**** BEGIN LOGGING AT Sun Sep 23 02:59:58 2012 Sep 23 22:19:45 Hi folks, I am following these instructions about webOS and PhoneGap. Actually I fail in the very beginning. I installed Java, webOS SDK and I downloaded PhoneGap. Emulator is up and running. Everything should be fine. I cannot run "make clear; make" command, as the terminal tells me that I must have misspelled "make". Using Win8. You guys got any ideas? Sep 23 22:19:52 https://developer.palm.com/content/resources/develop/cross_platform_development.html Sep 23 22:22:25 I am talking about "Setting Up PhoneGap" from the very beginning. Sep 23 22:24:27 you don't need java, well, i suppose in a way you do Sep 23 22:24:43 duebelmann: have you ever written JS before? Sep 23 22:25:01 no i haven't Sep 23 22:25:56 k, so you're brand new then.. you might want to join #enyojs too Sep 23 22:26:15 Alright, I will, thank you Sep 23 22:26:24 there's not a lot of ppl around at once, but you can get help here and there usually Sep 23 22:26:49 er, best thing i could say is to follow the enyo tutorial Sep 23 22:27:03 from the beginning, and get your first app running in chrome Sep 23 22:27:17 Does the enyo tutorial cover PhoneGap, too? Sep 23 22:28:05 idk where it's documented but chrome is the best for enyo dev, make a shortcut after install and in target box add the params at the end '--allow-file-access-from-files --enable-file-cookies --disable-web-security' Sep 23 22:28:47 you don't really need the emulator much, unless you are in the final stages for testing. enyo 2 works pretty much the same everywhere if you can tackle each platform's quirks Sep 23 22:29:42 i know there's some 'new' ppl in here that can help more than i can, i'm easily distracted Sep 23 22:29:52 Do you think this would be the right tutorial to start with? https://github.com/enyojs/enyo/wiki/Tutorial Sep 23 22:30:03 yep, perfect Sep 23 22:30:21 also i'd recommend going through the source at least once, and then afterwards looking at the samples Sep 23 22:30:39 the source of what? Sep 23 22:30:52 the enyo source Sep 23 22:31:51 like, the files themselves, specifically enyo/source/boot, dom, kernel, touch, UI.. and the onyx folder too. all in the source .zip Sep 23 22:32:17 there's a lot of samples there, you can take layouts / copy / cut paste code, probably mostly everything you need Sep 23 22:32:44 http://enyojs.com/sampler/ this is super fun, too Sep 23 22:33:04 * fxspec06 doesn't want to throw too much at once Sep 23 22:33:35 Okay. How much JavaScript should I know. I study computer science so I know how to program generally. I was hoping to learn JavaScript on-th-fly while developing for webOS. Is that realistic or should I hit some JS tutorial? Sep 23 22:33:59 oh yeah, you'll be good. no problemo Sep 23 22:36:04 Alright, then I'll be off reading. Thanks man! Sep 23 22:36:25 np! **** ENDING LOGGING AT Mon Sep 24 02:59:58 2012
