**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Feb 26 02:59:59 2012 Feb 26 05:58:31 folks Feb 26 10:42:12 hi Feb 26 10:43:47 pong Feb 26 10:49:02 i've got a question that is too dumb to be ask. Feb 26 10:49:52 i've got a palm pre and i want to install preware stuff on it. but i don't have a credit card, so i have to do it via usb Feb 26 10:50:14 i have a dual boot system and found a step by step guide to do so on windows Feb 26 10:50:37 but i wanted to do the termanial stuff with linux Feb 26 10:50:54 so i restarted my pc in order to start linux but forgot to bookmark the page Feb 26 10:51:05 i can't find this now Feb 26 10:51:18 do you have an idea which website i mean? Feb 26 10:52:08 witwith a step by step guide to install the preware app via linux Feb 26 10:54:19 found it Feb 26 10:54:27 sry for bothering you Feb 26 20:55:43 how I can uses preaware on my HP touch pad Feb 26 22:26:42 rwhitby: so what is the point of ADD_EXTRA_CARRIERS in metadoctor? seems to add pmcarrierdb to OLDIPKGS list but I'm not quite clear on how that adds carriers, ie isn't that package already in the rootfs? Feb 26 22:26:51 rwhitby: I imagine I'm missing something Feb 26 22:29:21 rwhitby: ahh, I missed the second ifeq, makes more sense now :) Feb 26 23:28:41 Lumiere, get to work! Feb 26 23:29:13 wat? Feb 26 23:29:17 lulz Feb 26 23:29:27 * Lumiere stabs cryptk in the face Feb 27 01:01:27 working on a carrier file for Straight Talk, a lot of people have started using straight talk for iPhones since it's $45/month unlimited. I have ST working on my pre3 by manually setting APN etc, but if I can put it into a doctor, all the better. (plus I think I can get assisted GPS this way that wasn't working otherwise) Feb 27 01:02:04 see http://aaltonen.us/2012/02/07/howto-straight-talk-iphone/ -- they're doing direct sales of SIM cards now so you don't have to buy an e71 refurb phone and steal its SIM like I did Feb 27 01:02:31 destinal_: you mean GSM carriers in the US don't sell sim cards? Feb 27 01:03:31 rwhitby: sadly, a lot of the a la carte ones only sell their phones, people tend to buy the phone and remove the SIM if they want to do BYOD Feb 27 01:04:16 * rwhitby laments the bastardisation of the "Global System" aspect of US GSM implementation Feb 27 01:05:58 rwhitby: the pointless encryption of the dataconnection field is silly Feb 27 01:06:27 you can be sure it's a requirement by some carrier Feb 27 01:06:58 "thou shall not have our APN's in clear text" or something Feb 27 01:08:21 rwhitby: this is the first I was aware of SUPL. apparently ATT has some server I've never heard of as their default but tmobile and a lot of other phones use supl.google.com -- going to try that with my straighttalk pre3 and see if it works Feb 27 01:10:52 rwhitby: do you know if the JSON for carrier data is parsed only once on first initialization of a device or if it's done more frequently? Feb 27 01:11:07 no idea **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Feb 27 02:59:58 2012
