lol Aug 11 04:01:35 did you see what I said about the ERU? Aug 11 04:02:00 yup, installing now Aug 11 04:02:39 so after installed, do i just restart preware? Aug 11 04:02:44 not sure off the top of my head if you need to restart preware after ERU or not... but if you don't see things showing as being installed after running it, restart preware and update feeds Aug 11 04:03:50 excellent, worked great. thanks a bunch Aug 11 04:04:02 did have to restart preware Aug 11 04:04:14 the green screen thing freaked me out when it happened Aug 11 04:04:34 as one may imagine Aug 11 04:04:46 yeah, I have only seen it when I was testing an alpha version of a Warthog Kernel... luckily that one didn't make it into the testing feed, lol Aug 11 04:04:54 until it was tweaked a bit more at least Aug 11 04:05:20 yeah, i don't feel competent enough to play around with the kernels Aug 11 04:05:35 figure i'll leave that au' natural Aug 11 04:05:56 if you don't have the kernel testing feed installed then the only one you have access to is the stable release of the UberKernel, which is an excellent kernel Aug 11 04:06:07 I would highly recommend UberKernel and Govnah Aug 11 04:06:28 indeed? Aug 11 04:07:25 yep, UberKernel is the result of the testing done with all of the other kernels... new things are tried and tested in the other kernels, safe setups are determined, then those setups filter their way into UberKernel Aug 11 04:07:38 so by the time it makes it in UK, they are well tested Aug 11 04:08:29 then with Govnah it is pretty trivial to overclock... but bear in mind that kernel swaps and overclocking does void your warranty Aug 11 04:08:34 how easy is it to switch back if UK turns out to be incompatible in some way to a future webos update? Aug 11 04:08:37 it is one of the few homebrew things that does Aug 11 04:09:00 cryptk: how much of a real issue is that? Aug 11 04:09:01 very easy, but the same technology that makes patches safe across updates is used in the kernels as well Aug 11 04:09:31 voiding your warranty, that is, wouldn't doctoring/removing the kernel make it impossible to tell? Aug 11 04:09:39 (assuming no actual hardware damage) Aug 11 04:09:47 summatusmentis: the warranty issue? depends... if you warranty your phone because you burnt out the processor by running it at 1.2GHz with the SR71 kernel, then that would be fraud Aug 11 04:10:02 right, and clearly traceable Aug 11 04:10:02 and we do not condone warrantying phones that were damaged by overclocking Aug 11 04:10:10 nice, though voiding my warranty doesn't sit well with me, since this is my second phone and i am starting to have the same issues with the headphone jack as i did with my first Aug 11 04:10:26 cryptk: no, I'm not advocating fraud Aug 11 04:10:47 if you have a kernel installed and you warranty it for a bad slider or button or something, that is fine, no problems there, but if you broke it by overheating the thing by charging it while overclocked and tethering, that is a big no no Aug 11 04:10:56 sure Aug 11 04:11:00 that makes sense Aug 11 04:11:07 but the newer kernels are smart and will only run at the stock 500MHz while charging Aug 11 04:11:12 the report that palm gets from your phone every day identifies which kernel you are running Aug 11 04:11:20 they definitely know Aug 11 04:11:33 oh, I did not know there was a report every day Aug 11 04:11:42 I don't have a device, so this is all conjecture Aug 11 04:11:58 I don't think they would make a fuss about it if the warranty claim is for something unrelated, but if it is for something that could have been caused by the kernel they reserve the right to not cover it Aug 11 04:12:16 of course Aug 11 04:12:47 well i've run into sprint being nazi's about getting phones replaced, one time i had to take my phone in to get it replaced for some stupid reason (not my pre on this occasion) and the took a slightly less gold coloring in a component to claim it was water damage and that i'd have to go through my extended warrenty to replace the phone. Aug 11 04:13:28 they have water sensors in the phones (pretty much all cell phones do) they know if it gets wet Aug 11 04:13:53 if you ever go into a (gasp...) apple store and watch when someone brings in an iPhone, you know what the first thing they do is? Aug 11 04:14:00 i know right, i tried arguing with them that there was no water damage, and they just wouldn't listen Aug 11 04:14:07 shine a light down the headphone jack and look in it... Aug 11 04:14:13 there is a sensor in there on the iphones... Aug 11 04:14:29 two of them in a pre Aug 11 04:14:33 they are little stickers that change color when they get wet Aug 11 04:14:47 yeah, I think one under the battery and one inside the case Aug 11 04:14:52 IIRC Aug 11 04:15:02 that's pretty nifty Aug 11 04:15:09 I took apart an old flip phone a few weeks ago and found 6 of them, lol Aug 11 04:15:45 took apart a friends first gen storm after he got it wet to dry it out and see if I could get it working again (I did, the phone lived) there were 3 or 4 in there, all of them bright red Aug 11 04:15:52 I'll be picking up a Pre in october, probably Aug 11 04:15:57 btw, anyone know of anyway to fix the issues with the headphone jack misreporting that it has something plugged in? Aug 11 04:16:14 if you ever get a phone wet and it stops working btw, first things first, do NOT try and turn it on Aug 11 04:16:21 cryptk: one on the comms board, one on the omap board near the usb port Aug 11 04:16:50 pull the battery out, let it sit for a few days to dry out, wait until you cannot see any moisture in/on the phone, including around the edges of the display Aug 11 04:17:11 then put the battery back and see if it will turn on... if it doesn't about half the time you can fix it by replacing the battery Aug 11 04:17:13 also helps to put it in a bag of rice, or silica gell packages Aug 11 04:17:14 put it in dry rice Aug 11 04:17:22 that will do it too Aug 11 04:17:28 silica gel works great also Aug 11 04:17:33 b3ll: 'ello :) Aug 11 04:17:47 but rarely do people have access to a decent amount of silica gel since it is a poison Aug 11 04:18:31 I have also heard of putting uncooked rice or salt in a tupperware container and putting the phone in on top of it (not burying it though) and putting the lid on Aug 11 04:18:39 i used to save it from all the packaging, but then figured that it's not worth it, plus, don't know how long they'd remain effective after being exposed to ambient atmo Aug 11 04:18:49 supposedly that absorbes the moisture and helps dry it out faster, never tried that one though Aug 11 04:19:10 if you live in a humid environment a few days Aug 11 04:19:20 but you can dry it out and re-use it Aug 11 04:19:35 yeah, florida Aug 11 04:21:32 btw, those kernel's you spoke of, how are they on battery life? Aug 11 04:21:47 or that kernel i should say Aug 11 04:22:31 well, depends on how you use it Aug 11 04:22:39 many of them can save battery life Aug 11 04:23:02 I know Warthog runs less voltage to the processor than the stock Palm kernel does so it is better on battery life Aug 11 04:23:27 I think I remember jhojho telling be that he is running 720MHz on Warthog at the same voltage as 500MHz in the stock kernel Aug 11 04:23:37 not sure of the voltage changes in UberKernel though Aug 11 04:24:06 Uber is same as stock for stock frequencies Aug 11 04:24:08 that seems intriguing Aug 11 04:24:52 ok, so UK will have no battery savings if run at the stock frequencies, but you can have UK underclock your phone down to 250MHz while the screen is off which will save battery life Aug 11 04:25:04 note that not all phones can handle running that slow and they will hang Aug 11 04:25:06 not necessarily Aug 11 04:25:07 but it is recoverable Aug 11 04:25:22 underclocking may actually decrease battery life depending on your usage patterns Aug 11 04:25:22 as in restart? Aug 11 04:25:25 should have said it has the potential to save battery life Aug 11 04:25:41 and overclocking can sometimes increase your battery life, again depending on your usage patterns Aug 11 04:26:07 it will freeze some phones, but you can reboot the phone and change it so ti doesn't underclock anymore if you find you have a "weak" pre Aug 11 04:26:11 * cryptk has a weak pre Aug 11 04:26:16 as it stands, my usage is phone is in pocket waiting until i play a game or send/recieve a text Aug 11 04:26:31 rwhitby: very true, underclocking and overclocking both have the potential to save battery life, YMMV Aug 11 04:27:11 if your phone spends most of it's time sitting idle in your pocket you do stand to save battery by underclocking, but you never know for sure until you try it Aug 11 04:27:49 does govnah track battery info? Aug 11 04:28:12 govnah will tell you current flow to/from the battery yes Aug 11 04:28:38 i mean, does govnah or anything else run a logger to track battery usage metrics? Aug 11 04:28:50 yes Aug 11 04:29:02 Govnah does as well as Battery Monitor Aug 11 04:29:11 but neither will save the data after you close the app Aug 11 04:29:28 ahha, i see Aug 11 04:29:39 there's nothing that's been said about new hardware, correct? Aug 11 04:29:51 true, nothing more than speculation Aug 11 04:29:58 strange that they don't have a bg service to log that info, always wondered that about battery monitor Aug 11 04:30:00 ok Aug 11 04:30:12 except for the press releases where HP execs say "we want tablets and netbooks and toasters" Aug 11 04:30:18 right right Aug 11 04:30:36 I just don't want to buy a pre in a couple months, then have something new come out 3 months later Aug 11 04:30:52 there are palm logs on your phone that monitor that, I'm not sure where they are located at off hand though, but /var/log would be a likely place to look Aug 11 04:31:33 cryptk: actually, a phone idle in the pocket could go either way for underclocking. just depends how often background tasks (like checking email) are happening Aug 11 04:31:40 If I were you and I didn't have a device yet, I would hold off for a few months, I would speculate (purely my guess mind you) that something new will be out within 6 months or so Aug 11 04:31:59 rwhitby: hence me saying you never know until you try it Aug 11 04:32:24 granted I know nothing mroe than anyone else when it comes to new hardware, I just think that would be enough time for HP to get something rolling Aug 11 04:32:34 cryptk: I've held out because I'm on SERO. Apparently in October, SERO will be able to get newer phones. I'm gonna keep waiting until October, at the very least Aug 11 04:32:50 rahul sood said something about september on the webOSradio podcast Aug 11 04:32:51 SERO is pure win Aug 11 04:33:06 I must have missed that one Aug 11 04:33:18 Ah, yeah I had sero. Was awesome, but i ended up ditching it for the pre Aug 11 04:33:31 "new sero" isn't that great anyhow Aug 11 04:33:36 var/log doesn't seem to have any battery info as far as i can tell, oh well Aug 11 04:33:37 bsiegel: the cost of upgrading was hard to justify to a poor college student Aug 11 04:33:49 rwhitby: which one? Aug 11 04:34:05 webOSradio #10 Aug 11 04:34:07 summatusmentis: yes, I also recently stopped being a poor college student, so it seemed valid :p Aug 11 04:34:20 oh, the one that mentions "rahul" :) Aug 11 04:34:57 bsiegel: if my current play goes through, I'm never gonna stop being a poor college student :P Aug 11 04:35:40 I dropped SERO for Pre and been paying about $20 more ever since Aug 11 04:36:28 I made up for it by having a 25% discount thru my credit union, before sprint standardized them all down to 10% Aug 11 04:36:44 didn't totally make up for it, but it helps a lot Aug 11 04:37:06 yeah I have like a 27% discount Aug 11 04:37:12 even without any discount sprint still has pretty much the cheapest smartphone plans Aug 11 04:37:38 does sprint have the pre plus yet? Aug 11 04:37:50 no Aug 11 04:37:50 i can't remember Aug 11 04:37:53 doh Aug 11 04:37:55 you can make one however Aug 11 04:38:05 o rly? Aug 11 04:38:07 if you are willing to take a phone apart and have some know how Aug 11 04:38:21 it is not a process for beginners however, lol Aug 11 04:38:26 does it require solder? Aug 11 04:38:28 if you do, use an AT&T GSM Pre Plus and then send the GSM comms board to me. Aug 11 04:38:37 rwhitby: do you have any sense of the time point in that podcast it says that? Aug 11 04:38:57 nope Aug 11 04:39:03 tylerc_: it does not Aug 11 04:39:05 AT&T Pre+'s can't be gotten on ebay with bad ESNs Aug 11 04:40:04 what makes a bad esn? sounds stolen to me Aug 11 04:40:53 tylerc_: I'm not entirely sure, to be honest Aug 11 04:40:55 a bad esn is a phone serial that is either already attached to an account or has been reported as lost/stolen Aug 11 04:41:18 so then, shady? Aug 11 04:41:26 could be Aug 11 04:41:56 or could be someone lost their phone, reported it lost, ATT marked the ESN and replaced the phone, then the person found it and sold it Aug 11 04:42:32 so still kinda shady Aug 11 04:43:04 potentially yes Aug 11 04:43:44 what is the process for making your own pre+ on sprint, take a gsm phone and unplug it's radio and plug in a sprint pre- one on? Aug 11 04:44:06 from what I can tell, yes Aug 11 04:44:11 on a base level Aug 11 04:44:28 that is what you do on the hardware level Aug 11 04:44:29 plus some extra software hackery i assume Aug 11 04:44:34 there are some software changes as well Aug 11 04:44:48 look on the webos internals wiki for info on Tokens Aug 11 04:45:03 there are also tutorials on precentral Aug 11 04:45:27 you need to have the tokens for the comms board from the sprint phone and the tokens for the omap from the donor pre plus Aug 11 04:45:37 there are tuts on precentral as summatusmentis said Aug 11 04:47:20 that's pretty cool Aug 11 04:49:47 well, time to do a bit of work, thx all for the info, esp cryptik, gnight all Aug 11 04:50:39 np Aug 11 05:13:37 rwhitby, got the back end scripts to push a rsync backup done. Pretty easy actually. You mentioned that you may also have some back-end code. I may want to take a look at the key exchange setup you did. I didn't need anything though because I just used rsyncd. Aug 11 05:13:55 rwhitby, Works like a champ as long as rsyncd is running on the server. Aug 11 05:14:17 Mark_M: I hadn't done any code yet, just a skeleton for the service. See SkyNet on git.webos-internals.org Aug 11 05:15:34 rwhitby, will do. Never wrote scripts for the BusyBox shell before so it took a bit to get the script right from bash. Aug 11 05:15:46 Mark_M: I've been waiting for someone to do the front-end. We already know how to associate filetypes with apps. We still need to work out how to email attachments. Aug 11 05:16:10 Mark_M: src/luna_methods.c is where the C code to call what is required goes. Aug 11 05:16:33 oohhh…. I can make a redmine plugin… :p Aug 11 05:16:51 rwhitby, I've thought of a layout for the front-end and hopefully I can start laying it out in Ares this week. Aug 11 05:19:10 rwhitby, I take it I can securely install the rsync account password in my app. I've never tried that yet. Aug 11 05:20:24 rwhitby, I have two options to do the backup: with an account (secure) without an account (insecure). I plan to support them both. If a user does not enter a user ID and password it will attempt an unsecure backup. Aug 11 06:58:48 ok Aug 11 06:58:51 doing it Aug 11 06:59:09 jhoweb: kind of. but nothing of importance Aug 11 07:01:30 bhuey: why would you need to EPR? Aug 11 07:01:58 latest wirc is has move out of testing feed now that 1.4.5 is out Aug 11 07:02:02 fyi Aug 11 07:02:15 enjoy Aug 11 07:02:27 cryptk: what's the best way of removing all of those patches then ? Aug 11 07:02:44 rwhitby: hi Aug 11 07:02:57 wirc is awesome Aug 11 07:03:01 why do you need to remove your patches? Aug 11 07:04:07 because of the big update Aug 11 07:04:17 you don't need to remove patches for OTA updates anymore Aug 11 07:04:22 haven't needed to for a while Aug 11 07:04:25 that is what AUPT is for Aug 11 07:04:38 the only thing you need to remove before updating are themes Aug 11 07:04:49 well, I just ran it Aug 11 07:05:02 welp, have fun reinstalling all of your patches Aug 11 07:05:08 but in the future, there is no need Aug 11 07:05:25 shouldn't be a problem since I saved the list Aug 11 07:05:27 if you have the saved package list updated you can use it to reinstall all of your patches Aug 11 07:05:28 yep Aug 11 07:07:43 didn't remove all of the patches for some reason Aug 11 07:08:28 which ones did it not remove? Aug 11 07:08:42 applications, uberkernel Aug 11 07:08:56 uberkernel is not a patch Aug 11 07:08:58 looking Aug 11 07:09:04 and what applications patch? Aug 11 07:09:17 no just applications Aug 11 07:09:22 it's not a patch Aug 11 07:09:27 I have to look through this more Aug 11 07:09:28 well, those aren't patches so EPR won't remove them Aug 11 07:09:40 there is no reason to remove any applications homebrew or not ebfore an update Aug 11 07:09:49 yeah, I know Aug 11 07:09:53 kernel definitely Aug 11 07:09:57 nope Aug 11 07:09:59 no need Aug 11 07:10:08 kernel uses the same AUPT tech that the patches do Aug 11 07:10:12 I don't want to brick this thing Aug 11 07:10:14 no need to remove anything except for themes Aug 11 07:10:17 it won't Aug 11 07:10:18 ok Aug 11 07:10:29 I'll reinstall it later, it's removing now anyways Aug 11 07:10:55 overclock kernels have been good for me Aug 11 07:10:55 I mean if you want to be super safe it won't hurt, but updating with patches apps and kernels installed is fine Aug 11 07:11:03 yep, I love them Aug 11 07:11:13 bhuey: either the kernel is unchanged, or palm updates it. either way, a custom kernel either works or is overwritten. Aug 11 07:11:14 * cryptk uses Warthog Aug 11 07:11:22 it's like having a new device, albeit, with crappy amount of storage Aug 11 07:11:45 rwhitby: as a side note, my customized bootie images survived the OTA Aug 11 07:11:59 they also survive a doctor amazingly enough Aug 11 07:12:14 * bhuey wishes Palm would get new freak'n hardware out Aug 11 07:12:17 OTA is expected, doctor is not. Aug 11 07:12:27 can't believe that hardware VP left Aug 11 07:12:39 yep, them surviving the doc surprises me Aug 11 07:13:06 if flash storage was faster, it would help the Pre a lot Aug 11 07:13:07 they even survived last resort when I trashed the bootloader Aug 11 07:13:10 that I was amazed at Aug 11 07:14:03 cryptk: I also have the messaging plugin Aug 11 07:14:04 remove it ? Aug 11 07:14:15 which messaging plugin? Aug 11 07:14:22 yeah, remove that. unknown what that will do. Aug 11 07:14:24 the one from the forums Aug 11 07:14:39 yeah, if it is a patch not installed by preware it does not have AUPT Aug 11 07:14:44 ok Aug 11 07:18:07 y hello thar Aug 11 07:18:17 for those that care/would like to help: beta VisualBoyAdvance (vba) release for 1.4.5 compat: http://wdtz.org/vba_1.2.0.ipk . Short version of changelog includes 1.4.5 compat, faster, bug fixes, portrait rom selector, gesture to go back to rom selector while playing. It also stores saves with the app due to 1.4.5 bug, but will migrate existing saves to the new location. Either way might want to back up your saves first (if applicible). Aug 11 07:18:43 applicable* Aug 11 07:18:44 sleepy time for me, pm me if you have any questions. I of course very much appreciate the time of anyone who looks at it :) Aug 11 07:19:01 snang: ty :[ Aug 11 07:19:04 yay Aug 11 07:19:05 <3 Aug 11 07:19:52 i'd push to testing feed but I don't feel like figuring out how to make it package a pdk app right now, been a long day :) Aug 11 07:20:00 I wish all my awesome patch ideas on precentral forums didn't go ignored. Aug 11 07:20:03 Makes me a sad panda. Aug 11 07:21:14 why not write the patches yourself? Aug 11 07:21:35 Too busy...and don't know the os well enough. :\ Aug 11 07:21:43 When I' Aug 11 07:21:44 where is the list of your ideas at? Aug 11 07:21:44 oops. Aug 11 07:21:55 It's just in random spots on precentral path forums. Aug 11 07:22:06 it is all HTML, CSS and JavaScript, they are pretty easy to learn Aug 11 07:22:22 I do web dev, I know HTML and CSS...just not JS. Aug 11 07:22:36 It's also a bit more complex than that. :P Aug 11 07:22:42 JS is pretty easy Aug 11 07:22:53 actually, it isn't any more complex than that Aug 11 07:22:54 Had an idea for a key combo to manual lock the device. Like Orange+L to put the device in pin code lock. Aug 11 07:23:08 Would <3 that...and I'm sure I'm not alone. Aug 11 07:23:24 just set the pin lock to trigger when the screen turns off... Aug 11 07:23:27 then tap the power button Aug 11 07:23:37 That = annoying. Aug 11 07:23:55 That's how it used to be and I disabled the option until Palm added the option to delay the pin code lock. Aug 11 07:26:25 j/w do we have any numbers on preware users vs total pre users? Aug 11 07:28:17 snang: that can be done with javascript though Aug 11 07:28:56 you use the mojo framework with javascript to lock the screen, which file it would go in though I am not sure off hand Aug 11 07:29:12 cryptk: I'd assume it would be a fairly easy patch, just not sure where to start or who to prod to help. Aug 11 07:30:05 well, first would be to check the docs on the palm developer site to find the mojo call to lock the screen Aug 11 07:30:32 then you would have to find the file to modify, you may be able to place it in the file that controls the quick launch bar Aug 11 07:30:55 then write up a little javascript to listen for the desired key combo and fire off the mojo call Aug 11 07:31:28 In theory, all of that makes perfect sense in my head, honestly. Aug 11 07:31:53 I've just not dove into webOS dev yet. Have a book and everything, messed with Ares a bit...just haven't devoted time to it. :\ Aug 11 07:32:07 * snang shrugs Aug 11 07:34:43 ares is great for apps, and it would help you learn the mojo framework (which just lets you access different things via JavaScript), but you can't really make a patch with ares Aug 11 07:34:48 but it would be a great starting point Aug 11 07:35:56 yoppo? Aug 11 07:45:30 rwhitby: what do you think about moving navit, speechd and locale out of testing? Aug 11 07:46:12 speechd always fails to install for me Aug 11 07:46:20 when i try to install navit Aug 11 07:46:31 yes well, you always fail to install for speechd Aug 11 07:46:50 Burn. Aug 11 07:47:04 hmm? Aug 11 07:47:21 swisstomcat: what do you mean by "fail"? Aug 11 07:47:35 Not succeeding. Aug 11 07:47:45 let me get the error message Aug 11 07:48:15 something like this? http://forums.precentral.net/webos-internals/254622-navit-3d-car-navigation-system-8.html Aug 11 07:50:20 My ear itches. Aug 11 07:51:01 it seems like, noradtux Aug 11 07:51:59 so it's something with the testing feed url being incorrect? Aug 11 07:52:17 do you have the testing-feeds for -armv7 _and_ -all active? Aug 11 07:52:26 probably not Aug 11 07:52:31 let me check Aug 11 07:53:29 probably only for armv7 Aug 11 07:53:58 did anyone leave sconix's 1.4.1.1 device menu patch installed when they updating to 1.4.5? I did and I'm not able to update or remove it. Does anyone have any advice? Updating patches one by one is not fun. Aug 11 07:54:45 gollyzila|comp: probably one of those patches that are not exactly OTA-safe Aug 11 07:54:52 gollyzila|comp: probably having an issue because of other top menu patches Aug 11 07:55:05 noradtux|work: that patch is OTA safe Aug 11 07:55:14 i've added all and i'll try again, thanks for the pointer Aug 11 07:55:18 gollyzila|comp: do you have any other top menu patches installed? Aug 11 07:55:42 try removing other top bar patches and see if it installs then, probably just a case of patches needing to be installed in a particular order Aug 11 07:55:56 cryptk: Yes but I don't think I've updated them yet Aug 11 07:56:02 okay, ill try that Aug 11 07:56:28 cryptk: ok, I'll stop guessing ;) Aug 11 07:56:32 gollyzila|comp: try removing them, not just updating Aug 11 07:56:50 the only patches that are not OTA safe are the ones specifically identified and any patches not installed via preware Aug 11 07:57:40 cryptk: I uninstalled all the special patches that were deemed OTA-incompatible Aug 11 07:58:21 good stuff Aug 11 07:58:22 I have the device menu today menu patches installed aswell, should i remove those too? Aug 11 07:58:56 hi guys I was wondering if anyone doctored to 1.3.5 to install flash Aug 11 07:58:57 yep, try removing that one and then try updating the sconix device menu Aug 11 08:00:43 noradtux: yeah, it didn't see the locale depedency and failed because i didn't have the testing-all feed enabled Aug 11 08:01:11 swisstomcat: so it's working now? Aug 11 08:01:21 yes, thanks for your help Aug 11 08:04:29 I removed all top bar patches besides the framework patch and i still wasnt able to update the menu mod patch. Aug 11 08:05:03 I do remember i HAD the date as a carrier string but it doesnt show up as installed now Aug 11 08:05:58 gollyzila|comp: odd... I don't use the menu mod patch Aug 11 08:06:12 you don't have any other top bar patches? Aug 11 08:06:12 rwhitby do you think if I doctor to 1.3.5 I will be able to download flash? Aug 11 08:06:21 and is the framework patch updated? Aug 11 08:06:58 Why would flash be available for 1.3.5? That's news to me. Aug 11 08:07:32 it is on the main page of precentral Aug 11 08:07:40 no other top bar patches installed. and yes the framework is updated. I havent luna restarted yet since I've been updating my patches though. Do you think a luna restart could fix it? Aug 11 08:09:06 no... the file is already updated... Aug 11 08:09:07 hrm Aug 11 08:09:23 and you have no other patches that touch the top bar or the device menu? Aug 11 08:09:49 gabe2gg: that was just something old someone digged up. No flash yet ... Aug 11 08:10:32 correct. But like i said, i HAD a date as carrier patch installed before 1.4.5 and it shows as not installed. maybe that could be causing this Aug 11 08:10:43 ok thanks noradtuxwork Aug 11 08:13:35 that is odd Aug 11 08:13:46 try running the ERU and see if that makes it show as installed Aug 11 08:13:55 Emergency Reconstruction utility Aug 11 08:14:09 it isn't showing under available updates or under installed patches? Aug 11 08:14:20 check and see if it is showing under available patches Aug 11 08:14:58 i'll do that. It isnt showing as installed in available patches, but the patch is available Aug 11 08:18:00 okay so i installed ERU, do i try to update the menu mod patch? Aug 11 08:18:50 if you have any of the system menu patches showing as installed then you have to uninstall them Aug 11 08:18:58 otherwise you cannot update the framework patch Aug 11 08:19:08 which needs to be done first Aug 11 08:19:30 Yoppo: I uninstalled all the system menu patches besides the menu mod and the framework Aug 11 08:19:48 the menu mod needs to be uninstalled to Aug 11 08:19:58 it also prevents the update of the framework Aug 11 08:20:24 sorry, got disconnected Aug 11 08:20:36 the framework is already updated. I am not able to update the menu mod patch Aug 11 08:20:48 hrm... try removing the menu mod patch Aug 11 08:21:24 Nope, it did not remove Aug 11 08:21:59 hrm... I ran into this problem with a different patch (a browser one) there is some other patch that is touching the files that one is trying to update Aug 11 08:22:09 you just have to find what it is Aug 11 08:22:19 at least the log you gave it shows that its removing it but it still trying to install it and at least I don't see why it aborts the removing from that log Aug 11 08:22:42 I didn't get to see the log, I was d/c'd Aug 11 08:23:02 if you have the list of patches saved in Preware just run EPR cleaning all patches and then install all from the Preware installed list it does not take that long and at least fixes that situation Aug 11 08:23:20 indeed that would fix it Aug 11 08:23:30 http://forums.precentral.net/showthread.php?p=2600641&posted=1#post2600597 Aug 11 08:24:57 I'll do an EPR then. Im also having problems updating Command line too, so ill remove all the 1.4.1.1 system menu patches and command line from the saved package list Aug 11 08:26:46 ok, I gotta get food... bbiab Aug 11 08:27:36 i gotta get sleep soon Aug 11 08:28:40 you know what, I remember there was a patch that should not be installed while an EPR is performed. does anyone know which one that is? Aug 11 08:45:26 uh oh, after EPR and luna restart, the 4x4 icon launcher patch is still installed Aug 11 08:47:56 the EPR package is still showing as installed Aug 11 08:48:36 am i supposed to hard reboot? ill try that Aug 11 08:50:01 gollyzila|comp: maybe you should consider doctoring your device ... sounds like some kind of inconsistency has crept in Aug 11 08:50:37 noradtux|work: I would but the 1.4.5 doctor hasn't been released yet Aug 11 08:50:51 ah, sprint user ;) Aug 11 08:50:56 yup Aug 11 08:51:40 but I know that situation, O2 let us in the dark in the early days as well Aug 11 08:52:08 the carriers also release the doctors? Aug 11 08:53:28 not exactly, but I think palm doesn't release the doctors before the OTA update Aug 11 08:54:54 I love that jet blue flight attendant Aug 11 08:55:22 hopefully they release them tomorrow because the reboot didn't work. Well thank you everyone that assisted me. I'm off to bed. Good night, good morning, and good afternoon to everyone. Aug 11 09:06:11 drunknbass: can you change it so it doesn't change your name whenever your screensaver turns on? Do I need to do anything before the install? I'm going to do a preware update and save/restore, but I'm expecting everything to just work. Aug 11 14:07:36 did you look at the patches that are not OTA safe? Aug 11 14:16:09 swisstomcat: no, where do you check that? Aug 11 14:17:12 twitter.com/webosinternals has a link Aug 11 14:17:23 and other 1.4.5 tips Aug 11 14:18:33 hrm, where is this link? Aug 11 14:18:57 Remember that any and all themes must be removed before any OTA update. Themes do not use AUPT, so are not safe to leave on the device. Aug 11 14:18:59 http://patches.webos-internals.org/ seems to be little more than a list of patches Aug 11 14:19:03 http://forums.precentral.net/2539645-post1.html is the list of patches to remove before an OTA update. All other Preware patches can stay. Aug 11 14:19:24 check the tweets from 23hours ago Aug 11 14:19:25 that link doesn't seem to work Aug 11 14:19:39 hold on Aug 11 14:19:52 sorry Aug 11 14:20:00 http://forums.precentral.net/2539645-post1.html Aug 11 14:21:26 k, my patches seem ok Aug 11 14:22:08 I'm not afraid to doctor... I'd just like to avoid it for a change. :) Aug 11 14:22:29 I used to mount /opt/ in a very unusual way and that would kill every OTAu Aug 11 14:22:35 I think I"m kindof normal now Aug 11 14:22:50 no other special stuff? Aug 11 14:23:52 not really Aug 11 14:24:18 I have a dynip updater thing, but it shoudn't prevent any updates. That stuff sits in a blarg.d/ dir Aug 11 14:24:30 I have an sms nagger that should survive the update too Aug 11 14:24:50 (er, and shouldn't prevent the update from working) Aug 11 14:25:15 I'm pretty excited about the update though. finally drPodder will rock my pants off again Aug 11 14:25:24 downloading naked scientists ftw Aug 11 14:26:20 and wirc Aug 11 14:26:25 and pdk stuf Aug 11 14:26:26 f Aug 11 14:26:47 i've had 1.4.5 for a while and not many problems Aug 11 14:32:16 I was considering installing it, but apparently having kids and no sleep makes you wait for official releases. Aug 11 14:48:54 I'm not bad at it Aug 11 14:48:56 yeah, battery tech isn't there yet Aug 11 14:49:00 I wouldn't call myself good, but I'm not bad Aug 11 14:49:40 summatusmentis: http://wklej.org/hash/129ecd1398f/ i got something like this Aug 11 14:49:52 for the first one i got something like this: select * FROM users ORDER BY startdate DESC LIMIT 10; Aug 11 14:50:08 and for second one something like this: select user_id FROM users where state="Wyoming" AND username="*horse"; Aug 11 14:50:14 and i wonder if it's ok Aug 11 14:50:48 that looks reasonable, but I'm not sure you can use the wildcard like that Aug 11 14:50:51 or should : username like "%horse" Aug 11 14:51:02 that's should be ok i guess Aug 11 14:52:21 yeah Aug 11 14:52:25 % looks better Aug 11 14:52:38 like '%horse' Aug 11 14:53:17 mysql don't take ""? Aug 11 17:28:28 it is F105 Aug 11 17:31:40 gollyzila|comp: The update includes a kernel, so it will be rewritten. If you installed it with Preware, you will be fine, it just wont be there. You will have to wait for the 1.4.5 compatable version. Aug 11 17:31:53 thanks Aug 11 17:49:24 evening Aug 11 18:08:08 Hey all, my theme constantly thinks there is an update for it. I beileve I must have messed up the version numbers. If the current version number is 0.75.0 will changing it to 1.0.0 fix the problem? Or will it need to be 1.75+.0 Aug 11 18:13:21 hi i just wanted to install the messenger patch from preware to allow icq & fb chat but cant find it, could someone help me? thx Aug 11 18:15:05 did you look on the precentral forums? Aug 11 18:31:29 noobPrewithdumbf: looks like server issue Aug 11 18:31:55 org.webosinternals.messagingallplugins_2.0.2_armv7 this one Aug 11 18:32:31 en0x: OK - figured it's just the "ahhhh all my patches need to be reinstalled" freakout post 1.4.5 tyvm Aug 11 18:33:17 noobPrewithdumbf: looks liek issue with cache Aug 11 18:33:53 * noobPrewithdumbf thanks the admins Aug 11 18:35:22 Cyruss1989: the messaging plugins are zipped.. did u unzipped it and picked the ipk files? Aug 11 18:35:44 yeah they end with .ipk Aug 11 18:36:21 u know that u should install them in certain order right? Aug 11 18:36:41 mhh, i guess no, which order? Aug 11 18:36:55 messagnng patches first Aug 11 18:36:58 then bla bla Aug 11 18:37:08 Here's a question: If 1.4.5 on the Pixi can't run hybrid Mojo/PDK apps without a kernel patch... Is it possible to patch that functionality in with one of the replacement kernels like UberKernel/Warthog? D: Aug 11 18:37:09 anyway idk if the messaging plugins are compatible with 1.4.5 Aug 11 18:37:18 that's the version of webOS u have Cyruss1989? Aug 11 18:37:23 the latest Aug 11 18:37:37 meaning 1.4.5 Aug 11 18:37:57 Cyruss1989: maybe they were not updated for 1.4.5 yet? i know they work fine on 1.4.1 Aug 11 18:38:02 SineOt: eee what? Aug 11 18:38:39 SineOt: this is a first time i hear that you need a special kernel to run pdk( hybrid ) apps on pixi Aug 11 18:38:42 I remember talking a long while back about how 1.4.5 on the Pixi can't run hybrid mojo/pdk apps. (Like wIRC 0.3) Aug 11 18:38:42 ;S Aug 11 18:39:05 it can now because it have all the required libs Aug 11 18:39:09 Since there apparently isn't a wIRC 0.3 Pixi build, I can't test it to confirm since I can't install it Aug 11 18:39:14 with the order of the patches, did you mean the messenger patch should overall be the first to install on a brand new pre? Aug 11 18:39:29 is there any reason to purchase a pixi over a pre? Aug 11 18:39:59 Cyruss1989: afaik yes... but like i said i dont know if these pachages have been updated for 1.4.5 which is what i'm trying to tell you for last 10 minutes Aug 11 18:40:31 i understood this lol, i check the forum, thanks for your help Aug 11 18:42:42 summatusmentis: personally? yeah, it fits in my pocket lol Aug 11 18:43:09 SineOt: hah, fair enough Aug 11 18:43:29 and I don't have to worry about the hinge getting jacked because I pocket it all the time Aug 11 18:43:41 and the keyboard is a lot better than it is on the Pre Aug 11 18:43:46 is it? Aug 11 18:43:53 is it closer to the centro keyboard? Aug 11 18:43:59 yeah, the keys are a lot taller/harder Aug 11 18:44:02 is the screen size botehrsome? Aug 11 18:44:04 never used a Centro but probably Aug 11 18:44:07 en0x: Concerning the forum it is compatible to 1.4.x so it is probably the order of installatiob Aug 11 18:44:29 not really, you never really notice it unless there's an app that wasn't designed to resize to fit Aug 11 18:44:54 so sometimes you get apps that have forced white space that pushes buttons down and you have to scroll but that's not that much of a problem since the majority of them just work fine Aug 11 18:45:21 interesting Aug 11 18:45:48 i used my sis pixi for a while and i like it better than pre Aug 11 18:45:53 but hte screen size Aug 11 18:45:54 :S Aug 11 18:46:16 aside from the PDK taking forever to make its way over to the Pixi there really isn't that much difference I think between the two, at least for me Aug 11 18:46:19 the screen size worries me Aug 11 18:46:34 I use my girlfriend's Pre all the time and the keyboard on it worries me XD Aug 11 18:46:42 SineOt: pdk is out for pixi... with 1.4.5 so i don't see what ur a talking about Aug 11 18:46:45 so I can deal with losing 80 pixels Aug 11 18:47:20 PDK only just now getting to the Pixi with 1.4.5, when you had early support for it on the Pre with 1.3.5 or whenever it showed up :p Aug 11 18:47:20 is it really only 80 pixels? Aug 11 18:47:24 yes Aug 11 18:47:27 hrm Aug 11 18:47:34 Pre is 320x480, Pixi is 320x400 Aug 11 18:47:35 SineOt: right Aug 11 18:47:47 brb coffee time Aug 11 18:47:48 I blame ka6sox for the server issues. :p Aug 11 18:48:00 swisstomcat: W-8BEN form? Since months Aug 11 18:48:04 hey, just downloaded wirc, is it working Aug 11 18:48:22 Had some money at MobiHand which I needed it for too Aug 11 18:48:28 metaview: i never filled one out but now i have to because of hot apps Aug 11 18:48:46 of course right now it's kind of moot since there's nothing in the app catalog that uses both the PDK and supports the Pixi :p and all the Preware homebrew apps that might use it don't have armv6 builds Aug 11 18:48:50 they might collect 30% without this form Aug 11 18:49:00 it's what Palmgear did all the years Aug 11 18:49:25 metaview: but i found out that you don't have to provide an ssn or itin Aug 11 18:49:27 but the amount was too less for me to do the form earlier :) Aug 11 18:49:50 the pixi doesn't have microsd either huh? Aug 11 18:49:54 I have an EIN Aug 11 18:50:04 er, the Pre doesn't have microSD either, so no Aug 11 18:50:10 right Aug 11 18:50:29 metaview: that's easier then for you Aug 11 18:50:31 but in most of my usage 8GB is plenty for a few movies and songs Aug 11 18:50:39 oh, pixi on sprint doesn't have wifi Aug 11 18:50:43 I applied for an EIN with form SS-4 and called the Department in US and used this EIN in my W-8BEN Aug 11 18:50:54 not that I understand it all... Aug 11 18:51:06 yeah, it all sounds very complicated Aug 11 18:51:08 no, sadly, which is really dumb. Apparently you can swap the radio board with a Verizon Pixi+ and get Wifi on it real easy though Aug 11 18:51:08 bah, any pro tips on fixing the headset detection issues? (no sound, it thinks headset is in, etc?) Aug 11 18:51:14 They even have my name wrong, I need to write them once to correcdt it.... Aug 11 18:51:21 but for me as an individual i don't need an ssn/itin Aug 11 18:51:30 iirc zsoc had some magic on that front, not sure I remember it. :( Aug 11 18:51:32 doesn't swapping the radio board swap wifi also? Aug 11 18:51:32 I'm an individual too Aug 11 18:51:46 hello Aug 11 18:51:53 but hey, maybe this EIN is for some use later Aug 11 18:51:56 but isn't the ein from a company Aug 11 18:52:10 summatusmentis: yeah, that's the point. the boards are exactly the same, except where on the Sprint one is an empty solder point, the Verizon one has a Wifi chip Aug 11 18:52:27 no: type of entity: Sole properity Aug 11 18:52:34 ah, that's different Aug 11 18:52:39 for this I got the EIN Aug 11 18:52:44 einzelunternehmung? Aug 11 18:52:57 I guess Aug 11 18:53:01 SineOt: but then you're swapping out your cell radio too? or am I missing something? Aug 11 18:53:21 Verizon/Sprint use the same frequencies Aug 11 18:53:24 I found some German guidance in the inet Aug 11 18:53:38 the link was on nexave.de in the forums Aug 11 18:55:06 yeah, i found some stuff too Aug 11 18:55:06 the normal app income doesn't need an W-8BEN? Aug 11 18:55:06 apparently not because i never filled one out so far :) Aug 11 18:55:06 I just repeated it all and then I called them, the call took 5 min waiting and 5 min talking Aug 11 18:55:07 SineOt: yes, but they have different ESNs Aug 11 18:55:07 their cell radios do Aug 11 18:55:07 it's cdma Aug 11 18:55:07 and imho cdma is crap Aug 11 18:55:08 help, is this working Aug 11 18:55:09 gsm rulz Aug 11 18:55:10 idk, I just know that someone on the Precentral forums did it and hasn't had any issue Aug 11 18:55:19 swisstomcat: my experience with MobiHand and PalmGear was that they will pay 30% to the US gov without the W-8BEN Aug 11 18:55:20 swisstomcat: indeed Aug 11 18:55:44 i'll check with chuq .. thanks Aug 11 18:55:47 don't kno what Palm does, but they might do it soon Aug 11 18:55:48 Anyone had problems with the time acting funky after the latest govnah update? My clock run about 100x too slow... Aug 11 18:55:49 en0x: technically, I agree. practically, CDMA works better where I am Aug 11 18:56:12 yes but i'm saying from technical point of view Aug 11 18:56:32 sure, I can get behind that Aug 11 18:58:25 i wonder how happy is my sis from her pixi after one day of use Aug 11 18:58:25 and yeah, CDMA is like a billion times better where I'm at than our old GSM coverage was Aug 11 18:58:25 I don't drop calls if I answer them inside :p Aug 11 18:58:25 Anyone had problems with the time acting funky after the latest govnah update? My clock run about 100x too slow... no problems here on sprint pre Aug 11 18:58:46 john1313: hmm, ok thanks Aug 11 19:00:02 oh Aug 11 19:00:11 there is nothing better than a coffee with whisky Aug 11 19:00:35 yes there is, two coffees with whisky Aug 11 19:00:40 :D Aug 11 19:01:59 oh nothing to do... Aug 11 19:02:06 and 1 more hour to go home Aug 11 19:02:15 work on an app Aug 11 19:02:25 yeah right Aug 11 19:02:34 SineOt: oooh, the precentral thread says that the ESN and IMEI numbers aren't tied to the cell radio, but the main mobo instead Aug 11 19:02:49 that was going to be my guess Aug 11 19:03:43 that's not the way the board swap for the pre works, which is why I was confused Aug 11 19:06:20 ah Aug 11 19:06:45 oh oh my pre just turned off Aug 11 19:06:51 id does it time to time Aug 11 19:07:03 and my warranty expired so i gonna stick with what i got Aug 11 19:07:09 yeah it's weird honestly the Pixi seems a lot better designed than the Pre was. Removing the battery from my Pixi is a no brainer and super easy, taking it out of my gf's Pre? I had to google for a step by step because I couldn't figure it out :( Aug 11 19:08:09 hmmm if u say so Aug 11 19:08:13 seriously, pushing the button then having to run your nail all the way around to unlatch the back? why is the button even there then Aug 11 19:08:48 http://www.aurichlawson.com/ars/misc/exiting-aircraft.jpg buehehehe Aug 11 19:09:01 has anyone had a tough time installing ubercalendar? Aug 11 19:10:21 I was using the newest uber kernel. I just installed the recovery kernel (stock) and my time issues have gone away. Is this the appropriate place to mention this? Aug 11 19:10:39 my uberkernel works fine Aug 11 19:10:55 Mine didn't... Aug 11 19:11:08 then it must be a PEBKAC! Aug 11 19:11:12 So just a quick check for 1.4.5 - uninstall theme, install original kernel (needed?), patches can remain installed? Aug 11 19:11:34 kernel can stay too Aug 11 19:11:44 there is few patches which are break after update Aug 11 19:11:48 oh, and uh btw: is the OTA update for 1.4.5 the same as the Doctor version that leaked like two weeks ago? Aug 11 19:11:50 it's posted on a forum Aug 11 19:12:00 SineOt: it's newer build Aug 11 19:12:13 I will try reinstalling the uber kernel in an hour or two and see if I get the same problem again. Aug 11 19:12:16 how can I check that? Aug 11 19:12:30 check what? Aug 11 19:12:32 I installed the OTA over the 1.4.5 Doctor, which is why I'm curious Aug 11 19:12:37 what build I'm currently running Aug 11 19:12:39 en0x: okay great, so only uninstall the theme, update, and reinstall theme? Aug 11 19:13:03 basically Flashpass Aug 11 19:13:17 SineOt: device info and tap on webos 1.4.5 Aug 11 19:13:32 it should give u a build number Aug 11 19:13:51 Flashpass: well i always uninstall kernel and patches before i do update just in case Aug 11 19:14:39 271 sound right? Aug 11 19:14:44 for pixi? Aug 11 19:14:51 yeah Aug 11 19:15:33 yap Aug 11 19:16:23 that probably explains why even though I was already on 1.4.5, the update still showed up in the OTA update app Aug 11 19:17:15 might be Aug 11 19:19:52 halfhalo, which server issues? Aug 11 19:20:01 u borked preware feeds! Aug 11 20:44:36 i think so Aug 11 20:46:16 what did you do? used preware to install/update uberkernel? Aug 11 20:48:33 Confirmed that UberKernel is fully compatible with webOS 1.4.5 on Sprint and safe to leave in place during the OTA update. Aug 11 20:49:05 from @webosinternals Aug 11 20:54:44 the package fails to install Aug 11 20:54:57 and says that it's incompatible with 1.4.5 Aug 11 20:55:11 which package? Aug 11 20:55:15 uberkernel Aug 11 20:55:21 details? Aug 11 20:55:36 it says this in the ipkg log Aug 11 20:57:40 postinstall fails iwth this message Aug 11 20:57:45 when is this going to be fixed ? Aug 11 20:58:02 what message? Aug 11 20:58:36 it flat out say that this version of the uberkernel is incompatible with this version of webos Aug 11 20:58:55 like what else is needed here ? Aug 11 20:59:36 there really isn't much unclarity about this issue, it's having a problem installing because of a freaking version check/build issue Aug 11 20:59:47 oh, dur, thats because the 1.4.5 kernel feed is down Aug 11 20:59:52 ok Aug 11 21:00:00 its trying to install the one for 1.4.1.1.1.1.1 or whatever Aug 11 21:00:10 oh Aug 11 21:00:14 it is that package Aug 11 21:00:17 doesn't like it Aug 11 21:18:35 ok so my pre just updated on its own, and I had no time to prepare Aug 11 21:19:08 it successfully upgraded, dev mode still on, preware still there, whats next Aug 11 21:19:48 run? Aug 11 21:20:51 no heh, there are lots of updates in preware Aug 11 21:21:02 i think those shoudl be ok to do, which includes patches Aug 11 21:21:43 unless there's something i'm forgetting, before i can apply updates Aug 11 21:23:58 is there a doctor for 1.4.5 out there yet ? Aug 11 21:24:09 * dr_jkl slinks in and sets up camp Aug 11 21:24:17 time to learn by osmosis. :) Aug 11 21:25:01 i dont think i have any patches with known flaws with AUPT Aug 11 21:27:17 oh, yeah, that was the weird thing when I applied the OTA over my 1.4.5 doctored version: it updated everything, but patches/etc stayed installed. only thing that turned out weird was Warthog got replaced Aug 11 21:29:10 i was on uberkernel Aug 11 21:29:26 applying the fstab patch/fix Aug 11 21:29:32 rebooting Aug 11 21:33:31 apply fstab fix Aug 11 21:33:40 update patches Aug 11 21:33:46 update kernel Aug 11 21:34:22 nod, thanks for confirming Aug 11 21:36:59 new uberkernel OC on the pixi too? Aug 11 21:37:08 I assume so, but just verifying Aug 11 21:39:21 Pixi doesn't have OC that I know of Aug 11 21:39:27 you can underclock it though :p Aug 11 21:40:42 it is possible to try overclocking the pixi Aug 11 21:40:57 whether it works is a different matter Aug 11 21:51:06 is there a reason it shouldn't? does the pixi have a different cpu? Aug 11 21:52:29 yes, it uses an MSM2772 or something from Broadcom instead of the TI omap3 Aug 11 21:53:25 600mhz Aug 11 21:57:49 oh Aug 11 22:01:41 it's also an arm v6 instead of an arm v7 Aug 11 22:02:43 does that affect the homebrew stuff? Aug 11 22:04:08 somewhat. Just means that there has to be a build of it for armv6 instead Aug 11 22:04:11 (most stuff there is) Aug 11 22:04:30 patches it doesn't matter, just apps and stuff like kernels Aug 11 22:05:48 oh, duh Aug 11 22:06:41 I knew that Aug 11 22:07:03 I'm tempted by the pixi, as an interim phone, until new hardware comes out Aug 11 22:08:02 I've had mine since like... a week after launch. Aside from not having Wifi on the Sprint one (which really, isn't that bad) it's a great phone Aug 11 22:08:28 with 1.4.5 bringing the PDK to it it closes the gap even more. Yeah it's not as powerful as the Pre, but eh Aug 11 22:09:43 my past two phones haven't had wifi Aug 11 22:09:49 I cared more on my centro Aug 11 22:09:57 less so on my htc touch running android Aug 11 22:10:17 I live in a pretty mediocre signal area so there's a few times where I'm like, "sure wish I had wifi" Aug 11 22:10:32 yeah, I know how that goes Aug 11 22:10:33 just for that fact that sometimes my 3G coverage only hits like 200kbps when I'm in my room Aug 11 22:10:55 but out at school and most wherever it's not an issue since I'll pull like 1.5mbps there Aug 11 22:11:39 well, I don't do heavy duty browsing on my phone Aug 11 22:12:49 oh, the wifi thing means no wifi tethering Aug 11 22:12:53 oh, missed the topic, my bad Aug 11 22:12:56 most of the time it's when updating something with Preware :p Aug 11 22:14:18 ah :) Aug 11 22:19:49 the keyboard is worth losing 80 pixels for though :p Aug 11 22:20:17 the only difference between pixi and pixi+ is wifi right? Aug 11 22:20:34 yup, everything else is the same Aug 11 22:20:41 pixi+: it has the wifis Aug 11 22:20:57 well, that and the Pixi+ tends to come bundled with some horrible disaster of a data plan :p Aug 11 22:21:33 right :) Aug 11 22:24:56 morning Aug 11 22:25:04 does someone here have the flac/off gstreamer plugin? Aug 11 22:25:14 s/off/ogg that is Aug 11 22:26:12 hi rwhitby Aug 11 22:36:55 <------Needs help with kernal updates Aug 11 22:48:01 lol. 'kernal'. Aug 11 22:53:19 Anyone know when well get the ok for the faster kernels on 1.4.5 Aug 11 22:53:31 1ghz and 1.2ghz? Aug 11 22:53:41 as soon as the server is back up and running Aug 11 22:54:29 bah I see Aug 11 22:55:08 Ill install the stable release for now Aug 11 22:57:36 well, I'd rather not doctor, but a minor annoyance before is now keeping me from updating to 1.4.5. i'm on sprint pre 1.4.1.1. whenever I start the updates app, it never gets past "checking for updates" I've restarted the phone, stopped and started UpdateDaemon, ran UpdateDaemon in the foreground to watch its output but nothing jumps out at me... any ideas what else I can try? Aug 11 22:58:39 has anyone written a different terminal app for the pre that doesn't scroll down past the visible area of the screen? :) Aug 11 23:00:04 there are two that i know of terminal and terminus Aug 11 23:00:33 They both have "problems" with printing Aug 11 23:02:54 yup Aug 11 23:03:23 the terminal program on my ipod touch works in a pinch.. Aug 11 23:03:58 terminus much less in the landscape or whatever mode in terminal is really good Aug 11 23:04:11 but it prints below the viewable area Aug 11 23:08:25 terminus hungs on my pre Aug 11 23:08:29 im running 1.4.5 Aug 11 23:10:14 well, trying the fix in this thread: http://forums.precentral.net/general-webos-chat/223740-phantom-app-download-catalog.html Aug 11 23:10:30 rebooting now, we'll see if my updates app works now Aug 11 23:11:44 destrudo: i wish someone would make one that doesn't :/ Aug 11 23:11:48 1.4.5 is out in US? Aug 11 23:12:06 no Aug 11 23:12:08 not yet Aug 11 23:13:10 lies Aug 11 23:13:24 dr_jkl: Buy a coder Aug 11 23:13:43 * dr_jkl sighs Aug 11 23:13:56 PuffTheMagic: your nick makes me think of peter, paul & mary Aug 11 23:14:19 buy me 2 months of rent, booze and food and we'll see what happens Aug 11 23:14:20 lol Aug 11 23:14:31 1.4.5 is out on sprint Aug 11 23:15:04 dr_jkl: it should Aug 11 23:15:23 :) Aug 11 23:15:53 pullingj: I think Sprint is just having a lot of problems right now Aug 11 23:16:00 if it doesn't work now, try later in the evening Aug 11 23:16:20 my Pixi was doing that yesterday at around this time, so I just tried again around 9 or 10 and it worked fine Aug 11 23:17:18 sweet, new wirc going to be on my main device and I still haven't had to doctor this one since I got dev Aug 11 23:17:19 thanks oil! Aug 11 23:17:41 (for doctoring and thus forcing sprint release :P) Aug 11 23:18:26 :D Aug 11 23:23:34 egaudet: rest assured oil will not be allowed to go that long with out doctoring again Aug 11 23:23:50 lol Aug 11 23:25:03 can't wait for 1.4.5 to install, get new wirc, go on bip and close all channel cards :D Aug 11 23:25:11 lol Aug 11 23:26:17 wirc will help me kick the habit of having to swipe every card away all the time though Aug 11 23:29:46 well that fix didn't work. and to sineot (or others since he signed off), my updates app has been stuck at checking for updates for months now.. Aug 11 23:34:27 hello Aug 11 23:35:06 is there a way to hit the hardware button with the emulator? Aug 11 23:35:16 or to call up task switching? How would you reword the existing documentation so that you didn't have to ask this question?
