Dec 31 00:22:34 At first I suspected that it was a dying radio. So I bought a refurb off of eBay, switched my IMEI to the refurb radio, activated the service with the refurb running 1.4.5, then meta-doctored it with a git clone from a few days ago. Dec 31 00:23:09 The FrankenPre2 exhibited the same problem, searching for signal and dropping 3G service. Dec 31 00:23:39 I put the comm board back in the refurb, meta-doctored to 1.4.5 and it was fine for most of a day. Dec 31 00:24:21 Then I meta-doctored the refurb (which is a Spring Pre- by the way) to 2.1.0 and that was fine for most of another day. Dec 31 00:25:11 Then I took the comm board out of the refurb Pre- and put it back in the FrankenPre2 without meta-doctoring. It is better than before but still drops 3G service once or twice an hour. Dec 31 00:25:47 Did I wind up with a bad radio from the eBay refurb, does my FrankenPre2 have a unshakable gremlin? Or what? Dec 31 00:28:33 Although the "bad radio from the refurb" theory doesn't hold up based on my experience with it running 1.4.5 and 2.10 for most of two days. Dec 31 00:28:51 Which leaves the "gremlin in the FrankenPre2" theory. Dec 31 00:29:32 Another theory is that there is a problem with Sprint's data service in my area. However, my wife's FrankenPre2, also on Sprint, is not having these problems, which discounts that theory. Dec 31 00:30:29 The only difference between her FrankenPre2 and my FrankenPre2 is that hers started out as GSM and mine started out as Verizon CDMA. Though both radios have been swapped out for Sprint CDMA at this point, so they should be equivalent from a hardware perspective. Dec 31 00:30:39 So I'm out of theories here... Dec 31 01:03:39 No takers on that one, eh? Dec 31 02:25:43 Man, this is a dead chat room. Dec 31 02:44:34 mornig Dec 31 02:44:37 morning Dec 31 02:50:07 lessee... Dec 31 02:51:18 ChairmanTubeAmp +1 to comment about dead room :P Dec 31 02:51:27 the holdiday season may not be helping any Dec 31 02:52:19 Yeah, people might be having actual fun with other people. Dec 31 02:52:21 * ka6sox-away is invisible I guess. Dec 31 02:52:38 Good morning ka6sox! Dec 31 02:52:55 Didn't mean to ignore you, I was AFK. Dec 31 02:53:26 Morning ka6sox-away Dec 31 02:53:34 Anyone mind if I repeat my question? Dec 31 02:53:46 morning...this seems like a network issue...not a phone issue Dec 31 02:53:47 Only if you don't mind me repeating mine from the other day Dec 31 02:53:51 move it somewhere else. Dec 31 02:54:31 This behavior exhibits itself in multiple neighborhoods in my city. Dec 31 02:54:40 hmmm.... Dec 31 02:54:51 And my wife's phone is physically proximate to my phone and doesn't exhibit these issues. Dec 31 02:55:24 So it would have to be a problem with my registration that only manifests itself on the FrankenPre2. Dec 31 02:55:40 the CDMA vs GSM is not an issue Dec 31 02:56:07 oh wait... Dec 31 02:56:16 you did transfer the antenna right? Dec 31 02:56:21 you have to use the sprint antenn, Dec 31 02:56:35 Yes, the whole comm assembly (the entire black plastic board) Dec 31 02:57:02 Also, it was working for over a year before this issue cropped up - no OS upgrades, hardware changes, etc. Dec 31 02:57:17 interesting... Dec 31 02:57:30 Which is why I thought that it was a dying amplifier. Dec 31 02:57:51 Or some component of the transceiver. Dec 31 02:57:52 did you make sure you got the GPS and RADIO antennas right? Dec 31 02:58:05 In what respect? Dec 31 02:58:42 I never messed with the antennas because I transferred the whole comm board assembly when I did the transplant. Dec 31 02:58:43 if you swap them it will act like this. Dec 31 02:58:54 the connectors Dec 31 02:59:24 there is a GPS connector and a Radio Connector **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Dec 31 02:59:59 2012
