**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Apr 15 02:59:59 2012 Apr 15 05:30:13 only just now did i realise the pre3 had an external antenna connector Apr 15 06:41:00 hello anyone Apr 15 06:41:39 hello anyone Apr 15 07:47:49 hello all Apr 15 07:49:14 this morning my pre minus asked to install the 1.4.5 update. the device is an unlocked movistar phone. it was updated to 1.4.5 centuries ago. Apr 15 07:49:36 i recall this was caused by a misbehaving patch. Apr 15 07:49:53 but i can't seem to find where it was discussed. Apr 15 07:50:07 still i haven't installed new patches for months now. Apr 15 08:02:17 iDG, there is a 1.4.5.1 is that the update? Apr 15 08:02:37 no. Apr 15 08:03:02 the update is, according to the omadm logs, Palm webOS 1.4.5;222 Apr 15 08:03:10 which is exactly the one on the device. Apr 15 08:07:50 I've heard of such things that wind up updating small system packages Apr 15 08:08:39 the log seems to indicate that the update will affect maps Apr 15 08:09:00 (which, btw, does not really work on 1.4.5 -- on my device, atleast). Apr 15 08:09:05 for example... there was a little while that after installing a 2.x version of webos you'd get an update notification and afterwords voice dialing would work Apr 15 08:10:04 google maps hasn't worked for a while. you needed to somehow upgrade to the bing maps Apr 15 08:10:13 no. i mean the bing maps. Apr 15 08:11:57 my personal opinion is that bing maps needs LOTS of work (mostly on the server side) Apr 15 08:12:17 but that's entirely separate from you're update Apr 15 08:13:19 OK. backed up the complete flash and started the update. let's see what's happening. Apr 15 08:13:41 uh. done, already? Apr 15 08:13:53 that was very quick. Apr 15 08:14:52 my impression from updates like that is that they can be triggered by maybe even just one system package not being at the "right" version Apr 15 08:15:59 it's rebooting now. let's see what's happening. Apr 15 08:16:14 but it can't be that much. it took less than two seconds. Apr 15 08:18:17 that is weird. Apr 15 08:18:35 the update log mentioned something about maps. but it did not change anything. Apr 15 08:18:50 yet it did disable dropbear. Apr 15 08:18:54 it was mentioned too. Apr 15 08:19:40 yep. everything exactly like it was before. atleast from the look of it. Apr 15 08:19:46 now running a diff. Apr 15 08:20:13 version is still 1.4.5 build 222 Apr 15 08:21:04 it look like it actually wanted to replace the maps application with the bing maps. which i already updated before. Apr 15 08:21:16 i don't understand why it killed dropbear. Apr 15 08:23:26 i'm storing the log for the posterity. Apr 15 08:24:07 yep. removed dropbear. nothing else changeg. Apr 15 08:25:44 the maps application was indeed "updated". the dates on the file are changed. Apr 15 08:26:49 but the content of the files is identical. Apr 15 08:37:38 the end result is: dropbear completely eradicated. Apr 15 08:38:01 maps with access date updated to the time of the update (but no changes to the files). Apr 15 09:02:09 well. that's it. Apr 15 09:02:20 have a nice day everybody. Apr 15 10:00:12 neat -- this could end up being helpful Apr 15 10:00:13 http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=qualcomm_freedreno&num=1 Apr 15 10:00:21 An Open-Source Graphics Driver For Snapdragon Apr 15 20:54:33 morning Apr 15 20:56:53 morning Apr 15 20:59:19 new homebrew pivot patch has tweaks support Apr 15 21:02:54 good afternoon rwhitby Apr 15 21:02:58 g'day Apr 15 21:08:01 does the homebrew pivot patch change anything on the touchpad or it a phone-only thing? Apr 15 21:09:39 touchpad only Apr 15 21:11:23 well now now i look stupid... interestingly, i installed it and the first time i launched the app catalog it didn't have any effect Apr 15 21:12:15 correct. it has to download stuff first in the background. Apr 15 21:14:08 ah ok, thanks :) Apr 15 21:16:05 Hi. My palm pre died the other day, and my contacts aren't available on my new phone. Fortunately, I also own the HP Touchpad, and the contacts are still available albeit in the palm profile, not google as I need. I need to export the contacts from my touchpad to csv or vcf, or in some other way move these over to google. I read about com.abesapps.exportcontacts_1.0.0_all.ipk a patch that allows bulk exporting, but I can't f Apr 15 21:16:05 ind a mirror to download it from. Any tips? Apr 15 21:16:37 have you looked in Preware? Apr 15 21:16:58 yea, I searched preware for the patch, but it's not available in the normal feeds, as far as I can see Apr 15 21:17:17 dunno then. does it have a forum thread? Apr 15 21:18:24 It does, but it's 3 years old. The developer no longer supports it. I thought maybe someone would know of an alternative solution, and appreciate that I tried to help myself first. I'd love to download the patch but it doesn't seem to be available anymore. Apr 15 21:18:55 well, all versions of all patches that were ever in Preware are on github Apr 15 21:19:27 alternatively, http://www.webosnation.com/export-all-your-contacts Apr 15 21:19:40 I think I've been reading this article Apr 15 21:19:45 although that's phone only, so won't help you Apr 15 21:19:52 oh wait, no Apr 15 21:20:00 yea, phone only. dang Apr 15 21:20:34 Maybe I can sync to the emulator in the sdk? Apr 15 21:20:54 http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Patch_Contacts_Send_All_via_Email ? Apr 15 21:21:12 ahhh! this is it I think Apr 15 21:21:56 https://github.com/webos-internals/patches/blob/webos-2.1.0/contacts/contacts-send-all-contacts-via-email.patch Apr 15 21:22:58 looks like no-one ported it past 2.1.0 Apr 15 21:23:23 well that's a shame. I guess that explains why I didn't see it in preware Apr 15 21:23:39 yep Apr 15 21:24:37 man... I'm willing to buy something at this point, if anyone knows an app or anything. This is what I'll be researching now. **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Apr 16 02:59:58 2012
