Nov 08 09:24:36 no Nov 08 09:24:46 there are much more in palmpre/master and palmpre/sd8xxx Nov 08 09:24:53 I backported devtmpfs for example Nov 08 09:25:06 and other fixes we need for FSO/SHR on the palmpre Nov 08 09:25:17 ok, what is the best way to extract out just the wifi driver? Nov 08 09:25:25 I will do a separate branch for you and create the patches Nov 08 09:25:30 wait a moment Nov 08 09:25:43 ok Nov 08 09:26:29 morphis: PuffTheMagic will be very excited by this breakthrough Nov 08 09:26:42 hehe Nov 08 09:26:58 I already talked with him about kexec for the kernel Nov 08 09:27:01 morphis: do you have a twitter handle? Nov 08 09:27:27 jepp "morphis" Nov 08 09:27:40 but I don't use it that often Nov 08 09:27:55 maybe I should do that ... Nov 08 09:29:21 * oil doesnt use his very often either Nov 08 09:29:32 :) Nov 08 09:29:49 rwhitby: so, there is now a palmpre/for-ueberkernel branch Nov 08 09:30:04 it contains everything you need for getting wifi Nov 08 09:30:32 I will do a clean build now to take care that it is still compiling Nov 08 09:32:11 morphis: do you have a pastie that shows promisc mode? Nov 08 09:32:20 no Nov 08 09:33:25 will take my breakfast next, then do some university stuff and after that I will work again on the wifi thing Nov 08 09:35:00 but Nov 08 09:35:01 root@palm-webos-device:/media/internal/kmods# iwconfig eth0 mode monitor Nov 08 09:35:01 Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) : Nov 08 09:35:01 SET failed on device eth0 ; Invalid argument. Nov 08 09:36:19 first I need to get a connection to a network Nov 08 09:36:31 I just got the interface and first scan results Nov 08 09:42:16 rwhitby: http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/DevDayNYC Nov 08 09:42:24 you should add preware and homebrew to your dictionary, haha Nov 08 09:48:16 oil: yeah, I have now :) Nov 08 09:48:20 haha Nov 08 09:48:52 morphis: just that far is a big breakthrough Nov 08 09:49:25 jepp Nov 08 09:59:36 morning Nov 08 10:04:09 hey Nov 08 11:52:26 rwhitby: do you anyone tried to get another bluetooth implementation than Palm's running on the Pre? Nov 08 11:52:38 no Nov 08 11:52:52 destinal-sleepin: looked at it, but I don't think he attempted any replacement Nov 08 11:53:00 hm ok Nov 08 11:54:08 than I have to try on my own Nov 08 16:30:21 is there anything selecting 'airplane mode' from the device menu does that turning off all the radios individually doesn't do? other than make a cute lil airplane appear in the top bar? Nov 08 16:34:08 ooo promisc mode on wifi for the pre would be nice Nov 08 16:34:31 and shiny! Nov 08 16:56:04 jhojho, what would u do with promisc, not like u could break wep keys on a pre Nov 08 16:56:16 in any sort of reasonable time frame Nov 08 18:02:51 what's the newest, best working OC'd kernel for pixi? Nov 08 18:21:23 nodejs-log <- must be a halfhalo creation Nov 08 18:21:31 he has a hardon for node Nov 08 18:36:10 im trying to install the warthog kernel but i cant find it Nov 08 18:38:13 ive gone to the webos internals website for testing feeds, ive added the preware is awesome.com feed but im not finding the kernel??? Nov 08 18:38:28 is it not available anymore? Nov 08 18:38:44 or is uberkernel updated to use the 900mhz kernel? Nov 08 18:46:53 Can anyone recommend a good case (belt-clip or not) and a good battery for my new Pre Plus? Nov 08 18:48:34 sambodamon Nov 08 18:48:38 umm Nov 08 19:23:12 could someone assist me in getting the 900mhz kernel on a pixi please? Nov 08 19:25:46 now this is how it should be done..as opposed to that troll last night Nov 08 19:26:05 ? Nov 08 19:26:27 Loudergood: are you referring to me? Nov 08 19:26:40 yes, you're nice and polite Nov 08 19:27:35 well thank you, i try to be, usually the only way ppl will help you, as opposed to me saying hey help me damnit Nov 08 19:27:49 lmao :P Nov 08 19:27:52 which, I believe, were the exact words of the person last night :) Nov 08 19:29:07 well ive gone to the testing feeds wiki link and entered the http://preware.is.awesome.com feed but it doesnt show up Nov 08 19:29:26 has the warthog kernel made it to beta rather than alpha? Nov 08 19:39:26 seems as tho my niceness didnt get me very far lol Nov 08 19:41:45 unfortunately I don't have a pixi, and the thread I found wasn't helping me Nov 08 19:42:14 ya ive been looking too, usually i start with google and resort to here Nov 08 19:42:35 theres no documentation that ive found so far for the warthog kernel for the pici Nov 08 19:42:36 pixi* Nov 08 19:43:39 what are you trying to figure out? Nov 08 19:44:33 trying to get the 900mhz kernel on a pixi, ive added the http://preware.is.awesome.com feed but not finding anything Nov 08 19:44:54 assuming that, that is the correct feed for it? Nov 08 19:45:54 using this page http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Testing_Feeds Nov 08 19:47:45 I don't think there is a publicly available 900mhz kernel right now Nov 08 19:47:48 so you want a puddle of molten plastic? Nov 08 19:48:14 and it looks like warthog only does 787.2 at the moment Nov 08 19:48:28 hahaha ya i read that, but i was speaking with rwhitby a week or so back and i think he was referring me too it Nov 08 19:48:57 http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Application:WarthogKernel Nov 08 19:48:58 i thought it was out on alpha testing, said it was pretty stable Nov 08 19:49:36 is their a stable release for the pixi? Nov 08 19:50:06 Uberkernel is about as stable as you'll get for the Pixi Nov 08 19:50:10 but Warthog hasn't given me issues Nov 08 19:50:15 whats the clock for it? Nov 08 19:50:23 and your running at? Nov 08 19:50:28 887 Nov 08 19:50:53 require more knowledge then click and choose? Nov 08 19:51:04 nupe Nov 08 19:51:16 what feed is the warthog under? Nov 08 19:51:39 armv6 feed? Nov 08 19:51:45 kernel testing Nov 08 19:52:02 http://preware.org/feeds/webos-internals/testing/armv6? Nov 08 19:52:36 or http://preware.is.awesome.com? Nov 08 19:52:59 let me get the URL after I reboot my Pixi Nov 08 19:53:08 ok thanks a lot Nov 08 19:53:46 i had my friend add the preware is awesome feed but he didnt gain anything and it gave an error on the update Nov 08 19:54:11 that site doesn't resolve to anything so Nov 08 19:54:22 oh... lol Nov 08 19:55:36 anyone noticing any slowness to google today? Nov 08 19:56:09 not really, but I'm sure that depends on regional data centers Nov 08 19:56:31 it literally takes like a minute to load the front page to google, im in central usa Nov 08 19:57:04 west coast feels okish... Nov 08 19:57:10 so weird, never encountered anything like this before Nov 08 19:57:18 yeah it's fast in New England Nov 08 19:57:26 weird... Nov 08 19:57:30 xbonesx: no issue here, and I'm in MN Nov 08 19:57:46 really, i have no clue then... Nov 08 19:58:10 ISP maybe? Nov 08 19:58:16 probably Nov 08 19:58:27 tethering from a palm pre via wifi Nov 08 19:58:34 they do tend to screw things up and not notice for awhlie Nov 08 19:58:39 * Loudergood works for an ISP Nov 08 19:59:41 http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/9890/screenshotkb.png Nov 08 19:59:58 * SineOt 's eyes melt out of his face. Nov 08 20:00:43 Sine0t: ? lol Nov 08 20:00:57 ugh, I hate black themes :( Nov 08 20:01:10 ya sry about that, there easy on my eyes Nov 08 20:01:10 If you're going to clone the OSX dock, at least clone the side dock! Nov 08 20:01:17 lol Nov 08 20:01:38 oh, I didn't notice that was gnome Nov 08 20:01:43 I assumed it was just themed OS X Nov 08 20:01:54 naw im running ubuntu 10.04 Nov 08 20:02:06 that's reasonable Nov 08 20:02:07 just a black theme with cairo dock Nov 08 20:02:35 fell in love with linux about 3 or 4 months ago, havent been back on window in weeks lol Nov 08 20:02:51 oh yeah, I know the feeling Nov 08 20:03:26 granted it takes a little bit more knowledge to run properly, once it is, much better Nov 08 20:03:50 I'm not sure that's true anymore Nov 08 20:04:00 it maybe takes different knowledge to run properly Nov 08 20:04:09 maybe, maybe not, but im still satisfied Nov 08 20:04:15 oh right Nov 08 20:04:25 It takes more. Even Ubuntu 10.10 does some really, really, really stupid stuff. Nov 08 20:04:27 ubuntu has become quite user friendly Nov 08 20:04:39 SineOt: and windows doesn't? Nov 08 20:04:48 Like including the kernel module for Sentellic trackpads but then not letting you configure it in the Mouse/Trackpad settings! :V Nov 08 20:04:49 more people are just used to windows stupidity Nov 08 20:04:50 i havent upgraded due to all the negative feed back Nov 08 20:05:06 Hope you like digging around for obscure bash scripts. Nov 08 20:05:15 lol Nov 08 20:05:26 with 10.10? Nov 08 20:05:30 Anyways: Side docks, best docks. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/469264/Screen%20shot%202010-09-02%20at%207.17.09%20PM.PNG Nov 08 20:05:33 or 10.04? Nov 08 20:05:34 With any Ubuntu actually. Nov 08 20:05:46 I admit I'm biased, I've been using linux/terminal for a long time, so, I'm sorta used to it Nov 08 20:05:51 It includes the kernel driver for a long time now. Nov 08 20:05:53 <3 side docks Nov 08 20:05:59 I keep mine ont he right Nov 08 20:06:02 on the* Nov 08 20:06:11 But still hasn't put in the support to the Mouse/Trackpad settings to actually, you know, adjust the trackpad settings. Nov 08 20:06:37 lol i like that i could modify this one to go on the side or have multiple but i use multiple workspaces and having it at the bottom just seemed more structure Nov 08 20:07:11 I use multiple workspaces too~ It's not like the dock moves anywhere. Nov 08 20:07:28 I figure my monitor is a lot wider than it is tall so might as well side dock it where I won't care about losing however much space it is. Nov 08 20:07:40 xbonesx: wait, you can configure that dock to be different depending on what your workspace is? Nov 08 20:07:49 SineOt: this. Nov 08 20:08:28 summatusmentis: it recreates itself on every workspace Nov 08 20:08:51 the same dock not different settings per workspace tho Nov 08 20:08:52 oh, so it won't show different icons or whatever? Nov 08 20:08:59 no Nov 08 20:09:03 oh, that's not exciting Nov 08 20:09:06 :) Nov 08 20:09:08 same exact dock per workspace Nov 08 20:09:12 lol Nov 08 20:10:05 SineOt: seems like that screen has had to much abuse? Nov 08 20:10:32 I baby this thing, I don't even carry it in my pockets. :C Nov 08 20:10:48 I carry it in a Built camera hard case. Nov 08 20:10:53 (And it disappears after a battery pull) Nov 08 20:10:54 wow that is crazy, like a ghost playing on your phone lmao Nov 08 20:11:24 Yeah, I wasn't able to catch it when it was sending emails, lol. Nov 08 20:11:32 But it launched the Engadget app all on its own. Nov 08 20:11:55 wow thats insane, has your phone caught a virus of some sort? Nov 08 20:12:08 i mean i dont know what could make it do that plus its linux Nov 08 20:12:25 I think what it is might be like, a grounding issue. Nov 08 20:12:36 What you can't see in the video is that the left side of the keyboard doesn't light up. Nov 08 20:12:42 Typing too much seems to kill it. :C Nov 08 20:12:49 Had it happen with two phones now. Nov 08 20:13:51 huh hope the pre 2 wont have that issue Nov 08 20:14:08 considering the new keys its gained Nov 08 20:14:13 Haven't seen it happen with the Pre, just my two Pixi. Nov 08 20:14:17 And only on the left side. Nov 08 20:14:24 If you wiggle shift it flickers the backlight. :s Nov 08 20:14:28 perhaps they need to hire you as a stress tester Nov 08 20:15:36 hahaah Nov 08 20:15:53 SineOt: any luck on that feed for the warthog? Nov 08 20:16:03 oh, yeah, give me a minute Nov 08 20:16:06 or is your pixi not letting you Nov 08 20:16:19 k thanks again Nov 08 20:42:22 xbonesx: sorry for the delay! Nov 08 20:42:26 http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/webos-kernels/testing/1.4.5/ is the proper feed Nov 08 20:49:29 SineOt: thank you sir Nov 08 21:04:54 hello all... bored in the car and came up with a question. is there a way to run a vnc server on my pre? Nov 08 21:07:12 I dunno... But that'd be pretty cool. Nov 08 21:08:24 SineOt, xbonesx: preware.is.awesome.com is a joke URL. As long as you get the feed *name* (not URL) correct, Preware rewrites it to the correct URL on the next reboot, like it says on the Testing Feeds wiki page. Nov 08 21:09:14 hahaha awesome Nov 08 21:09:25 That's what I figured it was Nov 08 21:10:13 so as long as the feed name is right preware will take care of the rest lol nifty Nov 08 21:10:50 what the news on the kernel there rwhitby? Nov 08 21:11:21 latest news is in the precentral thread Nov 08 21:11:35 ok ill look around Nov 08 21:12:45 so what does the feed url actually end up being? http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/webos-internals/testing/1.4.5/ ? Nov 08 21:13:31 we don't say, cause people keep mistyping the feed name and then the automatic version update doesn't work Nov 08 21:13:59 the preware.is.awesome.com just makes it easy for us to identify the people who have mistyped the feed name Nov 08 21:16:55 ok well, i will have to make that clear to my buddy cuz im coaching him threw all of this over the phone so im sure hes making sortcuts like not spelling it correctly Nov 08 21:18:17 rwhitby, there a new thread? Nov 08 21:30:22 Is it the "what can we learn" thread? Nov 08 21:48:12 SineOt: you still here? Nov 08 21:48:18 mmhm Nov 08 21:50:38 so i have it installed but are no default profiles for 700, assuming i have to manually set it up? Nov 08 21:50:50 yes Nov 08 21:51:07 again im talkin to this kid over the phone right now Nov 08 21:51:24 I hope both you and your friend have accepted the alpha testing rules Nov 08 21:51:30 so if maybe a child guide to this would be nice, if either of you are willing to help me Nov 08 21:51:40 yes he agreed Nov 08 21:51:43 there are no child guides to alpha testing Nov 08 21:51:43 i told him about it all Nov 08 21:51:57 yeah, if you can't figure it out, you probably shouldn't be alpha testing Nov 08 21:52:01 i mean how to set it up to the max somewhat stable speed Nov 08 21:52:12 depends on the hardware Nov 08 21:52:18 um, the point of the alpha testing is to determine just that Nov 08 21:52:22 tell him to step it up bit by bit, if it's stable, go higher Nov 08 21:52:39 where should i start? Nov 08 21:52:43 try 700? Nov 08 21:53:07 647 or whatever Nov 08 21:53:19 userspace? Nov 08 21:53:33 ondemandtcl works a lot better Nov 08 21:53:41 xbonesx: have you even read the thread? Nov 08 21:53:53 userspace lets LunaSysMgr handle it so you won't ever see it go past 600 :T Nov 08 21:54:04 be sure to show us pictures of the melted pixi Nov 08 21:54:26 tcl is a better choice since it lets it throttle down, but will ramp it up if the tp or a gpio key is pressed Nov 08 21:54:27 Sine0t: you said youve been using it correct? Nov 08 21:55:05 chrisa: yeah, no real need to change govnernor on the pixi Nov 08 21:55:17 yes, I have Nov 08 21:55:22 so is it safer to say i should just let him use the fixed speed 600 for now until any improvements have been made? Nov 08 21:55:35 :[ Nov 08 21:55:54 no, because that'd be a sure fire way to kill his battery since it'll never throttle down :[ Nov 08 21:56:53 Common sense, man :[ Nov 08 21:57:23 ok i think ill just have him stick with the 600, will it run with a charger plugged in? Nov 08 21:57:50 sigh Nov 08 21:57:59 600 what, fixed speed? Nov 08 21:58:03 yes? Nov 08 21:58:18 why? that'll murder his battery for almost 0 gain Nov 08 21:58:49 If the phone needs to, it'll already throttle up to 600 Nov 08 21:58:50 im sry maybe you guys are right and i shouldnt be mettling in this quite yet Nov 08 21:58:57 right Nov 08 21:59:08 setting it to fixed 600 means that it's -always- at 600 Nov 08 21:59:18 even when the screen is off or it's not doing anything Nov 08 21:59:39 right he would only use that when he was wanting to do stuff on the phone but when hes done he would just switch back too the palm default Nov 08 22:00:16 you'd basically gain nothing from that Nov 08 22:00:30 because when you're doing stuff on the phone it's already going to go "hey I'm in use" and throttle up towards 600 Nov 08 22:00:37 hes doing it right now and hes saying that hes seeing a gain on speed and load times Nov 08 22:01:02 there's this thing called placebo effect ;P Nov 08 22:01:12 if you're expecting it to go faster, you're probably going to think that it is Nov 08 22:03:17 so does the 147 increase on your phone from 600 really make much of a difference? Nov 08 22:03:48 Sine0t: thinking you said something about running it 7** something Nov 08 22:03:54 787 right now Nov 08 22:04:01 and yes Nov 08 22:04:23 like make you jump up and down type of increase? Nov 08 22:04:46 i mean personally i have no clue of the speed of the pixi, i have a pre running 1ghz screenstate Nov 08 22:04:54 higher clock rates on a pixi don't make a huge difference Nov 08 22:05:01 didnt think so Nov 08 22:05:04 swap is its primary bottleneck Nov 08 22:05:08 webOS mark scores went from about 225-230 to the 350s, which puts it a little faster than a stock Pre (it'll never reach the speeds of like a 1ghz Pre, that's just dumb thinking) Nov 08 22:05:24 oh no i was saying Nov 08 22:05:25 that Nov 08 22:05:30 wasnt saying that Nov 08 22:05:54 im saying i dont know what hes experiencing on his phone lol Nov 08 22:06:14 my phone runs flawlessly, with the exception of my crappy battery now lol Nov 08 22:07:57 well, having had a Pixi for over a year now... :p Nov 08 22:08:18 the difference between Palm Default and Fixed Speed 600 is like so tiny it's not worth the battery drain Nov 08 22:18:42 pre 2 out for verizon yet? Nov 08 22:18:53 thought preorders were being taken today? Nov 08 22:23:17 HP backed off the 8th and replaced it with a "coming months" thing. Nov 08 22:24:16 I think there's either one of two reasons for it: It's Verizon being Verizon and focussing instead on their more lucrative Android handsets that are landing this week, or HP pushed the launch back slightly so that Verizon could focus instead on the Pre 2 and not try to fit the Pre 2 in with a bunch of heavy hitter Android handsets. Nov 08 22:24:19 But that's my theory. :p Nov 08 22:24:40 sounds like a good one Nov 08 22:24:53 sounds possible Nov 08 22:25:19 i dont care either way im on sprint, waiting to use my upgrade on one of those 5 mystery devices Nov 08 22:25:30 Between the Droid Pro and the Samsung Continuum, it'd be hard to work in the Pre 2. :p Nov 08 22:25:38 god i hope Q1 brings good news Nov 08 22:25:48 right Nov 08 22:27:42 Personally, I think the Pre 2 is a pretty decent phone on its own. Nov 08 22:28:17 But if you were to try to launch it the same week as the Droid Pro, which is basically the already wildly successful Droid 2 mixed with a Blackberry, and the Continuum, which has two displays, well... Nov 08 22:28:33 It'd get lost in the "whoa it's like a blackberry! whoa it has two screens!" Nov 08 22:54:46 my friend is now trying to get a different phone and is telling them its screwed up, they want to run an over the air software test, what things should he remove or do so that the company doesnt try to blame any of the homebrew srtuff? Nov 08 22:54:51 stuff* Nov 08 23:06:48 xbonesx: full erase, then webOS Doctor Nov 08 23:07:50 your friend is kind of an idiot :x Nov 08 23:08:21 lol i know but now he wants a pre lol Nov 08 23:08:36 how old is the phone? Nov 08 23:08:57 hes still in 30 day trail Nov 08 23:09:01 if it's less than 30 days, just erase doctor and have him return it, most any carrier will let you break that Nov 08 23:09:09 then why is is trying to play it as screwed up Nov 08 23:11:23 is there anyway to tell from the webos browser that its using https? Nov 08 23:11:28 trying to guilt them into giving him a better phone Nov 08 23:11:37 another friend on mine did it Nov 08 23:12:03 man xbonesx, the retardation level is rising, I think it's going to break the scale pretty soon Nov 08 23:12:05 had a pixi bitched about it being sucky, got the pre without having to pay $50 and he got the activations taken off Nov 08 23:12:21 he's in the 30 day window, just return it and eat the 50$ and quit being an idiot Nov 08 23:12:55 ya i know, but hes trying to get the pre without paying the $50 cuz he has no money lol, i bought mine outright just to let you know, payed my dues Nov 08 23:14:09 if he can't find the 50$ to get the Pre, why is he on a plan that, at its cheapest, is 40$ a month ?_? Nov 08 23:19:17 good point, hes hoping on a job call hahaha, think he was going to return it if he didnt get a job anwyays Nov 08 23:19:22 anyways* Nov 08 23:20:19 i tend to have less intelligent friends, in a way it kinda raises my moral hahaha J/K but i do tend to have quite a few idiots for friends, guess its cuz they come to me for help and shit IDK Nov 08 23:21:15 i mean im not the smartest by any means but i know a little about a lot, sometimes i wish i knew a lot about a little but... Nov 08 23:21:39 well yeah, honestly if you can't put two and two together to go "maybe I should full erase and doctor to see if my problem disappears since I've been modifying the phone" then you deserve to have your phone not get fixed when you bring it in to a store to get it fixed :p Nov 08 23:30:55 ya this kid really hasnt done a lot of research, infact for all the help and shit ive done i should have been charging lol, but he really doesnt know anything except what ive told him, just got the phone maybe a week ago Nov 08 23:31:21 ive been in the scene since november of last year when i got my first pre Nov 08 23:31:45 xbonesx: how many pre's have you had? ;) Nov 08 23:32:58 lol three within the first month, lmao the first two got horrible oree effect, so i used the 30 day trail to my benefit but your only allowed to do that three times i guess, plus the third one i get was a little stronger built imo Nov 08 23:33:59 xbonesx: wow that's pretty bad. I'm one my 2nd Pre Plus (I got my first one in late March this year) Nov 08 23:34:25 * halfhalo still has a launch day pre in semi working order Nov 08 23:34:43 damn dude Nov 08 23:34:50 semi-working order... semi? Nov 08 23:35:07 ya i dont know maybe i wasnt being nice enough to my first two pres but this third despite the battery being almost non-existent, is in really good shape, even the oreo isnt that bad Nov 08 23:35:13 Hardware is fine, never got around to flashing it to vzw with the tokens from the pre plus Nov 08 23:35:41 halfhalo: you can do that? Nov 08 23:35:57 ya id love to do that, 16gb of storage and more ram would be nice Nov 08 23:36:12 yup Nov 08 23:36:13 xbonesx: when someone says that "the oreo isn't THAT bad" you know the hardware sucks Nov 08 23:36:49 halfhalo: umm... wouldn't that also require flashing the ESN (or MEID)? And getting the MSL? Nov 08 23:36:51 ya i must admit it could be better but atleast its not 90 degreeing on my lol Nov 08 23:37:10 I'm on my second Sprint Pre Plus... didn't like the keyboard on the first one. Nov 08 23:37:24 sprint pre plus? Nov 08 23:37:26 xbonesx: it's pretty sad that the hardware is THAT bad, and Palm still put it out Nov 08 23:37:32 modified one of course i assume Nov 08 23:37:35 yup Nov 08 23:37:40 i know right Nov 08 23:37:48 you bought it that way or did it yourself? Nov 08 23:37:52 did it myself Nov 08 23:37:55 nice Nov 08 23:37:56 same here Nov 08 23:38:00 later put a sprint keyboard on the first one and sold it Nov 08 23:38:04 any tuts you could offer for it? Nov 08 23:38:07 i've sold a few on craigslist and ebay Nov 08 23:38:15 nice Nov 08 23:38:28 well, i did make an ebay video for the hardware swap. Nov 08 23:38:39 link? Nov 08 23:38:44 getting it Nov 08 23:38:46 my Pixi has been awesome, aside from the keyboard backlight Nov 08 23:38:49 kool thanks Nov 08 23:39:03 Sine0t: lol the pixi is awesome bro Nov 08 23:39:05 I'd get a pixi if it wasn't for that damn screen Nov 08 23:39:08 WAY to small Nov 08 23:39:12 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Q4BcyBt9Yw Nov 08 23:39:16 * xbonesx agree Nov 08 23:39:22 the pre's screen is unbearable as is, can't imagine a pixi Nov 08 23:39:38 it's not really that bad Nov 08 23:39:47 I took a Pixi in a trip to a GSM country, liked the keyboard a lot, screen was okay. Nov 08 23:39:49 why couldn't palm make a 3.5" screen?! Paaaalllllllmmmmmm!!!! Nov 08 23:40:09 I've never used a pixi outside of a verizon store Nov 08 23:40:17 never seen anyone who owns one Nov 08 23:40:29 I saw one in a restaurant. Nov 08 23:40:46 I know two people with pre's but no pixi users Nov 08 23:41:04 SineOt: To each their own Nov 08 23:41:15 I overheard one of the noises on the phone and talked to the guy a bit. :) Nov 08 23:41:24 I've see more Pixi users than Pre users, oddly enough Nov 08 23:41:29 weird Nov 08 23:41:32 but cool Nov 08 23:41:41 seen one pre user, but like 3 or 4 Pixi users Nov 08 23:42:03 the pixi's hardware puts the pre to shame in terms of build quality and aesthetics Nov 08 23:42:26 of course, it doesn't take much to beat the pre in either of those areas, but still ;) Nov 08 23:44:07 how much does a pre plus go for on say ebay or somewhere else? Nov 08 23:44:48 Sprint Pre Plus, $100 to $150 or so Nov 08 23:44:54 anyone here know how to get a postinst script working? having trouble with an IPK I'm making. Nov 08 23:46:19 ashi_todd: un touched, i possibly could do that work myself to make it sprint Nov 08 23:47:39 xbonesx: I did the swap a few times before I made the video... it gets easy with practice. :) Though it would have been easier the first time if I'd seen a video. Nov 08 23:48:03 so, who wants to review my devday slides? Nov 08 23:48:12 sure Nov 08 23:48:20 I want to be surprised Nov 08 23:48:30 but I wouldn't mind a sneak peak ;) Nov 08 23:48:34 then i owe you much thanks if i decide to do this. so the only benefits is 512ram and 16gb storage right? Nov 08 23:48:38 I won't be there, so I'd be glad to, rwhitby Nov 08 23:48:42 ill check it out rwhitby Nov 08 23:48:44 xbonesx: right Nov 08 23:49:06 xbonesx: I recommend reading the whole thread too. Nov 08 23:49:19 rwhitby: I'll be there so I want to be surprised. If I wasn't going I would though. Nov 08 23:49:28 ashi_todd: thread? Nov 08 23:49:30 seb_or_sam: lots of postinst examples on git.webos-internals.org - look in the control subdir of each app source repo Nov 08 23:49:42 rwhitby: awesome. thanks! Nov 08 23:49:51 xbonesx: http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre-tips-information-resources/259077-pre-plus-sprint-step-step-conversion-guide.html Nov 08 23:50:22 at least the first several pages. :) Nov 08 23:51:21 xbonesx: and remember BATToRSP is 40 characters long. Nov 08 23:51:40 use the castle.xml generation support in our Show Properties app Nov 08 23:51:51 good idea Nov 08 23:51:52 * ashi_todd gets lost in the presentation Nov 08 23:52:05 ashi_todd: that bad hey? Nov 08 23:53:09 rwhitby: naw, just maximizing it so I can pay attention to it. Nov 08 23:53:10 looking forward to seeing your presentation at dev day rwhitby Nov 08 23:55:51 hi Nov 09 00:03:39 rwhitby: I liked it. Didn't see anything wrong. Easy to follow, proper Australian spelling. :) Nov 09 00:05:02 ashi_todd: I have to continue to teach the proper Queen's English to the subversives ;) Nov 09 00:06:09 I just barely noticed... my reading sources are varied and colourful. Nov 09 00:06:21 even proper Queen's English needs a good once over or two :p Nov 09 00:07:30 Worcester, night/knight... Nov 09 00:12:32 ashi_todd: so a pre plus with a bad esn will do fine for this operation? Nov 09 00:13:33 xbonesx: if it has a bad ESN it's, odds are it's a stolen phone, or the guy didn't pay his bills and/or voided the contract Nov 09 00:14:25 xbonesx: yes, as long as the donor Sprint phone has a good ESN, since that will be transferred over. Nov 09 00:14:28 right but thats of no concern to me when doing this correct? Nov 09 00:14:40 ya my phones fine a current bills on time Nov 09 00:14:50 xbonesx: also the Sprint phone can have a broken screen as long as it still turns on. Nov 09 00:15:11 even cheaper lol Nov 09 00:15:15 xbonesx: alright as long as you have no qualms about a phone that could be stolen... just saying. Nov 09 00:15:36 what difference could that make to me tho, not going to get me in trouble right? Nov 09 00:15:45 and you can set up the Sprint phone afterwards with the Verizon Plus's bad ESN. Nov 09 00:16:13 lol Nov 09 00:16:19 xbonesx: eh, I just realized I'm a bit of a hypocrite- I've almost bought a few bad ESN phones before. Yeah, noo ne will come to get you Nov 09 00:16:31 and you can always flash the ESN anyways... Nov 09 00:16:31 lol Nov 09 00:16:38 xbonesx: I've sold a few of those for around $25 on ebay if the screen is good, for dev use / parts. Nov 09 00:16:38 thanks for the help guys Nov 09 00:16:52 have another pre plus up for dibs? Nov 09 00:17:11 yeah, I've ponder a bad ESN pixi for the Wifi swap, but... I'd hate to buy a stolen phone Nov 09 00:17:21 but broken/for parts ones are rare Nov 09 00:17:23 yea no shit i need to get a plus to flash my esn Nov 09 00:17:42 SineOt: but it could just be someone who broke their contract. Nov 09 00:17:43 ashi_todd: any pluses lying around your will to sell? Nov 09 00:17:56 willing* Nov 09 00:18:02 xbonesx: I have a few, but they have matching Sprint phones already. :) Nov 09 00:18:10 shame Nov 09 00:18:18 * xbonesx moops for a min Nov 09 00:18:26 check ebay & craigslist. Nov 09 00:18:36 ya im on it now lol Nov 09 00:19:55 ashi_todd: you into xbox 360's? Nov 09 00:20:24 xbonesx: nope Nov 09 00:20:36 shame i modify and fix those Nov 09 00:20:41 ashi_todd will at&T pluse work? Nov 09 00:20:49 yes, but read the thread Nov 09 00:20:54 any plus from what i read Nov 09 00:20:55 the hw swap is a little more involved Nov 09 00:20:56 ok Nov 09 00:21:09 rwhitby commented in the thread about it. :) Nov 09 00:21:09 i know its the board Nov 09 00:21:28 the cables are a different length Nov 09 00:21:32 so swap more of the phone Nov 09 00:21:57 * ashi_todd catching a train home, bbl Nov 09 00:22:09 yeah, the first post in that thread should be updated to swap the antenna with the comms board Nov 09 00:23:35 we need a camara on the front of the pres :-( Nov 09 00:23:36 how much can be swapped? screen, etc...? Nov 09 00:30:36 How's the webos2.0 doctor hacking going? anyone have it working yet? Nov 09 02:40:19 Its weird running without a bouncer.... 0_o Nov 09 02:43:35 You're so... naked Nov 09 02:46:40 re: bad ESN phones, I don't see anything wrong with buying any hardware from anyone. It's a device someone else purchased, not stole. If someone bought a TV on credit, sold it to me, and then failed to pay off his credit card bill and declared bankruptcy or whatever, he'd be on the hook for it, not me. contracts are between the two parties making the contract. Nov 09 02:47:09 I think people meant more along the lines of uh, actually stealing the phones. Nov 09 02:47:20 As in taking it out of a backpack, purse, whatever. Nov 09 02:47:40 And then selling it on eBay. The ESN gets marked bad when the original owner reports it stolen to the carrier. Nov 09 02:48:16 SineOt: re: stolen phones, I suppose that happens but with high-rated repeat ebay sellers especially -- wouldn't that be really dumb and the cops be investigating things like that? Nov 09 02:48:32 I think far more often they're broken contracts Nov 09 02:49:02 Cops generally have far more interesting things to go after than stolen phones, sadly. Nov 09 02:49:51 or sometimes someone committed insurance fraud by saying they lost it, getting a replacement and selling the original. that's definitely more questionable Nov 09 02:49:53 unless its a prototype, then they want it for 'evidence' Nov 09 02:50:48 but still I don't think that just because a phone is blacklisted, knowing nothing else about it, it should be a reason never to buy it, especially for parts. Nov 09 02:50:50 halfhalo: a prototype that you bought for 10k off a guy who claims he found it even though the person that originally lost it reported it stolen? :3c Nov 09 02:51:13 we don't interrogate the sellers of other electronics on ebay about the device's past history Nov 09 02:51:54 yeah, but most everything else doesn't have a bad esn where you know that the carrier felt something was wrong enough to pull that out :p Nov 09 02:51:58 * halfhalo does. with a length of rubber hose and a sack o bricks Nov 09 02:54:04 frozen oranges :C Nov 09 02:54:21 SineOt: a friend bought a bad ESN device on ebay in the days right after the pre came out and it wasn't listed as bad ESN (and we didn't know to look out for it so much). sprint unblackisted it for him so I imagine it wasn't stolen, not sure what the history was there Nov 09 02:54:49 weird Nov 09 02:55:36 I hear beeping... wth irc Nov 09 02:55:50 Beep beep beep beep beep beep. Nov 09 02:56:09 ... Nov 09 02:56:24 I bet a lot of them are subsidy breaks though and I don't find any ethical issues with that (that's between carrier and buyer IMO) Nov 09 02:57:00 I also can't change channels because irssi is weird Nov 09 02:57:53 the whole phone subsidy game in the US is kind of weird Nov 09 02:58:17 bip Nov 09 02:58:42 your a bip **** ENDING LOGGING AT Tue Nov 09 02:59:57 2010
